    Schön gemacht. Ich besitze auch ein gary fisher taikai von 1998.
    Habe es gebraucht erstanden und schaltungs technisch neu aufgebaut. Als Kurbel habe ich die shimano deore 1:12fach genommen. Hinten werde ich eine deore 11fach Schaltwerk mit dazu passendem Schalthebel verwenden. Auch eine shimano 11fach Kassette wird ihren Platz auf der deore 9fach Nabe finden.
    Als Kette kommt eine von shimano zum Einsatz. Gary fisher
    Dchte damals schon weit voraus.
    Das sieht man z.b. Am hinterbau, wo auch breitere Reifen passen.
    Eine federgabel besitzt mein taikai nicht, sondern eine starrgabel. Die cantilever bremsen sind von der alivio und sind noch gut erhalten. Putzen, fetten und wieder einbauen, das war es schon. Ein paar neue bremsgriffe werde ich dem bike noch gönnen, ebenso ein paar neue Griffe, da die alten nix mehr waren. Hab gesehen, das dein Rahmen ein 7005er alu ist. Meiner ist schon aus 6061er alu, also leichter. Auch hat meines schon auswechselbare schaltauge, während deines noch ein festes hat. Von der Geometrie her sind sie ähnlich. Ich wundere mich, warum du keine modernere federgabel verbaut hast, für die alte bekommt man eigentlich keine Ersatzteile mehr, oder?

    Love that first Gen RockShox! They were heavy and sticky but for '88-90 they started it all. I would love to see a rebuild segment when you get your seals,, etc.. Solid sanding/polishing technique to keep graining short and not long, the finished product with stickers is impressive. I think you break a Guinness Record every time you put on tires🤣! Yeah, go with thumb shifters and keep that Biopace alive! 👍😎💯

    Ahh, a fellow a-Fisher-nado! Tasty bike! I’ve managed to score 2 Joshua A1’s, I think one will be mostly original, and then do a sensible upgraded version on the other, maybe go disc brake, and do a killer 2 tone fluro 90’s paint job!

    • @MonkeyShred
      @MonkeyShred  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Two tone fluro definitely has my vote.

    I have this bike in green. The fork is not original (b/c I got hit by a car in like '91, the original bike didn't come with suspension.) and the front chainring was ground out so replaced that and put bigger pedals on it, but everything else is original. I LOVE this bike. It is built like a tank and it's simple/straight forward. I do want to put a new stem and handlebars on it so I can ride it around town.

    • @MonkeyShred
      @MonkeyShred  ปีที่แล้ว +1

    You've given me inspiration to sand and polish my Dad's 1996 Claud Butler Competition bare alu frame. If you have any tips to remove alu corrosion, that would be appreciated.

    • @MonkeyShred
      @MonkeyShred  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Patience. Lots of patience.
      It’s not actually too bad to do. Heavy spots of corrosion will be a bit more stubborn to remove but working through the sanding grades will remove it. Start with 400 grit so it’s not too aggressive and see how that goes. Work up to 1500/2000 grit and then polish. All wet sanded. No dry sanding. Try and keep the sand paper ‘clean’ and it sometimes helps to add a drop of washing up liquid to the water bowl your using to soak the paper in.
