    Please make sure the tail is at least 50x the diameter of the Dyneema you are using. If you are coming close to the breakingstrength, use at least 70 times the diameter.

    Only question....who made the music?
    Would love this groove filling the air as I blast reach in the summer breeze.

    i have been stressing my bowline knots, thinking that splicing eyes on dyneema was going to be a seriously painful and tedious process. you have just shown it to be extremely simple. how well does this type of eye splicing hold up to use? whats the drag on tensile strength?

    Great tutorial, thanks. How could one make the same loop at both ends? It doesn't seem like this process would be possible on the second end.

    Can you assume that the diameter of the band will double (due to the band being pulled through)?

    • @Premiumropes
      @Premiumropes  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi, the final diameter is not 2* initial diameter, but square root 2 x initial diameter. This is because you are adding surface

    What kind of rope is that and where can i get it

    • @marlenen6130
      @marlenen6130 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It looks like 1/8 or 1/4 Amsteel Blue rope from Samson Rope. Most Marine supply stores have it by the foot. Or Dutchwear gear for hammocking supplies sells it and specialized hooks, toggles and tensioning devices. You can even buy whoopie slings already made. Lol. Hope that helps. I’ve just learned how to make continuous loops to replace the end knots in my hammocks. Next learning how to do the soft shackles for my tarps.

    How much would it affect the strength if i used 20x the diameter ?

  • @dkenny
    @dkenny 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    why taper the end? looks or strength? we're looking to replace our life lines with this product and maybe the topping lift(1/4 stainless at the moment).

    • @Premiumropes
      @Premiumropes  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's quite a good idea (www.premiumropes.com/d-core). The tapering makes the rope easier to pull through and it makes a stronger smooth end.

    Thanks for the video! Do you have a manual how to do the loops from both sides?

    • @Premiumropes
      @Premiumropes  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can do this exactly the same way. For the 2nd splice pull the full eye trough the ropes. Alternatively, in case one side is fixed, you can not do this we have another video: www.premiumropes.com/splicing-rope/splicing-instruction-videos#singlebraidsplice ---------- SEE TITTLE: "Single braided line made from super fibres such as Dyneema® or Stirotex - use when one end is attached"

    Does this sacrifice any of the line strength? Thank you! Very useful video!

    • @DSPLICERneedle
      @DSPLICERneedle 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Gunsite45, if done right a splice should not sacrifice anything of the line strenght. However, as a rule of thumb we calculate between 5-10% loss in strenght.

    I'm lead to understand that 50 X the diameter has changed to 72 X diameter. Is this correct?

    • @Premiumropes
      @Premiumropes  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      DSM (producer of Dyneema) advises 60 times the diameter and we do too. We have is a new version of this video: th-cam.com/video/ohZyauGKfmc/w-d-xo.html

    Can the short end be load bearing to create a midline loop?

    • @Premiumropes
      @Premiumropes  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's possible. But be aware that the breaking strength of the line will decrease by 50%.

    • @markprice46
      @markprice46 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Would you suggest another way to create a midline loop?

  • @Tb0n3
    @Tb0n3 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thought I'd try this in nylon braid so I didn't have to spend a billion on dyneema. It's nearly impossible to even get the lock, let alone get a fid all the way through the center.

    • @Premiumropes
      @Premiumropes  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's important to use this splice for a single braid construction. Not all ropes can be spliced this way

    Good video. What happens if you don't bury the shorter line. Does it weaken the line by just relying on the Brummel knot?

    • @Premiumropes
      @Premiumropes  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, You'll need the bury for the strenght of the splice. Otherwise it won't hold the strength.
