Sadly Gerald Albright never played on a conn Chu Berry which is by far my second favorite saxophone other than the mark six. I guess it’s personal preference.
i'm actually pretty big on jay's solo here. The stuff he played definitely wasn't as technically demanding as like... Chad's solo haha, but it wasn't a walk in the park, and definitely did demonstrate a lot of musical maturity even beyond some of the players on the list. I found it was actually a refreshing break, especially following a lot of likewise amazing players playing amazing things. Wish i could play as half as well as the artists featured here!
this comment is underrated, I've gotten to know a large portion of the list fairly well, and Jay came in like a fine wine while erryone else is taking shots.
Best 12 minutes I've spent on TH-cam in a long while. I kept saying "Yeah man!" through the whole thing. Derek representing bari sax was smoking. I'm greedy and want another international collaboration sooner than later.
Jim, Great job on this. Thanks very much for asking me to be on it - I'm really honored to be in the company of all of these amazing players. Great job everyone!

@@dcross8034 Way back when, Tom Scott was touring with the Northern Illinois University Jazz Band. A band I was playing with had Arnie Lawrence in as a guest soloist and clinician. I had the privilege of taking Arnie into Rolling Meadows to meet up with Ron Modell and the NIU Band. I got to have dinner with the saxophone section, with Arnie Lawrence sitting to my left, Modell to his left and Tom Scott to Modell's left at the head of the table. Scott gave me some great advice that night about saxes, which to get, and a host of other things. It was a blast to hear Scott solo and then Lawrence take a chorus or eight right after him. I miss Arnie Lawrence. He was a great guy, a great soloist, and a fantastic musician.
This is the one great thing that happened because of and during 2020. You are all ROCK STARS!! Honestly, did anybody not have a huge smile when you saw Gerald Albright throwing down that solo?
Bravo ! Thanks to all of you musicians. Mindi Abair, I so miss your "Chill" radio show. Also the shows back in early 2000 where I saw you, were very special events to attend. THX! Yuma,AZ.
What I found interesting was not who was the best sax player but who really was able to engage with the tracks harmonic direction and really tune into where the crescendos were and land the resolutions with incredible musical mastery. Scott, Albright and Kashiwa.
There's nothing like funky sax players cuttin' loose. Man this was awesome. Tom Scott... for real though, a personal hero on sax. Oh, and I see you Gerald... showing them how we did it at Locke High School. "Saint Pride."
There should have been more. There was another really good female sax player that i listen to sometimes - candy Duffer i think her name is. Maybe she was busy during the project. I guess you cant add all the great sax players out there; you'd need 3 cds for one song lol.
Great and wonderful video. The speech at the beginning is really deep and outstanding. The list is perfect and a joy to find Lester, Hank Mobley and Ben Webster my personal favorites in tenor sax playing.
Well done that guy with the razor blade and sticky tape. Well done Jim you held your own! Amazing the different sounds and styles from one instrument. I have seen and met several of these guys several times and yes, they are all great players. If you get the chance get to a live performance - guaranteed enjoyment.
This was awesome, especially loved seeing my heroes Tom Scott and Coffin as well as all the TH-cam stars. Metcalf and Tia sounded great and I loved the Brecker licks from Mongerio. Well done. Need to get Marc Russo on this next time :)
And the Chad wins! Lol seriously though, everyone sounded awesome. Great to hear all these incredible players. I've always been a fan of Albright and great to hear Tom Scott again. Just love how Chad played with so much virtuosity and soul. Told a story and flexed his smooth chops.
So awesome. Fantastic chops. And not a single unnecessary note. Thanks everyone. My lock down finishes in a week. Will add this to my 2 hour bus & train play list. Might loop it.
Wowww. Tremendous. Fantastic!!!!!! All of you have bring us a ton of relief in the middle of the pandemic and the Amanda Tropical Storm. Greetings from El Salvador, Central America.
It kinda sucks that we wouldn’t met Chad LB, we had this thing at our school called “Jazz night” where we invite a famous artist to play with us and Chad was invited but it was unfortunately canceled because of the virus :/

Yes! Fantastic playing and great inspiration to hear all these monster players together. Personally I liked the technicality of Chad's playing and the soulfulness of Gerald's the best. 2 of my favourite players right there.

Great job Jody! Loved your solo and it’s really inspiring as a player that uses your mouthpieces, can’t wait to hear more!
After listening to all these solos I'm left with one thought above all else... Michael Brecker really changed the way we play the saxophone.
So he was the root of all that style influence then?
This style of playing would certainly look different without the Brecker brothers and Michaels influence generally on sax players.
Glad to see Dean Mongerio in this. He is an absolute monster player.
