Great video. I was looking for the comparison on the iPad Air 4. Most comparisons between these two keyboards are done on the iPad Pro. There’s almost no difference but I still wanted to see it specifically on the iPad Air 4. Congratulations on the video. I decided on the Smart Keyboard Folio.

You make great points in this video. I have the smart keyboard folio even though I don’t think that much on the iPad. I’ve literally spilled coffee on it with no damage whatsoever. But it sure would be nice to have more traditional feeling keys. I don’t like the feels the smart folio. But the water resistant feature is a huge consideration for anyone.
For me the Magic Keyboard is FANTASTIC if you want to use your iPad as a laptop/MacBook replacement for the vast majority of the time, overall though it’s not an ideal choice if you are like me and are replacing both a MacBook/iPad into one single device. For me I would love to see the Magic Keyboards keyboard on the folio... the trackpad would be nice also but let’s be honest it’s not a need as it is a little gimmicky, the iPad is primarily a touch based device and introducing a trackpad sort of defeats the purpose... and essentially makes your iPad into a MacBook, but for less money you could just get a MacBook rather than a limited MacBook for a higher price.

Thank you for this video. I’m definitely looking for a keyboard that isn’t as bulky on my iPad but I can type when necessary in class. I also have a desktop so the tablet is just for on to the go reading and updating of notes and assignments. I will definitely consider the smart folio keyboard over the magic keyboard. 🙌🏽

You shouldn’t forget the Logitech Combi Keyboard. I bought mine for $142 on Amazon, and it is really great doesn’t have all the amenities of the magic keyboard, but very nice and at half the price,

When using either the Apple Magic Keyboard or Smart Keyboard with iPad Air 4, are you able to select Dvorak as the keyboard layout in the Keyboard settings? I've heard that it is possible to select Dvorak when using a hardware keyboard. Does this work for either of these keyboards? Obviously the keys are physically labelled for Qwerty, I'm only talking about functionality.
I’m thinking of switching to an iPad Pro or Air for my photo editing. I shoot portraits and headshots. I use Photoshop and Lightroom. I’m currently using an antiquated (but still chugging along) 21” desktop iMac with an elderly Wacom tablet for photo edits. I use a MacBook Air i3 as my laptop, and it does everything else, but throttles if I do anything intense. I mostly use the laptop for writing, as I’m also a professional copywriter. I do a lot of content consumption. And I take part time classes as a student. I need to read, write, edit photos and watch content. I want to pare down. I recently thought, “Would an iPad Pro just do everything I need? Could it?” Especially with the Apple Pencil and a Magic Keyboard, I feel like I could do everything. Photo edits & retouching, writing, reading and content consumption, etc. And after seeing the Apple keynote yesterday, and the new iPad....DROOL. Wow. Now I’m thinking of ditching my laptop and buying an iPad. Never really used one. Do you recommend?
From my experience I can’t recommend the folio case, I’ve had one one the iPad Pro 9.7 for 4-5 years and it stopped working about 2 years after I got it. I keep it on my iPad as a stand but the waterproof material started to peel to show the keys underneath. As much as the folio suits my needs, I’d be scared to buy another one for a new iPad thinking about it in the long term
Which one is better for keeping the iPad on your stomach while lying in bed, for watching movies? My first thought is the Magic one, because you can angle your iPad at 90 degrees or even less if you need it. But then it might just be too heavy to keep it on your stomach/belly for a long time, compared to the Smart one which is a lot lighter. Also, the Smart one can be propped up on a pillow if you want a better angle at your face.
Will the magic keyboard work if it is detached? I mainly use my iPad Air 4th Gen. to watch tv through the hdmi adapter made by Apple and hate that after a long day I have to get get up from bed to tap “continue watching” when my episode is over. Not sure if this or the magic track pad is better for what I’m looking for. I just bought an ipad air 2020 , and a keyboard folio dooverlacki to go with it , it appears the sales person has given me an earlier model or something by mistake :( , it does look similar to the one in the video without the track pad , however it seems to have 3 contact pins in the middle of the bit of channel running across it , unless i have got it arse about somehow ..... (always a possibility with my lack of techyness :) ) , but i do not think so on this occasion .. Rats , another trip to the store :( .
I guess if you have a pencil, neither of these address the issue of it getting knocked off :( Those grooves on the folio, are they magnetic, or does it just rest in them? Thanks!
I got my smart folio keyboard for my iPad Air today for $45 since it was the model for the previous iPad Pro generation. I’m glad it fits perfectly and that I got it at such a good price.

Very good review and productive one, I have the Smart Keyboard already, decided to get it after watching many comparison videos. yes I type on Ipad from time to time and use it as a tablet as well, that’s why I picked this one. No doubt the magic keyboard is brilliant, but the SK was the right choice for me (so far!!!!)

Why won't apple integrates some sort of touch bar on the bottoms of the ipad as function keys?
I have both but prefer magic keyboard its more sturdy and has a track pad.

Good comparison - I chose the Magic Keyboard for my iPad Pro. I will miss the hand held/fold back feature, but I can work around that.

it's not enough that the ipads are overpriced, they come with extremely overpriced keyboards as well....250$ for a cheap looking keyboard...wow
if you use your iPad primarily for typing documents, don't buy an iPad
if your on the road alot and need it for pictures and documents you need an ipad
