Its so weird because when i was a JW..everything that was "bad" felt like a forbidden temptation that i inevitably ended up doing in secret. Now that i no longer believe in the "truth" i have broken free from all my bad habits. Which i realize now i was only doing because i was on self destruct mode. I felt that if i wasn't going to paradise, then my life was worthless. I feel so much worth in myself now. I thank the Lord I decided to truly seek him. Its never to late. Im 25 now. Even though that is still young. The earlier you mentally remove yourself from this groups control the better. Get back the free will God gave you and put it to good use :)

A strikingly handsome man in the service of the Lord. I remember avoiding his books when I looked things up online during my days as a witness. It a funny how I now as a Christian see things very differently.
And now I know that my former so called brothers view me as a toxic apostate. But it as sad as that is it is great to go through what the apostles went through. There is no other way about it. I marvel at how poorly I read the Bible despite reading the bible every day (and that is not something witnesses do. Unless you count “The daily Text” 😂)

We had an older elder that regularly questioned stuff in the literature [old timey] and wrote to the 'society' for explanation. He was always told to wait for the org to say 'in print' if his thoughts were sound or not and to refrain from running ahead of the org. He was happy to 'figure' that he may not live to see if his thoughts panned out or not [probably why he wasn't booted out - this was in the 70s].

The bible gives us the rules to live by and how to apply them. So why does anyone think they can add to or take from? Why do so many think they need to follow a man made religion? Follow the commandments, do unto others as you would have them do unto you, Love the Lord thy God with all thy heart soul and mind, this is all we need to know anything else causes confusion and lies of which Satan is the father of. The rules are simply too simple, we think we will be heard for much speaking and put ourselves on pedastools. These things are our downfall.

Really interesting. A lot of James's archive information echoed my own studies over the years but as to the involvement of Maria's contribution in the 'Studies in the Scriptures' was new to me although that is something mentioned briefly in JW.ORG as a reason for their separation. JW.ORG is a great source for half truths!
As James said it was Maria who first initiated the suggestion that CTR was the 'Faithful and discreet slave' and that taken from a manipulation of the Matthew 24:45 text ... "Who really is the faithful and discreet slave whom his master appointed over his domestics to give them their food at the proper time?" [NWT]
This is and has been along with the following parable of the wise and foolish virgins for some 1,800 years accepted and it's meaning perfectly understood as being the relationship between the master of the household and his servant, but Russell by adding another layer of interpretation to this gives a different meaning by changing the slave to be Russell himself and the house owner to be the Christ (albeit invisibly).
The idea that these parables would be written but only understood at the end times is fanciful.
Mankind only has a limited life span in which to make their judgements for their souls and these parables would have been as relevant to someone living in the 8th or 14th century as well as now.

    • @ronaldday4780
      @ronaldday4780 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Osarian
Russell himself never claimed to a sole position of being the faithful and wise servant, although I am certain that he sought to be faithful and wise in his service to the Master. Russell did acknowledge that others applied this to him as being the solely this faithful and wise servant. Russell's last statement I could find concerning this was:
      Quote:
Some of the dear brethren seem to find as much about Brother Russell in the Bible as they find about the Lord Jesus, and I think that is a great mistake. I do not find it there. Some of them say that I am blinded on that subject, that they all can see better than I can. Perhaps they can, I do not know, but I think, dear friends, that there is a danger in that direction, and I would like to put you all on guard. I think it is the Lord's will that we should recognize every agency God uses, but we are not to recognize any agency of God as being in any competition whatever with the Lord or with his divine arrangement. He is the fountain of blessing, he only is most to be praised. I think that is the right sentiment. I believe you all agree with that. And yet I think there is a danger of some dear friends preaching Brother Russell. Brother Russell would like for you not to do so. He thinks it would not be to the glory of God. Let me repeat, then, dear friends, that in my opinion we have so much of the Gospel of God, so much of his plan to study, so many opportunities of showing forth his praises, that we should employ all our time in that way. My advice, therefore, is that we give very little attention to anything outside of that. The Scriptures do indeed say that we may render honor to him to whom honor is due, and that is applicable to anybody and everybody; as, for instance, we look back and we see Martin Luther, and he did a grand work, and we thank God for him; and we might say the same of John Wesley, and very truthfully; I am glad in God's providence he lived, and that he was a faithful man. And there were others of the Lord's people in the past. Let us be glad and rejoice in every one, and be thankful to God he has used various agencies in helping us, and in helping others, and in bringing forward his great cause; but let us not go into anything that would be at all like man-worship, for I am sure that would be displeasing to the Lord and injurious to ourselves. I remind you again of the Scripture in Revelations where the Church is pictured, which we called attention to, I believe, thirty years ago. John, the revelator, who was seeing these things, fell down to worship the angel who showed them to him, and the angel said, "See thou do it not; worship God; I am thy fellow-servant." And so, dear friends, if our Heavenly Father and our Heavenly Lord have used Brother Russell in any measure he is very glad and very thankful to be used. And if the Lord is pleased to use him any more, he will be glad to be used down to the last breath, but he does not want any worship, he does not want any undue adoration, he does not want any praise. He is glad to have the love of all those who are brethren of the Lord and to be considered a fellow-servant with all, striving to bring to pass all the glorious things that God has promised, striving to tell the good tidings of great joy to as many as the Lord, our God, shall call. -- Emdquote.

There isn't any truth to the bible. It was the most freeing thing for me when i figured it out. I partially have JWs to thank for this. After looking into how crazy their beliefs are, it caused me to question my own beliefs.

Candy Irish Maria Ackley Russell also was the one who first came up with the "Faithful and Discreet Slave" doctrine (by misinterpreting Mat. 24:45-47) and applying this term to her husband, beginning in 1895. As far as time prophecies are concerned. Rutherford actually rejected practically everything Rutherford and Barbour presented. He evidently wanted to use the time prophecies to bolster his "Jehovah's visible organization' dogma, and thus came up with totally new applications for those time prophecies. The only one the JWs today use in any way similar to Russell is that of the seven times of Daniel 4.

Rose Ball apparently appeared much younger than she was, as some described as being about 12 when she came to live with the Russells. As far as I know, while she was alive, no one ever questioned her about the validity of Mrs. Russell's claims; apparently she and her husband were not on speaking terms with either of the Russells after about 1909. A large portion of Mrs. Russell's hear-say testimony was stricken from the records, as they were considered out of the time element involved. For links to some more of my own research:

@@thinkingman2020 While it appears that many Bible Students failed to make the distinction, Russell was actually the president of the legal entity in London that was designated "International Bible Students Association." At the same time, Russell referred to the association of Bible Students world wide as "International Bible Students Association." Russell was not "the president" of the worldwide association, but he was the president of the legal entity in England. Russell, at least for a while, endeavored to get local ecclesias to refer to themselves as "Associated Bible Students" instead of "International Bible Students", but this recommendation evidently failed to be applied by most local ecclesias. The term, "International Bible Students" remained. I have more related to this on one of my websites:
      rlctr.blogspot.com/2016/10/ibsa.html
Russell was definitely, however, never a member of the Jehovah's Witnesses. Rutherford created the Jehovah's Witnesses organization by rejecting the core teachings of Russell and the Bible Students, especially as related to the atonement and authority. Rutherford, however, at first sought to bring the Bible Students into subjection to his claimed authority; when the vast majority of the Bible Students around the world rejected his "Jehovah's visible organization" dogma, Rutherford named his organization "Jehovah's Witnesses" in order to distinguish his organization from the Bible Students.
The Bible Students Association, however, was never intended to be a "religion." Russell did speak of the true church, which he described as follows:
      Quote:
(1913) The one true Church, dear friends, is the church of the Bible. There never has been but that one true Church. All others are false, and if I built up another church I would be building up another false one. That is not our proposition at all. The I.B.S.A. holds out the proposition which the Bible stands for, namely, that all people who are trusting in the Lord Jesus Christ, and consecrated to follow in his steps, are of the church of the living God whose names are written in heaven. The I.B.S.A. recognizes no other church. It does not say that only those in the I.B.S.A. constitute the church. It recognizes that all true Christians in the various churches should be awake, and we are trying to awaken them to the truth. The I.B.S.A. recognizes that these true Christian people are in danger of falling into infidelity, unless they get the true light of God's Word, and so is trying to bring all Christian people to study the Bible, and thus into complete union as the church of Christ. -- What Pastor Russell Said, page 348. :Endquote.
      mostholyfaith.com/Beta/bible/QB/qb.asp?xRef=Q348:3#Q348:3
In his book, Thy Kingdom Come, Russell wrote:
      Quote:
No earthly organization can grant a passport to heavenly glory. The most bigoted sectarian (aside from the Romanist) will not claim, even, that membership in his sect will secure heavenly glory. All are forced to admit that the true Church is the one whose record is kept in heaven, and not on earth. They deceive the people by claiming that it is needful to come to Christ through them – needful to become members of some sectarian body in order to become members of "the body of Christ," the true Church. On the contrary, the Lord, while he has not refused any who came to him through sectarianism, and has turned no true seeker away empty, tells us that we need no such hindrances, but could much better have come to him direct. He cries, "Come unto me"; "take my yoke upon you, and learn of me"; "my yoke is easy and my burden is light, and ye shall find rest to your souls." Would that we had given heed to his voice sooner. We would have avoided many of the heavy burdens of sectism, many of its bogs of despair, many of its doubting castles, its vanity fairs, its lions of worldly-mindedness, etc.
Surely all know that whenever they join any of these human organizations, accepting its Confession of Faith as theirs, they bind themselves to believe neither more nor less than that creed expresses on the subject. If, in spite of the bondage thus voluntarily yielded to, they should think for themselves, and receive light from other sources, in advance of the light enjoyed by the sect they have joined, they must either prove untrue to the sect and to their covenant with it, to believe nothing contrary to its Confession, or else they must honestly cast aside and repudiate the Confession which they have outgrown, and come out of such a sect. To do this requires grace and costs some effort, disrupting, as it often does, pleasant associations, and exposing the honest truth-seeker to the silly charges of being a "traitor" to his sect, a "turncoat," one "not established," etc. When one joins a sect, his mind is supposed to be given up entirely to that sect, and henceforth not his own. The sect undertakes to decide for him what is truth and what is error; and he, to be a true, staunch, faithful member, must accept the decisions of his sect, future as well as past, on all religious matters, ignoring his own individual thought, and avoiding personal investigation, lest he grow in knowledge, and be lost as a member of such sect. This slavery of conscience to a sect and creed is often stated in so many words, when such a one declares that he "belongs" to such a sect.
These shackles of sectarianism, so far from being rightly esteemed as shackles and bonds, are esteemed and worn as ornaments, as badges of respect and marks of character. So far has the delusion gone, that many of God's children would be ashamed to be known to be without some such chains -- light or heavy in weight, long or short in the personal liberty granted. They are ashamed to say that they are not in bondage to any sect or creed, but "belong" to Christ only. :Endquote.
-- Thy Kingdom Come, pages 185-187.
      And also Russell stated:
      Quote:
I am aware that several churches claim to be Catholic, each declaring itself the true Church and reprobating the others as heretical. I take the still broader catholic ground-that the word catholic means general; and that any limitation such as Roman Catholic, Greek Catholic, etc., to that extent denies their catholicity.
Perhaps, therefore, I am really saying that I am more catholic than any of these brethren.
I must prove my point or be misunderstood. I hold, and few, if any, will dispute it, that the one catholic or general Church of Christ is that mentioned in the Bible -- the Church of the Firstborns, written in Heaven. If this be admitted, my next proposition is that the Lord in Heaven records as members of His true Church all the saintly-whether Roman Catholics, Anglican Catholics, Greek Catholics, Baptists, Methodists, or Presbyterians, etc.-and none others.
Have we not here the one Church, catholic, universal, the only Church which the Bible recognizes? In the past we have been too narrow and have sup posed that God was as narrow as ourselves. It was on this account that Presbyterians, Roman Catholics, Anglicans, Baptists, Methodists persecuted and were persecuted, each thinking itself the true Church. Are we not all getting broader conceptions of our God and of His Church? Do we not see that we were mistaken in calling the outward organization the Church of Christ instead of remembering that the Lord alone writes the names of the Church, that He alone reads the hearts, that He alone is the Judge, and that He alone has the right to blot out the names of reprobates?
St. Paul wrote against sectarianism, already manifest in his day-some saying: "I am of Paul"; others, "I am of Peter"; etc. The Apostle asks, "Is Christ divided?" (1 Cor. 1:10-13) He explains that these sectarian names signified a spirit of division that failed to recognize the true Head of the Church, His true representatives and His true members. The entire foundation of divided Christianity would disappear and the true Church of Christ be speedily manifest, if true catholicity were acknowledged. -- The Bible Students Monthly, Volume 7 (1915), Number 9. :Endquote.
-- I have more concerning this sermon at:
      rlctr.blogspot.com/2008/09/xf01-catholic-church.html
No, the ransom for all and non-sectarian, no-earthly authoritainian organization teachings that Russell spent nearly his entire life preaching and defending are almost the opposite of what is taught by the Jehovah's Witnesses. The Bible Students continue to exist today as totally separate and distinct from the Jehovah's Witnesses.
