Never read them, but given your description I'd give it a chance. The main problem is that DC needs to make sure the writers in charge aren't dumb activists. All it takes is one bad writer to fumble this for DC.
The whole point is that anyone can be under the mask, no matter the race, the matter of the person, are capable of seeing themselves under it. And it’s not like all of them are Spider-Man, some of them are spider pigs, Some of them are T-Rexes, some of them are monkeys, some are cats. Spider-Man is just a title, Peter Parker is Peter Parker, miles is miles, etc.
