    Foxy Shazam was great! I got to meet them back in the day(they were signing posters in the venue they were playing that night). Two of my sisters travelled to(Cincinnati I think) be in their music video for “I like it”. Iirc Sky White and someone else bought the Church/compound it was filmed in for their other businesses(sky white makes tea). Foxy Shazam was so much fun.

    Saw them live a decade ago: got to hold Sky's knee while he crowdsurfed with his keyboard, and helped pull Eric on top of the stagefront amps, so that he could collect cigarettes from the crowd to light and eat. Eric definitely struggles, live, to hit the same crisp vocal lines that you hear on the albums, but the show was one I'll never forget! Foxy's self-titled album is one of my all-time favorites.

    I think one key part of their "rise and fall" story that you missed was the fallout after "The Church of Rock n Roll". Their shift in sound with Gonzo and the return to releasing music independently wasn't just a stylistic choice. "Church" was supposed to be their big breakthrough...and it just failed to sell (some blame the lack of marketing). The band has never spoken publicly about this all too much, but I think they just could no longer see a superstar future with the major labels so they decided to go back to doing what they had done before.
    It's a real tragedy because they're a band that deserved to be on EVERYONE's radar.
    Regardless, awesome video about one of my favorite bands! Saw them live once again a few years ago and they sounded amazing! Looks like they're finally starting up the tour bus again too, so I'm hoping to catch them soon!

    Great job on the video. Was shown foxy Shazam back in 2012 from my bassist in the band I was in. Showed me ‘Dangerous Man’ which got my attention as we were in a post hardcore band and I LOVED his vocal style. Then showed me ‘Oh Lord’ where he’s BELTING out just as high if not higher than Patrick Stump or Brendan Urie would sing. Along with the funky music videos and Eric’s aesthetic I loved it. I stopped listening after around 2015 tho and saw that they were coming back during 2020 but never really followed up. 2) I think the song Killing It is worth mention, as it is their biggest song that that didn’t have any help from radio, having more plays on Spotify than both I Like It and Unstoppable.
    3) The band’s antics on stage includes Sky putting his keyboard on top of the crowd and playing from there, Daisy would balance his bass on 1 finger, and so on. They ALL would be considered a frontman in any other situation!

    "The French Passion of Animality Opera" music video. They were the reason my cousin and I started a rock band with the same energy. That seems like years ago now. I'm 27 now and this band has always been an influential part of my musical life. I met all of them and almost went on tour with them. They are some of the nicest people I had ever met. My band covered all of their songs and we always tried to let people know who they were at school. They really deserve a bigger audience. But, Covid struck and most young people these days would rather listen to rap and hip hop which is why I think Foxy Shazam has not had the breakthrough they deserve. I will admit that their new music is not as good as it used to be. But, they still have talent that deserves as much attention as a band like Queen. The evolution of an artist can make you scratch your head. The more you look around at different artists' trajectory, the more you realize this 'change' is growth and is entirely healthy. It allows the artist to continue to create and grow, which is much easier to do when you don't subscribe to other people's expectations of what 'box' you're supposed to live in. Unfortunately, most casual music fans have difficulty suspending expectations and consuming the art for what it is. That challenges the artist to either continue to be true to themself or to try to capture fame and success. It's exceedingly difficult to do both.

      @bwhee 23 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@EternallyUncoolTrevor I agree. It's been fun to watch. I just watched a Rick Beato interview with Butch Walker. His evolution was crazy, too. He was in a hair/glam metal band Southgang during the tail end of that era, then was in Floyd's Funk Revival/The Floyds, which fused funk, power pop, elements of metal, and despite having the right ingredients, still somehow evaded fame. That band evolved into Marvelous Three, which had some mainstream success but again, despite having the ingredients of a breakout group, simply didn't catch on. Butch has some solo records too. He since gone on to write Grammy-winning songs and has enjoyed success as a producer. Many people still say "Who?" but those who know, know. Foxy Shazam is still writing their story, but I still see parallels in the two paths. Fame is so fickle that it doesn't always find the true gems in the music world.

    I love their music but is a shame they only perform their cover of Nirvanas “ drain you” only 1 time live and there is no video footage of that performance , and in many of their live shows they never performed it live again I consider “drain you “ one of the best songs by Nirvana but Foxy Shazam made “drain you” their own and even better than the original in my opinion

    I think the real question is not 'why didn't they become huge?' but 'did THEY want to become huge?' Honestly, it sometimes feels like every creative decision taken after Church had 'commercial suicide' written all over it... They might just be too weird for the average listener - not that it's a bad thing :) I just heard their 'Dark Blue Night' album and it's yet another curveball in their discography (and one that I like a lot!) My only regret is that I never saw them live and their presence in Europe is virtually non-existent :'(

      @@OliFant81 they definitely aren’t afraid to be weird and unique, which isn’t always commercially successful. But if they live on as a niche cult band I feel like that’s a win for them.

    Justin Hawkins killed the band stone dead producing Church of Rock & Roll.
    Should’ve stuck with John Feldmann.

    I once heard the song Killin' it, wow that was something great lyrics, energy, joy, musical line, I listened to other songs and nothing was as good. For me it's a band of one song that is great. wasted potential of the band and Eric has a great voice. Best regards
