Being one of the most celebrated game series as far back as it’s early days on the N.E.S..., Mario has been on a lot of adventures throughout the years. Ranging from running after Bowser to stop him from stealing Peach, all the way to stopping a hostile planetary takeover. He’s always willing to race into danger to save the day. And throughout all these risky heroics, there are villains more than capable of making Mario’s life a living nightmare. But with all these villains, who is the worst of the bunch?

Mario did do a few heinous things, but calling him an actual villain is a pretty big leap. He still has done a lot of good deeds throughout his story.
It's no secret how Game Theory gets a lot wrong: just look at the "Sans is Ness theory".

The fact that Dimentio just casually killed Mario like it was nothing, and did succeed in erasing an entire world from existence for a solid chunk of the game makes him easily the most evil and dangerous. (And he’s my favorite Mario character because of it! 😁)

Good points! Dimentio was definitely the most evil villain in Mario history, and he almost won! If he was right and the Pure Hearts really couldn't be reused after Bleck was defeated, he would've succeeded. And he made a failsafe - if Bleck and Tippi couldn't "defeat" the Chaos Heart that Dimentio's "shadow" was controlling, he would've succeeded (in a sense). In fact, that's even more evil to me - even if he can't remake the omniverse, he'd still prefer to destroy it out of spite.
Edit: I wrote my comment before I got to Dimentio, and I'm glad he mentioned Dimentio's spiteful "failsafe".

@@draco4569 well to get Mario Peach and Bowser to the next world he had to kill them. They went to the land of the dead, they couldn’t really get there without the door unless they died. So he did actually kill them, they just had “extra lives” like any Mario game character.

I, too, have no arguments with this list. Dimentio's spot on the list is very, very well-deserved.
If it were my choice, Bowser would be the least evil because of his good fatherhood to his son, he’s willing to put differences aside for the good of the kingdom, and he’s just a lovable character outside of his job in the games. That’s why I love Bowser so much!😊
Bowser never puts his differences asides for the good of the kingdom,but so he could rule it afterwards,so he could kill and enslave toads,which he did in the past. Yes,he's a loveable villain,but he is evil.
Hes also a pretty good boss considering how extremely loyal his minions are, it takes mainly control to make them turn on him

Correction here: it was Merlon who turned Timpani into the Pixl Tippi when he discovered her, near death, after being forced to wander between dimensions. Blumiere's father hurt Timpani very badly and cursed her to wander endlessly, never able to reunite with her lover... until the end of Super Paper Mario.
It may just be me, but I feel like most people that attempt to explain Count Bleck's backstory either in a Top 10 list or in a Morality Ranking video like this, they get so many facts wrong.
Someone ranked Count Bleck as the second most evil villain because he thought Tippi dumped him. When that wasn't the case at all.
Then Nin10doland mispronounced Tippi's name and also did stuff like horribly butcher the information on Dimentio…

I feel like the majority of people doing these lists don't even play the games they rank, and just look at character development forums to see how good/evil they are. At least this guy mentioned how Dimentio created the Dark prognosticus, but he loses points for pronouncing his name wrong. Dimentio is a name derivative of both "dimension' and "dementia", both of which do not have a hard T sound. And everyone views Count Bleck as evil when he didn't even have a choice in what he did. As soon as he opened the book, every page he read forced him to do what was on the page. If I remember correctly when he opened the book he thought it would just give him enough power to reach Timpani again, but the first page mentions that he needs to wipe out his home dimension so he does so. And after he does that, he doesn't reopen the book for a while, even saving Nastashia from a trap, showing he still values life like Timpani taught him. Between the dimension wipe and him reopening the book, he finds Mimi and Oh-Chunks and gets their friendship. They weren't even minions at this point. I could also go into the tragic backstories of Oh-Chunks and Mimi that nobody mentions in a top 10 evil list, which also annoys me. I won't talk about Oh-Chunks but Mimi was a failed Pixl experiment from the Ancients. Imagine if you were born in a lab and tested on and they accidentally gave you free will. Mimi almost certainly has an unhealthy amount of trauma, and the reason she likes money so much is probably because she had literally nothing and was born from an experiment. She probably had a similar reaction to if your parents told you that you were an accident and they didn't want you. Blumiere offered financial and emotional stability and in return friendship, and he gave what he said he would give. Mimi is a surprisingly fleshed out character and yet nobody seems to realize that, which is why it annoyed me when a certain youtuber ranked her #3 as the most evil characters in mario, only outclassed by the shadow queen and Dimentio. Mimi also reflects on Blumiere a little. He helped a pixl/human hybrid in need and only asked for genuine friendship in return (remind you of anyone? Merlin did the same thing). Anyway back to what I was saying about the Count. Blumiere went to extreme extents to find Timpani even KILLING HIMSELF in the process so he could search the underwhere and Overthere. If you look at him, he looks like a shayde, and they are the gray area characters, whereas the Nimbis are good characters and the Skellobits were the evil ones. This proves him as not evil, and Queen Jaydes probably felt pity on him and let him search the Overthere for Timpani. The only thing unclear is how he got back from the Overthere and I have a theory for that. I think this is where Dimentio comes in, he flips to the Overthere where Blumiere is, and offers his allegiance in return that he flips to the next page of the Dark Prognosticus. Dimentio, having written it, would know that the next page would fully convert Blumiere to Bleck, and give him the ability to leave without Jaydes' consent. And after that I think leads to the kidnapping of Peach. Granted that is a theory but it makes sense given the info we have. The only minion that Blumiere truly betrayed was Dimentio, because he decided to leave the worlds in ruin instead of making brand new ones, as the Prognosticus doesn't say anything about recreation, because Dimentio forgot to write it in there, which was a mistake that led to the prophecy being reversed. I'm sorry about the long paragraph lol, but it does annoy me that most youtubers that talk about SPM don't really know what they are talking about. At least this guy mentioned that Dimentio wrote the prognosticus so he probably played the game.

@@liannabunny7775 Yeah it makes perfect sense. He said he searched all dimensions and as far as we are aware the only people able to get to dimension 7 without dying were Dimentio (I mean he has power of Dimensions so it makes sense) and the people with the power of the pure heart. He also has the appearance of a shayde but dressed fancy, considering Nolrem is descended from the tribe of darkness you would assume that someone from the tribe of darkness would look similar to human at least, and the memories imply that he looked human when he was dating Timpani so the most logical solution is he ended his own game and the Dark Prognosticus was the only remaining link to the human world for him. It's explicitly stated that the only way for the Prognosticus to change owners is for someone else to steal it or or for the person controlling it die from the hero(s) of the Light Prognosticus. That's partly why Dimentio tried to kill Blumiere before Mario when Nastashia blocked his attack. He knew if Mario killed Bleck then the book would transfer ownership again and it would be a pain to get it back so he just waited for them to weaken Bleck so that he could 1: Kill Bleck and transfer ownership that way or 2: just steal the chaos heart because the Count was already weak enough that it didn't take that much power to take it. He also had to wait until Luigi's brain sprouted.
TLDR Yes I am very sure that he was dead during the events of SPM. There is no other real logical solution behind why he looks like a Shayde, and since Dimentio had ownership of the Prognosticus beforehand and he didn't look like a Shayde, it makes sense for him to change that way by the only means known in the game: dying

Bleck looks like a Shayde somewhat.
But you kinda forgot Nastasia's humanoid appearance is essentially the same species as Bleck, a member of the Tribe of Darkness.
And also, we have no exact clue on Mimi's true backstory. Some say she is a failed Pixl Experiment, some say she was the concoction of a Witch's Brewing when some witch decided to test Shapeshifting Potions. Others say she could be a robot due to the Gears on the side of Mimi's spider form in Chapter 2… I kind of want answers tbh, although Nintendo most likely would not give us the answers

As a child, mario and luigi brothers in time was the first game that made me creep out during the whole story, seeing what the shroobs did to the kingdom while playing was more terrifying than many horror games's plot

As evil as the Sroobs were it’s sad because it was kill or be killed for them as their home planet was no longer hospital for them, so it’s no wonder they took it so far. After all the name of the final boss theme is called “another’s requiem”.
What always saddened and fascinated me as a kid was in the final boss when the shroobs would use themselves as kamikazes in one of elder shroobs attacks
@@toonlink1723 yeah, but one can’t simply sympathize with them considering ALL the horrific things they did to the Mushroom Kingdom immediately upon arrival, they had bad intentions from the start, their lifestyle lead to the death of their planet, and they very likely would’ve done exactly the same to the Mushroom World should they’ve succeeded, and who knows how many planets suffered that fate prior to the one we see at the beginning of the game, they only knew how to destroy and consume, as technologically advanced as they were, and none of the Shroobs seemed to show any regrets or resistance at all, so no peace of any kind coming from them, they were nothing but a threat to life everywhere they went, and they can come back because Bowser has some very strong members in his fridge, being able to revive once unfrozen accidentally, and they’ll proceed to continue their total invasion agenda the very moment they get to move again

I, too, have been noticing how more unhinged King Boo was throughout the Luigi’s Mansion games. I believe LM3 was the first time he was shown to actively be angry.
The Shadow Queen not being higher than 6 is still criminal. She is definitely above King Boo (or top 4). That being said, the paper mario villains are absolutely insane!

I heard this channel (I think it was the same person? I haven't seen that many videos yet to know if multiple people make videos on this TH-cam channel) call Aku-Aku as 'a-coo a-coo'. Which sounds very much like 'a koe a koe', a 'koe' is the word for cow in Dutch. It annoyed me quite a bit.
When you think about it, Dimentio is the Dr. N. Tropy of the Mario Universe since N.Tropy also wanted to enslave the multi-verse and rebuild it to his likening.
The main difference is that N Tropy has at least some emotion and some care for his female counterpart while Dimentio is a complete sociopath without any emotion even in defeat and has litteraly no care for everyone.
When I first played Super Paper Mario, I really liked Dimentio. I thought he was revealed to be on the heroes' side from the beginning, what with plotting against Count Bleck and sending the heroes to Hell, which happened to be where they needed to go next. I thought the help he offered in Bleck's castle would have been genuine. But no. He was the true villain.
If I were deciding Dimentio's character, I would have thought it be cool to have him as a fake henchman of sorts. You know, be undercover for the good guys to ultimately destroy the bad guys? He gave off sort of a mad hatter vibe, and it really drew me to his character. I don't know, I do like the twist, but I wanted Dimentio to be the crazy magician that helped the heroes all along, albeit a little twisted in his ways of helping them along.
Darn me and my undying love of redeemed villains. Although I will say the twist was nice in that Count Bleck got a good ending, and was reunited with Tippi. That made me cry. But still... aaaaaaaahhhhh

Nah, Blumiere's father gravely wounded timpani before sending her off to the edge of dimensions. It was even darker than that.

A small correction: Dimentio didn’t actually kill Mario and co; he just teleported them to the Underwhere and made it look like they died. That’s why Queen Jaydes allows them to leave; once Mario finds her, she tells him that he is still very much alive
Edit: Oh, and another correction: The idea of Mario abusing Donkey Kong and making him perform in a circus comes from an actual game, which is just called “Circus”. You play as Donkey Kong juggling on a rolling barrel while Mario is laughing on the side. I’m pretty sure Mario was just meant to be part of the audience in that game, though

I'd honestly rank Lemmy as the only koopaling to have his own separate ranking from his siblings. I mean, he probably has the most personality out of any of them, because he's depicted as fun loving, and would rather join the circus than defeat Mario, so at least he doesn't want to do anything bad to Mario, so that at least makes his less evil than his siblings

Of course we all knew Dimentio was gonna get gold medal of evil on this list. He’s basically Nintendo’s version of Kefka. Who would have ever thought there would be a Mario character that evil!
This was a good list but I saw a few problems. For example they ranked the entire Shroob race together even though Elder Shroob cares about her sister when Princess Shroob doesn’t care for her. And the other Shroobs are just henchmen with little personality. King Boo should’ve also been higher, as he tried to destroy the whole universe.
Bowser should probably be in the bottom of “Wild Cards”.
He’s a good guy in some Paper Mario games, and it seems random whether or not he wants to be the villain, but he happens to be the villain more. He can even “take a break” from evil to play a kart game, a party, or some golf.

Bowser is a very good father, he has 8 kids who are super loyal to him. I was a kid when the SMB3 & SMW came out and the Koopalings were said to be his kids as well the cartoon series that said the same so I am staying with that.

Even the Dark Star has the reason of being some sort of clustered embodiment _of_ evil, but Dimentio just _is_ evil. He's a power hungry control freak megalomaniac who's implied to have set the entire plot of his game in motion for absolutely no reason. There is no dark past, no childhood trauma freudian excuse, no loss, no motive or goal. He's just completely twisted and sick in the head and he absolutely knows and embraces that. He's even shown to be able to change his expression and stop smiling at times when he feels more serious, yet he continues grinning like an idiot as he literally _kills_ the protagonists, in what felt like their safe "home base" area

When I first played Super Paper Mario, I thought Count Bleck would be the big bad given what he does and his overall image. Then I learned the intentions of Dimentio and was surprised by the twist.
Also, how could they not make a moment where Yoshi takes a liking to Birdo? Most of the spin offs seem to pair him with him/her, but Birdo appears more as an opponent to Mario in some games.

The Great Sage saved the Protagonist from the Dark Lord, was the one to originally trap the Genie in the Lamp, explained to the Protagonist that a monster without a face from a Mii is harmless (which would help later), sacrificed oneself to the Dark Curse so the Protagonist wouldn’t be possessed, and if the Protagonist chooses to give the Dark Curse a second chance at life, the Sage takes the Reborn in as their apprentice so they can atone for their crimes as the Dark Curse.
The Protagonist🥈
The Protagonist defeats hundreds of monsters, returning many faces to their rightful owners, including the ones in Greenhorne Town, Neksdor Town, and Elven Retreat. They also save a helpless horse, help get the Princess together with her true love, reform the Genie, save their teammates, defeat the Dark Lord twice, and help some travellers in need.
The Guardian Spirit🥉
The Guardian Spirit gave the Protagonist their powers and summoned their Teammates (besides the horse). However, the Protagonist is above them in terms of morality because while the Spirit did give the Protagonist their powers, they had no control over how the Protagonist used them, leading to them being a doing more admirable acts than the Spirit.
The Protagonist’s Teammates (and the horse)
The Teammates are summoned by the Guardian Spirit to aid the Protagonist on their quest, and the horse joins the team after being saved by them. The Teammates do help, but are prone to getting into fights with each other and the Protagonist. Meanwhile, the horse is just following orders and being loyal.
The Fab Fairies
When the Dark Lord attacked the Elven Retreat, the Fab Fairies worked together to force him into retreating, but not before the Middle and Eldest ones are kidnapped. With help from the Protagonist and their Teammates, the Youngest one rescues the Middle one and then goes to guard the retreat while the Middle one helps rescue the Eldest one. They then attempt to open the gate, but it results in the Youngest one getting her face stolen, along with the residents of the Elven Retreat. The Eldest one helps save them while the Middle one takes up guarding duty in the town. The Middle and Eldest ones are kind and calm, but the Youngest is quite bossy and rude, but she is willing to share her dessert, and all three are willing to go to great lengths to help each other.
The Besmirched Noble’s Son
This guy is quite weak, and often feels bad about it, but that doesn’t stop him from being brave and trying to help. When the Princess (his love interest) loses her face, he climbs Nightmare Tower to try to get it back. His bravery earns him the King’s blessing, and him and the Princess are allowed to marry and live their dream life together.
Dominic the Dragon
Dominic was put under mind control when the Dark Lord put a face on him, but after he’s freed, he helps the Protagonist and their Teammates by flying them where they need to go, and he is also the one to tell them about the Travellers’ Hub if they don’t know about it.
The Princess
The Princess of Greenhorne is a kind and fair person, but she doesn’t approve of the fact that she had to marry a prince, because she had already found love in the Besmirched Noble’s Son. She doesn’t do any heroic acts throughout the story, but she is a nice person, which barely puts her in the good.
*The Grey Area:*
The Ex-Dark Lord
Originally a worker at an HP Banana factory, this person, bored by their boring life, the Dark Curse convinces them to set him free with false promises of power and wealth, and the innocent worker ends up possessed, becoming the Dark Lord. After being freed, they’re encountered again at the Sky Scraper, where they help the Protagonist and their Teammates after being saved by them again.
The King
He rules Greenhorne, and he cared about the Princess, but until he learns about how much of a wuss the Prince of Neksdor is, he was trying to convince the Princess to marry him instead of the Besmirched Noble’s Son, not caring about how she loved him and not the Prince (because nobody likes the Prince). He does come around in the end, though. He also cannot seem to be able to put down a roast chicken.
The Genie of the Lamp🥉
In the past, the Genie wreaked havoc around Neksdor, stealing anything that might have any sort of value using his magic, until he is trapped by the Great Sage. A few years later, he convinces the Prince to free him, so he can finish what he started. However, the Protagonist arrives with the lamp, and threatens to use it if the gold isn’t returned. He then returns the gold to the Desert Celebrity, and when his face is taken, he learns for himself how it feels to have something taken from you. After it’s returned, he helps the Protagonist and their Teammates move on to Realm of the Fey, and spends the rest of the game working for the Desert Celebrity.
*Bad to Evil:*
The Prince from a Nearby Land🥈
The Prince is an arrogant brat. When the Protagonist and their Teammates find him, he yells at them and calls them imbeciles. He takes credit for things he doesn’t do, doesn’t take it lightly when he learns that the Princess doesn’t love him, and is a coward. He’s also gullible, as he was fooled easily by the Genie by false promises of a wish if freed. But worst of all is that he intended on using this wish to force to Princess to love him. Moving on, because the less said about this guy, the better.
The Dark Curse🥇
The Dark Curse is the main antagonist of Miitopia. Originally a normal mii, they were ignored all their life. They concluded that the reason for this was their boring face, so they cast it away. This caused them to turn into a soul which became consumed by hatred, envy and malice. Now the Dark Curse, it somehow traps himself in a forbidden box, and it lies to an innocent worker to be set free and have a vessel to possess. As the Dark Lord, it wreaked havoc around Miitopia, stealing thousands of faces and puts them on monsters for an army. After it’s defeated, it’s quick to attempt to possess the Protagonist, but gets the Great Sage instead, becoming the Darker Lord (I know, very original). Even if the Protagonist chooses to give it a second chance at life, the mii’s future actions don’t count because the Dark Curse was the embodiment of the mii’s hatred and envy, which would be gone in that case.

Yeah! Dimentio is definitely the most evil villain, he used his own team to get what he wanted and his enemies too, not caring about anything but his goal. I must say that he was very intelligent, his plan was quite good because from the beginning he had everything planned, he even became "invincible" by being Super Dimentio, but as always the script will magically make the good guys win.
Still, the ending of the game is very good.
My favorite Super Mario Villain has to be King Boo! He's got that cool Halloween vibe that we all like, and his plans seem to work alot better than Bowser's! Who knows if he'll ever redeem himself, probably not! Soon you should get on with the Super Mario Characters Good to Evil since you finished off with this!👑👻💜❤💚🍄

Just 'cause he's snappy at times doesn't mean he "yells at his minions for the simplest mistakes". And he treats them like idiots WHEN they do something idiotic which again is a product of his temper, not his personality. To be Fair Waluigi is only doing what he does cause NO BODY ever congratulates him or encourages him for anything. He actually looks up to Mario and Luigi as role models. he WANTS to be a hero but people mocking him and hating him makes being a hero hard. So he will go to extremes to get what he wants. BUT in Mario golf World Tour, he actually is shown to have a more friendly side. And he also praises himself cause no one else well. He likes Daisy, but Daisy hates him. And even further... Wario said he is getting tired of Waluigi...
If I remember correctly, Mario and Luigi are the cousins of Wario and Waluigi. Daisy is Luigi's gal and has disdain for Wario and Waluigi's greedy ways. I think Wario and Waluigi mean well they are just a bit misguided and misunderstood.
In Wario Land 3, Wario is legit a hero despite doing it out of greed.

Your list was mostly good, and I’m only saying mostly because there is just one big flaw that I’ve noticed early on. You placed Count Bleck and King Olly way too low. Yeah, I know they redeeemed themselves but they were committing world domination and genocide. And yet there were other redeemed villains and much less serious threats like Wario and Bowser that were much higher apparently.

At this point Bowser comes across as a (generally) good man who is only a villain because he is the king of a rival kingdom and all the political needs that comes with.
I always felt bad for him in that he didn't have a female version of his species to become his queen. I always thought if he had a Koopa queen, he would eventually leave Peach alone.

It may just be me, but I feel like most people that attempt to explain Count Bleck's backstory either in a Top 10 list or in a Morality Ranking video like this, they get so many facts wrong.

After seeing this vid, I just thought up the concept on what could potentially be the most amazing Super Mario game possibly ever: a complete crossover of perhaps all Mario games mainly so all the villains on this list (and more) could be released to the world and team up solely because of 1 shared objective: getting revenge on Mario and the other protagonists. maybe the ones responsible for this supposed chaos could be the Elite Trio... what do any of you think of this concept?

I would say the Shadow Queen is the most evil. She definitely came across that way and is basically considered an embodiment of pure evil who's sole purpose is to spread darkness and corruption and to cause suffering and subjugation, and she's arguably the greatest, most dangerous, and most powerful threat Mario has faced (excluding the Chaos Heart's power, but that's an artifact). I'd definitely put Dimentio at #2 though, he's a total sociopath who's completely psychotic.
I see your point, but I think what places Dimentio above her is the Shadow Queen only sought conquest of a single world. Dimentio wanted conquest of the multiverse.
My only complaint is that the dark star is at 4, The dark star was a literal embodiment of evil. His whole goal was to plunge the world into darkness and kill all life on it. King Boo was only ever after the Mario bros and later just Luigi. The Dark Star almost killed everyone in the mushroom kingdom. King Boo kidnapped Luigi's friends/family, destroyed a hotel, and plunged a valley and all it's ghosts into chaos.
King boo also nearly killed everyone in the universe just to spite luigi and the dark star being an embodiment of evil is what ranks it lower since it only knows how to be evil

He was traumatized and mentally corrupted. The Dark Prognosticus canonically twists the mind of its reader to hell and back in mere moments upon reading it, and he regularly consulted it. He also wanted to die to Mario, insisting for him to literally _kill_ him when he loses, and clearly holding back the entire fight
