Hey Ralph, just wanted to let you know that I checked it out and I am ordering my pinstripes from Keith Marks for my '67 442 model (that I'm making a replica of my car)& it's all thanks to your videos that gave me the info and inspired me to get that project going! thanks once again and I'm glad I watch these videos!
Dude, a girl invited me to make a model car with her, but I’ve never done this before. So I wanted to know some basics so I wouldn’t look stupid. This is the first video that came up and to think I was actually gonna do some of this stuff until I realized you were pulling my leg. She probably would’ve thrown me out if I tried any of this stuff 😂
Depending on her building experience and detail, you may have scored points for effort and just having a good time! All of us serious builders all did this stuff at the beginning so don’t worry about it. Build sessions are fun to just build and hang out and tell stories. Much like sitting at the camp fire and BSing!
This is good content, I would prefer to paint the parts, while they are on the tree mold. Maybe except for the body and parts associated with the body. As a modeler when I was very young, I had, and built many of these, not painting them, but building and applying the decals that came with the kits.
fun something different to watch . Just got a 55 chevy pickup off ebay the guy threw in just for fun I guess a 64 Impala body and a built/painted motor all good always need more random parts.
That’s part of the joke. Most started kits that I have bought from someone else has very little paint on it if any. The 67 Impala I just reviewed only has the body and wheels painted and it’s now 56 years old!
its always a pleasure seeing how a rookie does things - you should have titled the video "how NOT to do things" ....the mistakes you make are HORRIBLE ... get a subscription to a modelers magazine !! ... the price of a single issue is PRICELESS !! ... you get tips & tricks from a REAL professional !!
@@markhellman-pn3hn I don’t think you get the joke! You see that the page says “spoof” right above “How to: Start that model kit” anyways I did this for fun and made those rookie mistakes on purpose. Mostly making fun of myself and things we have all done at one time or another.
At first I was like wtf,but actually really funny, guess I'm a professional lol,I do alot of my kits like that, randomly start them,as a teen I built kits that didn't come out so good lol, again great video,I also jred to add that kit to my growing stash.
I want to start doing models. I'm older at 60 so I would do better with mid to large scale. Where would be the best places to shop online? I am looking for retro, old models, including 50's, 60's 70's and pop culture models like maybe Batman, Partridge Family type of stuff. Thank you.
Cool. The best place for selection and out of production kits is still eBay. However, you really have to read the auctions and look closely at the pics. It is not the best place as pricing goes as a buyer. Spotlight Hobbies and Model Round Up also get a lot of vintage kits. You may or may not like their prices for them as they are pretty much at a market price and eventually sell. They are not giving them away for quick sell.
Very funny how you did it that sloppy way!🤣🤣🤣Good that it one of the best fitting kits on the market and not an MPC or AMT kit of old!Love the way you mock yourself and most of us!Especially with the titel "advanced modellers"😂😋😘
Thanks 👍 I can make anything better. I walked into work the other day. One guys said. “You ready for this shit show” I said, “Now that I’m here it’s The Fecal Spectacular”
Wow you had me cringing behind the chair peeking to see more like a horror movie lol. Especially on such a beloved kit (My favorite car back in the day aside from the Hemi-Cuda). I've never done any of this in this fashion but it appears to be the beginnings of the Glue Bombs I find at swap meets and online. Great video! All this aside as long as you have fun and are happy in your building that's the most important thing. There's many ways to do things not just one as many commenters would have you believe. We need more people in the hobby and to take down the Ebay scalpers who are destroying the collectors community. Keep building have fun!
Great video from you Raoul for those beginning the model building hobby. Do you think your son will want to get into the hobby when he gets older? I caught the bug when I was younger after watching my dad build models.
I don’t know. On one hand it’s fun to sit together and do hobbies and talk. Sometimes even sing something. On the other hand…. I don’t want to share my models! LOL!
Thanks for a great video! Very helpful for someone like me, who is re-entering the hobby after a long time away. If I may please ask an unrelated question: a long time ago, didn't Revell (maybe Monogram) release a kit with three classic mustang models, one of which was white and 1/32 scale? Thank you!
Please note that this video was more of a joke. All of us model builder were new and did this stuff but many advanced builders cringe at the things I’m doing here. I was just poking fun at myself mostly. Also I know Monogram did a few Mustang trio pack kits. The only one I can think of with a smaller kit has a 66 Shelby GT350H, 70 Boss 429 and the small one 65 Shelby GT350.
Hey Ralph... very funny about the 3 bbl. joke..why don't you use it when building a 67 GTO!(that'll get those guys going...) And btw... good video! was a good inspirational one!) Might have to start on my 67 442!
Thanks for Sharing the video. Newbie here, Quick question when swaping out a 396 included in 1/25 '66 Impala kit (diy 4 door hardtop, gift for a friend as a memorial to her Dad - & their car) for the 66 Malibu 427, do I just swap out engine/trany or some of the other components as well. Thanks /Rosemary
Thanks. This video was more of a joke as we were all beginners once. On your question… This really depends on what the engine you are try to replicate really looks like. In stock form a 427 doesn’t really look different from a 396. So if there’s was stock looking you really don’t need to change anything. But if it was modified for racing then yes. The engine in the 66 Malibu is hopped up with some race parts so you could if you wanted to.
i recently got back into model car buildont at the age of 75- am now back retired from it again. i just threw out 100s of dollars of rustoleum and krylon paint. the rustoleum never drys and the cans quit spraying when still half full. the krylon sprays like a fire hose and have nothing but runs...and i am not paying 10 dollars a can for testors or tamiya paint..so sad..but to me the quality pf paints out there suck
With paint you get what you pay for and it’s getting more expensive. That goes for real car paint as well. When I painted my Chevelle 10 years ago. I spent $2600 for 2 gal of primer, 2 qt of sealer, 3 qt of paint and 1 gal of clear plus all the hardeners and thinners. Last year I bought just one gal of the same primer for a 64 VW bug. That plus hardener was 800 alone! Almost 3x what it was then! But Testor’s bottle paint was .99 then and now $2.79 for the same! Brush cleaner was 1.89 before covid and is now 5.99! I started using air brushes 30 years ago because I couldn’t get any good spray paints. The Tamiya spray paints are great. Testors have improved but still not to my liking. If you are staying with spray paint. Once you use a Tamiya can you will forget about the price difference. On real cars. I don’t buy the cheap stuff anymore. I have been using Shirwin Williams auto paint for years on my projects. I’ll tell you. I used the cheaper Dimension line and black used to be 80 a quart. I was told use the better quality Ultra 7000 line. That was 179 at the time for a quart. So I gave it a try and found that even though it was a little more than twice the price it sprayed better, dried faster and covered 3x the material!
wait a min..u had me until the end...why would you start another model without finishing the one at hand?. I'm an old school car modeler from the late 80s-90s..havent touched a kit in 25yrs, and im about to get back into it. I cant believe how expensive the paint, glue, and kits are now days. But i do know, i always finished my kit before moving on to the next. there is no reason to rush. thanks for the video tho, brought me back to the basics. been a few....
This was a spoof on what a bunch of us did with our first kits. The last part was my way of saying this is coming to be a swap meet or eBay kit. I don’t know how many kits I have seen that just the motor started. I did this video for fun and this is truly a parts kit. I want the interior for a Superbird build. This kit has the bench seat interior.
Directions? who needs those? 🤣🤣 How did you do this without cracking up the whole way? no way I could have been able to "professionally" narrate a video like this...
Hi, anyone knows if loctite super glue is good for plastic model kits? In my country tamiya and humbrol glue are too costly, but model kits are affordable.
I use super glue all the time. It's mandatory if you use resin or 3D printed parts. It works on plastic as well but just a few things to know. Use the least amount of glue possible. It will fog areas as it dry's (gasses out). Don't use it on clear parts and don't glue your finger to the door! I have done that too! I like to put masking tape on my workbench and put a drop of super glue on the tape. Two reasons for that. One is you can better control how much you use. The other is it sometimes will burp as you squeeze the tube. You don't want that splatter on your model. Then I take a toothpick and pick up a small amount of glue and apply it to the part I want to glue.
I’ve got a question, and I wanted to ask someone who’s been doing this for awhile, so I hope you don’t mind me bothering you for a little schooling. I’m recently retired and getting back into modeling between my honeydew list, so I’m learning all over again. I live in the south and we’ve gotten a LOT of rain here in the last week. So, now my question. The humidity is at least 70% right now and I’ve had some issues in the past with that. I don’t have a garage, basement, or a dedicated room, like you rich guys do, just kidding, no offense intended, for my building so I paint out in my shed. Sorry, now here’s my question. Do you think that if I primer and paint outside and immediately bring my body inside that the paint will come out alright? BTW. I paint with enamel rattle cans. I haven’t worked up to buying an airbrush system yet. And that brings up another question. I’ve listened to quite a few videos here and wondered if I could, would, maybe get better results from using an airbrush? I’ve only completed one model so far and had issues with the paint on it, from what I’ve understood was because the body was molded in red and I didn’t get enough primer on it. Thank you in advance for any ad all help you can give.
I’m sorry but I’m not much help on your issues. While I highly recommend an airbrush it does come with lots of learning and patience. Cleaning, set up, thinning the paint and overall technique will all have to be figured out and no two people will do all this the same. Environmental issues do play a role as well and that is what I have no real experience with humidity. I really don’t use spray paints. They were horrible 30 years ago when I got my first air brush. I know they have gotten better but once you learn an airbrush, you won’t go back. As for humidity, I live in the Phoenix AZ area and that’s something we lack here. Our problem is paint can dry to fast here!
Kinda reminds me of when I was a kid, and I would see if I could build it up before my parents put the groceries away ( " whaddaya mean, am I going to paint it?, who needs paint?" )
If you were a real professional you would know that you need to put a band-aid on the left thumb first! Because there is always one part that needs the extra hard trimming that slips.. and the band-aid keeps the blood from getting on the plastic. 🤣 LMAO! Loved it!!
I bought my first kit and never finished in 16 years, only rebuilding/customizing old kits.. here's my tutorial: 1. No instructions and if some model you got have better parts get them (wheels/tires, engines, etc)! 2. Paint it with markers (because you sprayed it 16 years ago and your paint looked like #@$%). 3. Glue your fingers, maybe get a little cut on them. 4. Swear a lot and ask why they make you build something like that? Stop working on that damn kit and start to mess with an already built kit (the guy who built may put wrong parts). 5. Guilt yourself for never finish that particular model that you bought years ago because you are older and your taste for cars changed. 6. Rebuild and finish an old kit to make a gift for your girlfriend but never finish any of your own models. 7. Once you stop to swear and think "i need to finish it someday" find another kits online and buy them. 8. Repeat.
Why did you waste your money on a sprue cutter if you aren't going to use it for it's intended purpose? A sprue cutter will give you nice clean separation from the sprue. Also, you shouldn't be so Blaise about the instructions. I can't believe you know where every part of every car goes. "Oh, wait, it's not on the chrome tree?". If he had looked at the instructions he would have known. Why not finish the kit? You must have a lot sitting around unfinished.
I have three spruce cutters. Did you notice this was a joke? It says spoof on the lead photo and in the video description. Also. This kit was really purchased for the interior to go into a Revell 70 Superbird. I was having some fun making this video and making fun of myself!
Why would you not leave parts of the tree attached to hold on to for ease of airbrushing? My 8yr old takes more care than this. My advice, snap tite for your skill level

Very cool. Enjoy the build!
really nice box art on the latest release of this kit IMO. Thanks also for the entertaining video!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks for taking my criticism for what it was meant -- Constructive Best wishes, Merrill
No problem. Thanks!
Loved this video. Especially when you pull out the other motor for a kit bash. Looking forward to seeing this built! Got a color choice yet?
Thanks!
That's cool girl I should have built a model kit I don't even know any female model builders....
This is good content, I would prefer to paint the parts, while they are on the tree mold. Maybe except for the body and parts associated with the body. As a modeler when I was very young, I had, and built many of these, not painting them, but building and applying the decals that came with the kits.
I hope you enjoyed this!
"Great to wipe your brush with" That cracked me up! Another great video!
Thanks! LOL!
fun something different to watch . Just got a 55 chevy pickup off ebay the guy threw in just for fun I guess a 64 Impala body and a built/painted motor all good always need more random parts.
I have had way to many eBay purchases that have been this way!
A good pair of model sprue cutters come in handy..
Really, how? LOL. Did you see them in the beginning but I never touch them after that!
well darn ,I dont have an exacto knife ,,,,would a fiskers or excell work untill i can get one ?
Maybe!
Dude, you're killing it! This is so true....
Thanks! I had fun doing this.
Working on the Gone fishing ram charger and bass boat currently.
Very cool. I like that Ramcharger but have not bought one to build. Enjoy it!
They have a Gone Fishing with a Ramcharger?? I missed that one! Mine is a 1980 Bronco ..
@TexJester-no8th yea mine is from the 90s
How come you don't paint the parts
That’s part of the joke. Most started kits that I have bought from someone else has very little paint on it if any. The 67 Impala I just reviewed only has the body and wheels painted and it’s now 56 years old!
white cars don't need paint
Oh man!!!! Rolling on the floor laughing 🤣🤣🤣🤣, Thanks for sharing!!! All so true!!!!!!
😁 Glad you had fun!
its always a pleasure seeing how a rookie does things - you should have titled the video "how NOT to do things" ....the mistakes you make are HORRIBLE ... get a subscription to a modelers magazine !! ... the price of a single issue is PRICELESS !! ... you get tips & tricks from a REAL professional !!
@@markhellman-pn3hn I don’t think you get the joke! You see that the page says “spoof” right above “How to: Start that model kit” anyways I did this for fun and made those rookie mistakes on purpose. Mostly making fun of myself and things we have all done at one time or another.
@@TheMuscleCarModeler yes, your right, i missed it
That was damn funny Raoul 😂
And yes I've bought many a model kit part started like that!.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Just goes to show, you can have a model in pre-assembly in about 15 minutes and ready for paint!
Yes! It can be done!
At first I was like wtf,but actually really funny, guess I'm a professional lol,I do alot of my kits like that, randomly start them,as a teen I built kits that didn't come out so good lol, again great video,I also jred to add that kit to my growing stash.
Glad you enjoyed it!
They are not giving them away for quick sell.
uy-yuy-yuy !! .... monthly magazines STILL exist !! ... start a subscription to "fine scale modeling"
@ that requires a reading skill.
Thanks! This was fun and I have a few of these unbuilt along with a few 71 Cuda. Love these.
first comment about beginnings of the Glue Bombs ... very disrespectful
I don't think he meant it that way. I did defiantly create a few glue bombs with my earliest builds though.
this may be a good tutorial for a very experienced modeler but for beginners a perusal of the instructions is a handy first step
Yes. I bet you commented as you were watching. How long before you realized it is a spoof?
Great video from you Raoul for those beginning the model building hobby. Do you think your son will want to get into the hobby when he gets older? I caught the bug when I was younger after watching my dad build models.
I don’t know. On one hand it’s fun to sit together and do hobbies and talk. Sometimes even sing something. On the other hand…. I don’t want to share my models! LOL!
what grit do I need to use to smooth out the paint and then put a gloss coat over it?????
Depending on how bad the texture is and how thick the paint is. I'll usually use 800. Maybe 600 but don't go over any body lines.
Thanks!
Do you paint by hand? If I use an air brush, should I paint the parts first?
I airbrush as much as possible then do the detail painting by hand.
Thanks
/Rosemary
Immediately dip your clear parts in a pool of Tamiya ultra thin. Because you know you are getting glue on your windshield.
I prefer to get glue on my hands and leave fingerprints all over the body and glass!
Funny! Awesome video and thanks for sharing! 👍😎😂
Glad you enjoyed it
i see you glue pieces on the out side u dont glue on both side and put it together?????????? is it the glue ?
Really only need glue on one side with super glue.
@@TheMuscleCarModeler so u use only TAMIYA glue thers 3 kinds do u use all 3 or just one
i recently got back into model car buildont at the age of 75- am now back retired from it again. i just threw out 100s of dollars of rustoleum and krylon paint. the rustoleum never drys and the cans quit spraying when still half full. the krylon sprays like a fire hose and have nothing but runs...and i am not paying 10 dollars a can for testors or tamiya paint..so sad..but to me the quality pf paints out there suck
So I gave it a try and found that even though it was a little more than twice the price it sprayed better, dried faster and covered 3x the material!
i got my 1967 corvette painted in 1975 with acrylic lacquer for 300 plus i got the paint at my napa store fot 50 dollars! @@TheMuscleCarModeler
wait a min..u had me until the end...why would you start another model without finishing the one at hand?.
You can remove that in the editing!
Do you need a glue and tool kit separately to build item?
No not really.
😆Fun !!
Thanks!
What kinda glue is that?
That is Tamiya Extra Thin Cement.
@TheMuscleCarModeler Is it better then super glue?
wonder if there is anyone selling after market engines for scale model cars
There are a few. Many 3D printed ones.
What is a 3 barrel set up?
A joke.
It’s like your 10 yrs old with a deep voice.
Sounds right!
There ya' go!
LOL
Kinda reminds me of when I was a kid, and I would see if I could build it up before my parents put the groceries away ( " whaddaya mean, am I going to paint it?, who needs paint?" )
Many of my first builds were done in one day.
If you were a real professional you would know that you need to put a band-aid on the left thumb first! Because there is always one part that needs the extra hard trimming that slips.. and the band-aid keeps the blood from getting on the plastic. 🤣 LMAO! Loved it!!
Good tip! Preemptive band aid! I'll save that for my next spoof!
@@TheMuscleCarModeler the other thing I've seen a lot is taking the glass out of the package, to make sure there wasn't any scratches on it. SMH

Why in such a rush?
Weren’t we all in a rush with our first kits!
Don't forget to wash kit in mild soapy water
LOL, you gave me an idea!
I think every builder has their own method of starting a build...
Yes we do! How we actually start or finish doesn’t really matter. It’s that we finish and have fun doing it!
I USED THIS AS A TUTORIAL 😂😂😂
Oops!
I almost followed this Guide but then i realized this was a joke bc im new to modeling
Good thing but many of us did these things to our first model kits!
ill just edit that out when nobody is looking
LOL. You will never know.
My hands shake too much . But i enjoyed watching
Glad you enjoyed it. My hands shake from time to time. It sucks.
I bought my first kit and never finished in 16 years, only rebuilding/customizing old kits.. here's my tutorial:
8. Repeat.
I have lots of ideas on a sequel and have filmed some of it! Need to finish it!
An’t that the Truth!
Lol

Yes!
I don't think so!
Yes, but this was a fun video to make! LOL!
