I had the Modesta coating put on my truck. Supposed to be one of the hardest coatings. They kept it for three days and cure the coating under UV light. They said it will last 8-10 years. It shines like a diamond now and can literally wash the bugs off with a hose. It was not cheap but neither is most ceramic coatings either. Waxing got old and I’m OCD about my rides, this was a great mod.
100% vouch for Hydrosilex!! I've used this product for the past few years on multiple vehicles. It's awesome. I need to get this new offroad stuff though!
I have used Chemical Guys products for six years and they are great. I also have a Griot's shop not far from our home and have found their drying towels for trucks are great, super absorbent. They also have some really good washing chemicals.
@@ChloeKuo Agreed! I'm looking for a taco currently and trying to find one with a neutral color. Trying to get away from a black car, but looks amazing after a detail for only 10 minutes 😬
Ceramic coating helps the vehicle stay so much cleaner for longer. I don’t even need to use my wipers when I’m on the highway. The rain just slides off the windshield and paint. I try to coat it after each wash. I also like the Sonax Spray and Seal. You spray it on a clean wet car. Than simply rinse off. No need to buff after. I spray it on eve thing on the outside of my Tacoma including glass, and wheels. Give it a try if you haven’t used it before. I also find that using a clay mitt before hand is a huge time saver compared to a traditional clay bar. It’s less abrasive and can be used multiple times unlike the bar. The sio2 sticks to the clear coat much easier when the paint is clayed and clean. I clay mitt the whole Tacoma after taking delivery. Clay bar used to take me 1 hour but now clay mitt takes 20 min or so.
I tried this product and really liked it. After it wore off, I tried two different ceramic coatings and didn't like them. The water would bead but wouldn't move off the truck. Dust would collect on the water beads and once the beads evaporated, a water spot is left on the truck. I didn't have this issue with HydroSilex.
I PPF'd the entire front of my black Tacoma last year, in April, when I first bought my 2020. Sunstoppers did the work for under $2000 and it included the headlights and side mirrors. Two weeks ago a rock hit my left headlight and scratched the lens. SS removed the film, did a small amount of buffing and replaced the film under their lifetime warranty. The PPF is worth the money for the protection it delivers for the front end, not worth doing the entire truck though. Loved your video and channel. I'm going to buy the ceramic brand you used. I just don't look forward to the prep, which obviously has to be done for the best result. Keep up the great work!
One day, I will try one of these ceramic coating sprays, however, I've always found that regular car wax makes my vehicles bead up when wet for at least 3 months. Wax 4 times a year, and paint still looks great after 13 years, especially considering it's not garage kept.
You said the ceramic coating bonds to the clear coat, does it also fill in scratches on the clear coat? I know you used the Meguir’s scratchX, but I think that removed blemishes right?
I just recently bought a used 2019 Tocoma limited edition. They had put the same tire and wheel set up as you have. Now I'm extra proud of my rig set up. It's not as off road ready being a limited but it looks amazing!
Coatings will only sustain their durability with proper continuous care. General guidelines when using a ceramic coating is biweekly washing at the minimum. Sio2 spray on coating only last a few weeks varying on the outdoor elements. Permanent ceramic coatings are the way to go; both professional and consumer grade versions are available. Just look past the claims of lifetime guaranteed coatings as they’re bs.
I just waxed my truck, and out here in "litter box" AZ, it lasted two seconds and was covered in dust!... So i need to do this before my paint get ruined out here under the hot sun and starts to look like the 2nd gen i had. The paint was falling off, and i hated it! 😖
Living in a winter state with chemicals added to road surfaces to melt ice, yes - this will provide much protection. As far as ceramics coatings go, it's a jungle out there. So, I rely on recommendations first. Why not use what my no. 1 Tacoma mentor uses? Ordered it today and it will be here Saturday. It will be on my Tacoma before the first snow falls. Thank YOU!
Great video ! Ceramic coatings are great! I use mothers CMX coating and their CMX wash , holds up about 3 months, costs alot less , and sold at my local auto store
Gotta clay bar, iron decon, polish before ceramic coating so it actually sticks for years. Usually they last 3-5 yrs depending on how good you let it bond and the environment you have it. Usually suppose to keep it dry for 24-48 hours too. But thats just a spray infused ceramic it might not need all the polishing and bonding time usually theyre weaker
Awesome Chloe!! Picking some up!! Thank you for the video keep killing it. Maybe one time we can set up a meet up with a bunch of us!! Have some good off-road fun!! 🤙🏻🤙🏻
Great video! Your truck looks amazing! I’m definitely going to try this product. FYI when you are using the clay bar instead of using clay lube just spray down with soap from the snow foam cannon, much cheaper and works great.
I am a detailer it’s best to clay bar your truck first to get all the impurities off you top coat. Mother’s makes a hand one with almost rubber bottom orTHE dreaded clay bar gets in the smaller parts that mother’s can’t get into. I purchased my 2021 metallic gray came off the truck one I showed up . Still did some flay bar not bad. You will see a big difference when you do this 12 coats on my Taco nothing sticks to it.
Great video, the only issue I have is the "touchless" wash part without any contact washing. You will put more scratches on you vehicle drying it after a touchless wash because very small particles are still on the surface. It's better to use the two-bucket contact wash method to avoid adding any scratches.
I have been eyeing nano skins and chemical guys for my ceramic, but I need to come up with a place to work first... I used to be a detailer... when I ceramic coat my truck and my dad's forester, I will be completely decontaminating the finish, buffing out the paint to eliminate scratches and swirls, and sealing it... I need a place to keep it out of the pollen while everything cures. I may have to buy one of those carport tents.
Ok something to consider. Is not to mix ceramic coating and wax. They say that you can but the products are fighting each other. So check with the manufacturer of the stuff you're using. Granted Chemical guys shops vs the mfg, can be different I found when I took the paint correction class.
Yay you finally ceramic coated. I mentioned this way back in your washing video from NY. I went Graphene on the Tacoma and ceramic on the other cars. Awesome video, truck is looking fresh girl!
When I purchased my 2017 I had 3m wrap cost $2000 and you can see the seam all over the hood I just ordered a 2021 army green and will use ceramic coating instead
Thanks for your video. I ordered this and received it today. I have a 2020 Trail Boss LT about the same color as your truck. Today I used a clay bar and the the Hydrosilex. My truck looks and feels like glass. Hopefully it works well to fight dust and mud as I live on 14 miles of dirt road.😁
Nice! I have done four off road trips so far, and it definitely is noticeably better (especially when you wash off the dirt!). I did an additional coat after either the first or second trip, as I’ve heard that that helps. So far, so good!
I use an automotive glass cleaner from armor all, but my tip for no streaks is to use a new microfiber each time. Annoying but it seems to be effective!
Just curious, do you have any stone chips in your paint from the days in NY and driving across country with your father back home? if you have any, how did you correct them?
So glad I discovered your TH-cam channel 2 days ago and that you made this video. I just purchased my first Toyota and it's a 4runner. Hopefully it arrives here early next month and this is one of the first things I'm going to do.... then hit up Moab 😁

Nice job and looks great! I used the Project Farm tested and recommended Hybrid Solutions Ceramic Spray Coating (super inexpensive) after washing and clay barring my truck and, it too, is a really good product. Did two coats and has already outlasted a three-foot snowstorm and other smaller snowstorms and heavy rain. Just rinse and the truck looks super. Its been two months already and 2 to 3 coats is expected to last six months. Easy apply too. Thanks for sharing...I Really need to get a low pressure washing tool to attach to pressure washer.
