Thank you for going and visiting with Bill it made me feel good, I grew up in a body shop that my dad worked in and both my brothers worked there it truly was a family business a body man who had 50 years experience and a painter with 40 I knew there kids and they helped raise mine. It's businesses and folks like this that are the American dream

    My 1st pick-up was a 1978 Chevrolet K10, Fleetside, 8' bed.
Driving home from work in the summer of '80 past a Chevy dealership I spotted that truck. Pulled in to check it out. It was brown, with a Fisher 8' snow plow and a 3" lift already done. The best part was it only had 12,500 miles and looked like it never did much plowing.

I have an extreme soft spot and love for square body trucks. My first truck when I turned 14 was an 87 Silverado 1/2 ton long bed 4 wheel drive in the same copper and tan color combo as the short bed with no front clip. I daily drove that truck all through high school and recently it’s decided to quit running but here soon it’ll have a big block. My dad has a K30 Dually with a 454 and SM465, we rebuilt the motor in it a couple times when I younger. I’m exited to see where this one goes, it’ll give me some motivation to get mine back on the road soon. You don’t see many family owned/operated businesses still thriving nowadays so props to them for keeping it up! Good content fellas!

Get it done! You can do it man. I drove a 79 K10 in high school with a 350 & SM465. Been searching for years trying to find it & get it back.

That truck is as old as I am, an old neighbor of mine had a 1986 GMC K3500 non dually, with a 454, I love square body GM trucks (73-87).

First pickup was a 91' Ranger. Green single cab short bed with a 3.0 auto. Fun times and good memories in it while in highschool. Now I'm in the Navy with an 83' Ford Ranger 2.3L 4x4 that I've been slowly restoring since I been in.
If you guys do another squarebody, would love to see a 83-88' Ford Ranger. Not because I own one but I never see any big time content creators that involve restoring cars and trucks do these trucks. They're still dirt cheap as well.

Worth mentioning is those cabs come off easily and are much easier to work on off the frame. (Diablo Auto Dismantling recip saw blades are gold!) That also lets you do cool stuff if you actually use the truck to do truck things, for example plopping a C-10 cab on a C-30 or 20 eight lug rolling chassis. C-20s are easy to turn into C-30 equivalents and unlike compete trucks bare frames with trashed cabs remain affordable. Noobs should note the big inline sixes make gobs of torque and easily outlive small block V8s. Six-banger trucks (three on the tree preferred to lower the price) sell for less but can do serious work. My bro towed a 40-pax International 1600 bus with his C-30 wrecker from Fayetteville NC to Sumter SC with his 292 six! Trucks can do much more than just crawl the malls while looking good.

Those square body Chevy & GMC models were produced from 1973 - 1991 except the half ton & three quarter ton regular cab pickups were finished in 1987 & the one ton regular cab pickups & regular cab medium dutys were finished in 1989.

I bought my Uncle's '87 R10 Scottsdale Longbed Squarebody. It used to be owned by an alcoholic Indian and he was a shit rigging MFer. My Uncle swapped the motor, but it didn't last long. The 7R400 wasn't doing well either. I was looking forward to doing an engine and transmission swap, until we had a major ice storm in 2020. The roof took the full force of a massive branch of the giant pecan tree. That roof is stout, even though the center sits about eight inches lower. Pulled to top edge of the rear window frame forward and the upper edges of both door frames are pulled in slightly. If the truck hadn't been sitting in that spot, that branch would've demolished the car port that housed my Uncle's '89 Pontiac 6000. That car would've been pancaked. So, now I'm looking at possibly doing a roof replacement because I don't really want to do a full cap swap. It all depends on which way will be cheaper. The only thing that's not original on the truck is the engine and transmission. I can get all the pieces to replace the entire upper section of the roof. You can get every body panel for the truck through aftermarket companies. Literally can build your own truck with aftermarket parts. I just need to do a cost analysis and see if I can find a really good cab to see which one will be cheaper.

    Hint: Period correct.
If I had to guess, this truck will have a 6 inch suspension lift and 35-inch off-road tires, a chrome light bar in the bed, and a grille guard with Warn winch.

Well it pays to be picky in this case. The first one you turned down because it had so much rust. That's nothing especially for square body. The early square bodies rusted well seems like as they went down the assembly line. But towards the end they must have done something to them cuz they weren't near as bad. Ben cab of a short bed, I've got two wheel drive short red frame for it. Use it to Dolly around my 70 Chevy body while the frame is getting coated and built. Friend of mine has like a 85 maybe 87 c20 two-wheel drive long bed fantastic body. It's complete two wheel drive truck. Well his widow is selling it for less than $3,000. Runs and drives. My 73 square body which has been stored in the family since 1984, as a factory bucket and console. It also had patch panels in it back then and was repainted. They call her California edition. Rather that's really true or not who knows. Besides the folks out there in California when they saw my plates ask me why I drove all the way out there to pick up a car. They went on and tell me I said several others they come out my way and that's where they buy their vehicles. Went on and tell me while they rest in California too. Don't forget your KC lights for period correct. I've hung on a set for 20 years. You can still find them out there. Are you going to build a TV series Fall Guy cloned / tribute truck? You did find a nice truck as far as body condition. Congrats and thank you for taking the time to make the episode / series on this truck.
