  • In this video we will be looking at doing a quick and easy modification to your model kit's chassis pan in order to align both front and rear wheels into the body's wheel arches.

I chose to completely replace the ancient chassis with AMT's 66 Ford Fairlane and all the underpinnings . This gave me way better detail and corrected the alignment in both the front and rear wheel arches. Some trimming on the front and rear of the 66 chassis was required. I also replaced the front rad core.

How did you get around the wider transmission tunnel on the 1966 Fairlane floor pan hitting into the narrower transmission tunnel of the Cobra interior?

The NASCAR wheel and tire look like the bigger fit issue, they are too big and wide for the fender openings.
I think your attempt to fit the wheels & tires and make chassis alignment different will cause a huge problem getting the rear bumper to fit. It's not possible to grind off 1/8 inch off the chassis pan without removing part of the fuel tank, and that may play even more havoc with the alignment of the bumper to body. The front bumper would need to be twisted backwards to close a gap up front.
Appreciate your attempt to inform the community about the problem, I have 2 of those '69 Torino kits unbuilt .... one 20 years old, the other is the most recent one. I might look at drilling new holes for the 2 axles, so front and rear bumpers will still fit, and hopefully the oil pan isn't in the way up front for that.

I didn't want to make a video about building this kit for a few years, but I think now that I started showing these fixes, that I will have to bump up that time frame and get going on it.

I think you are right,Trevor. I'll look again at mine👍😎.and make new hoses😉. One could relocate new pins for added strength👍looks like it still needs redrilling in the rear axle too. Are you finding the chassis won't fit in properly? I think the interior tunnel is fouling the chassis

Glad you liked the video Pete!
I didn't really notice a problem with the chassis fit when I was making this video, but then I wasn't looking in that area too much at the time.
You could be right that the rear axle hole needs redrilling, even with the front end being moved into the correct position.
However, I will have to get into a more detailed build of this kit to find all the issues. - Something to try in the future...maybe this summer?

You should have the glass and dash in when doing this.

    • @MonsterHobbiesModelCarGarage

Something to try in the future, although I don't think the glass and dash will effect this correction since moving the chassis pan is underneath the entire interior/glass arrangement.

Sorry but this is NOT working!I am just building this kit!If you do it this way the room for the engine moves back and the firewall hits the interior tub(makes it very difficult to install the dashboard!)!It much easier to file the holes in the direction you need to move the wheels! And another Problem with this chassis is that the left ride hight is to high in the front

    • @MonsterHobbiesModelCarGarage
      @MonsterHobbiesModelCarGarage  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

How does the firewall hit the interior tub? The firewall is molded in place.

    • @MonsterHobbiesModelCarGarage

I am curious to see how you are building this kit. - Did you glue the interior to the inner body or to the chassis pan? I am suggesting moving the body backwards on the chassis 1/8". The direction of travel should move everything backwards so that the rear package shelf would hang out of the back of the car if you glued the interior to the pan before moving the pan back. This is the AMT kit. Are you sure you're not building the Monogram one? I could see something like that possibly happening in the Monogram kit.

@@williwass6837 Not bashing your years of modeling experience...just trying to figure out why I am not having the same issue as you are (And some others as well). - Also, I asked about the Monogram kit because I have had someone in the past tell me I didn't know what I was doing, and then they told me all about a different kit entirely (like a Revell vs AMT) so I just wanted to double check to see if I wasn't running into that same scenario once again. IThank you for stating that I am not.
Anyway, your comment about the issue intrigued me, so I am uploading a new video here soon where I attempt to move the interior and make everything "Go out of whack" by moving the chassis pan back to it's true location and to it's original "Peg and Post" location. Anyway, if you wait and watch the video, you will soon see my attempts to slide the under-pan and make the interior move.
