- Wow! What a difference a couple weeks makes, from negative 58 to positive 30! Springtime in February on the Homestead... Already??? This week we get back to work on the master bathroom and the plumbing, we also head outside in the 20 to 30 degree weather to clear off the RV, and have a little fun. Lastly, we say goodbye to our sweet pup Otterpop and thank him for being a loyal and loving companion for 12 years.

Sorry for your loss. We have 3 labs and have always had dogs. Always sad but you said it well Ryan. It’s all a part of life and owning dogs. Crazy weather here in Maine too. Not that I’d ever compare anyone’s weather with what you deal with in Tok ! lol. But even Mn Wi and other northern border states seeing such crazy weather ! May I make a suggestion, plumber by trade, you may want to add a 2” trap directly under the shower. Each plumbing fixture, shower, lav sink, kitchen sink, should be trapped to insure no waste gas order from your septic system, nice job!
Also in construction here. This plumber is spot on. Those septic gasses are rank smelling. You don't want those in your house.
Yes, always put a trap in those locations or regret it later...

So so sorry for your loss of your fur baby. Second time this week tears have welled up in my eyes hearing sad news like this. 1st Bo from SLA and now your Otter Pop😢😔. Thank you for sharing your life. Love your channel. For one you should have put in an old system not like the newer systems it should run your gray water separate from your sewage does everything that goes in the gray water kills the bugs in the sewage detergent and all the stuff you wash off your hands the old ways you have a grease pit then you have your Gray water lines which I did a seepage pit that's like a 45 gallon barrel with holes in it and then rocks round the outside of the barrel the only thing that goes into my sewage field is sewage I don't even put toilet paper down my toilet toilet paper goes into a garbage can it gets burnt or goes to the garbage I have not had my sewage tank pumped in 20 years I did this way yeah it's not passed but I didn't care I put it in the same way my dad's house was You sinks they have a little device that you stick on a black pipe that has a ball in it that lets the gas out and those smell really I had no smell in my RV bus and that's all I did I didn't put events through my roof of my bus and never had any problems with it and my kitchen sink has one on it yeah I got a three inch air vent going up through my roof for the bathtub and the bathroom sink and the kitchen sinks in it but I was having problems with the kitchen sink bubbling up into the bathtub still even with the 3 inch vent so I put a ball thing on the pipe i'd forget what they're called
You did good by getting a fiberglass most fiberglass RV's have metal studs
You should've got the trap with a drain plug on the bottom of it you'd be kicking yourself for not getting one

So close for you to have your bathroom. Our weather is going to be doing crazy things this week, going to drop 30 ° and then come back up. It is still so sad losing a fur baby. That is why your other dog wanted to be around you, because he is at a loss also 😢. Just like Simple Living Alaska lost their fur baby this week 😢.
Yes, he has been really sticking close to us. He was able to say goodbye to his lifelong friend before we buried him. 😢
Bathroom plumbing is 2” going to 1 1/2 to 1 1/4, now kitchen sink is 2” x 1 1/2 “

What part of Alaska u in? and also, how does it work with having dogs in Alaska because most people take their dogs out to use the bathroom but when it gets like 40 below zero?
We live in the interior of Alaska. Dogs do great here. When it’s 40 and 50 below they run outside take care of business and want back in right away.

Your home is looking great. Sorry for your family loss. We have a yelliw lab who will be 11 he is my lifeline i have ptsd from the military. Dogs are loyal and dedicated and always loves you caring and loving. Maybe people should act like a dog it would be a better world. Its like losing a family member if you dont look at them as just being an animal. My dog is my friend and my emotional protector.
We’ve lost three dogs over the years and each one hurt.

I love the walking around the trails near your other 50 acres. I was up in Fairbanks a few weeks for that crazy cold snap up there and I loved the deep snow like that in the trees. Words or pictures don't describe that view you see there...

ya with copper stub out I would put valves for off and on before sheet rock just have to have them in place because you have heat soder them on but that is just what i would do
Valves are compression fitted not sweat.
So guys I had thought about that new 50 acres you got if take trees out and make a meadow and set up some blinds and let deer and moose and bear all that come eat the grass and other stuff that might grow that they eat it might a prime hunting spot for you guys so it just a thought is all
Hey Wade, that’s a good thought but we have millions of acres to hunt and the animals here in Alaska aren’t really able to be hunted in that manner.

Do you need to put a level on your plumbing pipes to check for slope?
I’ve seen plumbers that know what they’re doing, use a level. Proper slope is a quarter bubble. I choose the slow way by measuring to make sure I have 1/4” per ft slope.

My husband an MEP engineer with nearly 50 years in commercial, industrial, government and high end residential says to use a Studor vent (Amazon) for your sinks...you won't have to vent to the roof. Use a wet line for your shower and toilet line .

I was watching earlier this week and Eric and Ariel’s dog, Bo, also passed away. Thank you for sharing. Your place is going to be amazing. Weather has been crazy above normal here. It’s hard to go from -58 to warmer temps…nah not really!😂
