I have four comments to make. 1: Thank you Eric and Jim for bringing these matters to light. 2. I have done some research on Rutherford and my findings concur with yours, that Rutherford was a ruthless, power hungry, opportunist. In a previous video Eric brought up how Rutherford regarded himself as the generalissimo of the organization. He was not an upright and decent man. 3. Mr. Penton mentioned how the Witnesses were so kind and decent to the Jews in the concentration camps who responded positively to their message but could care less about those who rejected it. This is precisely the conduct that I experienced in my dealings with the witnesses. As long as they thought that they could convert me they were the most wonderful people that I had ever met but when I expressed doctrinal differences that led to my study being terminated I might have well been disfellowshipped. In all fairness some will speak to me in the store if they see me but there is a night and day difference in the way that I am treated now versus when I studied and went to the kingdom hall. My wife has commented on this and although she has zero interest in my Christian interests I had to share Mr. Penton's comments on the treatment of the Jews based on their reaction to the witness message. 4. The Witnesses frame the hostile take over of the organization by Rutherford as a cleansing by Jesus. The 7/15/13 Watchtower states the following: "Worse, after Brother Russell’s death in October 1916, opposition arose from inside the organization. Four of the seven directors of the Watch Tower Bible and Tract Society rebelled against the decision to have Brother Rutherford take the lead. They tried to cause division among the brothers, but in August 1917, they left Bethel-a cleansing indeed! Also, some Bible Students gave in to the fear of man. Still, as a whole they willingly responded to Jesus’ cleansing work and made the needed changes. Hence, Jesus judged them to be true Christian wheat, but he rejected all imitation Christians, including all of those found within the churches of Christendom."
Thank you to James Penton for that absolutely riveting talk about the JW's early history. I was born in 1931, the year they assumed their famous title. As a child I remember my family discussing Judge Rutherford and his nefarious doings! Their opinion was that he was a wicked old fellow. At that time I didn't understand who they were discussing. By my teens i remember my father regularly discussing with the JWs at the door; I continued the tradition as i got older. My family were just run-of-the-mill protestants and were never drawn in to the organization. Over the years I have worked with Witnesses, taught their children, studied their various publications - but never had any inclination to get involved in their activities. I am still very interested indeed in learning about them. In recent doorstep discussions I have got the impression many of the younger Witnesses have only a hazy idea about their early origins. I gather they are discouraged from researching that sensitive subject. Thanks again. I enjoy items on this channel.

This is much needed for someone like me.Knowing the history makes me understand what this organization is really about.Truthfully most Jw don’t pay attention to the origin of this religion.Many Witnesses have thrown their whole lives away because of false interpretations of the Bible
It's ironic isn't it. They don't want to look at the origins of their religion that happened very recently on a historical scale,.....yet they want everyone else to analyze the origins of their traditions, holidays, and religious activities from many centuries ago. The double standard is alarming once you know more of the facts
My maternal grandmother was a JW. My own parents were polite but non-religious, so my childhood had an odd shadow hanging over it. As a teenager, I attended a few JW meetings out of curiosity. I soon decided it was not for me - my own tastes were heading in a more mystical direction. But even from the edited JW history I had gathered from my grandmother, I got the distinct impression that 'Judge' Rutherford was a rather nasty piece of work. Nothing I've learned since has changed that impression.

In the over 40 years I spent with the organization, I have always found much of the flock to be servants of men. They have always position themselves in persecutions way, and then credit themselves for being persecuted; using that as a mark of being the true religion.
I find it interesting that si many protestants and Adventists and their cults and sects go from one group to another in a never ending search for the "truth" never to find it.
I also heard that Rutherford, during the Prohibition era, persuaded the Canadian branch to ship into the US, large shipments of alcohol down to him. The Canadian Bethelites didn't want to break the US ban on importation of liquor but did it anyway, probably out of fear of Rutherford.
Transparency. If WT was required to also put in a paragraph a disclaimer" , perhaps JW facts and other historic facts so people could make an informed decision.
I enjoy your videos but I always have a question mark on them. I’m not sure about double meaning of prophecies for our day? Keep wondering if I’m missing something. I’m a bit 50/50 at moment. But I’ll keep listening and try to work it out
What you haven't mentioned is that the atrocities of the Nazis were not known until near the end of world war 2 and not fully known until the liberation of the concentration camps. As far as the world knew they were labour camps as far I know. When I was a witness I heard of 2 witnesses who were executed by the Nazis . Evidently the witnesses could have signed a form to get of the concentration camps if they accepted National Socialism and many chose not to do this although some did. What were all the reasons for Rutherford contacting Hitler? Was he contacting him on behalf on the witnesses in Germany to get them released from the labour camps and the Nazis put a clause in with it on the form? I learnt about what I've just asked about from my Bible study conductor decades ago.
Interesting video , although I'm concerned that James seems to be endorsing the persecution of JWs , that those in Germany and elsewhere somehow brought it upon themselves ? I myself was once sentenced to a 6 year jail term for refusing military service in apartheid South Africa when a JW . Although nolonger a JW , I don't regret my choice . In hindsight it was the right thing to do . I applaud anyone who bravely spoke out openly against Nazism regardless of the cost to themselves personally.
Just a small point. It's a popular misconception that Rutherford banned Birthdays, after banning Christmas in 1928. Actually, Jehovah's Witnesses continued celebrating Birthdays up until 1951. It was during Nathan Knorr's presidency that they were forbidden. According to JWFacts.com, the first time Birthdays were seen as wrong was in this 1951 Watchtower Questions from Readers: In 1951, the Watchtower stated the Witnesses were no longer to celebrate birthdays. "Is it proper to have or attend celebrations of birthday anniversaries?-F. K., Nevada. Such celebrations have their roots in pagan religions, and not Scriptural grounds. Some Bible commentators suggest that birthday celebrations may have had their origin in the "notion of the immortality of the soul"." Watchtower 1951 Oct 1 p.607 Questions from Readers.

1916 was the Year my great grandfather was brought over here as a Political prisoner. A key figure during that era of WWI.. along that were caught were Luther Wartz and Franz Von Pappen. Zimmerman who is also responsible, his descendants also intermarry into our family. The Raid on Columbus NM on March 9th, 1916 was Germanys doing. Villa was never there according to a military official from Fort Bliss El Paso who told war Dept as well as from confession from survivors in their 80's and 90's in the 1980's.. Everyone pointed finger on my great grandfather. Some of his family was from Silver City NM and the rest from Namiquipa. Ancestors were Sephardic and Ashkenazi german jews and others. I have court and military docs now released.
All this going on in the organization when did they do their Bible studies to get spiritual food and when did they do the candle rituals they keep hidden to members they really kept that a secret.How ? That is so amazing to me . How did they do it.

And yes, The watchtower has always been corrupt, yet the basic truth, I.e., Mathew 6 that it preaches remains correct also and has been preached with phenomenal success. The rest is a sea of corruption. As we can see, the watchtower is now collapsing under law suits corruption and general filth and will be destroyed before long, so yes, you’re right there too. Also after listening to another video Rutherford had family issues especially with his brother who also worked in the civil side of the law. Magnum opus: In answer to your question, No one knows the proper pronunciation of the name, but ‘Jehovah’ identifies the subject or recipient widely, using the current linguistic terms in use. I’m quite happy to use that name until we know better. The bible though is clear on what it means to the owner and indeed, I’m sure He will make it known at the appropriate time. I think it’s a better to use a title widely understood and associated with what Jesus taught, that to employ the title God, the interpretation of such is refers all things to all men, from mafia bosses to children’s idea of a sweet little Jesus in a manger. The name brings meaning to the bible. Yahweh will do for many. That’s fine too. But we don’t have a literal understanding of what is known as the Tetragrammaton . Jesus said to call Him Father, and also employed the term Abba which draws in relationship sentiments also useful in understanding Jehovah’s view towards his people. I don’t really concern myself with semantics or religious bias or ownership. I just try to understand the bible. The world has little enough to offer and nothing that I want from it, that’s for sure.
pentirah5 . ‘What is in a name’? Meaning, intent, purpose, significance, hope, peace, understanding, fear, love....something that stands for something. Even a warning. Jehovah has meaning in every language, the name itself stemming from the original Hebrew. Shakespeare was revering you but one aspect of a rose, it’s smell. But nearly everything has a smell, and so the applied meaning Shakespeare intended....love....has been lost in translation to the modern idiom. Jehovah though, stands for a multiplicity of meanings and thus the name cannot be changed without loss of meaning. Thus only the one name will describe the the significance and meaning of His name. No other name will encapsulate the same meaning.
It hardly makes sense to think that the Entity who brought the universe into existence and who can see the future, had a book written over hundreds of years by many writers, somehow forgot to include his Name. But as Eric Wilson has pointed out in one of his other videos, it seems more likely that it was intentional. Maybe we need to see it for what it is, a scream that our focus should be on the Christ because he is the model for a Christian to follow. The ScotchTower Babel and Booze Society has made it a point to focus on the notion that humans have intentionally deleted it from Scripture. (Of course, God has had no control over this situation, John 12:28). So now ST, shoving Jesus aside, is the hero for having put it back in.
GB NoMore . The bible does contain the name in various places, depending on which translation one uses. So it is known. The emphasis is not on Christ in this regard. Christ said that ‘I do nothing on my own account, but from Him who sent me’. But yes, you are right....’no one comes to the father except through me.’ Said Christ. Though to Christ, the name of his father was paramount. That Jehovah did not leave his name unknown is self evident from the scripture. That the bible is inspired is also self evident.

Halloween (hallowed evening) actually begins at sundown. Russell died in the early afternoon before Halloween. Nevertheless, any such conclusion about Russell's death as making such connected with the devil would only have meaning if absolutely everyone who dies on October 31 must be servants of Satan. Having studied Russell's works for about 60 years now, I can certainly say that Russell was not a servant of Satan. Interesting video , although I'm concerned that James seems to be endorsing the persecution of JWs , that those in Germany and elsewhere somehow brought it upon themselves ?
I myself was once sentenced to a 6 year jail term for refusing military service in apartheid South Africa when a JW . Although nolonger a JW , I don't regret my choice . In hindsight it was the right thing to do .
I applaud anyone who bravely spoke out openly against Nazism regardless of the cost to themselves personally.
Just a small point. It's a popular misconception that Rutherford banned Birthdays, after banning Christmas in 1928. Actually, Jehovah's Witnesses continued celebrating Birthdays up until 1951. It was during Nathan Knorr's presidency that they were forbidden. According to JWFacts.com, the first time Birthdays were seen as wrong was in this 1951 Watchtower Questions from Readers:
In 1951, the Watchtower stated the Witnesses were no longer to celebrate birthdays.
"Is it proper to have or attend celebrations of birthday anniversaries?-F. K., Nevada.
Such celebrations have their roots in pagan religions, and not Scriptural grounds. Some Bible commentators suggest that birthday celebrations may have had their origin in the "notion of the immortality of the soul"." Watchtower 1951 Oct 1 p.607 Questions from Readers.

1916 was the Year my great grandfather was brought over here as a Political prisoner. A key figure during that era of WWI.. along that were caught were Luther Wartz and Franz Von Pappen. Zimmerman who is also responsible, his descendants also intermarry into our family. The Raid on Columbus NM on March 9th, 1916 was Germanys doing. Villa was never there according to a military official from Fort Bliss El Paso who told war Dept as well as from confession from survivors in their 80's and 90's in the 1980's.. Everyone pointed finger on my great grandfather. Some of his family was from Silver City NM and the rest from Namiquipa. Ancestors were Sephardic and Ashkenazi german jews and others. I have court and military docs now released.

And yes, The watchtower has always been corrupt, yet the basic truth, I.e., Mathew 6 that it preaches remains correct also and has been preached with phenomenal success. Also after listening to another video Rutherford had family issues especially with his brother who also worked in the civil side of the law. Maybe or maybe not his ripping out of the pages of the Finished Mystery and going to an event with the clergy before his espionage charge could have been to limit charges they may have been brought against other bible students.

Magnum opus: In answer to your question, No one knows the proper pronunciation of the name, but ‘Jehovah’ identifies the subject or recipient widely, using the current linguistic terms in use. I’m quite happy to use that name until we know better. The bible though is clear on what it means to the owner and indeed, I’m sure He will make it known at the appropriate time. I think it’s a better to use a title widely understood and associated with what Jesus taught, that to employ the title God, the interpretation of such is refers all things to all men, from mafia bosses to children’s idea of a sweet little Jesus in a manger. The name brings meaning to the bible. Yahweh will do for many. That’s fine too. But we don’t have a literal understanding of what is known as the Tetragrammaton . Jesus said to call Him Father, and also employed the term Abba which draws in relationship sentiments also useful in understanding Jehovah’s view towards his people. I don’t really concern myself with semantics or religious bias or ownership. I just try to understand the bible. The world has little enough to offer and nothing that I want from it, that’s for sure.

Jehovah has meaning in every language, the name itself stemming from the original Hebrew. Shakespeare was revering you but one aspect of a rose, it’s smell. But nearly everything has a smell, and so the applied meaning Shakespeare intended....love....has been lost in translation to the modern idiom. Jehovah though, stands for a multiplicity of meanings and thus the name cannot be changed without loss of meaning. Thus only the one name will describe the the significance and meaning of His name. No other name will encapsulate the same meaning.

It hardly makes sense to think that the Entity who brought the universe into existence and who can see the future, had a book written over hundreds of years by many writers, somehow forgot to include his Name. But as Eric Wilson has pointed out in one of his other videos, it seems more likely that it was intentional. Maybe we need to see it for what it is, a scream that our focus should be on the Christ because he is the model for a Christian to follow.
The ScotchTower Babel and Booze Society has made it a point to focus on the notion that humans have intentionally deleted it from Scripture. (Of course, God has had no control over this situation, John 12:28). So now ST, shoving Jesus aside, is the hero for having put it back in.
