I've never been that familiar with Christian rock, but I knew the title of this song straight away, and knew it had to be the same song I was thinking of when Jared sang it. I grew up with Audio Adrenaline and I have a soft spot for them. I'd definitely suggest giving Chevette a listen. The lyrics aren't necessarily about faith, but more about cruising through life in a cheap car. To me anyways. I listened to it lots in the back of my dad's car on road trips as a kid. I used to love Breakfast by Newsboys as well lol As much shade as Christian rock gets, it really wasn't too bad in the early 2000s.
I actually saw Audio Adrenaline at a free show at a local mega church probably 20 years ago. I never really got into much christian rock other than Skillet, Kutless, and Pillar. There are some decent Christian metal bands out there. Demon Hunter, Oh Sleeper, August Burns Red to name a few.

If you want a really interesting listen, there was a Christian goregrind band back in the early 2000s called Vomitorial Corpulence. I haven't heard about them in forever so I assume they split up but I'm actually not certain. They had song titles like Hammering Satan's Head and Christ Is The Demon Crusher. My personal favorite song from them is Festering Insalubrious Bowel Hemorrhaging Of Cancerous Pustulosus And Abdominal Abscess Discharge Of The Intestinal Tract. What an odd dichotomy of subject matter that is.

I used to listen to both Audio Adrenaline, Third Day, DC Talk, Stryper, all of em including Newsboys. All of their music got me into the next stage of harder music, hardcore and punk, then to metal. If it wasn’t for listening to them all under the age of 12, I don’t know if I would have had the want to dive deeper and deeper. From the early bands I got into ZAO, Living Sacrifice, Embodyment, Spoken, etc, and all of those bands are still awesome from time to time 🤘🏼

On the bright side, there’s a large void to be filled in that genre, which means opportunities for creative musicians with a passion and a purpose.

Third Day actually had a couple of decent southern rock hits. You could probably do this entire video on just David crowder band song titles, not his solo stuff cause that's boring and unimaginative stuff, but things like "Birmingham" or "Dance Music" are such odd titles for Christian music.
Ok as an unironic fan of a lot of Christian music , I gotta step in. You guys are right, Christian music has loads of cringe, largely because Christians want to be distinct from the non-Christians, leading to some pretty narrow subject matter. Sometimes a band comes along and is like “we can be a Christian band and not sing about Jesus all the time” but it’s sadly not often enough. Sometimes the Christian scene puts out a good band (I’d say newsboys was pretty good until 2008-ish), but given how much smaller the Christian music scene is from the wider music scene, there’s more cringe and uncreating stuff to sift through before you find the real gems. Stryper is top tier Christian music though, like they could easily outdo any classic 80s glam metal band, then and now. They have developed into more of a Judas Priest kinda sound, nothing crazy or mind blowing, but good head-banging classic traditional heavy metal stuff. Even if you don’t like the lyrics or religious leanings of Christian bands, keep an open mind and give ‘em a listen, sometimes a good song or band pops up. Also encouraging the actually good Christian artists will likely ensure that more actually good Christian music is made so it’s not just a cringe fest.
As an ex-evangelical who could ONLY listen to Christian music for way too many years, this video brings me immense joy watching Dickey just laugh and laugh over how ridiculous it can be. You kinda forget how absurd it used to be when you've been out of it for awhile!
