  • Today I'm going to be making YOMOGI MOCHI.
YOMOGI(よもぎ・蓬) is Japanese mugwort leaves with a unique, strong earthy flavor that we enjoy around this season. You can find YOMOGI In the mountains or riverbank, even around my house like this alongside the road.
I don't pick the leaves because the dogs might do their business while taking a walk. lol.
As you already know, Japanese people enjoy the seasonal ingredients, this is the flavor of May.
    6 YOMOGI MOCHI
    5g dried Yomogi
    70g mochiko
    30g rice flour
    10g sugar
    70〜90g water
    6 ×25g Red bean paste

I dreamt that someone was going to make this for me even though I never seen or tried it before.
Feels like I gotta learn now. Lol

What a beautiful way to honor this seasonal tonic medicine, you can tell Japan hails from a long tradition of herbalists & mountain goers intimate with nature
Do you throw away the green water because it's too strong of a flavor? Looks like it would give such a pretty color to the mochi

Those look like perfect stones for skipping on a lake!
I want to try them - I will need to see if I can find mugwort around here. I have heard of it, but thought it was used in herbal medicine, not cooking.

We say "Good medicine tastes bitter." But this is a comforting bitterness. Thanks for watching!

Where are you living? We have mugwort here in the U.S. it looks a little different. Never heard of any recipes with it, but I never looked. Most people I know throw away what she used and use what she threw away! Lol so different but I love it. I don't like waste so now I don't have to waste I can use the water she threw away as my tea (like I normally do) and make these as lil "tea" cakes! It has me wondering what other herbs out there can be used in this recipe in mugworts spot? As long as the herb is edible which if your making tea with it, it obviously is; I don't see why not? Only one way to find out!

Are there other herbs you can use in place of mugwort? Sorry I know nothing about mochi but am eager to learn! Great video and thank you.

I don't think there is another option, but you can make it without it! Thanks for watching!

ps the green water can't be flavored with honey and made into tea?

I don't think so. It might contain dust.

In the U.S. we throw away the part she used and drink the part she threw away 🤷🏼‍♀️ (with honey of course)
