I recently played through this childhood game of mine. I got it for my 5th birthday in 1989 -- fucked around driving and exploring, yet never beat it.
It was probably dumb luck, but I locked Doom in the corner, and got so excited beating his ass that I had to go back, and lower the volume on my narration over the fight.
as a kid i always got to doom at the end and couldn't figure out how to beat him before he killed me. i never would have figured that one out.

James and Mike remind me of my friend and myself growing up during the 90's. Growing up during the early 90's I would sit over my friend's house and bullshit while he would play Nintendo games. It didn't matter if the game was terrible or great, because he had to play every game thoroughly. This was and is a great game but it's an odd game.
Snake's Revenge also has an absurd password system.
This game don't seem that bad really. If the items locations and stuff are randomised it gives it quit a bit of replay value, has a big enough map and looks to be challenging at times, plus the fighting, you can't just troll your way through bashing buttons, bit of skill involved, those psycho scenes with the questions having to scroll fast keeping the game always a challenge and not just once you get overpowered you breeze through.
That boss battle gives me anxiety though hahah. It's the type of battle where if I died, i'd not turn the game back on for a few days.

This game is underrated. It was one of the first RPG games I ever played after Zelda. I got it for Christmas 1990, and me and my cousin played it for months on end until finally beating it.
