But Elvis did this song and locked himself in his room for days . He was devastated about both men cause both men wanted equality for everyone .. Elvis didn’t understand why other people were against equality.. Elvis grew up poor and partly in Memphis .. he knew how it was and wanted to change things as well w his music

    His greatest performance hands down! The message back then is as relevant today, if not more than ever. He supported Dr. King and his dream of a better world. He had a copy of MLK's March For Freedom album which is in his personal record collection at Graceland.

      again Mike Mikesell! how did he support The Late great M.L.K.?

      did he ever use his microphone to speak of racial in equality?

    • @mikem957
      @mikem957 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@bwana-ma-coo-bah425How did he support? Elvis believed actions were louder than words unlike most attention seeking celebrities. Politicians only act like they care to gain support come election time. People who actually care about something do more than just speak about it or protest. Elvis wanted to march with both James Brown and Janis Joplin, but Parker wouldn't let him. He made him start filming Viva Las Vegas instead. But Elvis helped to fund the Civil Rights movement during the 60s and 70s by donating money to the cause. One of the groups he funded and supported was MLK's Southern Christian Leadership Conference. He even received a civil rights honorary award for his contributions to the cause in Atlanta in 1973 (I believe) by the NAACP. There's pics of him holding the award and it's on display at Graceland. Stop trying to discredit Elvis. We already know you dislike the guy. There's a Facebook group called Black Lives Mattered To Elvis that reveals everything he did for people of color and his personal relationships with them.

      if Elvis believed actions were louder than words as you say. Where can I see any where where he spoke about racial equality? Did I ask you about politicians?
      Wasn't Elvis a friend of Nixon's now that you mention it? So by Elvis obeying the colonel and not going to any march proves my point that Elvis was indeed a puppet. Told when to stand when to sit what to eat what to sing and when to shit. Thanks for confirming that for me. So he donated money to the cause. So he was a check book warrior. You do know that the colonel stopped those donations, don't you? And in a lots of cases the colonel even went and asked for the checks to be returned. Now that information was given to me by one of your fellow Elvis fans. Was that person lying to me? Listen here, pay very close attention. I will write it slowly so it doesn't get lost in translation. Show me anywhere in my comments where I have hated or shown any dislike for Elvis. I will offer you the same opportunity as I have countless others. Have a shot at the title. Be the first cover yourself in glory if you can. But just like the other Elvis fans you will not accept the challenge. BECAUSE THERE IS NONE!!!!
      But give it a shot, if you have the guts!

    He deliberately staged it with just himself, in the suit and tie. No audience or band. He wanted to be as respectful as possible to the song and subject matter. Thank You both for this beautiful reaction.
    I`ve been an Elvis fan for decades and I`m always so glad when non-Elvis fans take the time and are open enough to appreciate even just a tiny little bit of his genius.
    In my opinion, Elvis had many fabulous performances, non-Elvis fans just don`t know enough of his work.
    But I must admit that the story behind this song really shows who Elvis really was. How he cried when Dr. King was assassinated and how deeply he felt the need to express his pain.
    He was special in so many ways that one single song just can`t say much about him and can`t do him justice.
    To truly understand why he still lives in the hearts of so many and why he earned the title "King", one has to go down the rabbit hole and it`s very understandable that many people just don`t have the time and energy to go there.
    I wish everybody A Happy New Year 2022.
    Don`t let anybody and/or anything frighten or discourage you and/or take away your dreams, no matter what!!
    Friendly greetings from Slovenia :)

    I love you young ppl listening to the oldies. Elvis was a true integrationist--grew up in mixed neighborhood, stories of him swimming and playing with the kids in the neighborhood, not knowing they were all poor because they had fun and apples to snack on. In HS he shopped for his clothes where the black community shopped because of the stylish look ( I think the white kids teased him for it) and singing in the choir of a black church after white services were over. Yes, this WAS his best performance and most meaningful. I think I've seen every Elvis special made at least once, so I ain't talking out my axx. Peace and love.
