Last night I watched the audition concert from Hawaii 1070 where he was doing a charity concert for Cancer he didnt have a specific amont to charge the audience for the rehearsal concter ,only asked people to give what they could,by the end of the show Elvis told the audience that the goal of his concert was 25 thousand that night of just the rehearsal they received 75 thousand, even before the real concert, when he did the real concert he bought his own ticket for 1000 dollars, This is just a fraction of his generosity, you never see this in famous singers nowadays ,thats for sure,Godbless Elvis❤👑👑👑👑👑❤
This was filmed in June 1968 for the Come Back Special. It was right after MLK was killed and while they were rehearsing the show, Robert Kennedy was killed. It was written while they were rehearsing for the show.
Elvis. The only artist to be inducted into the Hall of Fames for Rock N Roll, Country and Gospel. He always gave 110% of himself and never just “phoned it in”. A very humble man who didn’t care for being called the “King”.
Hi my friend. You forgot the rhythm and blue and rockabilly Hall of Fame. Actually there’s a whole list of others that doesn’t include music that he has been inducted him. Interesting Huh?😊
Elvis sang this song on a tv special in 1968. It was written especially for him for this special. Elvis was upset about the assassinations of MLK and RFK earlier in 68. The producers and his handlers did not want him to sing this, but Elvis felt strongly about the subject matter.
The producers did want him to sing it, in fact, they called in a writer to do so. It was Parker, his manager, that didn’t want him to sing it. There’s a documentary on Paramount+ called Reinventing Elvis on this special.
I remember watching this on television as a child. We watched as a family, a hour show. This was the final song of the program. It was epic. This brought back so many memories of my parents and what he brought to them as a performer , I cried longing for that time. Thanks for the bringing that memory to the for front. Loved it.
Elvis was the most photographed person in the world when they had cameras. Elvis truly the King of Rock, which is shown by a number of his outstanding achievements. It is estimated that Elvis has sold more than 1 billion record units worldwide, more than anyone in the record industry’s history. In America alone, Elvis has more than 140 different albums that have been certified gold, platinum, or multi-platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). Elvis has also had 149 songs to appear on the Billboard’s Hot 100 Pop Chart in America. Of these, 114 were in the top forty, 40 were in the top ten, and 18 were number one. Internationally, Elvis is no less famous. This is quite a feat considering that he never recorded his songs in other languages and, except for five shows in Canada, he did not perform in concert outside the United States. Despite all of this, Elvis is known worldwide.
Hello, I am 77 years old and Elvis fan for ever, what i would like to say is, How it warm my hearth to see some of the young Generation discovering Elvis and now you know why we are Elvis fan for ever, I do no want to compare Elvis to anyone, lot of Great signers out there who have perhaps the same fans base with the same passion for their idols that we have for Elvis, Again I really really enjoy and bring me to tears to see you discovering Elvis,, Elvis favorite Music is Gosple Music, the one who did all nigh Jamming with Elvis will tell you that it will always end up in Gospel Music, Thank you
This song was written after the assination of MLK JR and BOBBY KENNEDY. which was in 1968. He sang it at the end of his 68 comeback special at Christmas time against his manager Colonel Parkers wishes.
I am positive that I've seen this performance well over a hundred times, and it never fails to give me goosebumps and I just sink into it every time. And as a musician and a singer as well, I can tell you that it is so difficult to express that much real emotion while you are singing because once you cross a certain line with your emotion, it literally makes it difficult physically to sing. Think about when you get emotional and it suddenly feels like there is a big lump in your throat and your sinuses and your eyes start tearing up. So it is a perfect marriage of great songwriting and fantastic arrangement and just an astonishing emotional performance.
Elvis is one of the best singers that has ever lived. He was also a fabulous entertainer. There is a reason he is called "The King". He had a great voice & could sing anything whether it was ballads, gospel or rock. This song "If I Can Dream" was a tribute to Martin Luther King after his assassination.
Than you. Oh yeah I've connected, watched this many times, I have the DVD too. Prescious concert. Dear dear song thx for your great kind reactions. In Tupelo Mississippi when he was growing up he went to a gospel black and white church. He loved all people. I miss him so much. God Bless you from Texas . Honor and Respect to our King 👑🌹🎶🎵
An album was made of the 68 Special. Written specifically for Elvis as the final song for the special. Elvis was distraught at the assassinations of MLK and RFK and the producers wanted a song that would reflect Elvis’s feelings. And they sure did it! The song is iconic. Elvis sang this beautiful song with soul and passion.
They will never be a kind and loving Man like Elivs the king even today when i here thim sing i fee he is still with us Singwith the Angles with ur loves ones from clare Ireland ❤❤❤🙏🙏🙏🙏
The album was from Elvis' 68 special. It wasn't known as his "comeback special" for sometime after the fact. The special initial was to be a Christmas Special and was aired in early December, 1968. The special was rehearsed and taped in May and June of 1968 with recording wrapping up June 27th, 1968.
Just finished watching your reaction to if I can dream if you can try to watch how great thou Art Grand Rapids 1977 that is the last live. Filmed concert of Elvis he would be dead two months later the reason I’m asking you to react to it was because I remember that day some 5060 years ago seeing him do that on my TV set and has a very young teenager. It move me like I had seen before. It was like Elvis‘s voice touched me with the hand of God. Little did I know I would lose my hero two months after the viewing of the TV special. I was so blessed to have seen them in concert, and I’ve loved him all of my life, the definition of a hero is a person who changes your life for the better, or change the lives of those for the better well, he certainly changed my life he was One of life‘s greatest blessings. Thank you for sharing Elvis, and for appreciating his genius, his humanity, his kindness, and his gracious loving heart God bless you young man.
He had this written for him. He was on a movie set when he learned of Martin Luther King Jr's assassination. He was devastated. Then two months later Senator Robert Kennedy was also slain. They were two of the greatest allies in the Civil Rights Movement. This aired in December of 1968. It is said that after this performance he quickly exited the stage and went and sobbed in his dressing room. He only performed it live one other time I believe.
That's the best reaction I've seen. There are many great singers but I can't think of one person who has a voice and presence as he does. He's called the King & will remain the King.
To clear it up: The album is indeed a live album called Elvis but the real Elvis fans know it by its full name: Elvis the NBC special, or 68 come back special album, and if you would have scrolled, further down you would come across it 😊
Your reaction was beautiful. Words cannot do justice for that incredible, incendiary performance by arguably the single most important performer of all time.
I know you're younger than me.. I was 1 yr old when this came out.. Obviously didn't know what was going on in this country... USA.. but when Elvis died .. I was 10.. and this was my favorite song.. I didn't realize why till I was about 15...and truly knew the meaning of the song. I think I just knew somehow that this song was special... and it is to this day.. 2023..
I cannot stop listening to this song. I was a young person when this special was televised, but I never heard this song. It makes me angry that it was not broadcast everywhere. Amazing performance.
Elvis did a 45 not wearing the White suit but when Martin Luther King Jr was killed in Memphis then Bobby Kennedy in June 1968 it was just too much he wanted to do the TV SPECIAL with Ann Margaret to honor them, the Beatles were very popular in 1968 and people were saying Elvis was a has been, I never ever did. he wanted to cry out to the world that powerful message and he surely did, I graduated from High School that heartbreaking year, it weighed very heavy on our hearts and souls. That song told of the pain, very well
Saw this the first time it aired on national TV, the 68 comeback special was a big deal back then and it revived Elvis' career big time after so many formula movies the colonel forced him into. Elvis was happiest on stage and loved his fans, the famous well known video of him doing suspicious minds in his hotel casino show when he goes out into the audience and kisses like 30 women kinda shows it. Elvis was once quoted as saying after being warned the girls would tear the shirt off his back "if they want the shirt off my back let them have it, theyre the ones that put it there"
SalvoG, again your reaction (emotions) were evident on your face. You were taking in the words, processing the emotions and watching the most wonderful man deliver a heartfelt song from HIS heart. Elvis was truly troubled by all the unrest in 1968. MLK was killed in his hometown not far from Graceland in April and during the filming of this TV special, RFK was killed in June 1968. This song was his way of expressing his sorrow during those troubling times. I REALLY hope you continue to research Elvis, he truly is an American treasure!
Please OH PLEASE react to ‘If I can Dream - Celine Dion and (hologram) Elvis’ singing together! Celine suffers from what is known as ‘Stiff person syndrome’(autoimmune neurological disorder) which is incurable. So two music moguls in one, singing a POWERFUL message is amazing on its own.
This is one of the greatest live performances ever !! EVER !! Love your reaction ! It’s nice to see young people realizing why till this day he is and always will be the king !! I was 12 years old wen my sister Lorraine took me to see Elvis live in 1974 ! 5 rows from the stage ! Something I will never forget ! Also the first two seen a woman topples ! They were throwing their clothes on the stage ! My sister tried to cover my eyes but I wasn’t letting that happen ! 😂😂😂
You have to understand the times, the Civil Rights movement was going on, America lost two great men (King and Kennedy)who had dreams of America with everyone coming together and being peaceful with equal rights. It was a very emotional time and Elvis felt it too. His feelings always showed in his delivery.
Elvis soul , spirit and voice touching magically through the screen. I am not sure if he knew how big is the impact he has on millions of people through many generations. G.O.A.T..
This song could probably solve a lot of the worlds problems if all countries played this on loop until we all just chill the hell out until we all just get along.
Elvis had such a caring and loving heart.. leaves you speachless
This song and maybe, more importantly, the night on which He sang it was so significant to the American civil rights movement, MLK having been assassinated earlier that year and troubles still prevalent in the streets the producers of the show told Him NOT to sing this song but He did it anyway!
This song should be the national anthem of every single country in the world ❤
👍👑
Elvis kicks butt in Every song he sings , & No ONE can beat the whole ENTERTAINMENT factor . I'V seen him in concert several times . There will NEVER be another ELVIS PRESLEY
That performance, to me, is unparalleled. Elvis literally sings his soul out, pleading for racial equality. So beautiful and so powerful!

As of this year Dolly is in all three of those as well.
He is also in the Pop Hall of Fame total 6.
ELVIS was inducted into 5 MUSIC HALL OF FAMES!
Elvis was also inducted into the Rhythm and Blues Hall of Fame.
The album he released after the 1968 Comeback Special was titled Elvis From Memphis and it's a LEGENDARY album
Beautiful! Passion! Good always overpowers evil!

Bring all the expectations…
You can hear his Gospel and Blues influences so clearly.

Elvis was a very sensitive man and took everything to heart. ELVIS is coming back thru his songs to bring us all together.
Someone said everybody was crying at end of this song! SO MUCH EMOTION! ANOTHER REASON HE IS THE KING OF ROCK! RIP ELVIS ❤❤❤
This song still brings tears. I love it.
This and In the Ghetto change the minds of people who think Elvis was just a Las Vegas lounge entertainer!
💙😇ELVIS😇💙
Another reactor said “when I hear Elvis, everyone else just goes down a little.”

Very well phrased and said.
brings me to tears everytime i hear this song

He had a great voice & could sing anything whether it was ballads, gospel or rock. This song "If I Can Dream" was a tribute to Martin Luther King after his assassination.
He also arranged his own stuff and was incredibly talented at it, and I don't think that gets mentioned enough.
This voice is not normal. Best ever. Thank God for ELVIS 🙏👑👑
I’m crying like a baby now, that’s how emotional this song is and how great of a singer and a person Elvis Presley was.

Another one of my absolute favorites is Bridge over Troubled Waters, I can watch his do that one a millon times!❤❤❤❤
The song was Elvis's tribute to MLK. It was released in 1968.
GOOSEBUMPS!!!

This song, written more than 50 years ago is even more relevant today. Elvis was & still is the King.
The passion in his voice was amazing
And that my friend is why Elvis is THE KING!
Spectacular!!!!
Elvis's greatest performance.Which means the greatest performance by anyone ever in the history of music 👑

This has to be one of the best if not the best performance ever captured on film.

That is a very powerful meaningful inspirational song one of his best songs.
He made sure there was no audience. He wanted it pure and no screaming girls
Just wanted it pure

3:25 GLAD-iss, like the female name Gladys, which was his mother's name.
Yeah.... Elvis definitely gave a lot

Thankyou for not constantly pausing it breaking up the moment. I hate when people do that 😭 lol
They didn't want him to do this song.
I'm glad he did.
It was written especially for the comeback special in 1968.
Loving Arms -- it is awesome!
Thank you. Good night.

This song could probably solve a lot of the worlds problems if all countries played this on loop until we all just chill the hell out until we all just get along.
