Great review Paul. Too bad it wasn’t your cup of tea. I’m just a 65yr old washed up musician that never listens to EDM or anything remotely related to these kind of genres. For some weird reason I can’t explain I can still hear up to 14k. This set works quite well for what I dig listening to, like acoustic world music, R&B, Blues Fusion (Larry Carlton, Robben Ford, Steve Lukather, Jeff Beck etc). I know I have weird tastes in music. I guess it takes a weird set like the Dynaquattro to make my ears happy. I always enjoy hearing differences of opinions. I can certainly recognize the flaws you mentioned, but at the end of the day it’s what makes our ears happy. Micheal Bruce’s iems that I have all trump any production sets that I have heard coming from Chifi. Keep the great reviews coming. I learn something new with each video you publish. So far for the best balanced “bass head” set that I have is Raptor Toes. The 13mm single DD in that set is an absolute beast after Micheal does his magic to it. To be totally honest, I’ve forgotten the name of the original set. It truly is god tier once Micheal does his thing to this set. Kudos 🎻🎸✌️. One thing you didn’t mention the Dynaquattro is a pig for power…!!
That is a common thing and hard for me to figure out. I think Jay's Estrella is like that. For some genres that don't hammer the bass or treble, it is a different set. If you are a reviewer and those genres are your favorites, you end up with a different impression.
Good to hear a musicians take on an iem...I wish I could meet a musician and discuss more I am very new to this and I have recently got delci which I loved I will upgrade next year I would like a bit more bass sub bass with good vocals I want my headsets to make me feel the rumble and punch like a car stereo with good subwoofers amps and tweeters would feel I m yet to discover that kind of a set would love to hear any iem that would suggest
Yeah the two are very different because Estrella has a super boost in the treble. But Estrellas 2DD sounds better to me and it stages better. Dynaquattro is one where the HRTF is off for me, I know people will love it but it grates on me, doesn't feel comfortable.
Im so torn but awaiting delivery. Im hoping its great for metal! I like the P5 but there's something about it that i feel hurts my experience at louder volumes, and the Cincotres is smoother which i am learning i dig more but lacks bass...i do like good treble though...its just the peakyness that hurts my ears. Will the Dynaquattro be my dream? 😮
Maybe, might fit between P5 and Cincotres. The hard part might be the treble level, I'd say its a bit low for me but I would prefer balance to a bass heavy sound.
Also, does anyone know which frequency or frequencies have to do with making a toms on drums sound punchy? Theres a certain point where it pierces the ears that i cant find it described on a graph but would like to know what parts of the graph that would be represented. Any help is appreciated.
Here is my advice, if you look on squig, it breaks subbass 20-80hz, midbass 80-300hz. Raise and lower those levels in EQ on your favorite set on your favorite tracks. You can also split midbass in half, lower and upper and do the same. Or you can cheat and play your tracks with a histogram or other frequency display to get a better idea.
You were saying anything above 10db was a lot of added bass so does that mean 60db is a reference? And if so, how would I know when I'm listening as loud as what an iem was tested at? I have no idea how low I listen to music and how tuning is affected by it.
Most people look at the 20hz value and the bottom of the mids which if they are flat, will be normalized at 60db. Many sets will have slightly less than 10db bass shelf like the Harman target. Over 10db isn't as common and that is bass fan territory. Volume is more of a mystery, most people who care are either low or high listeners. With low volume, lower ear gain sounds too muddy. With high volume and 10db of ear gain area, that sounds too bright. If you never noticed, you are probably in the middle
Yeah but its kinda bass heavy too so more volume, tips with wider bore, brighter source all might make it sound more open. The price puts it at the level that most people want it to be open without much hassle

If it sounds good with Larry Carton and Jeff Beck it could be the IEM I'm looking for. Sadly my pocket doesn't approve 😢

Nice review. I've been fighting to get that bass/mids shelf juuuust right and its not easy.
It is so tough and I will give sets credit when they get reasonably close or affordably priced, but $200+, it should be closer.
I'll always find it funny that this 4 (kinda) DD set and the 5 DD 7hz Five came out at roughly the same time. 😂
Or multiple planars named Luna, and a dac too.
Right, CCA had a Trio. There were quite a few multiple DD sets released at the same time, I guess everyone though it was a good idea.
I am curious what you think of it compared to Estrella. Those two have similar bass, but very different treble.

I heard it requires some power to open up. Is it true?

@@PaulWasabii That's a very good point. I too don't like giving much thought about DAC pairing and tip rolling and stuff.
