    I have a King Tone Mini Fuzz V2 that comes with BC183s. Many users complain that it sounds too dark, more as a germanium fuzz. Well, maybe that is precisely why it was chosen as an alternative to unstable germanium transistors by Eric Johnson, and why it is used in so many modern fuzz versions for Hendrix tones.
    I am always so pleased by your playing. Congrats,

      Thanks man! I have to agree with you. My nkt275s are great but I think I’d struggle live with them. Bc183 is solid.

    Good demonstration of this pedal. BC183 Fuzzes are sweet sounding. To me they can be wooly but bright at the same time. Somewhere between a germanium fuzz and a silicon fuzz. It has some of the warmth of germanium and some of the bite of silicon. A good transistor for a fuzz face type pedal. It is very musical and in my opinion mixes well with the rest of the band.

    Those 183's are made in three different gain ranges.
    I don't know how much the input capacitor affects the response between hot stacks, strat/singkes or humbuckers.
    But this demo sure sounds nice as it is good to see you grooving.
    What about pnp silicone?
    Or even with a rangemaster tone bleeding tr/buffer.
    Truth be told it's how the front end gets pushed. For a tiny amp it sure sounds nice. God put on some effects for future demos...

      I appreciate that. Didn’t know Mike used different bc183s. If you look around on my channel you’ll hear more devices in context. I’ve been into vacuum tube distortion as of lately.

    Nice playing! I noticed on another video you also have a Sabbadius Electric Church Fuzz. Can you describe the difference between that and the BC183 Sunface?

    • @joeriffanucci
      @joeriffanucci  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for watching. The Electric Church has less Gain and low end. The Wah Trick is interesting but acts a lot like the bias control on the Sunface. Still learning the Electric Church. It works great into other gains just like the SF. It also can run off AC. Both worth trying😊

  • @the92project

    Excellent video. That scratchy pot is your volume pot being super dirty. Fuzz pedals don’t do that. Gotta spray some deoxit inside that pot and fixed.

  • @MattiasTeamCTM

    Nice playing! I have this BC183 Sun Face pedal on order right now! Do you always have the gain on max and use the guitar volume pot to taste? Or do you turn down the gain a little bit on the pedal? How do you have the internal trimmers set? Clean trimmer on full and bias as from factory or how do you have that dialed in? Do you always have it before a clean amp or do you set it broken up or into an overdrive pedal?

    • @joeriffanucci
      @joeriffanucci  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks. I use it in several ways. My favorite is to hit a tube Overdrive(set to barely breaking up) or amp that is in a similar scenario turning volume on the fuzz way up and fuzz back to barely on. If I use a clearer amp and just the fuzz I turn volume up 1/2 to 3/4 and fuzz to taste for the most saturated tone I want, then bring guitar volume down for my rhythm sounds.

    • @MattiasTeamCTM
      @MattiasTeamCTM 3 ปีที่แล้ว

  • @SpeedGraphicsTV
    @SpeedGraphicsTV 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Joe wondering how this might sound with a heavily driven plexi? I have a Bray plexi that I leave dirty- brown sound-ish. Have you used this with a plexi gained up? Any insight qould be appreciated! Thank you! Just beautiful playing. Could listen to you play all day.

    • @joeriffanucci
      @joeriffanucci  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think it’ll work well. It’s more of a gain with fidelity. I have a few germanium fuzzes that are rounder, fatter and woolier that will sound great with a crunchy Marshall circuit. This one is silicon and there is an internal bias knob that could focus it or make it real spitty. What kind of tone are you after with fuzz into a gained up plexi? Lead, rhythm? It works great with the volume control on the guitar. I use them into a tube gain preamp in front of Gjika amps. Essentially a crunchy gain tone too. Really quiet (back ground) and big tone that way. Thanks again for the kind words. I truly appreciate them.

    • @SpeedGraphicsTV
      @SpeedGraphicsTV 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@joeriffanucci Sure! You deserve ALL the compliments you get! That was poetry in motion... I love Hendrix- so really just that screaming lead tone and then rolling back the volume for a change of pace. I'm thinking a brighter tone would be best since I don't want it getting too muddy- I'm using humbuckers for the most part...

  • @crosbycofod5052

    Trying to get a singular my only fuzz pedal- would you recommend this? Running a princeton reverb pushed with tele

    • @joeriffanucci
      @joeriffanucci  ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s pretty great for that. You may find the high end on the Princeton needs to be tamed a bit. Also not maxing the fuzz level is advised. There’s also a few trim pots for Bias and input Gain which help make it more seamless. Hope that helps.
