For first 3-4 days you'll enjoy the friction, you'll see your apple pencil nib getting flattened at tip, but after 4-5 days, the friction is gone from the writing area. Can clearly feel the difference now in middle of the screen and on the edges.. . So, yes usefull if you can buy 6 of these per month along with around 2 Apple pencil tips per month(₹400 each tip). Total: (₹1600x6) + (₹400x2) = Rs. 10400 per month..
yep I got the magic keyboard but I'm returning it and getting a smart folio instead. the trackpad does not work the way I expected either, not like a laptop. i find I'm way slower than usual. its way easier to navigate using touch and thats why it's easier ergonomically on the smart keyboard vs the magic keyboard.
I don’t care for track pads, and the water and dust resistance of the folio is a big deal for me. For my preferences, I choose the folio. The *only* thing I do like about the Magic Keyboard is that you can have the iPad charging via the magic keyboard while having the other port on the iPad itself for a peripheral. Perhaps if the Magic Keyboard had the water and dust resistance that the Folio has, I’d choose the Magic Keyboard. However, I do prefer to touch the screen and wonder if it’s going to move everytime I touch it because of the hinge. Also, trackpads always screw me up when I’m typing because my palm ends up touching the pad and making the cursor do things I don’t want. So, in the end, the Folio wins for my personal needs and preferences.
This comparison and the comments here are very valuable. I learned the the Magic keyboard is almost like a docking station. The Folio works better with the pen. I want to take notes with the pen. I might go with the Folio. I do like a clicky keyboard tho...
I’ve actually tried both and both are good, overall I prefer the magic keyboard but both keyboards have their pros and cons, what bothers me the most about the magic keyboard is that it cant go behind the iPad like the folio keyboard can which is annoying.
For the price of the magic keyboard i bought the smart folio and the Magic Trackpad, so i got the best of the two worlds: a bigger trackpad and a slim folio!!
Merman I wouldn‘t recommend that. They‘re awful and I‘ve experienced it myself. If you have a $400+ iPad, you should be able to afford a decent screen protector, if you want one at all.
For a pen user, the folio keyboard is better. I can write with my pencil, and instantly switch to typing when needed. Plus it’s cheaper. The only thing that would be missing is the trackpad… but, honestly, you can always use your fingers or the pencil to navigate and highlight. And, if you need to do heavy duty work that needs a trackpad, you can always use an external mouse, or just use a computer like everyone else
i bought the smart keyboard folio, and it’s a delight to use. Without adding too much heft i can type, since the screen is close enough,i don’t really miss the trackpad, i love taking notes using goodnotes and that couldn’t be done on the magic keyboard since it destroys the apple pencil. I dislike taking ipad outside everytime i have to use it as a tablet and this does the job well. The smart keyboard is also a joy to use on my lap(it’s not bulky after all)

My first thought is the Magic one, because you can angle your iPad at 90 degrees or even less if you need it. @@christianmorales4526 for something that is made in a 3rd world country by slave labor, only costing a few dollars to maybe even pennies to make, I say it is pure greed. Smart folio felt like they compromised the laptop experience too much, while the magic keyboard feels like they focused too much on the laptop experience.
the Goldilocks phenomenon...one bed is too hard and the other is too soft - get rid of the bed and free yourself! (er, that will take time and commitment)
Smart Keyboard is too crampy and sticky...Magic keyboard is to heavy and bulky....so I’ve decided to save money and buy neither and just enjoy the iPad for what it’s meant to be ...and use my MacBook if I need the typing experience
If we fold the Smart Keyboard Folio back to use the iPad as a regular tablet, does accidentally pressing on those keys get registered or is it smart enough to disable the keyboard, provided it can know when it’s folded back?
I bought the magic keyboard and damn im regretting my decision, it's literally so heavy and I feel like it was a waste of money. I literally cannot use my ipad like a tablet, since im an artist and the laptop set up is slightly uncomfortable for drawing. I got it because I thought it looked cool with my 12.9 inch ipad bc I thought it looked almost like my macbook, but damn the smart keyboard is 100 percent better.
Luban34 after a week of usage I really think it is a good laptop replacement. The keyboard is really portable and it feels great on my legs. However, if you plan on using the mouse, it’s better if your on a flat surface or at school. You should consider buying a bag to carry your accessories and your iPad.
Liam Poulin mgk appeals to me in appearance, but in fact I spend more time traveling and I like the folding function in folio. I hope it will be a good choice. thanks for the answer
When I look at the moving wallpaper in TH-cam videos it always looks like a glasses free 3D effect (that’s the best I can explain it) but in real life it just looks like a moving background.
Ghost227 it doesn’t matter. A simple operation like that should not require you to go through multiple pages in the settings. And honestly for little things like this, you’ll realize you change it more than you think just bc in all other instances it’s so intuitive, quick and painless. What other modern device makes changing brightness this cumbersome?
Not related but I finally got my Zens liberty wireless charger today. Thanks for being virtually the only review of it online, I bought it on your recommendation. Love it!
the huge fact that you can fold the folio keyboard back and have it as a stand for video watching with the keyboard out of the way is huge and not mentioned.
For me the Magic Keyboard is way better except the weight with the 12.9 version (heavier than the MacBook Air). I have the 11 version and it’s sooooo good. I can’t wait for the new 2024 iPad Pro 12.9 which is rumored thinner and lighter. If it’s true, I’ll buy it for sure.
Or you could say you are investing around a thousand dollars for a computer. Depending on what you are doing, iPad Pro with Magic Keyboard can be more capable and better suited. It isn't absurd if it is a better choice. What would Apple charge for a full integrated removable keyboard for a Mac? Around $300-$400?
AppleInsider to each their own, but to me it is absurd as well for what you get (don’t get). #1 $350 and no function keys? 👎🏽 and #2 The material of the cover, have you seen how worn and dirty looking the Smart Keyboard folio gets after about 1 year?? Nah.
AppleInsider I still think $300 or $350 is absured for a keyboard, I’d say $180 - $200 should have been the price, and they should have lowered the price of the smart keyboard folio to about $100.
AppleInsider the smart folio itself should only be at most $60 they could have made this 150. It simply isn’t worth the price. Especially not to be able to be used in drawing or Apple Pencil mode.
Lots of comparisons of the iPad Pro with Magic Keyboard versus MacBook Air and the Smart Keyboard Folio. How about a 2in1 comparison of iPad Pro with the Magic Keyboard versus the Surface Pro 7 and X and also versus 2in1s such as Lenovo Yoga line? That would be very informative for some.
Nice review, wish I'd seen it a week ago as I've just received the Magic keyboard but it's too heavy and doesn't fold back like the folio to use as regular ipad. Will be returning it to apple tomorrow.
I just picked it up and discovered the same thing. This makes me want to exchange for the folio as I like the ability to quickly flip it to tablet mode. Are you happy you exchanged?
Indigo Blue to use the Apple Pencil you will have to remove it form the keyboard almost every single time. It’s really easy to do but still annoying to remove it when you wanna use the Apple Pencil.
The fabric on my 11 inch iPad pro folio keyboard case started tearing so I took it all the way off. The keyboard is a little naked but other than that no harm no foul..
I already have the smart folio keyboard, do you think upgrading to the magic keyboard is worth it (assuming it costs about $200 additional after selling my current one)?
I’m considering the same thing. I purchased a wireless mouse which works pretty good but getting the magic keyboard will take it to the next level. Under no circumstances do i feel its worth 300 although I don’t think i will be able to resist
Depending on your use. I brought mines the first day it came out and I have not stopped typing with this keyboard really helpful when it comes to writing reports and sending out emails for work. I was hesitant in the beginning, but now I don’t regret buying this Magic Keyboard. You can always return it if you feel it’s not useful.
eyecandy gaming For about 6 months after the release of the 2018 iPad Pro, it was the ONLY keyboard case that was available; there were no third-party Bluetooth case options yet.
I have the Magic Keyboard for my 2020 iPad Pro 12.9. Really want to buy the white one. But really can't stand the weight. Today I couldn't resist getting this really pretty apple sales advisor for help. Bought the folio one and a bi-hole charger. Even though broke my bank account but i really couldn't resist. She is so pretty.
I feel like if I’m gonna do a ton of typing ill just hop on the computer. I’m saying this as i type on the smart folio keyboard on the 11 inch iPad... and yes it is cramped and no it’s not worth the money so buy used.
Magic Keyboard would be the perfect product if it would just fold. It’s essentially unusable with Apple Pencil because you can’t lay the iPad flat (or close to flat).
Ok but also, what’s the battery life like with one of these? My boss gave me a brand new apple keyboard case thing that he got by mistake for the wrong model but it fit my 12.9 inch pro and in curious if it’s draining my iPad battery life or not.
Smart Keyboard wins for me because it’s more of a iPad experience. Light weight can leave Smart key board case on while u go tablet mode then switch to Keyboard mode very quickly I just find it amazing. I hate the fact on The magic keyboard you have to take it of key board to go tablet mode and I’m a person who uses a tablet with protection always on it so taking tablet of tablet of magic key board putting it in another case in and out would annoy me
I have an iPad Pro 12.9.. idk which gen it is but it is the one that you have connected to the smart folio, do you know if there is a magic keyboard for my iPad? Or is it only offered to the newest iPad?
My Smart Keyboard folio suddenly wont connect anymore and sometimes after leaving it in type position for 3 hours or more the keyboard will suddenly work but it’ll be quite laggy for 30 minutes. And no the times are not exaggerations. Many others are also having this accessory is not supported issue with the Smart Keyboard folio, it sucks that this is what I paid so much money for.
A ton of people suffer same thing with ya including myself. You really want to consider it's durability if you want to get the folio. THESE TECH guys don't even understand our pain because they just get a new device to use every day unlike us like regular users want to use them for years.
Oh no! I just bought mine the other day and waiting to receive it. Might return it if it won't last long... how long did yours last and how often did you use it?
Sophia Thai I used it as my daily device as I was student and journalists. It began to stop working just after 12months when apple insurable time was over. I had no damage whatsoever. I looked up in youtube and google and found out it wasn’t just my problem but very common for many folio users since the material of the keyboard is not durable. Some people had isse just after couple of months so, I believe it is just matter of time for all of the users..
vanillo Disagree completely, I much prefer the inverted T keys, as I’m a programmer, and I hated the arrow key layout on the butterfly keyboard and smart keyboards.
Recently I bought the Magic Keyboard and I liked it but it’s not functional for me. I’m more of a pencil girl so I think I will exchange or maybe return.
Well at least if you drop your coffee on the keyboard. No worries. It would only cost you $350 for another keyboard. Unlike dropping coffee or water on a MacBook Pro. That will cost you $1,299. And with the iPad Pro one could still use the tablet despite the water damage to the keyboard.
That's actually false on the folio being resistance to water or liquids. I have the case and honey was dropped on it. I wiped the surface clean but some went in and now the keys are hard to press. I assume I'll have to keep wetting the area until it slowly reduces. It usually softens to touch when I wipe it with a wet cloth. So please don't listen to that statement at 2.40 onwards regarding this.
Honey is a viscous fluid, almost non-Newtonian. I could see how honey would get in there and cause some issues. Id try using a wet cloth and gently rub, working the liquid in to disperse the honey.
I did like it. I give it a solid C. You were speaking much too fast for what you were trying to do: give the viewer information to help with a decision. It’s impossible to absorb the differences as you were saying them. Maybe a graphic chart would help. Often your words didn’t match what you were showing us on screen. But you clearly had the info, but must work on pace and differentiation.
It’s pretty durable, but I have had mine for about 2 years now and the outer material is starting to come up on the corners from sliding it in and out of my backpack. It looks rough. I wish they had considered a better material.

@@christianmorales4526 for something that is made in a 3rd world country by slave labor, only costing a few dollars to maybe even pennies to make, I say it is pure greed. Apple is the reason why companies have raised the prices on their products. Yet there is morons out there defending the horrible quality of these products.
kkk u guys cant get an expensive laptop then ???
I mean can not cant
@@_Romans10.9_ (Chinese voice) you no like? You no buy!.. there are aftermarket stuff you can go and buy. Capitalism where everyone can thrive. Apple has there people that have money and will buy it. Logitic has there own
Let’s put it this way, which ever one allows you to transform it into tablet mode, is the true winner. Just saying.
Does anyone with the 11” iPad Pro feel like it’s too cramped with the magic keyboard? I feel like it might be too hard to type on
I've tested it, in comparison to the 12.9" too cramped.
It is cramped even in comparison to the 11" Smart Keyboard Folio.
I just got the magic keyboard. While the keyboard is great, I really don’t like that I cant use my iPad as a tablet, so I may end up returning this.
I was thinking about getting the magic keyboard and then I was like but I’d have to take it off every time I want to use it with my Apple pencil and without the case. Seems really annoying.
And is it possible with the Folio?
you can literally just remove ur ipad from the case and use it in a tablet form....
@@pidge8964 I know I returned it but I prefer to have some protection on my iPad and don’t want to carry the magic keyboard around separately. I got the folio instead. The magic keyboard is basically a doc.
@@randomdude1053 have you been happy with the smart folio? Does it provide decent protection?
it's really the high price tag that stopped me from getting the Magic Keyboard, an 11' iPad Pro + Magic Keyboard would cost around $1,100
I feel more informed, as to which iPad Pro keyboard to choose; thank you.
which one is better
Just received it and instantly regret. Folio is much better
I bought one used. Worth it for 150?
Smart folio felt like they compromised the laptop experience too much, while the magic keyboard feels like they focused too much on the laptop experience.
the Goldilocks phenomenon...one bed is too hard and the other is too soft - get rid of the bed and free yourself! (er, that will take time and commitment)
Jabulani Harvey ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
Antonio Zamudio I chose ipad over laptop for the touchable experience, and smart folio works really well for that purpose.
The keyboard gets disabled so no accidental presses
I bought the magic keyboard and damn im regretting my decision, it's literally so heavy and I feel like it was a waste of money. I literally cannot use my ipad like a tablet, since im an artist and the laptop set up is slightly uncomfortable for drawing. I got it because I thought it looked cool with my 12.9 inch ipad bc I thought it looked almost like my macbook, but damn the smart keyboard is 100 percent better.
i believe the usb c port on the keyboard cannot be used for anything but charging. it will not accept dongles.
Confirmed that the second generation folio keyboard has a darker outlook, stiffer construction and better portability over the magic keyboard.
Why get one with a touchpad when the iPad screen is touchable?
Ryan Coulter for people who like keyboards
My combo is the folio with the Magic Mouse 2
PerfectSuperSaiyan using the same thing !
You’re happy of using this? Im confiused and ordered folio + mm2 but still thinking about magic key...
Luban34 after a week of usage I really think it is a good laptop replacement. The keyboard is really portable and it feels great on my legs. However, if you plan on using the mouse, it’s better if your on a flat surface or at school. You should consider buying a bag to carry your
accessories and your iPad.
Liam Poulin mgk appeals to me in appearance, but in fact I spend more time traveling and I like the folding function in folio. I hope it will be a good choice. thanks for the answer
I have the same set up, I love it and feel it’s useful for what I do, but I keep considering the magic key board.
When I look at the moving wallpaper in TH-cam videos it always looks like a glasses free 3D effect (that’s the best I can explain it) but in real life it just looks like a moving background.
Will the color finish on magic keyboard will washed out especially at the area where we rest our palm?
Can't you use the smart keyboard in a tent orientation like we used to do back in the day with folios? That way there will be no keyboard in the way?
Is the magic 1.5 pounds heavier?
Just got myself the Logitech combo keyboard and I couldn’t be happier!!
Can the Magic keyboard be charged via the USB - C port, or is it the Apple type? Can the battery be replaced? Thank you
I can’t believe there’s not AT LEAST dedicated keys for brightness.
why would it? its automatic and/or could be adjusted manually. you are only gonna need it for a hour or so tops at night.
Seriously. How many people adjust their brightness multiple times a day?
That’s what I thought so at first but now that I have the magic keyboard, I don’t know how they would’ve added another row. It’s super tight as is.
Taka Iguchi a function key to alter the number keys would’ve done the trick
Paying over $300 for a keyboard is just absurd. I’d rather put that towards a new MacBook Air. The iPad as a computer concept is just not there yet.
Max H. Agreed
I sent it back and bought a flip case without a keyboard. A friend of mine has the folio keyboard and is pleased with it.
A very expensive keyboard for a tablet which doesnt even allow users to use it as a tablet....
What?It allows users to use it as a tablet? I mean you can still swipe and use the pencil?
Indigo Blue to use the Apple Pencil you will have to remove it form the keyboard almost every single time. It’s really easy to do but still annoying to remove it when you wanna use the Apple Pencil.
It's a Hybrid
No. Just get a Magic Mouse 2 and pair it.
I’m considering the same thing...it’s a hard decision!
Can you use the folio on your lap?
Magic keyboard is easier to use when using in bed as well, and more stable in IMO.
Great video! Helped me decide which one I should get. Much appreciated and Happy Holidays, AI!
Do they both act as a case too?
Yeah, but the smart keyboard folio has known reliability issues after 2 - 3 years of use, occasionally as early as 6 months.
Cameron Bosch I don’t like folio. Typing on it is just weird
So why would your reward the company with your money with there newer untested keyboard when they put out such crap the first time?
eyecandy gaming For about 6 months after the release of the 2018 iPad Pro, it was the ONLY keyboard case that was available; there were no third-party Bluetooth case options yet.
@@cameronbosch1213 got ya
I have the Magic Keyboard for my 2020 iPad Pro 12.9. Really want to buy the white one. But really can't stand the weight. Today I couldn't resist getting this really pretty apple sales advisor for help. Bought the folio one and a bi-hole charger. Even though broke my bank account but i really couldn't resist. She is so pretty.
It's much lighter. And I do miss the trackpad.
I feel like if I’m gonna do a ton of typing ill just hop on the computer. I’m saying this as i type on the smart folio keyboard on the 11 inch iPad... and yes it is cramped and no it’s not worth the money so buy used.
The magic keyboard completely defeats the purpose of the ipad having a pencil.
Why?
Some people use it differently
@@joviangrace Only normal way to use the apple pencil is to take out the iPad from the case.
not necessarily. the pencil transforms the ipad into a drawing tablet. you can't expect to draw nearly as well with the trackpad.
No dude....it does it even better than the folio since u can remove it so easily to use it as a tablet
I just love the floating design on the Magic
Magic Keyboard would be the perfect product if it would just fold. It’s essentially unusable with Apple Pencil because you can’t lay the iPad flat (or close to flat).
Ok but also, what’s the battery life like with one of these? My boss gave me a brand new apple keyboard case thing that he got by mistake for the wrong model but it fit my 12.9 inch pro and in curious if it’s draining my iPad battery life or not.
Can I use my new iPad Air three with this or is that not possible?
Smart Keyboard wins for me because it’s more of a iPad experience. Light weight can leave Smart key board case on while u go tablet mode then switch to Keyboard mode very quickly I just find it amazing. I hate the fact on The magic keyboard you have to take it of key board to go tablet mode and I’m a person who uses a tablet with protection always on it so taking tablet of tablet of magic key board putting it in another case in and out would annoy me
Does the folio need to be charged?
I have an iPad Pro 12.9.. idk which gen it is but it is the one that you have connected to the smart folio, do you know if there is a magic keyboard for my iPad? Or is it only offered to the newest iPad?
Im getting a iMac w/ mtp2 which keyboard should I get for my iPad Pro
Kind of wish they would have just put normal keys on the folio and more positions.
JK Production ikr! They don’t really think about the long run unlike us
Sophia Thai mine lasted for 2 years coincidently after the warranty. And I used it a lot
why would you compared apple's keyboard to the logitech one WITHOUT the track pad?
Can u play games with it can u controll the controll with the keyboard?
I have the logitech; and going to this keyboard would be a back step since I’d lose a row of function keys. Nice design though.
what's your apple watch strap?
Am I the only one who still thinks the folio looks better? I also don't like the new "inverted T" arrow keys, they look out of place imo.
vanillo I love the folio and it’s makes way more sense. If the Magic Trackpad flattened out then maybe.
vanillo Disagree completely, I much prefer the inverted T keys, as I’m a programmer, and I hated the arrow key layout on the butterfly keyboard and smart keyboards.
The inverted t looks ridiculous. I hope they don’t change the smart folio
I'm with u.
If u fold the smart folio keyboard is the keyboard still active if u accidentally click it?
no
i would prefer the smart folio keyboard since there are more angels to pose your IPad in, and its also water resistant .
The price is why I’ll go with the Smart Keyboard.
Recently I bought the Magic Keyboard and I liked it but it’s not functional for me. I’m more of a pencil girl so I think I will exchange or maybe return.
Is the magic keyboard better than Logitech now that it is $200
Well at least if you drop your coffee on the keyboard.
It’s a glass trackpad? Other outlets are saying it’s plastic.
What is the weather widget called that you have
21,831 unread emails? I die when I have more than 10 unread. What the hell?
I mean, he is a TH-camr that probably gets thousands of emails a day
I did like it. I give it a solid C. You were speaking much too fast for what you were trying to do: give the viewer information to help with a decision. It’s impossible to absorb the differences as you were saying them. Maybe a graphic chart would help. Often your words didn’t match what you were showing us on screen. But you clearly had the info, but must work on pace and differentiation.
how durable is the fabric keyboard?
It’s pretty durable, but I have had mine for about 2 years now and the outer material is starting to come up on the corners from sliding it in and out of my backpack. It looks rough. I wish they had considered a better material.
Excellent video but just a tip for you...you need to check you emails! you're like 20k emails behind! lol
Very informative thank you 👍🏻
I really like magic keyboard but i'm going to buy smart folio for it's low cost 😕
Niama, paper like introduction more than one minute
Thanks
I have the smart one because t he magic one is too expensive 😕
Cool. For around 1K you can can have an Apple 2 in 1 laptop.
I want a tablet not a laptop like. So the folio works better
Very informitive
