I bought this game over a year ago and had no idea what I was doing. I just reinstalled it and was told by global chat to watch a tutorial……. So here I am.
6:04 - One thing to ALWAYS do, when landing in the dark (night time or in space) is turn on your ship's light. Do that with the "L" key (default). Don't land in the dark. Also, once you get close, it's a LOT easier to land in third person (F4). There is also an "auto-land" function you can use, when you get close to your assigned hangar or pad. Check your keybinds/keymaps and re-set that to something convenient for you. 6:28 - IMMEDIATELY after cutting off your engines, hit F1 (MobiGlass) and look for the wrench icon at the bottom of the display. Click on that and wait a moment for it to populate. You will be told what your ship needs in the way of fuel, repairs, and supplies (ammo). Make sure they are ALL full before you leave your ship. That way, if you're in a hurry later, you won't accidentally leave the hangar with a damaged ship and/or empty fuel tank. You can also repair/refuel/rearm at any outpost which has landing pads, by landing on one of the pads and accessing the same function there. 7:50 - Two things you DO want to grab from the white loot crates are clothes, which you can re-sell, and ALL the colors of QuikFlares (glow sticks) except for the pink ones. You can buy the pink ones ingame for five aUEC each. Those are the ONLY ones you can buy ingame. The other colors are all "QuikFlare Pros" and do not EVER run out of charge, which means you can use them over and over. This comes in handy on missions, as you can see really well with three pro flares mounted on your armor AND the NPCs can not see the flares, for some reason. That effectively gives you night vision for things such as cave missions. The looted clothes and armor you re-sell can make you a decent amount of money. I recently did a 4,000 aUEC "starter" box mission. By the time I resold the looted armor and clothes, I had made nearly 50K. Not bad for a few minutes' work. 8:26 - The downside of running is it uses up your nutrition and hydration faster, so you spend much of the time you saved topping off your character. I generally only use the walk function with the mouse wheel speed dialed up. It's almost as fast as running and doesn't cost you as much nutrition and hydration. PLUS, if your character is running, and the game makes you fall (blown over by the wind (it happens), clipping, desynch, colliding with another player), your character is MUCH more likely to be injured or even incapacitated. 9:13 - Notice the mission says, "...a quick local delivery." Do NOT believe that. They LIE. See where it says you have to pick up from a "derelict outpost?" Those abandoned outposts are populated by NPC bad guys who WILL kill your character. Plus, they have guards OUTSIDE, who will see you approaching. Plus, they DO get reinforcements in the form of several more NPCs in a Cutlass Black, partway through the mission. Your character can end up dead and your ship a lovely collection of scrap, littering the landscape. 17:55 - NOPE! Remember what I said about the QuickFlares? Now's the time to use them. 23:41 - Remember about landing on one of the other pads and doing a quick repair/refuel/rearm. I ALWAYS do that, just in case I get a call to join some friends in another type of mission. You can never be too careful about having your ship in top shape. ALSO, that outpost has several buildings, each possibly with loot crates. The armor, clothes, tools, et cetera there are yours for the taking and reselling.
To the night time flying and landing part: When you're landing on a planet, you can use default TAB to scan your surrounding, it'll highlight the terrain pretty well below you in a blue hue, so you can get a pretty decent picture about your position, when you get disoriented.
One tip if u wanna improve the bounty hunting in the Aurora is to make use of all 4 weapon points. The Aurora comes only with 2 weapons installed and an additional set of two costs only about 10k (with gimbal mount included). Your damage output goes up 61% from 511 to 824 (dps with all energy to weapons). And turn on the gimbal (meaning basically auto-aim) if you are new to the game.
Another thing a surprising amount of people don't know is that all stations have outdoor pads which you don't need permission to land on so they can be used if you just need to run inside quickly, pick someone up, or refuel without having to go in and out of a hanger. You are susceptible to pad rammers but most people who know about these pads and the people that use them as intended it's never really been a problem for me.
@@eastonboll896 I’m not the biggest tech nerd but hypothetically, yes. I have a 2070 and i7 9th gen(away from my computer so can’t give exact, but all underpowered laptop versions) and my game runs pretty solid. What I can say is that it’s more than just gpu and cpu. I tried to play a few months back and it was unplayable, like 5 fps. Since then I’ve upgraded from 16gb to 32gb of memory, undervolted the cpu and overclocked. Now I usually see about 25-35 fps in the big cities and about 35-45 fps normally. Occasionally my computer will be happy and hold between 50-65. Be prepared for roc mining though. As soon as you start breaking those gems and there’s between 200-300 entities on the screen, it shoots down to like 20-30 fps and gradually increases as you pick them up.
Man, this brings me back. One of your old videos was the first SC tutorial I ever watched when I started playing. Your voice never fails to trigger the sweet memories of wonder and discovery. Thank you for the content o7
Outstanding video. I've been following you for a long time now. I use your videos to train new players and new org members all the time. * I noticed you never used gimbal mode ("G" key) on your ship's guns when dog fighting. It's basically an "aim assist" like on console games ("easy mode" hehe). Extremely helpful for new players. * Always stay at least 30km away from landing zones. Pirates hang out at them searching for ship signatures. This is valuable knowledge for both ROC and Prospector mining. CIG has said that they plan on bringing back the ability to see "pings" which can be seen from 20km away at night. * Yes you can "stealth" a Prospector. I have brought its signature down from a distance of 20km to 2km. * Never use a direct route while quantanium mining from the planet/moon to the refinery (it doesn't matter when asteroid mining). These routes are camped by both player AND NPC pirates. Just select another quantum marker and cut the quantum a few seconds after engaging. Then plot your route to the refinery.
Oh, i recently found out that the hand mining tool is able to tractor swip your gems once you’re done exploding the node. Just click ´B’ to switch from mining to picking up mode. And fire the beam towards the gems that fell on the ground (beware, it takes some seconds and some angle) but it defenitly takes a lot less time
I watched all these guides individually when I first started playing not too long ago, but I'm rewatching this now just cuz it's that good, and it's cool to catch details that I understand more now that I've played the game a fair bit.
I always watch these more than several times each year as I get back into the game for a couple of weeks or so as these absolutely Amazing for noobs like me! One thing to note, if you ever feel like improving on the quality of these types of videos, check out a GTA business guide (Nightclub, MC Business, etc) made by TGG and see how he does things in his videos. It's a similar format where he explains how to make money with existing game features in GTA Online. The flashy animations that he does are nice but not necessary. The key takeaway is highlighting UI/UX elements as you're referring to them and always displaying the numbers on screen as you mention them. Thanks again for the video!
21:00 a faster way to loot multiple stuff on the ground is opening the inventory ("i" by default) and just drag the ones within hands reach straight to the inventory.
This is pro tutorial! I really like your way of narration. You could tho add a tip for the starters: - deliveries from derelict outposts involve armed NPCs with x4 scopes, and they don't miss, even in blizzard on microTech! And the cherry is a Cutlass Black with reinforcements! Their AI is below zero, but this mot*er****er in the top turret is very active! I'd say can be useful for starters! Derelict outposts don't have quantum beacons, so you will fly there terribly long. You could also record the basic movement keys not-in-space to make the ship movements more visible (like on your previous tutorials). Otherwise this is very helpful tutorial! Someone said (I haven't tested that) that while collecting mined gems one by one, you can press 'i' (inventory) and pick em all up to backpack, but like I said before - it's unconfirmed. Flying off a mine is fast, just exit the atmosphere, target an OM (orbital marker) QD jump, and target the closest spaceport, dock, done (5 min max).
Thanks for being so helpful! Love all your videos your sense of humor and editing make for a great user experience! Please don't let me slow you down, keep making more videos!
Gem selling is broken right now in 3.20. Can sell individually, once, then demand for them goes to 0. I've heard other people reporting similar issues when trying to do the drug trade in game. There's a couple open issues on the Issue Council about it right now. I've been running the personal mission Breach and Steal in Crusader system. payout is 73k for no combat, pick up a package and deliver to Grim Hex. downside is occasionally the dropoff point is bugged and won't register delivery.
As a side note I feel its a good time to mention the 15 minutes of lag when you login does happen, but it can be alleviated by installing Star Citizen on an M.2 Drive. I have 0 lag. And can be picked up very cheaply even at Walmart for about 80 bucks investment.
Awesome guide, it’s been going well but now I’m at the stage where I’m selling gems and it won’t work. Keep getting the message transaction price mismatched. People say to split the gems into individual stacks but that didn’t change anything
I started backing, shit, 2015... I've played it here and there. Been looking to get back into it. I did buy a HOTAS but don't have it set up as I need to get my new desk setup first. That's on hold as my wife needs to move some shit out of my computer room, and I need to get my kidney cancer removed (scheduled May 16th). This is literally what I've been looking for as a guide as you are explaining everything, making key binding recommendations, etc. This game has a lot of shit and you can easily get something and go, crap, this doesn't help me do squat. As you pointed out, Robert's perfectly ok with making money, even if it means you made a mistake and have to buy more. I have Cutlass Black and F7C-S Hornet Ghost. I do have 12k UEC and 1,784, 714 REC, but I don't remember the monetary system. I do have a lot of stuff I can melt, ~ $321 in value. I have a new vid card coming tomorrow as my 2080 TI has a fan going out. Not sure if I will play it today, but will start later this week. Following this pretty much step by step. Thanks
Hi Hawkes, do you know if they removed all the weapon caches you have on screen at 10:19, in 3.20? I went to 2 of them last night and neither even had an empty chest? I’m hoping I just got unlucky!
Thank you for the great guide! Oh usually not an issue but the background music was too loud, made it distracting to what you were saying. Really hoping for 3.18.2 clean up or 3.19 to get rid of so many issues CIG brought in with their updates. Thank you again looking forward to your next video!
well i keep getting to the base i got water and food then just now i got on the train and then the server froze. I asked and they said something about server issue i waited like 20 min when i tried to shrink the game and do something else waiting for the game to unfreeze but my pc crashed. My free fly says it ends on 7/17/2023. The server freezing needs to be addressed but it's better than before looks better too! When i get off work i'll try to finally get to my ship i want to see if SC flies like elite dangerous or different like no man sky
just done all the bounty evals like you said on your video but haven't had one cave mission pop up or any bounty contract. is this some sort of bug or have I gone wrong somewhere?
Did they fix the Mustang Alpha or is it still unable to carry box? Ok, once it was a fighter - but now it's a light freight! Still not able to load a box into it?
Hello Hawkes, thanks for the video it was and is still a huge help to me as a starting player (alot of crashes and loosing loot in last week, but having a blast). My question is, will you be updating this video with 3.19 system of mining? :) Thanks!
Haven't played in while - are components now insured? You talk about blowing yourself up to mark a patch, but wouldn't that make you lose your upgraded components like the lancet? Has that changed?
I landed on lyria scans barely shows any minerals and it didn't show the gems HUD from close range, also these rocks kinda not responding to mining, it has red (Impossible) word on scanning. What's wrong pls I don't want to stop this game out of frustration lol Thanx 4 any help
Will it becoming to Xbox and PlayStation cause I’ve played elite dangerous without getting to play this game yet tho I still love elite dangerous but there is nothing in the works for planet exploration even though you can buy planet exploration vehicles hanger for our ships.if anyone has any thoughts on the subject please feel free to share
Just visited the first place to loot some containers but there's no containers to loot, just the package to collect. They must have stopped that exploit?
Just from watching a bunch of videos of CS, they need a bunch of QoL upgrades to the game. Mining this far into the future would be alot more automated (Maybe more like eve online) looting and transfering things between different locations should be alot easier...
I've just tried three box delivery missions. Each time I get close, I see "Delivery Objective Withdrawn" and find nothing to deliver. I guess I'll go back to salvaging.
I took the mission thats supposed to unlock the cave missions, but while i was flying there, the mission completed itself, and now i cant get cave missions, does anyone know a fix for this?
Its lokal inventory. Local means inventory in that specific place. After you put it in your lokal inventory, go to your ship and transfer all the stuff over.
With the fps mission and mining I logged out next to the cave but would I have to worry about other people getting the same cave for there mission and killing me while mining
Picked this game up a couple years ago, 14 fps the entire time, instantly got glitched in my ship and it’s canopy ejected, read that i needed to get my account completely reset to continue. Uninstalled. Might get back into it when i get a getter cpu.
@galaxya40s95 Thanks for letting me know about free week it ended on the 17th i had a much better time walking around my base and apartment area it's a really big area. Sadly i didnt have the time to get to a ship and fly around 1st due to server issues when i got there everything slowed and then froze other players were saying how the game server had some bugs so it stayed that way like 20 min then my game just crashed the time i got back to my original spot i had to go and that was the last day of play. I just wanted to say thanks as you could of not said anything to me and i would of gone on with star citizen based off my very 1st awful play-thru so thanks and take care!
This should be required watching for all new players.
Is this guide outdated
i am watching now XD

I asked and they said something about server issue i waited like 20 min when i tried to shrink the game and do something else waiting for the game to unfreeze but my pc crashed. My free fly says it ends on 7/17/2023. The server freezing needs to be addressed but it's better than before looks better too! When i get off work i'll try to finally get to my ship i want to see if SC flies like elite dangerous or different like no man sky
just done all the bounty evals like you said on your video but haven't had one cave mission pop up or any bounty contract. is this some sort of bug or have I gone wrong somewhere?
5:51. I arrived at the station and it said I was too close. Asked to land (; key) and nothing happended. Stuck there.
This was so good. Thanks
Did they fix the Mustang Alpha or is it still unable to carry box? Ok, once it was a fighter - but now it's a light freight! Still not able to load a box into it?
One of those TH-camrs I subscribe to because they have such a good sense of humor💀
Dude, so funny to watch and for a noob like me....really good Guide!sub!
11:20
The one thing I'm having a hard time figuring out is how to get the local inventory on the left side of the screen.
me too, my backpack cant bring toomany items like that
14:57 LOL that's why I leave volumetric clouds on 😂
can you show me how to get pass the login mini game???
It woukd be nice to get past the Main Menu Loading loop in stuck in to actually play.
Good work! Thank you About this tutorial! Help me a lot
For roc mining you keep referring to signal strength. Where do I see that on my ships dash? I’m so confused looking for it. Maybe I’m dumb lol
The Mustang Alpha is a great ship for starting out with cargo space and fighting capability for only $45
Hello Hawkes, thanks for the video it was and is still a huge help to me as a starting player (alot of crashes and loosing loot in last week, but having a blast). My question is, will you be updating this video with 3.19 system of mining? :) Thanks!
Yeah as soon as it goes to pu.
@@HawkesGaming That was such a quick answer wow! thanks and will be looking forward to it!
Hey Hawkes Gaming, are you planning to do another zero to hero video for 3.19?
yeah Ive been recording it. =)
What's wrong pls I don't want to stop this game out of frustration lol
Thanx 4 any help
How are your ship screens so clear and easy to read, mine are blur tastic
Yay all in one vid. :D Thanks Hawkes.
Excited for you to make a guide for 3.19....because I just lost most of my cash in a 30k error.
Im sure its my fault being the lead programmer for the game.
Song @12:25?
Insted of pressing F for taking all gems by hand. Press i and pull them from the ground to your Inventory.
So ... soooooooooooooo many good advices I wish I knew earlier !!!
The cave mission i really cant find, they are just not in my contract manager.
I've just tried three box delivery missions. Each time I get close, I see "Delivery Objective Withdrawn" and find nothing to deliver. I guess I'll go back to salvaging.
So what happens if someone steals your ship? You can just summon it again right?
Just picked up the Nomad starter pack on sale for $71.25. 25% off.
How do I tell if my engine is fully charged? I can tell when the shield is but not engine.
I started with the mustang. I now know I made a mistake. Is it too bad or is it basically the same?
Whats going on Hawkes!!!! Still keeping u and ur family in prayer. Good to see some more SC content
Good on ya . mate.
is the game playable yet ? it was so buggy when I started few weeks ago that nothing worked except bounty's and it got boring
I took the mission thats supposed to unlock the cave missions, but while i was flying there, the mission completed itself, and now i cant get cave missions, does anyone know a fix for this?
can I ask what armor you're rocking here and why?
Are there any disadvantages to buying a Mustang Alpha than an Aurora MR? I already bought a Mustang Alpha before watching this video.
how come i don't have that much inventory space like 11:20 ? xD
Its lokal inventory. Local means inventory in that specific place. After you put it in your lokal inventory, go to your ship and transfer all the stuff over.
With the fps mission and mining I logged out next to the cave but would I have to worry about other people getting the same cave for there mission and killing me while mining
OMG i finally got it to work!!
Picked this game up a couple years ago, 14 fps the entire time, instantly got glitched in my ship and it’s canopy ejected, read that i needed to get my account completely reset to continue. Uninstalled. Might get back into it when i get a getter cpu.
Alt+N already is a hot key for requesting landing and take off
I keep going to the places he suggest in stage 1 to get weapons from Bud's Growery/Shady Glen and there is no loot anywhere. What am I doing wrong?
I'm not 100% but this happens to me sometimes, I think someone had looted it just before you arrived.
Even as a joystick enjoyer, I appreciate that your guides always feature keyboard usage for those who use KBM. Your delivery is also rock-solid.
