  • So here it is. I sold my 4 stroke honda CRF 450 and bought a 2 stroke KTM 250 EXC dirt bike. Here's why.

    I've always ridden 2 strokes and was thinking about getting a CRF 450L, but now you've got me wanting to stick with the 2 strokes, I wish Honda would make a road register-able CR 250, 2 stroke. Well at least here in Australia we don't have them.

    Rode 2 strokes for ever, good fun, still have a cr250r in the garage. Didn’t want anything to do with the 4’s for a long time and then they just got better. Now I’m racing harescrambles on a prepped 450rx and it is on a another level, it loves all the orange obstacles... I race standard map in the mud and race map in the woods and sunny days, jumpy like a 2 stroke in race mod but with better traction to the ground and longer, harder pull and some may not realize, it revs higher as well. Think about what this 450 is doing while Out reving the 2strokes, just let that soak for a minute. But if you can’t handle big red, you will surely get whipped and be slow. If you have the strength, talent and balls, this bike will send it! Honestly this bike unleashed me and the 2 stokes left me wanting a bit on top. Don’t get me wrong still have a soft spot for my smoker, quick blip and she launches you off a jump face, like I said fun but the 450rx means business on race day. Rider has to fit the bike, no doubt...

    Everyone always told me that I should get 4 stroke, so 5 years ago I did. Now I have both of them. It’s hard to say witch one is better. Raw power vs Smooth power. I feel like it depends how u ride, type of riding u do and conditions. Wet conditions I would probably stay on 4 stroke. Also when I am on 4 stroke i can be lazy, bike is more forgiving, hill climbing with deep send a lot easier. Only problem is weight. 2 stroke I have to ride more aggressive, watch out for that power bent. When we ride fast on trials, feels like bike want to kill me. But it’s fun bike to ride, climbing up dry rivers it’s easier. I been wanted to sell both bike, and just get one. But I don’t know witch way to go. 2 or 4.

      Yeah I agree. Each to their own. There’s no better bike, they’re both good for different things. The king of enduro riding I do which is the slow technical stuff, I will say I find the 2 stroke a lot better for the bottom end torque

    • @DirtBikesAustraliaa
      @DirtBikesAustraliaa 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      MidWest MX have you road a 4 stroke Enduro ? I find my 350 is perfect for technical riding depends how fit and strong you are to but I have ridden both bikes in technical riding and the 2 stroke is lighter yes but depends how strong the 4 stroke rider is might feel like a 2 stroke to him 🤷‍♂️

      That’s the big difference. Yeah I had a go on a Ktm 350 enduro beginning of the year. Loved it. But you can feel the weight difference when you ride it. The 2 stroke is like riding a mountain bike. Obviously it’s riders preference. I myself prefer the 2 stroke now I have one

  • @Mockle07
    @Mockle07 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Dude, are you comparing a 2t enduro bike to a 450 4t MX bike?! When I rode the KTM range at an Ady Smith day the 250 & 300 2t bikes were snappier than the 4t bikes for sure. Not saying they are bad... obviously they’re awesome, but a KTM 350 or Sherco 300 4t are epic enduro bikes too. Ultimately you can’t go wrong these days, just pick the right tool for the riding you do... which you have it seems.
    BTW, mousses take a few hours to bed in from what my buddies tell me (I’m running tubliss) so hopefully yours play ball soon...

    • @MidWestMX
      @MidWestMX  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      In all honesty you can’t compare a 4t to a 2t. Completely different bikes. I’m just surprised at how well I’ve adapted to the 2t. I’ve tried a few 4t enduro bikes and I actually feel more comfortable on the 2t weirdly enough.

    • @Mockle07
      @Mockle07 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      MidWest MX I agree, I honestly don’t understand the need to have a favourite but people love to be tribal! I think if I spent a bit more time on the 2t bikes I’d love them too, especially for the sort of riding you do. I ride a lot of faster more open Hare & Hounds races (albeit at a novice level!) so the 4t bikes are pretty well suited.
      I’m off to try out the 250 & 300 2&4t Sherco range next week... that should be fun!

    • @MidWestMX
      @MidWestMX  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah the faster hate and hounds a 4t is better. Probably even an MX bike. See a lot of people using MX bikes for woods races. They hold up well. I do a lot of varied riding. Tough woods sections and slow stuff so the bottom end of the 2t is way better I find and less overheating

    • @Mockle07
      @Mockle07 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      MidWest MX Yeah loads of guys use MX bikes, depends how technical it gets and how good the rider is but it’s all good fun. 100% agree about the slow speed/technical stuff - 2t all the way.
