Welcome to the SH XT club. In order, I would do bigger front brakes (of a Liberty/Legacy GT), rear swaybar, lowered springs (Pedders Sportsrider springs are at a reasonable "car height") and front swaybar. As a separate but parallel issue, any rubber mounts and bushes will be under suspicion at this age and many will be due for replacement. If it's the 2.5 litre, a VF46 (from a Liberty/Legacy) is nice for a street car - or go VF52 like most people do.
It's JDM 2.0, will be investigating exactly what's on it shortly. Thanks for the tips, as you know I'm a great fan of Pedders so will look into that.. amongst other things 😁
@@racedynamix I daily drive my SH and take it to the dirt track for club sprint events there. I'm not a fan of super-low cars (especially for a Forester, which is supposed to be practical), so I find the Sportsrider springs a great low-cost way to get a practical height with a lower centre of gravity. I can even get under the car easily enough at that height for oil changes etc., although rolling the front tyres up on 30mm+ ramps makes it a bit easier. If the JDM SH you've picked up has "self levelling" rear dampers (the clue is the bulge), you will need to swap those for generic rear dampers for different springs to work.
Oh no. Not just me having a bit of bad luck at the moment. Could make a lovely 2.1 with the Jdm block that’s coming out of the gvb by replacing the damaged crank. Maybe some pistons whilst it’s open
"Gonna stay completely standard. There's a few things I'd like to change. " Haha sounds just like me. Life's too short for standards and warranties. Have fun.
That sucks. You should try to record the noise you heard on your FSTi - i'd be interested to know what to listen for! Mine is on almost 130k miles now so I'm thinking despite good maintenance it must be a matter of time now...
@@asdreww It shouldn't be. They should go on for a long while but this has had a hg job and it normally weakens it so that the bottom end goes shortly afterwards. I have been lucky tbh
@@racedynamix headunit wise drop me a text with what exactly you want from a headunit etc I can advise also worth upgrading speakers while your at it oh and now might be a good time for you to do headlights 😉
He he he - exactly same car as our AUS daily driver. It's even the same colour! If its got the TD04L on it then VF52 should be first mod. Sooooo much nicer with VF52. Dunno why they ever fitted a TD04 to a 2.5. So nasty and snatchy down low. But I'm sure you're well aware of all this. Good car.
New fear unlocked - got any examples of what this death rattle sounds like? Can it happen on an EJ205? Paranoia of every noise is starting to get to me!
@JoseLopes_1981 I won't know until I strip the engine down but even then it will be difficult to ascertain tbh. It had done a lot of miles, a lot of testing and previously hg failure fixed and who knows what else by previous owner.
@@art-creative Just rattled once on cold start. Fine since but I heard it and know the sound so it has to come out. Will investigate fully but new heart going in which was the plan for a while anyway
Seems the idoing head units have gained popularity. I’ve never personally used one but others seem to. I dig the British lingo like “standard” and in the US we seem to say stock. 🩵✨🫡

Indeed. It was always my plan to refresh the engine anyway so not a huge deal really. A good chance to run around in something else for a while 😁

Absolutely 100%
Will do that this week 😎

Ohhhh nooooooo, the poor FSTI😭😭 Well wear with the new Fozzy Duncan😁😁
It's fine Stuart..was in the plan anyway for a new engine shortly 👍
20g on the forrester sti bit more power.. ?
Lol.. maybe 😁
Sorry to hear about the forester but it’s got a nice lump going in are you going to get it to run more power? I think it would be rude not to lol

Head unit possibly Idoing
Yeah I did look at them but decided to go with a non android head unit in the end. Thanks for the suggestion 🙏🙏

I don't I am afraid, but it is unmistakable. Yes all engines can do it.
The king is dead, long live the king.
You said "it'll probably stay standard" at least 3 times, so thats obviously a massive fibby fib!
Absobloodylutely lol
@@racedynamix ASBO-lutely lol
What was the problem?
Just a bottom end rattle on cold start. It is one of the first signs of issue. I heard it so can't unhear it. New bottom end time 👍
Can you explain what was the cause?

Yeah so do I 🤣 Must keep standard ...ish 😁
