  • The City of San Antonio is planning to demolish its oldest and largest public housing project, the Alazan-Apache Courts, threatening the future of a historic neighborhood which anchors the city’s identity as the nation’s Mexican American capital. But their plans have been delayed for the time being after residents voiced their concerns.

I lived on Vera Cruz with my Grandma in the 80's & 90's. They demolished our side of the street (💔), but we could see The Alazan Courts Main Building from our place. The memories of growing up there with my family are with me in my heart everyday ❤ Nothing but PRIDE! ❤💪 Always.

Oh great. I'm glad to hear that. Us as well. We grew up in the Victoria Courts. I wish they would not have taken those down. We have moved on but we never forget where we came from. Those are our roots. They are the reason for who we are today. I am very proud to let folks know where I am from and all about our roots. God Bless you.

I remembered this. Long ago, it was a mess until the property got renovated and painted and added new features. It looks so neat and what gives to tear it down? Gangs issues? Or planning to built new government housing?

SAHA owns the lot and wants to build big "mixed income" high rises that can turn a profit, even if they have to kick out the families that live there

My family lived there from the 70s to late 90s , at 0:25 we lived in the 2nd building, and when you cross the street to the left ..all those new houses were a section on the courts they demolished and build the newer ones next to the main building

I used to live there in the 70s before they were remodeled and went to JT Brackenridge before it was remodeled .. Our block was from Brazos to Zarsamora on Guadalupe st ..witnessed alot of murders during that time , extorted bar customers for protection of their cars and did a little bit of shining shoes to survive and i was only 10 .. That's how it goes when you don't have parents at home to take care of you and feed you and you're just stuck fending for yourself ! No wonder why i couldn't shed a tear when my parents passed away ! Im almost 60 and 3thousand miles away and i still have nightmares of that horrible place !

Wow, I grew up in that same barrio n I used to show shined in the 70s, from Zarzamora to brazos. I was a Tiny Loco back then. U might remember them. We used to fight all kinds of gangs in all that area , we were nothing bt cholos. I'm fixing to b 61 soon. It was a dangerous place back then. I, too, saw a lot of killings in the barrio. I got shot n stabbed growing up there.
