  • I put the different ages together to show the different reactions of the ages to this particular song. Of course his performance is flawless, but I wanted to see if the girls could understand WHAT the meaning behind the song was, and where that would take them. I had to blur out the video towards the end, but the girls reactions are priceless.

The songwriter, Earl Brown, spent hours talking to Elvis on how he felt about the state of the world. Then he wrote this song for him, summing up what Elvis had said. Steve Binder, the show producer, tells the story in a video. This is one of the greatest performances ever captured on film.

The great takeaways from this video for me:
    1. 44 years after his death, Elvis' music still surely can appeal to each new generation.
    2. The kids are beautiful, insightful human beings :)
Thankyou, thankyouverymuch much for doing this ! :D

Awesome reaction, ladies. This song was not originally planed. The powers that be wanted a Christmas song at the end, but with the assassinations of RFK and Martin Luther King Jr., Elvis thought it appropriate and lobbied to get it in. It was a rough time in history and it is heart lifting to see some good come from it. Thanks again for the reaction, ladies. Well done. Cheers!

"If I Can Dream" was written by Walter Earl Brown and notable for its direct quotations of Martin Luther King Jr.'s 1963 "I Have a Dream" speech. It was recorded by Presley in June 1968, just two months after King's assassination. The recording was first released to the public as the finale of Presley's '68 Comeback Special. Brown was asked to write a song to replace "I'll Be Home for Christmas" as the grand finale on NBC's "Elvis", from June 20-23, 1968 (now also known as ‘68 Comeback Special). Knowing about Presley’s fondness for Martin Luther King Jr., and about his devastation related to his then-recent assassination, he wrote "If I Can Dream" with Presley in mind. After Presley heard the demo, he proclaimed "I'm never going to sing another song I don't believe in. I'm never going to make another movie I don't believe in." And he, in his nine years remaining, kept his promise.

Young ladies and Mom, thank you all. It was wonderful that the context of when certain things happen was brought up. Many just take those things for granted. Yes, race relations are not what they should be, though much better now than when I was your age. Many today do not even know what it took to get us this far, or those that paved the way. Since you are in a music/theater class research Sammy Davis Jr. In my mind the best all around entertainer ever. He started like when he was 2-3 if mem serves.
I do not blame the human race, only certain individuals like the mouth pieces and most politicians. Remember, one is not born a raciest - it's a learned behavior and Elvis was trying to change that through his music and behavior. It would be good to see your reaction to In the Ghetto; if you three had not yet done so.
    Live long and prosper.
BTW if you do a reaction of Sammy, make it Mr. Bojangles - one of his live performances.

Hi mom again, you are doing a great job, was really impressed with the girls this time because they saw the message of the song, which you requested they pay attention to. But more important is they noted the effort and emotion that he put into this song, and that is important not only in this song but how he puts feeling into all of his songs. I don't know if you noticed at the end when he said thank you and goodnight he was out of breath, he was exhausted he sang his heart didn't have any more to give left it all on the stage. Please thank the girls for their reaction and for them to keep up the good work

Vietnam war happening.. He performed the song on 1968 television special. He never sang this song again. He put his heart and soul into that song. You should listen to. In. The. You ladies are great. Someone is doing right by you. There is so much history behind this song. Done just 2 months after MLK was killed and a few days after RFK. Song written in less than an hour. Never sang in concert before a live audience. Only a studio audience for his TV special. This one performance was done in front of only the production crew who all were totally spent after is was finished. There is so much more to this man. Keep on truckin’ ladies love watching you. (Don’t know your names, but the young lady on the right, I bet you would go to the dentist regularly and happily if Elvis was your Dentist). 😀😀😀😀😀
