+Blah Playhard Led Zeppelin was horrible live. This is a much better live rendition than any live performance by Led Zeppelin. You should check out Led Zeppelin's live versions of rock and roll. Slow, low energy; Plant doesn't hit any of the high notes; Page is slow, and Bonham is flat. JPJ is the only one decent live. I was a Led Zeppelin's fan based on their studio recordings, but because they are so awful live, over the years, I felt that they were really not good musicians. They were good recording artists. Their few live album, the Song Remains the Same has to be one of the worst live albums of all time, if not the worst live album of all time. Around the same time, Deep Purple was putting out Live In Japan ... now that's a great live album.
Joe Johnston You Sir are a fucking idiot. The 4 members of Zeppelin were great musicians. Not many drummers were better than Bonzo. John Paul Jones could play anything. Plant had an awesome voice and Page is a guitar god. And they were great live. IMO they are the best band to ever grace this planet!
Mmmm...yes and no (agree and disagree)....e.g. the difference between LZ 'Live at Albert Hall 1970' and 'The Song Remains the Same 1973' are marked. The first has life, incredible energy, and rawness to it. The second is bloated and boring, a band that could still kick ass but looks and sounds bored at times, choosing to shine at certain points and but coast through others. I've read others make the point that LZ was more of a studio band, and after this much time, I'm inclined to agree. It's not that they couldn't 'bring it' live, it's just seems to me that they're best was saved for the albums, esp in the second half of their career.
Arthur Bishop mmmmm. No and No (100% incorrect and 100% incorrect). 1. You said "Led Zeppelin are horrible live" then claimed you thought the performance at the Royal Albert Hall had "life, incredible energy and rawness" so that makes your first statement invalid. 2. Listening to the bootlegs I've got possession of from the 73 tour shows me that they have incredible energy, more creative, more refined and less raw and an aura envied by the other rock bands of the era. The 75 tour bootlegs I own show Jones got even better, Bonham was less technical but packed more punch, Page and Plant had lost their talents for certain gigs due to an excessive Rock n Rock lifestyle but other gigs showed they could still do it with enough cocaine in the system. The 77 tour showed they were not the fresh technically gifted talents they were in the early days and some shows were poor, again due to the rock and roll lifestyle but still gave powerful performances that hit to the core and carried the same aura that drew hundreds of thousands to see them on the tour, some say the 77 gigs are their personal favourites. The gigs of 1980 showed they had toned down considerably and had gone back to basics as the life of excess had caught up with them. Do not forget they were doing 3 hour + shows for the gigs of the 70's, they played every concert with such energy and never held back, so no there was no boredom, the boredom only started to show at knebworth in 79, Pages heroin addiction, Bonhams drinking coupled with loneliness, the death of Plants son. The O2 gig in 2007 was a brilliant gig also. Having said all of that they have been bootlegged more than any other band so the evidence of their god like and at times human attributes will always be here for our listening pleasure, my personal favourites are the 75 gigs because they are the longest. Amazing studio recordings and for the most part the best live band to ever hit the ears. Finally, this performance of rock n roll is not better than ANY of Zeppelins live performances, including the infamous Kashmir blunder, this sounds like cheesy advert music.
I find it kinda strange yet cool that here he's playing w/ Eddie Van Halen, he was officially announced as VH's new singer shortly after this performance. Sammy was the one that was booked for Farm Aid, he had EVH come out to do this as a encore type last song jam. So, he and EVH are playing a zep jam. And now, Sammy is playing w/ Jason Bonham (for those that don't know, son of John, the drummer of Zep.) w/ his new band "The Circle". I just thought it's kinda cool and strange.
Thanks for following my page, thank you for the support and love ❤️ I really appreciate you 🥰 I’ll love to honor you by dropping me your personal information for a private conversation if that’s ok by you...❤️
I was so excited that Sammy joined VH after Dave left. I could not wait to hear what they were going to sound like, I was fan of both VH and Sammy. 6 months after this, we got the album 5150, one of their best with Sammy at vocal. Too bad the magic didn't last. Ed and Alex have their version of what happened, but Sammy's book sounds like the real version.
@Therin Chilnsford Cuz anytime someone compliments Sammy, someone always has to bring up DLR and how good of a front man he was. Really got old after awhile. They're both great tho.
The amazing Eddie , the crazy , unexplainable , thing about him is his ability to jump in and out of that song with that style he's created and it's melodic and it seems as if it's just to easy. They only come around so often , I'm glad it was in my lifetime. EVH-R.I.P.
Glad to see this video. I was there. My friends and I got kicked out for smoking pot 20 minutes before Van Halen came on. We went outside and bought new tickets from scalpers for $2 each What a great night!
This concert aired 4 days after I bought my first guitar, and I almost put it down after watching Edward fly through this. I'm glad I continued playing. Edward, you and Jimi made me want to pick up the instrument in the first place!
I was there!!! My friends & I were on the field, about 25 yards from the stage. Great show, and seeing Eddie & Sammy jam together live in public for one of the first times was awesome. I remember the camera even caught Valerie who was back in the wings smiling, and when they showed her on the big screen everyone went “hey, look!” and cheered. Epic day of fantastic music. Still have the ticket stub and a whole lotta memories.
@@ivolas247 How cool is that! In the 90s I worked at a guitar store. Dean must have quit making these for a while because we were selling Washburn brand guitars and they had the official Dimebag Darell guitar that looked almost like the ML. Similar crazy looking headstock. It was wild man. Action wasn’t that great but I’m sure it could have been set up better by someone with skills.
Eddie and Sammy were a classic bromance. Eddie was finally able to be himself, and he couldn't keep the smile off his face with Sammy around (until much later). This raw version of Rock and Roll is great.
I don't think that any new or current bands could hang with these guys. Man this was great, Eddie was always fun to watch. Never a dull or boring moment when he had a guitar in his hands. 🚬🎸

bo Zep That's because Edward was playing it! He's mentioned many times in interview that the Kramer was too bright and never used in a recording environment.
Alex Van Hagar, when I say it is his best sounding guitar I am comparing it to other guitars HE played... and second, young grass hoppaw, you need to read your Van Halen trivia. He used that guitar for most of the 1984 record, most of the 5150 record, most of ou812 record and and one song in the FUCK album. Read guitar world from march 2016. So, that guitar was used in the studio extensively...
bo Zep sorry...my mistake i should've known better. The only song he ever used to record with the 5150 Kramer was Judgement Day but it was only for preproduction. He never recorded with that Kramer. If you own the VH Encyclopedia written by my friend CJ Chilvers and flip to page 84 (if i remember correctly)
Alex Van Hagar, check it out. The interviewer asked what guitar he used to record 1984. Here is Eddie's exact reply: Was the Frankenstein still your main guitar in the studio on that album? I had actually retired the Frankenstein by then. I’m pretty sure I used the Kramer 5150 guitar the most on that album-“Panama,” “Girl Gone Bad,” “House of Pain,” the solos on “Jump” and “I’ll Wait.”
Great stuff. What this audio doesn’t capture is the crowd absolutely going bananas as soon it recognizes Eddie coming on stage - that’s what remember from the live feed
They seemed quite happy together, and Sammy has the most wonderful smile as he moves away from Eddie after the solo, reacting just like a fan in the crowd.
Yep. In that order too. We had other masters that may have surpassed those guys eventually, but they are the first faces on the Mount Rushmore of guitar heroes.
I remember staying up late to watch this on Farm Aid. Sammy was doing a lot of cussin' on live TV. When they got to the guitar solo at the end (instead of Led Zep's drum solo), we thought that was so cool. Then the announcer did a cutaway in the middle of it to earlier in the day to hear Merle Haggard singing Okie from Muskogee. We went nuts.
Michael Allen I remembered rumour was circling that Sammy will be joining VH and after witnessing this clip at the time i knew the mighty VH will be back assaulting with a vengeance! 👊
Eddie always walked the tightrope... the end of the solo - you think he's farked up the timing but no, he absolutely nails it and it's spot on perfect. Incredible. Never has there been a player with his sense of swing and rhythm.

Joe Johnston you're saying that to annoy people, I won't bite
The smile on Eddys face priceless
2017 Toro Rosso, you have good taste
I find it kinda strange yet cool that here he's playing w/ Eddie Van Halen, he was officially announced as VH's new singer shortly after this performance. Sammy was the one that was booked for Farm Aid, he had EVH come out to do this as a encore type last song jam. So, he and EVH are playing a zep jam. And now, Sammy is playing w/ Jason Bonham (for those that don't know, son of John, the drummer of Zep.) w/ his new band "The Circle". I just thought it's kinda cool and strange.
That simply gorgeous grin on Eddie's face....lovin every minute of it....love EVH...🙏❤️🎸
Thanks for following my page, thank you for the support and love ❤️ I really appreciate you 🥰 I’ll love to honor you by dropping me your personal information for a private conversation if that’s ok by you...❤️
That guitar tone is insane!!!!
Eddie in his prime the quintessential rock star - a true guitar hero of his generation brought guitar to a whole new level
Always thought it a shame they didn’t incorporate more of Hagar’s guitar in Van Halen. I’ve seen them jam on some solos together and it’s pretty cool.
Excellent !
Love them both - especially when NOT sloppy drunk.
Nice celebration !
One of the top ten guitarists and vocalists in history. I love Van Hagar 👍
I watched this live and freaked out with joy knowing with this performance that VH was gonna be just fine with Sammy.
This was an awesome day with lots of great bands. It rained most of the day, but Sammy and Eddie made the wait well worth it!
The sound of both guitars syncing up during those power/blues chords is so monstrous and perfect.
He always looked so happy to just be playing. Rock on, Edward...
I love seeing Sammy and Eddie jamming guitar together
Sammy should considered as one of the greatest frontman of all time!
Been saying this for years. Voice untouchable
@@yourbeardispatchyaf I've always thought Dave Meniketti of Y&T sounded a lot like Sammy and I always liked both bands alot.
@Therin Chilnsford Please not the DLR feud. No need to argue with a man about another man.
@Therin Chilnsford Cuz anytime someone compliments Sammy, someone always has to bring up DLR and how good of a front man he was. Really got old after awhile. They're both great tho.
Robert will always be the best
Still one of Eddie's best free flow solos ever
I cannot BELIEVE they cut to commercial in the middle of this song. This still gives me chills to this day!
The amazing Eddie , the crazy , unexplainable , thing about him is his ability to jump in and out of that song with that style he's created and it's melodic and it seems as if it's just to easy. They only come around so often , I'm glad it was in my lifetime. EVH-R.I.P.
sammy has the pipes!
D1dSheDie I sing just as good or better than Sammy and I can't get a break
He's past 70 and still has pipes
The coolest thing about Eddie is how distinguished his sound is. He could be playing any song and it's unmistakably him.
It's always the same exact bag of screech, whinnies, tapping, howls, divebombs in random order
@@bobjones2041 Well, that’s true actually.
Sammy is a beast
What an impressive performance
Was he playing a Dean ML here like the one Dimebag Darell was known for?
@@andyblack5687 yeah he was
@@ivolas247 How cool is that!
Give him credit. He could sing and play a guitar on par with Eddie.
Thanks for the magic Eddie. We'll never forget you😢🤟🏻🤟🏻
RIP Eddie. The greatest guitarist of all time.
ONE of the greatest.
Don't forget Gilmour, Gibbons,
Page, Beck, Rhodes, Holdsworth, Malmsteen, Hendrix, etc.
Lots of greats to choose from there.
@@davidrichter9164 and Brian May
I heard the first note of jump on the radio when I got in the car... Wrote a song your mom would like and could shred anybody
We all miss Eddie Van Halen, one of the greatest Guitar players ever. Rest In Peace Eddie. Gone, but never forgotten.
will never forget the first time I saw this... Bless you EVH. And miss you Sammy Hagar! The Circle is Bad Ass.
That Smile of EVH😔
This is so great, they look like they are having a ball! :-D
Cant believe hes gone😔
Eddie and Sammy were a classic bromance. Eddie was finally able to be himself, and he couldn't keep the smile off his face with Sammy around (until much later). This raw version of Rock and Roll is great.
I don't think that any new or current bands could hang with these guys. Man this was great, Eddie was always fun to watch. Never a dull or boring moment when he had a guitar in his hands. 🚬🎸
how could anyone give this a thumbs down?? One of the greatest solos I've ever heard Eddie rip!!!
Thanks for following my page, thank you for the support and love ❤️ I really appreciate you 🥰 I’ll love to honor you by dropping me your personal information for a private conversation if that’s ok by you...❤️
I love that "Kramer!" That is the best sounding guitar he has ever had.... I wish he would copy it and sell it now that he has his own guitar company!
bo Zep That's because Edward was playing it!
Here is Eddie's exact reply:
Was the Frankenstein still your main guitar in the studio on that album?
I had actually retired the Frankenstein by then. I’m pretty sure I used the Kramer 5150 guitar the most on that album-“Panama,” “Girl Gone Bad,” “House of Pain,” the solos on “Jump” and “I’ll Wait.”
wolfgang model wasnt around till the 90s
A man's guitar is made of Valyrian steel.
No words truer spoken. The King. There was Hendrix. There was SRV. And there was Eddie Van Halen.
And not necessarily in that order.
What? SRV is two levels below Hendrix, Edward........
@@rick3747 I agree (maybe three levels). SRV, like Bonnasamo, know a lot of licks, none their own.
They looked like great friends. Sad ending to a friendship
What happened ?
Reese Tailer you know Sammy had a successful solo career before he joined VH right? 🙄
Eddie drank to much and kinda ruined a lot of relations he had with people. Thankfully he’s sober now
One of the greatest band out thier.Eddie is incredible sammy is talented.Thiers never going to be a band like them.
George Sander Iron Maiden isn’t bad dude.
Eddie always walked the tightrope... the end of the solo - you think he's farked up the timing but no, he absolutely nails it and it's spot on perfect. Incredible. Never has there been a player with his sense of swing and rhythm.
You talk guitar player was fun to watch that was Eddie Van Halen his guitar playing was out of this world, one of the best rock guitarist to ever live, just rock God,RIP Eddie Van Halen, Gone but never forgotten😢😎🎸🙏😇😍😍😍🤘🤘🤘
Sammy Hagar Is an Incredible lead singer!
Remember this well. We were there. What a rainy day. What a great time. Great show. God Bless America!
I was there also. That was a long wet fun day!
There will be no other like him. Simply the greatest. He wrote great music along with his incredible guitar solos. Everybody says Hendrix was the greatest, but, Eddie took it so much further. May he rest in peace. Will miss him dearly.
I was around back in the day but just finished watching Sammy Hagar's 1985 Farm Aid. Now this. I am only now realizing what a cool deal it was to have Sammy in Van Halen.
So Great to See Sammy & Eddie together best duo ever in Rock History. Loved this Two wonderful person Straight from my heart.
The king is gone, but he's not forgotten.
David Lee Roth has watched this video 355 times...
Haha
He could never sing Zep
Now he has watched it 378 times
Laughing at Hagar' hair the whole time
No he didn't
Always liked Sammy's singing. :)
Great singer, and bigger range than Roth. Van Halen wasn't as limited with Hagar.
Wish there was a JP reaction to this!!❤️
I love you Eddie and Sammy take me to those good old days.
