The difference between the two is blecks story was built up over time before having a satisfying end where he finally meets his love again and Fixes what he did. Olly reasoning was shown and resolved within the last hour of the game. It doesn’t build up, you don’t feel that bad for him because all you’ve seen him do is awful things then his reason at the end Feels underwhelming. Count bleck doesn’t feel completely evil just hurt angry and lost that he lost his love, olly did it because he was paper that he though was scribbled on it could have been good if was properly explored on. I respect your opinion though.

I’ll admit, this video does make a good point that Dimentio’s goal could be a utopian society. But that doesn’t excuse his attempted omnicide on all dimensions. Plus, Dimentio threatens more than just one world unlike Shadow Queen. So Dimentio is definitely more evil.

Honestly, DooPliss could’ve been an extremely evil villain, he took Mario’s identity and could’ve smeared and destroyed his reputation beyond repair. But he didn’t.

I feel like Beldam definitely should have been in the Evil Masterminds list. She explicitly states that she’s the one who created the rumor of a treasure behind the Door, so that explorers will find the Crystal Stars and open it, thus releasing the Shadow Queen. She even sought out Grodus and the X-Nauts to use them and their resources. She’s smarter than she looks.
This. She may not be all that powerful in a fight (her attacks are Nasty but the threat’s relatively low if you take her out first; and she has far less health than her sisters or Doopliss), and clearly has issues keeping up with short-term memory and an awareness of her surroundings (she’s constantly abusing Vivian for her own failings; and it’s a running gag for Marilyn to desperately try to get Beldam aware of what’s in the Now but ultimately can’t get Beldam’s attention) But…long term planning? She SHINES. And in the case of Grodus she intentionally gets anyone who isn’t working under her to underestimate her. (And it feels pretty implied that not only did she keep Vivian and Marilyn then Marilyn and Doopliss at odds to prevent them from teaming up against her, she kept the Shadow Siren’s true origins and purpose tight-lipped, too-Vivian apologizes for her sister’s Master Plan to revive the Shadow Queen and her true origins, but it isn’t clear how much of this Vivian was aware of before the Grand Reveal.)
Actually, Tribe of Darkness is a branch of the Tribe of Ancients, they just decided to create another tribe as they were more powerful with dark powers
I personally think the other guy's list was more accurate; Dimentio wanting to destroy the entire Multiverse and not just the planet is clearly a lot more evil than Shadow Queen. And also, King Olly and Bleck both had redeeming qualities, especially Bleck. Bleck's motive was more so out of depression and loneliness rather than out of "Evil Mastermind" plans. Beldam was also the true Mastermind of Thousand Year Door, while Grodus had much more ego, Beldam was much more cruel especially towards Vivian.

Personally, I think Dimentio is worse. Mainly because, yes, we don't know exactly what his "perfect world" would look like, safe to say where he gets his pleasures from: torture, killing, manipulation, and sadistic tendencies. That his perfect world would be only for him to destroy over and over again until he gets bored.
Agreed, Dimentio should of been Number One- plus, that doesn't even take into account his true most evil deed: when he was defeaten, Dimentio used all their remaining power before they died in order to destroy all worlds out of pure spite, *without bringing them back.* In short, after Dimentio lost, they attempted multiversal omnicide out of spite, with no intention to bring anything back-
Let's not forget that Dimentio did the one thing that no other Mario villain did aside from Bleck. He possessed Luigi to purposefully kill Mario. The only difference is that Dimento took personal delight in this.
Also, in a video 1-up binge also made about ranking all Mario villains in general, not just paper, Dimentio was at the top and Shadow Queen I think was #6. What changed the placement here?
The Smorg was originally a creature sent by Beldam of the Shadow Sirens in order to stop Mario from reaching Poshley Heights. That was the intended route with them but the idea got scrapped due to time so they ended up being this boss that came out of nowhere. They probably would've ranked a bit higher if Nintendo still went with that route.
i agree with most of the spm rankings, especially with mimi being that high! but i really do believe dimentio shouldve been number 1, he literally kills luigi in an empty world and says "nobody will find the body" (not verbatim of course) and he actually kills the whole posse and *sends them to hell* (minus peach) and his goal to destroy the whole multiverse wasnt even motivated by grief like bleck was, he really was just that much of an ass. thats just my opinion tho!! i loved this video and loved hearing ur thoughts on all the villains! this is the first video ive seen from ur channel n will definitely tune in in the future 💛
Actually, we really don't know his motivations. Maybe he's just a manipulative asshole, or maybe he had a worse backstory than the count. He's really good at the mysterious jester thing, which means we can't get a true reading of what he's like. I mean for all we know he was trying to destroy the worlds in order to stop them from dooming everyone to a fate worse than death (I'm joking. I frankly doubt he could ever be benevolent force, but the fact that we can even consider him, if only in passing, to be a somewhat-well-intentioned extremist shows just how little we know him).
Technically he doesn't' murder them. He teleports them alive to the Underwhere. It's implied multiple times, that if their games had truly ended, then they would have been trapped wherever they ended up. He didn't mind destroying them with the rest of the world, but neither did Count Bleck. The only real difference is how they view themselves. Dimentio believes he deserves to live create a new world, Bleck doesn't believe he or anyone else does.
Dimentio straight up murdered Mario, Peach, and Bowser on screen and is 1 out of the only 2 pure evils in Mario history the only other one is King Boo. also the Shadow Queen has no moral agency she doesn't understand the difference between good and evil

Same with the Shroobs, many people say that the Shroobs are more evil than Dimentio, even though I feel like they are mainly doing their evil acts in order to survive. Dimentio actively knows what he is doing and literally is a narcissistic jester who only cares about himself.

What brought back to light in this video for me was TTYD and SPM really did an amazing job of creating character arcs and providing storytelling for the heroes, neutrals & villains (I mean cmon, Bobbery's backstory?!) So while yeah there's a divide with OG-paper Mario and the newer titles, all I'll say is that the those two titles specifically did amazing work in creating a rich backstory that intertwined really well with most characters you encountered. Also, great video! Haha
That's funny. There's another Mario villain video on this channel where Bleck is placed in the redeemed category as one of the kindest. King Ollie had a similar situation I believe, with his assessment reduced. Grodus wasn't even mentioned, and I believe Dimensio was placed as more evil than the Shadow Queen. So that's quite a lack of consistency.

I think you should have included the koopalings. Personally, I would put them under "servants of evil" right after the snifits. (They're above Bowser Jr., Kamek and Bowser since much like Kammy, we've never seen them do good deeds.)

My List: most to least evil main villain 1. Dimentio (Wants to destroy everything to possibly create his “perfect” world in the void) 2. Olly (Wants to commit genocide of all toads for having the equivalent of a bad, but very hidden birth mark) 3. Count Bleck (Wants to destroy everything due to personal tragedy, but makes up for it with an arc) 4. Grodus ( Just wants to conquer the world and probably would not hesitate to use any means necessary) 5. Bowser ( Just wants to take over the world, but has limits specifically avoidance of genocide unlike all the other villains on this list) Please comment down below if you have a different interpretation or agree with my list. Also I did not list the shadow queen because she is the literal incarnation of all evil in the paperverse
@@seantaggart7382 well technically the Sammer Kingdom was left that way for the time being to show Mario what Bleck would rather have. Remember Dimentio had Mario run through the previous worlds before the fight between him and Luigi. He would then try to convince Mario to join him to stop Bleck from completing his goal of leaving the worlds in ruin, like the Sammer Kingdom was. I’m pretty sure if Dimentio won, he would recreate something from the nothingness that was Sammer Kingdom.

I mostly agree with this list however Tubba Blubba should have been ranked in the Servents of Evil section since it's not like he's evil for the sake of it and wouldn't have gone evil in the first place if the Boos didn't keep scaring him.
22:56 That wouldn't have been necessary though when people constantly told the Devs that they liked the Battle Systems that were created Pre-Sticker Star and that they didn't like the Combat System in Sticker Star. Instead of fixing it they instead doubled down on the System and kept using it for Color Splash despite no one liking it. Here they made the combat far more complex then it ever needed to be with solving puzzles in order to attack the enemy
I personally think Beldam should be higher on the list. In TTYD, she purposefully withheld a crucial bit of knowledge from Grodus; that the Shadow Queen would NOT obey anyone whether they summoned her or not. Heck, even Vivian didn't know about this. Plus she knew the Shadow Queen personally, knew the true extent of her power, and was more than happy to have her Queen lay waste to anything and everything. Grodus thought he was the one in control, but she was using him and he never realized it. And between him and Mario scrambling to find the stars, she knew it literally didn't matter which of them succeeded. Also, I agree with the Shadow Queen being top of the list. Everything about her, her voice, her look, her powers all give an overwhelming sense of dread and terror. I felt this when I first saw her and no other Mario villain made me feel that way; I was genuinely TERRIFIED. And she's ruthless; if you're her enemy, you're dead on sight. Those Shadow gals don't play around.
Yeah I kinda feel like he should have been higher since he is responsible for The Legion of Stationary, Bobby’s death, folding the Vellumentals, and almost *MADE TOADS EXTINCT*
I don’t think Bowser was neutral in Origami King. While he wasn’t available long, and is absent most of the game, he helps Mario and Olivia a lot late game. He gives the airship to Olly’s castle, helps in battle as a partner, and defeats Olly’s second phase of battle. He has 2 games as a villain, 2 as a hero, and 2 neutral. His placement doesn’t change, but he was good in Origami King.
So even though Dimentio deceived a grieving lover to destroy all worlds only to betray him to destroy an unfathomable amount of sentient life all for his perfect world, of which according to his previous actions of doing things for the lols makes it look like just a place where he will have infinite fun, he gets second because of the slim chance his ideal world included anyone and everyone as well? I honestly just can't agree.

Beldam fully knows what Shadow Queen is capable of, given she has served her for thousands of years. She is not being forced by SQ to do any of her actions in the game and fully intends to release her, making her just as bad if not worse than she is, given she doesn't have massive power at her fingertips. The cruelty to Vivian is just the cherry on top to cement her as more evil. She is the main villain of TTYD.
THIS! Everyone seems to say the Shadow Queen's the main antagonist, but she's more of a "MacGuffin" than anything IMO The main antagonist would be someone who is essentially responsible for the events of a story and the one with evil intentions in mind (like with Bowser stealing the Star Rod, or Dimentio wiping out multiple worlds) - and with that, Beldam fits those qualities... SHE is the main antagonist (and I'd definitely put her at 2nd most evil, only losing out to Dimentio)
I would personally rank Count Bleck as higher than Dimentio, as to be honest I consider destroying all worlds forever to be worse than destroying all worlds to create new ones that are perfect. Despite Bleck's change of heart, what he planned to go through with was horrendous- Not to mention condoning Nastasia's hypnosis, Mimi's slavery, and even manipulating his subjects himself. I would also rank the Shadow Queen below both of them, as she would be ruining only one world- Not literally all of them. Great video, though! I enjoyed your thorough analysis on all of these fun characters. :)
seriously you guys are going to put a bland steryotypical dark form over a pure evil villain who is widely considered THE most evil Mario villain in history and is right up there with Hades, Ridley, Andross, Porky Minch, and Majora in terms of evil if not worse than all of them

But the wiki doesn't say anything about the worlds he wishes to create after destroying the existing ones, because there's no information regarding them. All we got is this quote: "Now the Chaos Heart is mine! I will use it to destroy all worlds... And create perfect new ones! So, shall we get started? Now I have all I need... *To* *become* *the* *king* *of* *all* *worlds* !" So yes, he does want to create new "perfect" worlds, but we don't know what his definition of a "perfect world" is. It COULD be a chaotic universe where he sits on a throne of skulls like you mentioned, or as the video said, it could be a utopia. But because we don't know, he's in Pure Evil. And even if it is the latter, it really does not excuse his attempted omnicide.

Marilyn is aware, she’s just nonverbal. There are several times Marilyn is trying to get the others’ attention to their objective, but Beldam’s too busy berating Vivian to pay her any attention. Honestly Beldam treats her like an infant and may be the cause for Marilyn not speaking-she’s literally never given the chance to that we see, so that skill never developed. (Or she’s simply nonverbal, which doesn’t make her cognitively challenged. And you don’t master and use magic without developing it by your own focus and efforts.) She’s at most a pushover with no real morality of her own…but it’s clear that the Shadow Sirens’ actions are an extension of Beldam’s Ambitions verses something Merilyn and Vivian feel strongly about. (Which, in the credits Vivian reconciles with their family, so we can assume that was largely between the younger siblings and finally putting boundaries around Beldam-I just can’t see Beldam suddenly wanting to be nicer after a millennium of abusive habits)
I absolutely would imagine that Vivian and Marilyn are able to finally understand one another ...and I also like to headcanon that Beldam quickly forgot her promise to Vivian. You already know how poor her short-term memory can be
Shadow Queen is the worst enemy Mario has ever fought, she is basically inmortal and gives you the sensation that you already Lost and you can't do anything against her, basically incredible this villain
To all the people upset about Dimentio not getting #1, remember: he did get the top of the Super Mario villains: Good to Evil list EDIT: then again, this vid was released before the Mario Villains: Good to Evil sooooooo...yeah
What I like about TTYD's main villain is she isn't even seen throughout most of the game but her influence has lead to the game's events. The Shadow Sirens? Her minions. Beldam using the X-Nauts. Part of her plan. The Crystal Stars that often fell into the hands of villains and had their powers abused? She created those. Those dragons? Her pets. Heck the presence of the Crystal Stars was what lead Bowser to Rogueport and lead to conflicts with him and Mario. This in turn makes her the real mastermind behind the events of the game and that's something insane because for the most part she's in her castle tomb waiting for the right moment. Mario doesn't even meet her in person until the game's climax and when Grodus finally summons her let's just say all the build up to her reveal was well worth it resulting in one of the most epic boss fights to save the world from a tyrant beyond the grave.

Olly is still one of the most ridiculous villains I've ever seen and the fact that the reason behind all of this is because of the Toads being clones of each other just makes matters worse and insulting.

But that was because she couldn't be the vessel of the Chaos heart since it was her and Bowser that created it. Luigi was the only one who was a suitable vessel for the Chaos heart besides Mario, but he couldn't get to him unlike luigi

I’ll admit, this video does make a good point that Dimentio’s goal could be a utopian society. But that doesn’t excuse his attempted omnicide on all dimensions. Plus, Dimentio threatens more than just one world unlike Shadow Queen. So Dimentio is definitely more evil.

I feel like Beldam definitely should have been in the Evil Masterminds list. She explicitly states that she’s the one who created the rumor of a treasure behind the Door, so that explorers will find the Crystal Stars and open it, thus releasing the Shadow Queen. She even sought out Grodus and the X-Nauts to use them and their resources. She’s smarter than she looks.

She may not be all that powerful in a fight (her attacks are Nasty but the threat’s relatively low if you take her out first; and she has far less health than her sisters or Doopliss), and clearly has issues keeping up with short-term memory and an awareness of her surroundings (she’s constantly abusing Vivian for her own failings; and it’s a running gag for Marilyn to desperately try to get Beldam aware of what’s in the Now but ultimately can’t get Beldam’s attention)
But…long term planning? She SHINES. And in the case of Grodus she intentionally gets anyone who isn’t working under her to underestimate her. (And it feels pretty implied that not only did she keep Vivian and Marilyn then Marilyn and Doopliss at odds to prevent them from teaming up against her, she kept the Shadow Siren’s true origins and purpose tight-lipped, too-Vivian apologizes for her sister’s Master Plan to revive the Shadow Queen and her true origins, but it isn’t clear how much of this Vivian was aware of before the Grand Reveal.)

I personally think the other guy's list was more accurate; Dimentio wanting to destroy the entire Multiverse and not just the planet is clearly a lot more evil than Shadow Queen. And also, King Olly and Bleck both had redeeming qualities, especially Bleck. Bleck's motive was more so out of depression and loneliness rather than out of "Evil Mastermind" plans. Beldam was also the true Mastermind of Thousand Year Door, while Grodus had much more ego, Beldam was much more cruel especially towards Vivian.

Personally, I think Dimentio is worse. Mainly because, yes, we don't know exactly what his "perfect world" would look like, safe to say where he gets his pleasures from: torture, killing, manipulation, and sadistic tendencies. That his perfect world would be only for him to destroy over and over again until he gets bored.

Let's not forget that Dimentio did the one thing that no other Mario villain did aside from Bleck. He possessed Luigi to purposefully kill Mario. The only difference is that Dimento took personal delight in this.

The Smorg was originally a creature sent by Beldam of the Shadow Sirens in order to stop Mario from reaching Poshley Heights. That was the intended route with them but the idea got scrapped due to time so they ended up being this boss that came out of nowhere. They probably would've ranked a bit higher if Nintendo still went with that route.

i agree with most of the spm rankings, especially with mimi being that high! but i really do believe dimentio shouldve been number 1, he literally kills luigi in an empty world and says "nobody will find the body" (not verbatim of course) and he actually kills the whole posse and *sends them to hell* (minus peach) and his goal to destroy the whole multiverse wasnt even motivated by grief like bleck was, he really was just that much of an ass. thats just my opinion tho!! i loved this video and loved hearing ur thoughts on all the villains! this is the first video ive seen from ur channel n will definitely tune in in the future 💛
Actually, we really don't know his motivations. Maybe he's just a manipulative asshole, or maybe he had a worse backstory than the count. He's really good at the mysterious jester thing, which means we can't get a true reading of what he's like. I mean for all we know he was trying to destroy the worlds in order to stop them from dooming everyone to a fate worse than death (I'm joking. I frankly doubt he could ever be benevolent force, but the fact that we can even consider him, if only in passing, to be a somewhat-well-intentioned extremist shows just how little we know him).
Technically he doesn't' murder them. He teleports them alive to the Underwhere. It's implied multiple times, that if their games had truly ended, then they would have been trapped wherever they ended up. He didn't mind destroying them with the rest of the world, but neither did Count Bleck. The only real difference is how they view themselves. Dimentio believes he deserves to live create a new world, Bleck doesn't believe he or anyone else does.
Let's not forget that the Shadow Queen literally slaughters the entire audience in the middle of her boss fight just to restore her HP.

What brought back to light in this video for me was TTYD and SPM really did an amazing job of creating character arcs and providing storytelling for the heroes, neutrals & villains (I mean cmon, Bobbery's backstory?!)
So while yeah there's a divide with OG-paper Mario and the newer titles, all I'll say is that the those two titles specifically did amazing work in creating a rich backstory that intertwined really well with most characters you encountered.

That's funny. There's another Mario villain video on this channel where Bleck is placed in the redeemed category as one of the kindest. King Ollie had a similar situation I believe, with his assessment reduced. Grodus wasn't even mentioned, and I believe Dimensio was placed as more evil than the Shadow Queen. So that's quite a lack of consistency.

I mostly agree with this list however Tubba Blubba should have been ranked in the Servents of Evil section since it's not like he's evil for the sake of it and wouldn't have gone evil in the first place if the Boos didn't keep scaring him.
22:56 That wouldn't have been necessary though when people constantly told the Devs that they liked the Battle Systems that were created Pre-Sticker Star and that they didn't like the Combat System in Sticker Star. Instead of fixing it they instead doubled down on the System and kept using it for Color Splash despite no one liking it. Here they made the combat far more complex then it ever needed to be with solving puzzles in order to attack the enemy
I personally think Beldam should be higher on the list. In TTYD, she purposefully withheld a crucial bit of knowledge from Grodus; that the Shadow Queen would NOT obey anyone whether they summoned her or not. Heck, even Vivian didn't know about this. Plus she knew the Shadow Queen personally, knew the true extent of her power, and was more than happy to have her Queen lay waste to anything and everything. Grodus thought he was the one in control, but she was using him and he never realized it. And between him and Mario scrambling to find the stars, she knew it literally didn't matter which of them succeeded.
Also, I agree with the Shadow Queen being top of the list. Everything about her, her voice, her look, her powers all give an overwhelming sense of dread and terror. I felt this when I first saw her and no other Mario villain made me feel that way; I was genuinely TERRIFIED. And she's ruthless; if you're her enemy, you're dead on sight.

I don’t think Bowser was neutral in Origami King. While he wasn’t available long, and is absent most of the game, he helps Mario and Olivia a lot late game. He gives the airship to Olly’s castle, helps in battle as a partner, and defeats Olly’s second phase of battle. He has 2 games as a villain, 2 as a hero, and 2 neutral. His placement doesn’t change, but he was good in Origami King.

The cruelty to Vivian is just the cherry on top to cement her as more evil. She is the main villain of TTYD.

The main antagonist would be someone who is essentially responsible for the events of a story and the one with evil intentions in mind (like with Bowser stealing the Star Rod, or Dimentio wiping out multiple worlds) - and with that, Beldam fits those qualities... SHE is the main antagonist (and I'd definitely put her at 2nd most evil, only losing out to Dimentio)

I would personally rank Count Bleck as higher than Dimentio, as to be honest I consider destroying all worlds forever to be worse than destroying all worlds to create new ones that are perfect. Despite Bleck's change of heart, what he planned to go through with was horrendous- Not to mention condoning Nastasia's hypnosis, Mimi's slavery, and even manipulating his subjects himself. I would also rank the Shadow Queen below both of them, as she would be ruining only one world- Not literally all of them.

Marilyn is aware, she’s just nonverbal. There are several times Marilyn is trying to get the others’ attention to their objective, but Beldam’s too busy berating Vivian to pay her any attention. Honestly Beldam treats her like an infant and may be the cause for Marilyn not speaking-she’s literally never given the chance to that we see, so that skill never developed. (Or she’s simply nonverbal, which doesn’t make her cognitively challenged. And you don’t master and use magic without developing it by your own focus and efforts.)
She’s at most a pushover with no real morality of her own…but it’s clear that the Shadow Sirens’ actions are an extension of Beldam’s Ambitions verses something Merilyn and Vivian feel strongly about. (Which, in the credits Vivian reconciles with their family, so we can assume that was largely between the younger siblings and finally putting boundaries around Beldam-I just can’t see Beldam suddenly wanting to be nicer after a millennium of abusive habits)
I absolutely would imagine that Vivian and Marilyn are able to finally understand one another
...and I also like to headcanon that Beldam quickly forgot her promise to Vivian. You already know how poor her short-term memory can be
Shadow Queen is the worst enemy Mario has ever fought, she is basically inmortal and gives you the sensation that you already Lost and you can't do anything against her, basically incredible this villain

What I like about TTYD's main villain is she isn't even seen throughout most of the game but her influence has lead to the game's events. The Shadow Sirens? Her minions. Beldam using the X-Nauts. Part of her plan. The Crystal Stars that often fell into the hands of villains and had their powers abused? She created those. Those dragons? Her pets. Heck the presence of the Crystal Stars was what lead Bowser to Rogueport and lead to conflicts with him and Mario. This in turn makes her the real mastermind behind the events of the game and that's something insane because for the most part she's in her castle tomb waiting for the right moment. Mario doesn't even meet her in person until the game's climax and when Grodus finally summons her let's just say all the build up to her reveal was well worth it resulting in one of the most epic boss fights to save the world from a tyrant beyond the grave.
