I once met Eddie and the whole band back in 1986. I had won a radio contest for backstage passes when they had come to my city back then. I still have several pics of this. They were all very nice and Eddie even let me strap on the famous Frankenstrat and showed me how to play a few chords to the song panama. I walked away with a ton of t-shirts, caps, jackets, autographs and great memories that will stick with me forever. It truly was a once in a lifetime experience!

I know, this one hit me hard. I'm not usually affected very much by celebrity deaths, but this is different. I actually feel like a member of my family or an old friend has ripped away from me. I grew up listening to these guys and they were hands down my favorites and it was mainly due to Eddie. I had a tight group of friends and we used to do everything together from roller skating, building a bmx type track in the woods by our neighborhood, built a rickety fort there and burn it down accidentally, lol. We hung out at the local malls and yes when we were a little older we started going to concerts. We were all into music and one of them was really into kiss. He used to keep up with ball the latest music. I remember we were playing risk in his basement one night and he had a cassette in his hand. He said you guys have to hear this, this is a new band and they're going to be huge. We all laughed ,like yeah right! Well, it happened to be Van Halen's first album. Well he was right because I was blown away. Their sound was so different from anything I'd heard before, especially the guitar. Running with the devil, you really got me, on fire, Jamie's crying, atomic punk and the list goes on. I immediately liked all the songs and that doesn't usually happen with me. But when I heard eruption.... WOW!!! I don't have the words to describe what I thought and felt. I'd never heard anything like that, it had us dumfounded. We were just trying to figure out what we were listening to. We were trying to picture how the hell he was producing those sounds from a guitar. It's funny because I thought we were the only ones that were thinking that, but I saw a VH 1 show about guitar players and all of these famous rock guitarists were saying the same thing I did the first time I heard eruption. They were saying they were trying to figure what they were listening to and how he was doing it,lol. I forget which one, but he said what is this? Someone is playing some alien shit😂. I was an instant VH fan and what initially drew me in was Eddie Van Halen. I went on to see them several times in concert and they always put on the best live shows, especially with DLR. I'm old school and even though Sammy is a better musician than Dave, Dave's my fav. Nothing like a VH concert with DLR. We've lost a music legend and a great human being. Sorry u never got to see them. We will always have their music though. RIP Eddie, guitar god!

I can’t pick any other times that were the greatest and that’s the 80s look where we’re at today. We’re on the verge of world war three Yep that’s right is definitely ugly but it’s true. We’re all going extinct. We’re on the right path. The good book is fulfilled. And we’re dead on sad but true.❤
