A class act - both the subject and the video. As a West Country boy I have so many memories of the express
trains on the London-Bristol and London-Torbay lines, and many a boyhood evening was spent at my local village
station on the Wiltshire/Somerset border leaning away from the close proximity of the evening down expresses
as they thundered through to Bath...a blur of glowing smoke box and illuminated carriages.
And watching this, I remain so impressed at seeing the speed with which this King's driving wheels spun around
as it pulled all those carriages along. Marvellous stuff. Thank you.

Fantastic video, the best I've seen for Steam, especially the shots in the dusk 12:35 although it was all stunning.
One can clearly see when the fireman is putting coal on the fire by noticing the chimney's behavior.

Phenomenal imagery at 13:15 of the footplate illuminated by the open fire door and the fireman ( barely perceptible) feeding this glorious machine as she roars through the night.

Love how when she is on the level stretches she bowls along as if she were running light engine instead of 11 on.

excellent video of one powerhouse of a locomotive, the GWR were definitely one of the finest companies in the country if not the world.6024 is not just a stunning tribute to the GWR,but also to every person who spent 20 years rebuilding her.Just wait until 6023 comes back to the mainline.

Yeh I would agree entirely, I only wish I could have lived on the western region to watch these magnificent locos, unfortunately for me I had travel from the north of England to see these beautiful engines, we had some great engines on the LMS but nothing compares with a `King`, and to think they were only a 4-6-0 albeit with 4 cyls the power they produced was tremendous

That was pure brilliance. I was at Dawlish on the September working and remember watching her go by. I loved how you filmed her along the sea wall, brilliant. It's great to see how everybody stops to watch her go by. She is having a well deserved major overhaul now at Minehead. Thanks for sharing.

Sorry, but there has never been a main line railway at Shaldon. This is probably the Teign valley approaching Newton Abbott.

So authorative, but so wrong: Shaldon is the opposite side of the Teign estuary from the line, and is clearly where the train is filmed from. (And the Teign Valley line closed in 1958).

I grew up near the Long Island (NY) railroad. I loved every minute of this film. It was interesting in that the sounds of the train didn't always sound the same in every scene. There was one scene where it sounded exactly like the LI trains. Took me back! I was surprised to see people so close in one shot & wondered if they got burned from the steam. I wondered how you were going to end such a great film. You chose a night scene where you could see the coal fire burning. Great close. Nice work!

    • @QuarrySteam
      @QuarrySteam 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

As soon as the steam leaves the cylinders it cools to form water vapour which is the white stuff you see coming out of the chimney, as the droplets are so small they cool to the air temperature almost instantly so do not feel hot when they fall on you. Sometimes though, particularly when the engine is working hard, embers from the fire can get thrown out the chimney which can burn you but generally it tends to be alright. Hope this is of interest.

Top stuff - and even more so if, like me, you are a Paigntonian who had the fun of a
caravan at Waterside, just before the Broadsands Viaduct. Your commitment towards
getting these shots is utterly commendable and I fully agree with the comments about
the zoom lens on your camera and the splendid Dawlish "footage". Great work.

This is excellent and very well taken footage. Good, smooth and consistent panning and I really like the way you follow the train for those extended long-distance shotsm as it steams in to the distance. Steam trains were in full service when I was a boy and I used to look at the steam specials at Victoria station on my way to the office up unitl I retired a few years ago. I rememebr they operated mostly on Thursdays from Victoria station and the exact second I smelled the smoke and steam it transported me instantly back 60 years! What amazing machines! Thank you for a beautifully produced video, I enjoyed it very much and will subscribe to your channel! 👍😁✌😀

Wonderful filming showing what a King was built for, working hard with a full load of 11 on. Not a whisper of steam anywhere, Swindon works would have been proud of the maintenance crew. But, I did notice on every scene, we firemen used to get the steam relief valve just blowing off, That would be maximum in the boiler, I did not see that while the King was working. So I wondered about her steaming qualities.

Great shot at Dawlish, with the waves were breaking over the wall.
You had more luck than me. Three times I was down that way on a Sunday this summer; the first, it was cancelled because supposedly, they thought that everyone would be staying home to watch the World Cup final, then 71000 failed and it was a 67, and then it was 60163, but i didn't know it was running that day! :-(

Many nice locations there to put a RPG into the side of this garbage! Some .50 caliber rounds from a Barrett XM107 would do a grand job of delivering fatal rounds into the boiler case!
Junk all the remaining steam locomotives! Cut them apart & melt them down!
The Yatton trackway at night is a great place to put some "unexpected" derailing equipment! Great way to deliver this trash to the scrap yard where it belonged 65 years ago!
