I once met Eddie and the whole band back in 1986. I had won a radio contest for backstage passes when they had come to my city back then. I still have several pics of this. They were all very nice and Eddie even let me strap on the famous Frankenstrat and showed me how to play a few chords to the song panama. I walked away with a ton of t-shirts, caps, jackets, autographs and great memories that will stick with me forever. It truly was a once in a lifetime experience!

Raw wild and free. That’s the way rock ‘n’ roll was meant to be. No band captured that better than Van Halen. What a time it was for all of us.

It was. I remember it well. The spring of 1978 in high school. Skipping classes going to the park firing up a j, and throwing the frisbee around while listening to VH II from my friend's car speakers. Care free times.

Agreed 100%. I'm not much into pop ballad type songs. When they are done right they are amazing. "Little Dreamer" is even more close to being a ballad but less melodic. I'm just wondering that without those "ooh baby, babys" you described if I'd dislike this tune. For example "In a Simple Rhyme" is crap and so is "Women in Love". I can count on one hand the amount of VH tunes I dislike.

@Gene Prevento II I tend to focus on band members that are less flamboyant, like bassists. For example, John Deacon contributed to Queen both by performing and his sound engineering designs that helped the bass and the guitar to sound better. Band members like John and Michael deserve way more attention :D

NOW, more than a huge appreciation and gratitude to the rock gods that came before me and made all this awesome music. Never before, and probably now more than ever, do I understand it all. Eddie, a HUGE thank you for all you've provided, but aside from the music you've made, but also taught us a very valuable lesson. I've heard from tons of people the one thing he was: kind. Always gave you the time of day to talk, always smiling, always knew how to treat people. I think we can all learn from this.

I'm sitting in the front row facing the end of that catwalk. The band hits its first chord, DLR runs down that catwalk and DLR jumps up to touch his toes. EVH slides underneath DLR as he jumps and the concert starts. I have never been the same.

Sad news today that the world has lost one of the best guitarist ever. Seriously, 2020 has been such a tough year.
I never got to meet Eddie , but I saw VH in concert 11 different times over the years.
Back in the days of General admission tickets, we would show up early and get front row.
At the end of the Fair warning tour Eddie reached over and handed me a guitar pick. I have it in our safe deposit box along with all my concert ticket stubs.
Rest In Peace Edward Van Halen, you were one of a kind!

All we needed were our huge hair sprayed with Aquanet, tons of eyeliner, makeup, miniskirts & heels & we could shove our way right to the front of the stage LMAO!! 👊 SO devastated we've lost Eddie Van Halen. I was class of '88 & the memories are pure gold. I had Eddie Van Halen posters all over my bedroom walls. 😞 Rest in peace Eddie, we love you.
