Some say that Leo doesn't have lung, he has portable air compressor. Very fact he played this monster of a sax, didn't get blue in the lips and walked away is amazing. When I worked with a theater company doing sound engineering, we had a contra bass sax and the guy that played was always weak in the knees and need to lied down during intermissions. Love Leo just whole persona and control, keep it up.
The most impressive thing to me, is the attack and decay of the lower notes. A pipe on a large pipe organ takes time to begin to resonate, then, continues to resonate even after the airflow has been cut off. This sax can produce its low notes immediately, then, stop, or move on to another note. I've never seen this done on a tuba, which I assume has a similar range to this huge sax. A tuba cannot transition from note to note, nearly as quickly as this saxophone. Nicely done, Leo!!!!
@AJ H. I watched the video again, and noticed that he immediately allows the valves to open, which I'm sure, helps dampen the resonance. that's how I think he gets the immediate decay.
If one of my bands would let me I could do 10-15 min long impro soloes when I get in the zone. I do it pretty often at home. I do play the trumpet though

@@rumikazbar8228 if you want to play clarinets, learn tenor first. I personally prefer Bari but I'm biased towards low Instruments.
Holy crap.... the range of notes and sounds he got out of this is incredible ! What a player !!
The best part about this instrument is that the pitch does not distort as it goes lower like contrabass clarinets do. Every time he plays a low A, there is no question what the pitch is. When contrabass clarinet plays that note (written low D), it’s very hard to hear the center of the pitch. Eppelsheim is an instrument wizard!!
The first 10 seconds is exactly what my bowels sound like about an hour after a beef and bean burrito...
I love beef and bean burritos!
I feel you
You need to see a doctor
I DIDN'T KNOW A SAX COULD GET THAT BIG!! PLAYED ALTO IN SCHOOL, LOVE IT! BASS MAN NOW!! I STILL LOVE THE SOUND!
Leo's greatest nemesis: Not being able to rotate
me seeing this in my recommended: IM R E A D Y
That harmonic higher C keeping the beat through it all makes me happy. Leo always manages to make the harmonics sing out, somehow. Maybe cos he blows true?
That contrabass sax sounds sick, I have never heard one being played before, you were jamming man!
DUDE, RespECT! If anyone has played a contrabass, they'll know it's only operable with a hurricane of airflow. You have my respect my friend for that last low note... RocK ON bruh!
before i clicked on this video i said "this is gonna be fucking crazy" and i was right. leo is fucking amazing, i play the bari sax and im in just in awe at how he does some of the shit he does lmao
This has to be my favorite performance on a contrabass sax. Finally somebody did something with it.. very interesting harmonics on the upper range. This man can make that little baby sing🐦
I felt like I was running out of breath just watching this. Leo is legend.
Although this isn't my kind of SAX playing...I must stand in awe of his ability to do what he does. And the most impressive thing about it is...this isn't even His instrument. He play's a Bari-sax. There is still a difference in playing something you're not used to, there just is! Here he is just killing it on an instrument that almost no-one has even heard of...let alone played! He may be the very best ever on the Sax. Better even than Boots Randolph. I'm sure Ol' Boots would be very impressed. Thanks for the upload!

I NEED THIS TRANSPOSED NOWWWWW!!!!
*ledger lines assemble*
@zhl242 please make a transcription for this Magic song 😍
Lol YES

I hope to hear more of these dubstep brown-notes on the next record!
I'm a saxophonist and I don't even think I can even attempt to breathe into the contra bass sax..Leo P is awesome
Leo P is by far my favorite saxophonist
You guys have no idea how long I’ve been waiting on Leo P to go there and do something, but to my surprise he used a contrabass😍
MISTER34SIR he got his tenor sax from them too
I've been coming back to this video for several years now to share with friends the immense talent of Leo!!! This is arbitrarily incredible.
Me: watch one video about cheap saxophones on Amazon.
TH-cam algorithm: WE GOT EM with this one.
Only Leo P. Can make a contrabass have high notes like:
Someone: contrabass saxophones are only meant for background and low notes!!!
Leo P.: hold my beer 🍺
Eppelsheim, this instrument's manufacturer, makes a quality product.
Leo P doing with a saxophone, what David King(level 42) does with bass guitar: Bring it to front center stage!
You mean hold my saxes
That is an amazing place with all that brass!! That is awesome!!
Leo P, I remember you from the subway.. and look at you now.. Always a Great Talent Always a Performer Always Da Man... Congrats Bro.. Keep Humble and Keep the world Brighter with your Music.. Thanks for the Constant inspiration..
Leo is literally going to play a whole whale 🐳 next and it will still sound good
OhYeahCookie I would pay to see that
Not often I laugh out loud at a TH-cam comment...nice one OhYeahCookie!
I died
Which part of the whale will he be blowing ?
🤣🤣🤣
OUtstanding! He shows composers how this horn can be used. I'm sure Leo Licks will show up in future saxophone compositions. He shows how much this beast of a horn can do!
Collab with vulfpeck! Imagine a bass battle with Leo and Joe Dart !!
Oh my word!! That would be amazing.
BRILLIANT!
Leo P vs Chris Potter
I was thinking the exact same thing...
YES MAN! 👏🏾 The harmonic glissandi on that contrabass sounds straight up sinister! 🦇🦂🕷🔥
GuuzakaTube how does he do it
Never knew an Instrument like this exists. Neither a musician that could play it like that. Isn't the world a beautiful place?
Now to hunt more of both so I may broaden my horizons ever more!
It must have killed him to stand that still when playing.
Kase Garcia I went to high school with Leo he has always been dancing lol we played the nutcracker every year and when he play the clarinet solo and the one piece he and our brass section basically had a dance routine together lol
Actually, I think moving around is what would kill him.
@@trevonsmith2761 so to see him sitting still like this is a very big surprise. Playing the sax like this, I think wouldn't really be all that surprising for you, would it? 😉
Eyy profile picture buddy!
me: listens to contrabass in alto range
" it cant be that hard."
Leo:
AAAAAAAA THE STRUGGLE
just bite your reed, any reed instrument will instantly jump to like the 10th octave
@@anuclearpan4554 Ah yes, the legendary tooth-tissimo.
@@anuclearpan4554 But if you actually watch the video, you'll notice how there's times where he doesn't bite the reed, and he goes into the range that most tenors play in
Leo....you are really something!!
Leo P is the Tom Morello of saxophonists.
Freddie Mercury of saxophonists
