@@shaulov10 my personal belief; mephiles was already in his own form of white space, since the timeline where he existed was erased, it left a space without time, a space where time eater could pull him out of And when the time eater is defeated, everything in white space is restored, which means mephiles might come back. Especially since the time eater tried extra hard to lock him away and we undid that So the future where mephiles is stuck in the scepter may have been restored It doesn’t help that RIGHT before this fight, if you talk to Gerald, he says “Whatever has been, whatever may be, must remain in tact” We might be looking at an 06 remake if we get a year of Silver, and it’d be happening post-frontiers
I like how Shadow basically tells us that “Yeah. Hope you enjoyed that little cameo. Because thats all you’ll ever see of him again. We’re not doing anything with him again.” Also “There is no future for you, EVER!” Is a fucking cold ass one liner
@@haiderraad468 and if you think about it… technically mephiles got what he wanted. Hes now part of the timeline… in a sense. K-kind of… he escaped limbo for like 5 minutes. Yay?
@@susiehaltmann3342 tbf, how can you bring Mephiles back since he got erased from the timeline? Unless SEGA wants to pull a Kamen Rider Den-O and have him revived as an Imagin, I doubt we'll ever see him again.
Maybe Time eater is the only one who remember him bc of he's power. or there's possible of that time eater is Unsealed Mephiles out of Solaris Bc only thing that they turn off was light of Solaris. Since Solaris was "Light of Hope",and Mephiles is "Darkness" When he was first found by eggman he was Almost Look like Mephiles's Dark Fog form And Time eater is Alternative version of Mephiles,he have familiar ability of Mephiles or Solaris. he use ability look like Sun.
@@JennyBlaze253a way I can think of is similar to 06 where the scepter is released into the main universe and someone (like eggman) accidentally releases him(and if they want to do this they can make it so when mepiles is released everyone who was in 06 will get their memories back of the events)
@@nicholassgobero what the humans did wasnt justified either, elise straight up says what her dad did wasa a sin, furthermore nobody said what mephiles did was justified. But u can still feel bad for him considering the humans used solaris just for his powers, shadow confirmed mephiles dont care about that but idk what u expect from a amoral god like solaris
Mephiles' story is even more tragic now that he's reappeared-and you can see how desperate he is. His original goal wasn’t just to destroy everything; it was revenge against the humans who experimented on Solaris, who basically was him. But after everyone responsible for his suffering was gone, all that remained were the corrupted parts of Solaris that craved destruction with no real purpose. It’s heartbreaking to see how he’s trapped in this endless cycle, losing any sense of himself in the process. His return to the new game feels like a last-ditch effort to escape that cycle and reclaim some control over his fate. He started out wanting revenge, but now he's just trapped, desperate, and broken. Poor Solaris, endlessly suffering and seeking a way out.
Shadow Gens definitely made me appreciate Mephiles way more than I thought, the way Shadow doesn’t even remember bro yet still beats him up regardless is pretty funny to me
He may not remember him fully but his feelings are there i think it was confirmed that they dont know what happened in 06 but they remember that something happened so the character development is kinda there which means Shadow must have felt alarmed when he saw Mephiles even though he dont know why
@@ceylancobalt3117 Nah, he's only ruthless to his enemies. In the Dark Beginnings prologue, he spares the GUN mecha pilot from explosion, because he doesn't view them as an enemy, just as an obstacle to his goal.
Time Eater is Mephiles, but essentially mindless. There's a reason a miniature sun happens to conveniently accompany Time Eater throughout the fight. Time Eater is a primordial essence of Solaris's being, i.e. a fallen SUN God.
One thing I like to note is that Mephiles wasn’t even playing around with Shadow this time. He knows he can't merge with Iblis anymore and is aware that his existence was erased from the main timeline. So, the only way he can restore himself is to either escape from Shadow or defeat him. That’s why he sneaks up from behind, trying to end things quickly with the same move he used to kill Sonic but it ultimately fails due to shadow grown stronger. By the end of the fight (this part is headcanon), I think it’s a nice touch that while Shadow doesn’t remember Mephiles at first, by the time he defeats him and says, 'There is no future for you, ever,' it suggests he remembers who Mephiles really is.
I say it's more so, "I have no idea who you are, but I know that you are very bad news if you're set free, so I have to end you right here before you get the chance."
Ian Flynn confirmed a while ago that Blaze does still have Iblis inside her soul after the end of Silver’s story in 06. So if Mephiles did find a way to return to the timeline…. Oh boy. I think that could be a really cool story to cover. It would be the perfect chance to give Blaze a power-up via Iblis’ power, and they would have to make sure they cannot fuse at all costs
@@shaulov10 She's from another dimension where pieces of Solaris remain. Solaris was only erased in Dimension A, i.e. the one pertaining to 06's timeline, but it's pieces in others. Hence the point of it being an inter-dimensional lifeform.
@@shaulov10 I don’t know the exact details, but if you remember in 06, Blaze was the only character who didn’t show up during The End Of The World (aside from sonic cuz he’s dead). So maybe when Blaze went back to her own dimension after absorbing Iblis, she was somewhat exempt from Solaris’ Erasure. After all, she does say in Sonic Gen’s “I never thought I’d see myself in Crisis City again”. So she does have some memory of the events of 06
I have long thought that a Frontiers 2 should focus on Sonic’s rivals the way Frontiers was about his friends. The idea of a playable Blaze with unlockable Iblis powers is so damn cool
You can really feel his desperation. Back then he was an immortal being who could exist anywhere in time, bidding his time and just waiting for the perfect moment to accomplish his goal of reuniting with Iblis. But here, Mephiles no longer has the luxary of waiting for the perfect moment, this is his one and only shot at returning to existance, it was now or never.
Shadow doesn't even remember Mephiles or anything he did, and yet he sealed him away and said that there's no place for him in the future. Weirdly sadistic to me.
@shaulov10 I find it poetic to how the Sonic Twitter account used to constantly make fun of 06 and how most of the fanbase gets annoyed when game critics make fun of it. And when Chaos X made P-06,many Sonic fans compared it to polishing a turd, saying that 06 was doomed to fail and can never be good,I haven't played P-06 but I think it looks cool.
The first thing Mephiles did when meeting Shadow again was trying to murder him. I think after this sealing him away and denying him any future is perfectly reasonable.
@@shaulov10the only way Mephilis could come back is if ANOTHER Space Time Rift opened up due to Eggman trying to learn how to Time Travel again but instead of jumping back in time of the current timeline he jumps to a Parallel Timeline before the events of 06
Something I love about the fights in Shadow Generations is that every one of them feels meaningful on some level: Biolizard showcased Shadow compassion, as even though he would have to destroy the monster in self-defense anyway, Shadow makes it clear during the fight that he recognizes that the creature is suffering in pain and without any free will. Putting it down is a mercy in Shadow’s eyes. Metal Overlord is a battle between two Sonic “imposters” and just like in Metal Overlord’s original fight in Sonic Heroes you get a decent look into the robot’s mental state. During the fight, he consistently refers to shadow as a fake hedgehog and an imposter, which is quite ironic coming from a robot duplicate of Sonic. You can interpret this as Metal being in denial of what he is, maybe he really is just that delusional, or perhaps he is simply projecting? Regardless it’s interesting to see how a fake Sonic reacts to someone he perceives to be another fake Sonic. Mephiles starts his fight sounding insanely confident, but as the battle goes on, you can see how desperate he has become. He once fought for the sole purpose of destroying everything, but now he fights just for a chance to exist. Yet at this point, he is no match for Shadow. His time has come and gone. This sun god has truly fallen from Grace in the most spectacular way possible. (Neo) Devil Doom is a great climax to the pairs growing tension throughout the game. Black Doom is ecstatic that he has gotten everything he wanted: Shadow has been perfected and Doom believes that during the fight shadow will give into his nature allowing Black Doom to be reborn in the body and mind of the Perfected Ultimate Lifeform. But ultimately Shadow rejects any connection to Black Doom and puts down the monster once and for all. The boss fights some thing I think this game has over Sonic Generations. as fun as the fights in sonics campaign is very few of them feel schematically relevant in anyway. They are all from a gameplay perspective, but that’s it. Shadow Generations manages to have the fights be entertaining while giving a sense of purpose to them. Maybe shadow generations has the advantage because there are less fights in the game, but I think it is still not worthy.
I have to disagree about Metal Overlord. It's an AI, it has no "mental state." It was just copying data from everybody in Sonic Heroes, including Sonic himself; when it copied his abilities it also copied how Sonic felt about Shadow being a "fake hedgehog," that's why Metal says that exactly as it was. The only similarity Metal and Shadow share is them being artificial lifeforms, but the key difference is that Metal has no free will while Shadow does.
@@ZipZapTeslaHe used to have a mental state back in Heroes. His hatred for Sonic came from the times he lost to him. But then Eggman changed it so that Metal would serve Eggman in Neo form and his hatred and goals were because of Eggman's programming in IDW
Remember that Eggman was piloting the Time Eater and wasnt afraid of Infinite's power. If Eggman made the conscious descision to hide Mephiles WHILE USING THE TIME EATERS POWER, that says a lot. This could've been Black Doom also hiding him but thats still just as terrifying.
I mean, Mephiles was the only one of these three to be a definitive threat against Ivo, Infinite was his grunt for a bit and Time Eater was his creation, Mephiles was really just against everything
Keep in mind. No one remembers the events of 06, not even Eggman, and yet he STILL chose to hide him. Almost as if he realized how dangerous he was. And keep in mind, this is the same man that scanned the time eater, realized how powerful it was, ran STRAIGHT into it without knowing if it would kill him, somehow convinced it to work with him.. *_and somehow gave it upgrades strong enough to take on two superforms_*
Mephiles being written out of time, having a chance to come back is very ominous. The shift in their perspectives from how it was in 06 is a nice touch. This is Mephiles last chance, and fails again. A nice touch is that you can talk to Gerald about this fight. I would have loved to see him face Silver as well. The hedgehog is less easy to manipulate, has more friends and opened views. I kind of like Mephiles more of a rival for Silver since he was the one who first set him on his time travel path. Nothing wrong with Robbie Daymond’s performance, it was really good, but I think Keith Silverstein would have been PERFECT for Mephiles. Using his Hawkmoth voice just gives me chills. And he’s already in the games as Vector, so no big scouting.
whoever hid him just took one look at him and said "oh this is a ACTUAL threat. nah not messing with this thing" and put him in the basement, and it was still strong enough to bring his part of the blank space to color from the inside
Was he "hidden" or is he "hiding"? I don't think he was intentionally put there by either Doom or Eggman, i think he might have crept in himself, hiding deep below White Space(which is where things erased from time go). I think _he_ might have been the one doing the hiding. Getting any kind of revenge on Shadow is secondary to escaping this place and returning to the timeline, afterall.
@jackmoseley4959 Well... one and an entity _on par_ with one, but yes. Though of course "but the one at that time solos the three from 06" cuz "Sonic gets stronger every second and negs old super form enemies in base"
Dark Gaia is non sentient, Mephiles is. I doubt Eggman was afraid of him, he had the one entity on his side that could one shot Mephiles, Solaris is the only real threat to the Time Eater due to being pandimensional I.E Beyond the Dimension of Time, but Mephiles cannot become Solaris. I think it was more of a case of Black Doom.
A cool little detail about this fight. If you choose to mash the attack button instead of preforming the Doom Smash twice. Mephiles will counter it and mock Shadow for it. And for extra style points, you can counter his counter attack with Doom Sphere.
I played the game without control hints, so that was my first experience with Mephelis. I'm so glad that this was the first sonic game I played without control hints.
Mephilies: if you'd just let me be the main antagonist in another game... Shadow: No can do, Sega already scheduled the deadly six for the next 3 games Mephilies: *Demonic shrieks of agony*
Mephiles: I will Defeat you Shadow, and restore myself to the timeline!!! Shadow: Who are you and how do you know my name is shadow and what are you TALKING about? Mephiles: Well Let’s just say that it’s a LONG Story that NEVER happened!!!
I don't think the Time Eater put Mephiles in the boss room. I think he just ended up there prior and the Time Eater just built around it. This is mainly due to his room being colored apposed to every other one being pure white. As you point out, man was erased from the time line. This happened prior to the Time Eater doing anything. Mephiles *lives* here.
You know, what makes me sad about Mephiles is that he used to be a part of Solaris, the Sun God of their universe... An entity PRAISED and RESPECTED by the citizens of Soleanna once upon a time, so much so that they dedicated a whole festival to his existence, much like ancient cultures in our world celebrated their gods... and from what I gather, Solaris even chose to trust them with the power Elise's father would eventually go on to try and exploit, breaking Solaris in the process... What happens right after the incident? Sealed, by Shadow. What happens after being freed? Forgotten, by Shadow. What about the people of Soleanna? They did nothing to help him, now celebrating for a god they murdered themselves... Maybe Mephiles IS pure evil for no reason, and I'm looking too deep into it, but considering EVERYTHING he's been through... I seriously can't blame him for wanting to end it all.
THAT'S EXACTLY to be honest, this is just my headcanon, but..as for me, BEFORE Solaris was wanted to BE USED, Solaris was a good deity who contributed his flame for the prosperity of Solariana. And of course a good being would get angry if they tried to use him for some shady topic And after that, he was not just disfigured (smashed into two components that NEVER should have been broken), but literally ERASED from existence when he was in his WEAKEST form of a candle flame I perfectly understand how the pride and kindness of gods can easily be shattered by human greed or the desire to achieve something forbidden and I am not surprised by the rage of Iblis and the hatred of Mephilis And now they both exist NOWHERE, and only Mephilist sadly understands his fate and is truly going crazy. He is literally GLAD to see Shadow at the beginning of the fight, after which he gets angry that he was really forgotten and then he almost prays to the heavens for him to be given the right to live.
Even though he lost this battle I think there is still a chance that mephiles will come back at some point. Sega knows fans want Mephiles back as the main villain and this is clearly a test of whether that would work. All boss battles in both Sonic and Shadow generations except the Time Eater and Black Doom are basically recordings but Mephiles is clearly aware during the boss fight, there is just as much effort in this boss fight as the final boss
I mean, all the writers would have to do, is begin the a story with Eggman meddling with a power he can’t control. He goes out to space, after he and Sage learns of a tear in reality, learns it’s connected to the no destroyed Time Eater. Eggy gets closer and rips the tear further to look inside, against Sage’s warnings. And just like in Frontiers, Eggman ends up dead, injured, or trapped by Mephiles. Maybe he traps Sage somewhere so she can’t leak his return to Sonic, Shadow or the others. And he creates a grand plan to return himself to his original power, like starting a new Dark Age on Earth, or reawakening Dark Gaia so he could destroy everything. Maybe we play as Sage, Metal, and others after playing Sonic and Shadow’s stories. I would like to see Mephiles come back, and remind Shadow of the torment he’d put him through. Mephiles was one of the few characters that actually killed Sonic and was a match for Shadow.
@@garrettviewegh9028Actually, with that plot, They could even Bring Chip (Light Gaia) Back, or potentially even give us a Mephiles corrupted version of Metal Sonic!
Nakamura did mention how he wanted 06 to get the remake treatment. Something which I would be in favor for. Though I would love to see Secret Rings and Black Knight get the remake treatment too, though they would need to remake the engine to make it more compatible with current consoles.
@kappadarwin9476 And they revealed that there will be a Sonic Movie 4, even if it's a character like Metal Sonic, I don't think they'll ever stop making movies, so probably a Silver movie at some point, and I'm pretty sure they'll going to use events from 06 and not from rivals so mephiles will probably be there, and just like sonic x shadow generations is marketing for Sonic movie 3 is a 06 remake perfect for a Silver movie
I've been obsessed with this fight since I first saw it. The villain fighting with everything he has, fighting for his very existence, while the hero is calm and unconcerned is such a cool dynamic.
Unlike any of the other bosses in either generations, mephilis is just trapped, not destroyed. Him wanting to exist, acting so desperate and terrified, and NOT being destroyed feels suspicious. Especially with the statement: ‘there is no future for you. Ever’ feels too much like foreshadowing
But when Shadow defeats Black Doom (or even Sonic defeating Time Eater) all the places are erased and everything backs to normal. Mephiles just got erased. Again
@@PauloH100 no because at the end of the game (I've only played sonics story) it's clear they all remember generations happening meaning shadow must remember everything in this game too.
@@PauloH100I don't know, Mephiles is one of those characters to where as long a remnant of him exists [in this example being shadows memory of him due to the fight.] He'll find a way to come back.
It’s fun how shadow still trounces mephiles. Effortlessly dodges the shot that killed sonic and wipes out his clones while still wearing his inhibitors
The thing to that adds to his desperation, he doesn't have any Emeralds here. In 06 with just 2 he was able to push Shadow to the point he had to remove his inhibitor rings.
The mere fact that SEGA brought back Mephiles' overall existence with such respect hypes up all the possibilities 06 storyline and derivates somehow has. - Sonic possibly remembers 06 events, although never truly met Mephiles. - With the fall of 06 events, Silver's lore and relevance still remains abandoned. - Even so, Silver became friend of Espio for Sonic Rivals, so there's that. - Nevertheless, Silver and Blaze have some sort of mutual connection they can't even explain. - As someone explained in another comment (and even I didn't know), it seems that a part of Iblis has survived the time reset within Blaze. - Not only that, but she remembers Crisis City: A level that could only be the result of 06 doings and it's very similar to another environment. - Returning Mephiles is optional; 06 events can also be resembled towards Chaotic Inferno Zone (same situation, different culprit). - And if that's not enough, as of today's canon, Eggman Nega, Blaze's main villain, is trapped in Chaotic Inferno Zone, thanks to Silver and Espio. - Let's not forget that Eggman Nega is a space-time traveler, as direct descendant of Eggman himself. It's like opening a pandora's box of unused potential.
I could see a dark future storyline where Mephiles discovered Nega, possesses him, and kills Eggman in the future. Pins it on Shadow and Sonic, and a now evil, older Sage from the future, a teen at this point, pulls a SHODAN/Skynet, and ulon Nega’s suggestion, uses super weapons to turn the Earth into a wasteland. Any organic life left, is corrupted and turned into Zombot soldiers by Sage. Whom uses cyber corruption, and the metal virus, to build an army and new empire that quickly destroys the remnants of GUN, and most of Sonic’s friends. Silver and Blaze are forced to flee to the present to warn Sonic and Shadow. Future Sage and Nega take chase. As the final pieces fall into place, Mephiles reveals himself, kicks Nega into a worm hole, and murders Sonic and Shadow. The dark hedgehog quakes in fear and anger as he’d left powerless by Mephilis. As he forces the hedgehog to fight and die to him. Leaving Silver, Blaze, Sage, Eggman, and the others, to stop Mephiles and Future Sage from destroying the present and past.
I've been thinking, maybe Sega is trying to see how the public reacts to 06-ralated content nowdays, i personally could see them doing a full reboot of the original game, with Blaze replacing Elise's role on an entirely new setting, but still similar to how it went out on 06, where Mephiles somehow gets restored to the timeline by someone and wants to kill Blaze to recover the part of Iblis that lives inside her and get revenge on Shadow and Sonic for everything, while also trying to correct his wrongs from the first time around as to not fail again. Also i lowkey feel like Silver and Blaze both really need a major role on a modern game, they're both kinda just "there" lately... and something like that could be their chance to shine again, and we also could get some more lore on them both which imo we desperately need, especially for Silver.
I think probably the most interesting element of Mephiles in this game for me is that the Biolizard and Metal Overlord seem to exist in the moment that they're from. Metal Overlord even referring to Shadow as fake hedgehog as in Sonic Heroes its believed Shadow is a Eggman robot until the next game where they confirm he's the real one. But not Mephiles - no, in an even more painful twist it seems he actually has been aware every since he ceased to exist and has been growing increasingly desperate since. It really emphasizes how big of a threat he is and I love how it was handled. There's also other details like - Shadow needing to remove his limiter rings originally to defeat Mephiles and no longer needing to (well Prof Gerald if you talk to him will state Shadow has gotten so strong he might explode at this point if he took them off) all the little details - its just so good.
I feel that may have been referring to the Doom powers in him as well. But, it’s Mephilis, given time, he’d have found a way to best Shadow. But here and now? Little chance.
I didn’t play Sonic 06 but I know what happens in the game. So when I got to the mephiles boss fight there was something different about it than all the other fights in the game so far, and then when Mephiles said “I want to EXIST” that moment stood out to me weirdly enough.
Mephiles was formed from the most evil parts of the sun god Solaris, he was the most evil being in all of the Sonic mainline game timeline. His sole motivation was to reunite with the other half of the sun god, Iblis to become the sun god Solaris and destroy time itself. Sonic, Shadow and Silver use the chaos emeralds to become super and beat Solaris, Elise blows out the flame of hope which meant Sonic and Elise wouldn't remember what happened at all and Iblis and Mephiles would be wiped from existence which would mean the sun god Solaris would also cease to exist. Mephiles going from a confident, manipulative killer, to a desperate, out of his league fool is what I love about the boss fight. Mephiles went from trying to manipulate Shadow and recruit him in 06 to becoming clumsy due to desperation to exist in Shadow Gens. Heck Mephiles even took Shadow's form.
Great video just one complaint. The reason mephiles' threats had an impact on shadow was because of his future, Shadow knew that in the near future he would have been hunted down and captured by humanity for the destruction that was gonna happen, mephiles used that to try and get to shadow which didn't work because shadow already knew who he was and what he stood for (thanks to the ending of shadow the hedgehog) the reason the threats had little to no effect is because the current shadow doesn't know what happened to the other one in the old timeline and even if he did it still wouldn't affect him because it's a removed future that will never happen
hope this open the doors for a possible return of mephiles as a main villain for a new game, like they don't even need to mention sonic 06 at all just bring him back with a new story and people will love it
Agreed. It’d be easy too: Eggman messes with something far above his control, ignores Surge’s warnings not to get close to the tear in reality, and he releases Mephiles. Whom murders Sonic and Shadow later. Until Silver and Blaze undo it.
@@Regibump37 He would've been a phantom copy created by Infinite that Eggman used off screen or something I don't even think he would've appeared according to the early script.
Mephiles was honestly a scary and intimidating villain. Him and Silver were completely destroyed by the game they debuted in. It's truly unfortunate. I'm glad Silver became a better character in the series later.
To be fair they both existed in the world just fine, until an old man got so demented he thought hooking up his God to a particular accelerator was a good idea.
1:47 I mean he succeeded in killing Sonic, became a fourth dimensional god that existed in the past, present and future. Something we haven’t seen the Time Eater do before.
If Mephiles was sealed away, either by Black Doom or the Time Eater, it means that they KNEW how dangerous he is. With the Time Eater it could be because it's technically a god, although if Eggman was controlling it, there would have to be another explanation, maybe the Time Eater was trying really hard to keep Mephiles sealed away so the Eggmen went along with it. For Black Doom, I don't know, so he probably wasn't the one who did that. The Time Eater seems the most likely.
If Mephiles did come back it would be interesting what could be done with him. Because it would be interesting to have this nigh-immortal, time traveling being who, while an antagonistic force, is just happy to *exist* again. I can imagine a characterisation similar to Happy Chaos from Guilty Gear, just a bit more sinister.
@@bucketbutters866It would also be great way to bring Elise back since she’s the one who erased him from the timeline to begin with and she would probably be at the top of his list aside from Shadow. Add on to that if Mephiles were to return to the timeline he’d have to deal with the fact that he can never become Solaris again since Iblis no longer exists.
@BlackClaw2 what could also be interesting is that since blaze absorbed iblis (I think?) and wasn't there when the timelines collapsed and everyone went to look for the emeralds, perhaps iblis is still inside blaze so when he somehow finds out about that he'll be gunning for her to release him and become the sun god once more
@@bucketbutters866Maybe. But, I feel he wouldn’t be as easy to beat then. He’d have learned from the last time. And Mephiles would probably have a plan to counter Super Shadow, Sonic, Silver, and the rest.
This really just proves how powerful mephlies is, he was able to exist after a time re write, be aware of everything a the time eater, something that doesn't seem to have a personality, keeping it locked away is so interesting, also what I like is the layout of the chamber, it would be un accessible to most of the characters, it seems that mephlies was never meant to be found
Well the time eater wasn’t evil of it’s own volition all of the destruction and mayhem possibly even the negative space and time draining effects were done by Eggman taking control of it yes Eggman calls it a time eater and says it could erase time and space but he could of not fully grasped it’s abilities he’s brilliant but not all knowing and time eater doesn’t really attack him from what the possibly biased flashback(though I don’t eggman would include himself leaving orbot and cubot) for all we know it could have been a benevolent cosmic force of the universe gaurding over the time stream and keeping paradox and anomalies locked up but was corrupted by eggman taking control of it
well from sonic colors we know eggman was sent to the edge of the universe so who knows what else was out there, and if we want to use ian flynn og idea for the time eater then this gets more interesting (during archie days, ian said that he belived the time eater was a piece of solaris that broke off when it was defeated) though until we get a solid answer we do not know what was keeping mephlies trapped there
I never thought about mephiles being locked in a secluded area, but it's an absolutely brilliant point, as it also signifies how he's been forgotten, with how he's been pushed to the back, being the hardest boss of the first 3 to reach, like a forgotten memory. All of his voice lines are amazing, it's so cool having a boss have real stakes for the boss itself, the battle is incredibly fun, the music is top notch. Easily up with Wyvern and Metal Overlord (Generations) as my favourite fights in the series
I think the time eater wasn't the one that put him in such a hidden spot, I like to believe that the time that you seeing is all in shadow view which is why in sonic view we just see the classic stages sonic knows and remember. I like to think that the reason Mephiles is hidden is cause in shadow mind he truly was erased from the timeline but it still lingers somewhere in shadow mind
One thing I would've loved to see is solaris, imagine if sega had more time to work on them game and worked on having a secret final boss that clashes with the time eater it makes sense that this could happen since solaris is also a God that has existed before time itself imagine if because of the time eater solaris returned and destroyed everything leaving it up to sonic shadow and potentially even other super characters like silver knuckles or evening burning blaze to stop him, I really love mephiles because you can't really understand him because of the pure complexity of his being but that's what makes him so interesting and menacing
It's sus that both Time Eater and Phantom Ruby not only have an unknown origin, but specifically utilized a sun. Time Eater uses Sun Burst as a final attack and the Phantom Ruby possessing Infinite seems to allure him into lowering a sun onto the world... Solaris being a Sun God its remains scattered between other dimensions would likely want to remind those of its existence in some way, what better way to do that than a sun. There's also the fact that Infinite in his official music video's yellow eye turns a glowing green and the fact that he the Phantom Ruby makes him levitate exactly the same as Mephiles does. Forces was also the time when Mephiles started randomly getting official merch from SEGA, so make of that which you will. In Sonic Forces Speed Battle he was added as Oni Mephiles (Oni being Japanese for Demon), where his and Infinite's aura schemes are flipped. Warlock Infinite having Mephiles's purple aura and Oni Mephiles Infinite's usual red aura. In Sonic Forces the Phantom Ruby vanishes The Jackal to some unknown place.
@@zocialixi think the Phantom Ruby might be connected to Black Doom, because the powers and visual effects he has in Shadow Gens feels very Ruby-esque
I don’t know because the reason that mephiles is even here is because the time eater can access every timeline. I’m not sure the time stones are that powerful
Omg i love Mephiles Literally the best and my favorite villain ever. *The shadow of a Shadow,* a dark and twisted force that wants nothing but destruction for the universe. This whispy and light blue aura that he possesses makes him feel almost demonic, and his cleverness in 06 makes him feel unstoppable, laughing when Sonic falls and cackling when Ibilis is released gives him such an edge. That design too? Black, blue, and purple, all deep and dark colors fitting for Mephiles’ personality and overall concept. And you can’t deny that crystal-covered look is fucking awesome. Even in desperation, giving his all to no avail, he still feels horrifying… he still gives me goose bumps hearing him talk, just looking into his eyes makes me feel unnerved. Him let alone killing Sonic with a swift beam attack is enough to send shivers down my spine, that feat alone shows how much of a unstoppable force Mephiles is. Hell even Time eater knows how big of a bitch Mephiles is he used four boss keys to lock him up as you said. In my opinion, he is the best Sonic villain to have been created, and it’s a shame that he’s non-cannon, but also kinda cool he isn’t cause it ties into his lore a bit and adds an extra edge to his character. Truly God-tier villain.
For the build up section I want to point out also that the goop mephiles used throughout the fight is the same one that is spread through out White Space and a bit in Chaos island. To me this indicates that Mephiles even while locked up was slowly restoring himself to the timeline. Having almost as much control over the white space as black doom had. The final thing he had to do was either beat Sonic or Shadow and his place would be restored
I think the voice acting really sells him like that. I mean, not only is played by someone who had roles that were in the villain department that also had sympathetic backgrounds but ended up doing great wrongs, but also, the rage build in the delivery of the lines is almost chilling, like, he is not playing games, he is doing what he knows how to do, and it's not working, and that is driving him mad, because he knows what he stands to lose. The fact that even if you don't know a thing about sonic 06 and yet you can understand the character just by what he says in that boss fight is great. Storytelling done right through and through.
4:57 "No one will know who Infinite is" Ahh yes my favourite Sonic 06 villain, Infinite the Jackal. EDIT: There's another one XD 6:33 "And Shadow just says nothing t- CHAOS REACH"
Infinite was basically possessed by the devil, i.e. Phantom Ruby. There's a quite a few hints towards that idea. He's meant to be pathetic cause the true evil is the Phantom Ruby and its dark unknown origin. The Jackal is merely a host. By the time the Jackal's uses had expired the Phantom Ruby vanished him from existence to a unknown dimension.
@@zocialix The ruby is probably Infinite’s black doom, except it truly trusts him and Eggman far more than anyone else. It only took Infjnite because infinite was literally falling apart (LOOK AT HIM) and it would’ve been a total waste of his potential to die for a petty fight. It didn’t help that Eggman senpai already had a stronger and fresher vessel that wouldn’t put Infinite at any more unnecessary risks.
@@justice8718 There's pointers that Phantom Ruby came from Mephiles, hence why in Infinite's official theme video his eye turns to a glowing green at 0:50 implying possession. (Mephiles's eyes in his crystal form are also a glowing green) There's also how Infinite is allured to tossing a sun onto the world just as Time Eater attempted to do the same in Sonic Generations. Remains of Solaris scattered between dimensions making itself known via the sun. There's also the fact that round about Sonic Forces was when Mephiles began randomly getting official merchandise. (Plushies, skateboards among other things) Considering the Phantom Ruby went after Classic Sonic first there's reason to believe that it's tied to the same primordial origin that Time Eater was. Especially considering both origin of Time Eater and Phantom Ruby are unknown. As well as how with Sonic Forces Speed Battle Infinite and Mephiles's auras are switched from purple to red, which I don't think is coincidence. Infinite even shares Mephiles's levitational pose even outside of Sonic Forces Speed Battle. In fact it's practically mirrored even. Mephiles was added to Sonic Forces Speed Battle as: 'Oni Mephiles', i.e. Demon Mephiles. Also Sonic series tends to pull a lot from Christian Biblical Mythology and a Jackal is essentially a sign of the devil's influence, which would further play into the theory that Infinite was possessed. Sonic Forces takes place after Sonic Generations and by this time Mephiles must've somehow made progress with his escape.
@ I think the ancients created the Phantom Ruby under the influence of Mephiles. Thus, the five base stages of Shadow Generations focus upon five different beings. The biolizard (Ark), Metal Sonic (Canyon), Mephiles (the water temple), Infinite (Sunset Heights), and the Ruby (Chaos Island). It’s because of Shadow’s influence, Infinite and the Ruby exist as a symbiotic pairing. Zero and the jackals were created merely because Eggman sought to make his own ultimate lifeform, making them purposely rogue experiments made from the final judgement lab, all with a fake life of memories to give them the drive to be the ultimate warriors. Shadow had his name from his experiment title. Infinite had his name from a serial number by being a mere prototype, Zero. Pretty much, because of Shadow, Eggman and Mephiles created their own messed up children that bonded in the darkness.
Great video. Mephiles is easily one of the best parts of Shadow Gens. It was great to see him return and how he was handled. The boss fight gave me chills and I didn’t even grow up with 06
I dont necesarily think that the time eater just wants to hide mephilis away out of fear of his power (though it definetly could be a part of it) I feel more like this is a forgotten part of it all. The other bosses are these big enemies that often coincided wirh big character moments and they are ever present in the history. Mephilis however is this out of place thing, it was a big part of shadows story but it kinda doesnt exist anymore. Unlike these hughe milestones to look back on, this is a forgotten evil
I believe Eggman said how time will fit to his will (through the Time Eater). Maybe he had plans to use Mephiles but sealed him away until he could figure out how 🤔
I like to think at the very end of the fight there's a very small part of Shadow that remembers Mephiles, like Shadow's own sense of deja vu is telling him "You hate this guy." so he instinctively throws out that final line just to rub salt in the wound.
I think it's more desperation and agitation at not having nearly even a sliver of the control he once had. Mephiles can't think or act rationally as it's his one and only lone chance to, as he says, exist, if he kills or hargains with Shadow here in this moment, while he could play the long game in 06 just fine. Shadow needed to remove his limiters to defeat this Mephiles in 06 and didn't manage to permanently put him down either, but in Gens he effortlessly defeats and re-seals Mephiles without even bothering with saud limiter rings, as he's just grown that much stronger, and the doom powers help too in that.
classic elder scrolls dungeon design to allude to Mephiles bruhhhhhh!!! This is what classic gaming was about, Mephiles being someone you have to find through exploration (in a reasonably expansive hub world) really does feel like something akin to thinking Mew is underneath a truck.
There's a few things that get me excited about this. 1. Now that Shadow has fought him and still remembers him in a sense he does in fact still exist 2. Mephilies remembers 06 so it's less it never happened and more it happened but everyone forgot or it was separated into it's own timeline 3. Mephilies is the villain I'd love to see officially return without the erase the timeline plot and more just actually being stopped. 4. I'm positive the time eater is a form of mephilies that eggman gained control over.
4, that's Similar to my interpretation, Solaris was erased but it's constituent components weren't, I believe The Space The final Boss battle took place in (the end of time( in sonic o6) to be what spawned the time eater, specifically I think this space is like a Scar in time and space and given time to fester without being repaired by the only thing that could repair it (aka the now Dead and removed from the universe time god) leading to Eggman finding him. Mephilis himself ends up stuck outside of time Aware and Cognizant but trapped in a void. Iblis, Fragmented into the Sol Emeralds/Blaze, power was likely used unintentionally to create a seperate Universe, evading the wipe through being partially contained (also wouldn't surprise me if they later canonize ifrit from the rivals games as a fragment of Iblis) Ultimately Solaris itself Left a Scar, Iblis was fragmented and created a separate world outside the timeline that was being erased, and Mephilis ends up alone in Nothingness. And then theirs the end which we might just solo all 3 of them even if they existed seperatly Simultaneously (Also I personally believe the phantom Ruby is actually created by the end(red purple colour scheme)
Maybe not mentally but it could probably be from muscle memory. Like his body is familiar with his strategies and moves and knows how to counter them despite shadows lack of memory of mephiles.
I'd like to think it's just his general insult to a bad guy Mephiles is casually talking about time, original timelines and stuff which is why Shadow said that
A thought I had: the reason as to why Mephiles' boss gate area is already colored in instead of being completely white is because, unlike all the Whitespace areas, it didn't have to be restored. '06 was removed from the timeline, and initially I thought that it was just because of that (already gone = no need for restoration), but Kingdom Valley kinda throws a wrench in that, so here's my theory: Kingdom Valley is basically just an exact environment brought over from '06, but Mephiles' basement area, while similar in artstyle to a couple areas in '06, doesn't quite match any of said areas exactly. What I think is that Whitespace already existed before the Time Eater brought any of the cast there, and it's where Mephiles has been this whole time. A small environment for him to hang out in was created around him, but wouldn't allow him to escape (notice how both ends are blocked off with a gate). Once the Time Eater got involved and yoinked the rest of the cast, Whitespace got expanded and Mephiles was confined to his boss arena. That's why the area around the entrance didn't need to be restored. It never existed to begin with
The thing about this boss fight that caught my attention was the first line. "I will defeat you and restore myself to the timeline." This stands out because did he have to fight? He could jad just left but instead chose to fight. He wanted to kill Shadow more than wanted to exist and that is saying something since in fight he wasn't his 06 self. He started off brave and confident, in the middle of the fight he was "letting Shadow go" if he begged, and by the end he was just desperately fighting to exist. If I'm thinking is true than this fight was the best narratively wise because it showed the pain he had being by himself in a place of non-existence and when ut came for freedom he chose hatred and revenge over a chance to simply exist.
the fight with the biolizard was also really good because of how Shadow knows what happened to it and knows that it is in pain and only following Gerald's orders which it had been brainwashed to do.
Admitadly I would like Mephiles to return, but the way he was potrayed here makes me think him appearing for the last time HERE might actually not be all that disapointing.
Sonic got blinded and didn't have time to react unlike shadow who wasn't blinded and saw him from behind also in the movie Sonic was able to see knuckles come from behind him yes I know they are not the same but still Sonic and shadow's reflexes are equal
I was complaining to my wife, my poor wife who has to listen to the rambling crazy Sonic fan that she married, about the same thing! I could be looking too hard into it and maybe they just felt as if having the main villain be the source of what Shadow is, Black Doom, is more satisfying to the audience. But I feel as if without intervention from the Time Eater, Mephiles is far and away the most dangerous of all the bosses in these games according to lore aside from maybe the Time Eater itself. But even still, they did such a great job with his boss fight that it's all fine.
"There is no future for you. Ever." The way Shadow said that line and how he glared at the Scepter of Darkness at the end makes me believe that during the battle, he managed to remember Mephiles and the events of 06. I know Sonic, Blaze and Elise are the only ones that have memories of the events, but if it's true that Shadow also remembers because of this encounter then that would be cool as hell! It's kind of like a Kingdom Hearts moment.
wait WAIT WAIT WAIT "In an interview by Game Informer in 2017, Takashi Iizuka stated that there were no plans for Mephiles to appear in any future games, as he was only useful for the narrative of Sonic the Hedgehog (2006). However, Morio Kishimoto later posted in a tweet in 2023 that Mephiles could potentially return in future installments. He would later be revealed as a boss in Shadow Generations a year after this statement was made."
I think it's so raw how Sonic plays through Crisis City (Iblis' personal stomping ground), and that's completely out in the open, meanwhile Mephiles is sealed deep in the opposite end of White Space and deep underground. Iblis is dangerous, but he is merely the power of Solaris and is by comparison “””harmless””” without the mind. And what's truly scary is that despite 06's events being wiped from the main timeline, as half of a time god Mephiles *remembers everything.* He even knows he was erased. And for that reason, he can NEVER be allowed to get out. That is the definition of raw.
"I WANT TO EXIST!!!" The first time I heard it was cool. But the second time... I can't help but envision Mephiles as the 'Babe please' meme screaming at Shadow while Shadow doesn't care.
Mephiles ain't gone forever lol, there's a reason the Time Eater's main attack is Sun Burst, having a miniature sun accompany it throughout the fight. (There's also the simple fact that both Time Eater and Mephiles are purple shady black mist. Time Eater is essentially a mindless Mephiles with only its instinct to consume time, but has enough to bring back both Iblis and Mephiles such is the purpose of its origin. In Generations it's essentially described as a primordial essence, i.e. something pertaining to that of which exists beyond or before time, which Solaris did) Just as there's a reason why Phantom Ruby also being of unknown origin allured Infinite to bring the sun down onto the world in Forces, possessed by whatever Phantom Ruby contained. (Solaris was an eternal Sun God) Pieces of Solaris from other dimensions which exist as a consequence of Solaris being brought into existence at all. Yes technically Solaris is removed from Sonic 06's timeline, so Dimension A, but this interdimensional God upon existing tore through the fabric of time-space and opened up dimensional rifts in doing, so it must've in theory created multiple other anchor points meaning Solaris's origin could exist beyond Dimension A. Also let's consider what actually happens in Mephiles's boss fight - first off he literally comes out of the place Shadow puts him back into, i.e. the Sceptre of Darkness, which we know at this point is pretty much useless in containing Mephiles. At best it can pretty much stall him only. In Sonic X Shadow Generations Mephiles's purple manifestation ooze can be seen corrupted Shadow's version of White Space even reaching to Chaos Island into the future. Considering that it's STILL spreading even after supposedly being: 'resealed' I reckon he simply got right back out (as his boss intro implies) and got back to attempting to restore itself to the timeline, hence why his purple corruption is still spreading in Black Doom's part of the construct and even in the final boss fight. Last, but not least coming back to Phantom Ruby. If it truly was Mephiles's doing (Infinite's glowing green eye change in his official music video and the fact it mysteriously makes him levitate exactly the same as Mephiles does. In addition to Sonic Forces being when Mephiles for the first time ever was getting official merch from SEGA), then considering Sonic Forces takes place after Generations Mephiles would've made progress to escaping sending out another one of Solaris's fragments to take revenge. To further potentially allude to Phantom Ruby being Mephiles's doing. In Sonic Forces Speed Battle, Warlock Infinite is specifically switched with Mephiles's purple aura and Oni Mephiles is specifically switched with Infinite's usual red aura caused by the Phantom Ruby. (Further indication that The Jackal which became Infinite was basically possessed by the devil, which is why the Phantom Ruby mysteriously changes his whole demeanour.) By the end of Sonic Forces Infinite is essentially vanished by the Phantom Ruby for unexplained reasons. Long story short, yes Mephiles will return. It's one part of a interdimensional lifeform that spread itself across the furthest reaches of space-time before its destruction which soul transcends time-space itself. How and when, well that remains to be seen. According to Ian Flynn Solaris is more powerful than that of The End.
That's... a lot of speculation 😅 I doubt they'll bring him back so soon I mean, he's aware he doesn't exist anymore, but we don't know if it's because he was revived by the Time Eater and realised what happened or if he was always stuck in this sort of limbo If they bring him back, I'd hope it has something to do with Silver Or the movies
@@AAlex-wg8ml Soon? Nah, probably won't be for 7 to 9 years or so, but there's definitely a way he can return and that this is the likelihood to why. Pieces of Solaris existing in other dimensions besides the one it was erased in.

What I find neat is that the first thing Mephiles does when he appears is try to stab Shadow, using the same energy spear he used to kill Sonic in 06. Keep in mind, he used it in that game as a last ditch effort to get Elise to cry and release Iblis, thus becoming Solaris. The fact he uses that same attack on Shadow highlights how desperate he is to restore himself to the timeline, even if it means killing Shadow.
See, I love Robbie Daymond, and his deranged tone and vocal desperation does match up with Mephiles’s deranged mental state. But his voice here doesn’t do it for me. Dan Green had such a foreboding and ethereal energy to him in ‘06 that Daymond simply doesn’t supply himself
All it takes is Eggman messing with something Sage warns him against to accidentally set Mephiles free. And then, the heroes panic as Sonic and Shadow go missing. Just a theory, but, Mephiles in the twisted, evil mind of Solaris. What if his power is also tied to fear, despair, and other negative emotions? Like a corrupted chaos emerald? If he came back, I feel it’d be to manipulate and kill his opposition. Then use some type of relic to start a new Dark Age. Where despair is abundant, and he rules evermore. Or he releases Dark Gaia to destroy the Earth and then other worlds.
Robbie Daymond did a fantastic job as Mephiles in this game. We are all use to Dan Green's performance, but the way Robbie delivered those lines as Mephiles made me enjoyed his portrayal
That combo where Shadow kicks Mephiles into one of those orbs and then teleports to him and slams him into the ground, that’s taken from Sonic Battle (only in that game you’d kick opponents into the arena wall instead of something specific). I’m surprised that nobody is talking about this. If I remember correctly, Sonic had a similar ability, but he’d just home in on the opponent and spin kick them to the ground, instead of teleporting and slamming them with his fists.
“I want… TO EXIST!”
That line gives me chills every time.
Rawest bar to be written
Top lines of all time imo.
I legit felt sad for him when I heard him say that
@@shaulov10 my personal belief; mephiles was already in his own form of white space, since the timeline where he existed was erased, it left a space without time, a space where time eater could pull him out of
And when the time eater is defeated, everything in white space is restored, which means mephiles might come back. Especially since the time eater tried extra hard to lock him away and we undid that
So the future where mephiles is stuck in the scepter may have been restored
It doesn’t help that RIGHT before this fight, if you talk to Gerald, he says “Whatever has been, whatever may be, must remain in tact”
We might be looking at an 06 remake if we get a year of Silver, and it’d be happening post-frontiers
Robbie Daymond is incapable of delivering lines without the perfect emotion behind them lmao

@@shaulov10 but I like him.
I think it’s funnier if Shadow doesn’t know who he is at all and doesn’t remember, because it means shadow said that shit anyway. Lol

Oh boy. How? Wasn’t Iblis literally erased from existence
@@shaulov10 She's from another dimension where pieces of Solaris remain. Solaris was only erased in Dimension A, i.e. the one pertaining to 06's timeline, but it's pieces in others. Hence the point of it being an inter-dimensional lifeform.

So maybe when Blaze went back to her own dimension after absorbing Iblis, she was somewhat exempt from Solaris’ Erasure. After all, she does say in Sonic Gen’s “I never thought I’d see myself in Crisis City again”. So she does have some memory of the events of 06
Third Sonic Rush game possibility!? Ayo?!

Something I love about the fights in Shadow Generations is that every one of them feels meaningful on some level:
Biolizard showcased Shadow compassion, as even though he would have to destroy the monster in self-defense anyway, Shadow makes it clear during the fight that he recognizes that the creature is suffering in pain and without any free will.
Funny that you think that Black Doom got completely destroyed.
Maybe u should rewatch the cutscene after the end credits? 😉

And keep in mind, this is the same man that scanned the time eater, realized how powerful it was, ran STRAIGHT into it without knowing if it would kill him, somehow convinced it to work with him..
*_and somehow gave it upgrades strong enough to take on two superforms_*
Keep in Mind Generations happens before Forces
@@NightFuryLover31 I think as a farewell to mephiles it’s a great sendoff
Hawkmoth? The same Hawkmoth from that really terrible show "Ladybug"?

@@NightFuryLover31 Ok, tbh i actually agree. I just wish the voice actors wouldn't bother with such a broken show....
@@shaulov10 If it is farewell. Didn't the series producer say Mephilis is his favorite villain and he'll bring him back "if and when appropriate"?
whoever hid him just took one look at him and said "oh this is a ACTUAL threat. nah not messing with this thing" and put him in the basement, and it was still strong enough to bring his part of the blank space to color from the inside

When you remember when Mephiles seal broke Eggmans first reaction was to run away in fear.
DARK GAIA didn’t warrant such a reaction.
Well, I guess that means just half of a pissed off Solaris is more dangerous than dark Gaia. Considering he was the only one to ever kill sonic
@@Nagatem And then people will constantly say that Dark Gaia is stronger than Solaris due to fighting a later/stronger Super Sonic
@@thomasthecoolkid7228Solaris took three Super forms to defeat. Dark Gaia just took one.
Yeah I found it out while recording this video
I played the game without control hints, so that was my first experience with Mephelis. I'm so glad that this was the first sonic game I played without control hints.
Mephiles in 06: I am ALWAYS 2 steps ahead😈🥑
Mephiles in SXSG: PLEASE I JUST WANT TO EXIST😫😖😡
Mephilies: if you'd just let me be the main antagonist in another game...
Shadow: No can do, Sega already scheduled the deadly six for the next 3 games
Mephilies: *Demonic shrieks of agony*
-Shadow, PLEASE, I NEED THIS!! My entire existence is kind of erased...
-😌
Mephiles: I will Defeat you Shadow, and restore myself to the timeline!!!
Shadow: Who are you and how do you know my name is shadow and what are you TALKING about?
Mephiles: Well Let’s just say that it’s a LONG Story that NEVER happened!!!
Reminds me of the the exchange between shadow and doom in the beginning of his game 😂
THAT'S EXACTLY
to be honest, this is just my headcanon, but..as for me, BEFORE Solaris was wanted to BE USED, Solaris was a good deity who contributed his flame for the prosperity of Solariana.
And of course a good being would get angry if they tried to use him for some shady topic
And after that, he was not just disfigured (smashed into two components that NEVER should have been broken), but literally ERASED from existence when he was in his WEAKEST form of a candle flame
I perfectly understand how the pride and kindness of gods can easily be shattered by human greed or the desire to achieve something forbidden and I am not surprised by the rage of Iblis and the hatred of Mephilis
And now they both exist NOWHERE, and only Mephilist sadly understands his fate and is truly going crazy.
Yeah, my guess is that line is a red herring. Meant to make us believe Mephiles won't return, when he fully well can.
@@ZUnknownFox They remember but the mess made by the Time Eater is undone
@@PauloH100I don't know, Mephiles is one of those characters to where as long a remnant of him exists [in this example being shadows memory of him due to the fight.] He'll find a way to come back.
It’s fun how shadow still trounces mephiles. Effortlessly dodges the shot that killed sonic and wipes out his clones while still wearing his inhibitors
I mean, if he took them off during this game, he may have just blown up
It's like how Sonic takes on Perfect Chaos in his campaign.
Not to mention that Shadow already beat Metal Overlord.
Imagine the flames of disaster became the sol emeralds
He got non cannon out the universe 😂
@@TyrannusHF Nah, he was never 'non-canon' 06 was always canon, even after the game, as Sonic still shows a recollection of events during the game,
Great video just one complaint.
Could you imagine what would happen if mephiles was brought back during the meta era.

Mephiles: shoot, in this fight I had two chaos emeralds. I felt robbed.
3:52 Honestly I think Find your Flame works for Mephiles in this boss. Especially with the line. “Will the whole world know your name?”
I love how all he ever wanted was to erase all life but now that he knows what it feels like to not exist he's genuinely horrified of that concept
He gets what he deserves
The universe itself would rather let Dark Gaia run free than let Mephiles out of the void 😆
Atleast Gaia can’t destroy the fabric of reality
@@shaulov10 Pretty sure it can if let out for long enough.

I know. That’s why the time eater is quaking in his boots
u see how great r the ian flinn writing he's lines was perfect, n thats why mephiles is my favorite sxsg boss hes lines was so fan servicing 4me
If Mephiles was sealed away, either by Black Doom or the Time Eater, it means that they KNEW how dangerous he is.
Mephiles: You took everything from me
Shadow: I dont even know who you are
If Mephiles did come back it would be interesting what could be done with him. Because it would be interesting to have this nigh-immortal, time traveling being who, while an antagonistic force, is just happy to *exist* again. I can imagine a characterisation similar to Happy Chaos from Guilty Gear, just a bit more sinister.
If Mephiles comes back I want him to just try to kill everyone on sight as soon as he sees them
@@bucketbutters866It would also be great way to bring Elise back since she’s the one who erased him from the timeline to begin with and she would probably be at the top of his list aside from Shadow.
@@BlackClaw2he could fix that by going back to eliminate Elise as an infant.
That one line proves how much Ian Flynn gives a shit, and I fucking love him for it.
This really just proves how powerful mephlies is, he was able to exist after a time re write, be aware of everything a the time eater, something that doesn't seem to have a personality, keeping it locked away is so interesting, also what I like is the layout of the chamber, it would be un accessible to most of the characters, it seems that mephlies was never meant to be found
Well the time eater wasn’t evil of it’s own volition all of the destruction and mayhem possibly even the negative space and time draining effects were done by Eggman taking control of it yes Eggman calls it a time eater and says it could erase time and space but he could of not fully grasped it’s abilities he’s brilliant but not all knowing and time eater doesn’t really attack him from what the possibly biased flashback(though I don’t eggman would include himself leaving orbot and cubot) for all we know it could have been a benevolent cosmic force of the universe gaurding over the time stream and keeping paradox and anomalies locked up but was corrupted by eggman taking control of it
well from sonic colors we know eggman was sent to the edge of the universe so who knows what else was out there, and if we want to use ian flynn og idea for the time eater then this gets more interesting (during archie days, ian said that he belived the time eater was a piece of solaris that broke off when it was defeated) though until we get a solid answer we do not know what was keeping mephlies trapped there
@world9129 More specifically, he thought the Time Eater was a remnant of Mephiles.
I mean Shadow goes and visits Sonic's part of White Space too, so i dunno. Maybe he's less hidden and more hiding?

4.56 minutes haha you said Infinite through your sheer excitement, reminds me of all the theories of Mephiles being Infinite back in early 2017
The Jackal isn't Mephiles, but he likely was possessed by him.

Omg i love Mephiles
Literally the best and my favorite villain ever.
I never really consider the placement of his boss area as some sort of a sealed tomb.
Kinda happy that we get to see Mephiles atleast one more time.
4:57 "No one will know who Infinite is"
Ahh yes my favourite Sonic 06 villain, Infinite the Jackal.
EDIT: There's another one XD
6:33 "And Shadow just says nothing t- CHAOS REACH"
Infinite was basically possessed by the devil, i.e. Phantom Ruby. There's a quite a few hints towards that idea. He's meant to be pathetic cause the true evil is the Phantom Ruby and its dark unknown origin. The Jackal is merely a host. By the time the Jackal's uses had expired the Phantom Ruby vanished him from existence to a unknown dimension.
Bro I edited this video at like 2am my editing was not it 😭
@@zocialix The ruby is probably Infinite’s black doom, except it truly trusts him and Eggman far more than anyone else.
The boss fight gave me chills and I didn’t even grow up with 06
I dont necesarily think that the time eater just wants to hide mephilis away out of fear of his power (though it definetly could be a part of it)
I feel more like this is a forgotten part of it all. The other bosses are these big enemies that often coincided wirh big character moments and they are ever present in the history.
Mephilis however is this out of place thing, it was a big part of shadows story but it kinda doesnt exist anymore.
Unlike these hughe milestones to look back on, this is a forgotten evil
M: "i want to build!!!"
S: "You will never play fortnite EVER again."
M: "NOooooo"
In all seriousness it was pretty cool fight
😭😭😭
I believe Eggman said how time will fit to his will (through the Time Eater). Maybe he had plans to use Mephiles but sealed him away until he could figure out how 🤔
this is so good so well edited and thought out keep with the work you got a sub
I like to think at the very end of the fight there's a very small part of Shadow that remembers Mephiles, like Shadow's own sense of deja vu is telling him "You hate this guy." so he instinctively throws out that final line just to rub salt in the wound.
I mean to be fair. Shadow probably made the connection since mephiles looks like him
Mephiles: I WANT TO EXIST!!
SEGA: Best I can do is make you playable in Mobile games, take it or leave it.
Talking about a part of my state is crazy.
bruh
Mephelis in Sonic 06: Malicious & Cunning
Mephelis in Shadow Generations: Agitated 12 year old with a temper tantrum
Lowkey it’s justified tho
To be fair if i was erased from existence I'd be pretty pissed too
I think it's more desperation and agitation at not having nearly even a sliver of the control he once had.
I wonder who that sounds like...
**Infinite still cries in the corner for not being in Shadow Generations**
@@Terumimi Yup I would feel the same way
classic elder scrolls dungeon design to allude to Mephiles bruhhhhhh!!! This is what classic gaming was about, Mephiles being someone you have to find through exploration (in a reasonably expansive hub world) really does feel like something akin to thinking Mew is underneath a truck.
Mephiles and neo devil doom are genuinely incredible, they actually cooked with these.
6:53 minor spelling mistake, -30000 aura
I read this with Omega's voice in mind. XD
There's a few things that get me excited about this.
1. Now that Shadow has fought him and still remembers him in a sense he does in fact still exist
2. Mephilies remembers 06 so it's less it never happened and more it happened but everyone forgot or it was separated into it's own timeline
3. Mephilies is the villain I'd love to see officially return without the erase the timeline plot and more just actually being stopped.
4. I'm positive the time eater is a form of mephilies that eggman gained control over.
I mean, probably more a remnant of Solaris as a whole than the Mephiles portion specifically but
4, that's Similar to my interpretation,
Solaris was erased but it's constituent components weren't,
I believe The Space The final Boss battle took place in (the end of time( in sonic o6) to be what spawned the time eater, specifically I think this space is like a Scar in time and space and given time to fester without being repaired by the only thing that could repair it (aka the now Dead and removed from the universe time god) leading to Eggman finding him.
Mephilis himself ends up stuck outside of time Aware and Cognizant but trapped in a void.
Iblis, Fragmented into the Sol Emeralds/Blaze, power was likely used unintentionally to create a seperate Universe, evading the wipe through being partially contained (also wouldn't surprise me if they later canonize ifrit from the rivals games as a fragment of Iblis)
Ultimately Solaris itself Left a Scar, Iblis was fragmented and created a separate world outside the timeline that was being erased, and Mephilis ends up alone in Nothingness.
And then theirs the end which we might just solo all 3 of them even if they existed seperatly Simultaneously
(Also I personally believe the phantom Ruby is actually created by the end(red purple colour scheme)
7:10 This feels...double edged, like Shadow actually knew something.
Maybe not mentally but it could probably be from muscle memory. Like his body is familiar with his strategies and moves and knows how to counter them despite shadows lack of memory of mephiles.
I'd like to think it's just his general insult to a bad guy
Mephiles is casually talking about time, original timelines and stuff which is why Shadow said that
This is a fascinating and brilliant talk about how this game gives Mephiles justice. Kudos.
I think it’s worth nothing that Mephiles’s dungeon has its own separate map because it’s buried
I love the raw replayability and level of exploration in this game.
It’s kinda ironic that he wants to exist again after what he did to reality and almost erasing time and space
A thought I had: the reason as to why Mephiles' boss gate area is already colored in instead of being completely white is because, unlike all the Whitespace areas, it didn't have to be restored.
'06 was removed from the timeline, and initially I thought that it was just because of that (already gone = no need for restoration), but Kingdom Valley kinda throws a wrench in that, so here's my theory:
Kingdom Valley is basically just an exact environment brought over from '06, but Mephiles' basement area, while similar in artstyle to a couple areas in '06, doesn't quite match any of said areas exactly. It never existed to begin with
I was expecting Infinite to be a boss too. But can’t have it all I guess.
Goddammit Shaulov! You can be snapping this hard on the thumbnail!🔥
Well shadow wouldn’t have let him get out so in order to escape he would
Have had to beat shadow
the fight with the biolizard was also really good because of how Shadow knows what happened to it and knows that it is in pain and only following Gerald's orders which it had been brainwashed to do.
Admitadly I would like Mephiles to return, but the way he was potrayed here makes me think him appearing for the last time HERE might actually not be all that disapointing.
I like to imagine that Mephiles is such a threat that even the Time Eater and Black Doom fear him 😂
2:58 Man surely Shadow's reflexes looks sharper than sonic's (cough cough sonic dying in 2006)
Sonic was to busy with the Huzz
@@shaulov10 Elise being there made his blood flow downwards and slowed down his reflexes, not to mention his attention.
Sonic got blinded and didn't have time to react unlike shadow who wasn't blinded and saw him from behind also in the movie Sonic was able to see knuckles come from behind him yes I know they are not the same but still Sonic and shadow's reflexes are equal
@@andrebrown9580 It was a joke don't take it seriously
I was waiting for someone to do a video about Mephiles thanks :)
Ever."
The way Shadow said that line and how he glared at the Scepter of Darkness at the end makes me believe that during the battle, he managed to remember Mephiles and the events of 06. I know Sonic, Blaze and Elise are the only ones that have memories of the events, but if it's true that Shadow also remembers because of this encounter then that would be cool as hell!
It's kind of like a Kingdom Hearts moment.
wait WAIT WAIT WAIT
"In an interview by Game Informer in 2017, Takashi Iizuka stated that there were no plans for Mephiles to appear in any future games, as he was only useful for the narrative of Sonic the Hedgehog (2006).
I don’t think it came close to doing Mephiles justice, it was a missed opportunity to give him a connection to the Time Eater
"I WANT TO EXIST!!!"
The first time I heard it was cool.
That's... a lot of speculation 😅
I doubt they'll bring him back so soon
I mean, he's aware he doesn't exist anymore, but we don't know if it's because he was revived by the Time Eater and realised what happened or if he was always stuck in this sort of limbo
If they bring him back, I'd hope it has something to do with Silver
Or the movies
@@AAlex-wg8ml Soon? Nah, probably won't be for 7 to 9 years or so, but there's definitely a way he can return and that this is the likelihood to why. Pieces of Solaris existing in other dimensions besides the one it was erased in.
@@zocialix Oh yeah, I agree
They're testing the waters with his character, and the implications (even if they don't) allow for a method for his return
Imagine he was the villain for Adventure 3...
@@AAlex-wg8ml It's more possible now that he could ever return being as Sonic Team is focusing on continuity and lore expansion going forward. Something the series has never had before. Ever.
@@zocialix Imagine they bring back Zadvok 💀
Though I don't really mind them reintroducing characters whilst also fleshing them out more and expanding their motivations i.e. Infinite
Bro is not take any chances
See, I love Robbie Daymond, and his deranged tone and vocal desperation does match up with Mephiles’s deranged mental state. But his voice here doesn’t do it for me. Dan Green had such a foreboding and ethereal energy to him in ‘06 that Daymond simply doesn’t supply himself
Seeing mephilus returning made me so happy because I think he’s a underrated villain in sonic the hedgehog franchise in my opinion
its no shocker why the time eater would try to prevent Mephiles to return, after all it's piloted by Eggman and Eggman,
Only partially when you think of Time Eater as Mephiles without its mind it makes a lot more sense.
Fair tbh
The fact that iblis and mephilis were such a threat that they had to retcon a whole ass timeline to get rid of him.
