- I completely disassemble the bolt of this great shotgun. It is an easy job and you should have no problems doing thsito your shotgun. I am not an expert but I have a lot of time with this shotgun and I would recommend that you do this every few hundred rounds and really do a thorough cleaning. I would not put much lubrication, just a very slim film.
I hope this video helps anyone who is interested in taking their bolt down. If you have any questions, either ask in the comments or shoot me a pm. Thank you and God Bless. - แนวปฏิบัติและการใช้ชีวิต
Thank you for this video. You completely disarm the viewer with your relaxed personality and make it not so scary. Had to replace my extractor and this was a huge help! Thanks again... You should be a teacher if not already.
Same here! The freaking thing wont come loose!
This is my go-to video when I'm working on my Mossberg Bolt thank you very much
Nice tutorial ! Thanks for sharing this . I feel confident enough to perform this task myself after watching this video .
My shotgun started misfiring and I wanted to get the bolt and open it up and clean it cuz it has a little bit of rust in there I had no idea how to take that thing apart you mentioned a punch tool 1/16 went and bought that clean everything up now thanks to you sir my shotgun has not missed fired again I appreciate your videos so much thank you
awesome, exactly what I needed for my 500. punch set is in the mail!
Well done brother! 👌 Great video!! Nicely put together and straight to the point!! No bullshitting around!!
Another great video.Looking forward to more. Thanks and take care.
Thanks for the video. My gun is new but this was very informative. good job!!!!!
Man this video helped me a bunch. Thanks for posting my friend.
Just what I was looking for! Thanks.
thanx sir this is a rly good and weel done vid
Thank you for your effort. This is a video that has help save me some aggravation for next time this procedure is done.
Hey chromefreak123 great video...I subbed and look forward to your next vid (easy to follow instuctions the way you present it)...
thx for making this vid. been suspecting I have a damaged firing pin on my 500. this makes it so I don't have to send my primary HD gun to Mossberg for weeks on end.
My pins behave NOTHING like this.
I’ve broken two punches trying to get one of the two extractor pins out.
I gave up.
Also the main pin that holds the cocking blocker, as you call it, is a beast. It was very difficult to get out, and not very difficult to get in.
Thank you, I really needed to learn how to get the extractor out, I broke mine
Great video. Thank you so much.
I appreciate the help sir
Very very helpfull liked and subed
Nice job as always. FYI the locking block on top isn't what gets pulled by the bolt slide... the hooked bit in the bottom of that piece is. The top engages with the barrel extension to lock the action closed for firing. Rock on!
pretty cool!
Thanks and I will check out your vids.
I really appreciate it and thank you. : )
yep I'm the same way about wanting to take down my guns too. I got a bolt similar to this in an old mossberg 500 I got but the firing pin is not the spring type but the old rocker type. I had to make a new firing pin for it you can check it out on my channel. Not the most fun but it worked.
But this break down of the bolt is almost exact to the older bolts so is a great instructional for both bolts.
@hyman1768 try nocking out the pin for the firing pin first. it should relive the pressure of the spring on it
I really appreciate that, thank you. : )
It should but don't beat it if its starting to mushroom. I will make a video on that bolt very soon. Thanks.
This is quite better than the trigger group. Thanks a lot on this. I can actually see the details on how you do it. May I have a request sir can you do the trigger group again and do it in close up views? More like this or better. Thanks a bunch!
@1979aerocaprice I love the Mavericks. They are the GMC to Chevy. They are very reasonably priced and you get a lot of shotgun for the money. If you need any pointers, please do not hesitate to get with me and I will help as much as I can. Thanks.
I am very happy I helped you. Thanks for watching. : )
Thank you. : )
@ArtisanTony Thanks, I want to watch the cabin video you have just recently put out. I have been real busy but I am going to get to it soon. Thanks.
@7mjbennett Hell Yea, thats want I love to hear. Really, Thank You.
When you’re putting the extractor pins in on the left side, the side that is not seen. Do you want to stop that pen before it goes into the main groove on the side. Do you want to keep it on the high side of the groove or doesn’t it matter? Thank you
@LMarshall32 I appreciate you letting me know it helped you. Thanks.
LOL! I wish it came apart this easily. Mossberg must have welded my pins in.
Jameson Kelvin so glad I'm not alone. Mine won't budge at all.
Jameson Kelvin I thought the same exact thing you have to go get those punch tools it will make your job so much easier I had absolutely no problem after I purchase the punch tool
@jeffshootsstuff I got you. Thanks for setting me straight, I need that now and then. lol. Thanks again.
@NewAgeDirector Will do and thank you so much. : )
@hopecamel I appreciate it and thank you. : )
Thank you, checking now.
Thank you! The tear down on the 500 is the same, right?
Make sure you have the gun cocked and the safety on. I just told the other guy also, Try racking it, then make sure its clear, pull the trigger, try and see if the pin moves, if it starts to, re-rack the gun and go ahead with disassembly. If you live in South Florida, I could be of more assistance.
yeah i have the same problem with the first pin not coming out. i also put the bolt in a vise and tried knocking the pin out with a punch and the punch broke!!! so i gave up on it before i brake something. all the other pins come out no problem.
Synchronizor : Yes the left extractor is shorter of the retaining pins. That is due to the ejector having to come down that cut out in the bolt to eject the spent shotgun case. Right extractor has a sharper angle almost 90 degrees.
I have been trying to take my bolt apart for my 590 ai but for some reason the first pin you have to hammer out won't budge, I have tried but it just doesn't want to come out. Any suggestions?
@1ILgunner I don't know about that, lol. I do appreciate it though. Thank you.
Yeah! Be careful, I sent the bolt into Mossberg to replace the broken extractor, but they said they're just going to replace the whole bolt. I asked them if they could punch out the pin, then put it back in but they refused because they don't want users disassembling them. :/ hopefully my new bolt will be easy to work with. I sent the broken one in like 2.5 weeks ago ;/
@ChromeFreak123 I appreciate it! Watch when you can!
"OH, I PUT IT IN THE WRONG HOLE!!??" OOP's!! LOL I'm so immature?
I've been pounding that big pin (the first one you removed) with a punch and a hammer, and it moved a tiny bit, but was not coming out. I had it over wood first, using a 16 ounce hammer, and it didn't move at all. Then I tried the bench vise and the 16 ounce hammer (having the vice open 1/4" so the pin could go through), and got no movement. I switched to a 3 pound sledge and was able to move it about 1/8", but felt like I was going to destroy something so I stopped. I watched your video, and the pin is popping right out of there. I'm not sure what to do, other than move up to a 5 pound sledge and keep working on it.
It doesn't appear rusty, but the "cocking block" is not moving smoothly.
Any advice? This gun is pretty new, and this is the first time I've tried to take the bolt apart. Prior cleanings I just cleaned and oiled what I could without major disassembly. This time around, I'm getting more detailed.
In a maverick 88, 18 1/2 inch barrel, for use in home defense in a very small home. What shall do you recommend using? I’ve heard dove load, I’ve heard 3 inch magnum buck, I’ve heard the Hornaday critical defense.
@sgiroux10 Yes and thank you for asking. : )
Thank you! The 500 has the same bolt, right?
Hey Chrome Freak! Is it possible to remove the right or left side ejectors without stripping the bolt down like you did in this video? My right side extractor is broken after the bolthead fall of the table. I would like to change it. My mossberg 88 seems to be all ok and extract the shells anyway but I want it to bee foolproof!
It's cool but thank you. I could swear that it is welded together lol. I had my brother holding the bolt and me hammering as hard as I could, but it just won't come out. I broke my left extractor in the process :/. I am going to see if Mossberg can help me get the bolt replaced somehow. Thanks!
@ristin59 Thanks Gary.
I have another video on this, where I show how to get the difficult ones out. In fact, its a response video to this one. Thanks.
The pin vid is helpful! Thanks for sharing that.
Do both extractors use the same pin? Or are there distinct parts for the right and left claws?
@604axeman It can be tough but I never give up. lol. Thanks bro... : )
Thanks for the video. I've had a problem with my 835 not ejecting spent cartridges. The bolt looks very similar. I'm trying once again to fix. The extractor pins on your bolt. Do they look the same or are they different? My bolt they look different. Just trying to narrow down the problem. thanks Mike
@unomas58 There is a lot more to come. Thank you.
@madmartee I appreciate it, I make these videos hoping that they actually help people, thank you for letting me know it does. : )
which pins are notched? only extractor pins? how about firing pin's pin?
Well I tried this tonight on my 835, but I think where I dropped the gun in salt water 2 years ago the pin in rusted solid inside. Damn pin won't come out. I don't dare to hit any harder. LOL.
@mikerowbury Are you asking is the bolt on the 590 the same as the 835 ? Or are you asking about the double extractor on the 590 ? If you want, pm me for my # and we will figure the problem out together, just not sure what you are asking. Please, let me know. : )
@neonightkiller Yes and yes. lol. I thought I hasd answered this comment but I guess I did not. I am sorry it took so long to get back to you.
i have a mavrick 88 and i tried to take the bolt apart but couldnt get out the frist pin that holds the cocking block. any tips on getting it out? didnt want to mess up the bolt.
My camera work sucks, sorry.
OK, I just uploaded a new Bolt video to show how to get that pin out.
Yes it is, thanks for watching.
hay I wondering if you might be able to troubleshoot my Mossberg 500..the problem is the firing pin is not hitting the primer on the shell sometimes I have had it for less than a year ...any idea what it could be ?? ps...great vids
HellYea
The video is posted as a video response to this video now. I hope it helps. If you need more help, let me know. Thanks. : )
the first pin you removed on my 500 does not want to come out. its not even budging, Starting to mark up now that iv been hitting it.
it fell in water this morning so :S
I would really need to take a look at it. If you can make a video or even take pics of all angles and email them to me. Thanks.
Would you know were to get a replacement locking-pin that is in the back of the bolt? It's the first pin you punch out, in order to release the firing pin. I accidentally chipped it maybe 1-3 millimeters on one of the ends, but it still looks functional. Although, I don't want to try to operate the shotgun like that for safety issues obviously. If you have any info. I would appreciate it. Thank you.
gunpartscorp.com. I know they have all the parts in stock.
@ChromeFreak123
I'll subscribe waiting for that video sir. Thanks!
Like "Tour Guide" (below), I can't budge the first pin you removed. Any tips on special techniques? Special tools? Anything? I'm desperate!
Thank you for watching. : )
I just uploaded a new video to show how to remove that pin.
I have a new bolt video up, its about 2 months old. I will actually link it to this video as a video response. I show why the pin is hard to get out in the new video. Thanks. : )
The 500 bolt is identical to the 590 fwiw
@barney1515ful I am sorry it has taken so long to get back to you but I am working unGodly hours and the night shift to boot. If you are still having problems, pm me and I will give you my # and we will figure the problem out on the phone. I have a pretty good idea what the problem could be but I need more info. Thanks and also sorry for taking so long.
Wow, I have never had a problem with them. I clean or fix a few a month and have never had one stuck like that. Sorry. : )
I just uploaded a video on how to remove the locking bolt pin.
I just uploaded a new video on removing the locking bolt pin on the Mossberg bolt.
I just bought a new Mossberg maverick 88 and it won’t fire any shell I put five in and it only fired one and I can’t take it back to the store for refund so now I’m off to a gun Smith with a brand new gun sucks that they sell crap that I half to get fixed
Soak the whole bolt in some good degreaser and then soak it in some kind of break free, then give it a shot. Thanks. : )
I can't remove that the main bolt pin to save my life..
literally cant even get the first pin out with a punch and hammer
Just fall out? Really I have had to beat the piss out of mine and still didn't get it. I gave up...
Really? It shouldn't be that bad. I can call if you want. Thanks. : )
@jdp8642 I am willing to PM you my phone # and we can try and figure it out over the phone. I am not sure why yours would not come apart. I do have one question, is it a used shotgun ? Thanks. : )
Sorry bro., wrong comment, ignore all I wrote above.
u need to zoom in so we can see what ur doing :-(
Bro, I sent the wrong answer to this comment, lol. I am an idiot. If you need help, PM me and I will send you my #.
