Brennen had *the* Chris Scruggs, himself, produce the album. He makes a cameo appearance in the video for one of the songs, too.
Brennen is a helluva guitar player, singer, and song writer.
The video of "John Deer H" on the Western AF channel is a great showcase of all three.
I saw Guy perform at the Union Chapel in London in the 90s. I shuffled in on a pair of crutches after an accident earlier that week. Guy looked down at me from the stage, which incorporated a pulpit and said to me as I shuffled into a pew "hey son, are you sure you're at the right place? The healer went home a little while ago". We all laughed at that.
Can't ever get enough of Brennen Leigh! Her memories of Guy Clark are full of the sort of warmth and humour that I would expect from her.
In a little over a month Brennen will be in Adelaide, Australia with Aseelp At The Wheel. Love them both. Great interview Otis!!
What a great story. Guy Clark is one of my all time favorite songwriters and performer. Genius. I've heard other artists tell the "What else you got?"
story. Wonderful.
Brennen is great. I've shared a few gigs with her. Brennen and her brother Seth were always real nice to me.
I bought a copy of Old No. 1 on vinyl one morning online. I then went out to pay some bills. When I got home around noon that day I checked to see what I had missed on Facebook that day. The first thing I saw was that Guy had passed. That is one album that will never leave my collection.
Brennen is just plain fantastic
never heard of her before your spot. enjoyed her story, looked her up. because i'm 80 i went straight to the tune with tommy duncan in the title. my day was made listening to that soft texas swing.
Thank you so much. It’s wonderful to hear from people who knew Guy Clark.
I love Guy and I love Brennen. I wish I knew her. She is amazing. It all goes back to Townes and Lightnin'. They were the source.
Nice interview. And yes to "Instant Coffee Blues" as a masterpiece!
Sweet! I was going to suggest you talk to Brennen about Guy Clark a few months ago after I listened to an interview she and her partner, Noel, did about him.
Just saw her, Melissa Carper and Kelly Willis a couple of weeks ago. They were all so good, there wasn't enough time.
Prairie Loveletter is such a great album.
This was great. Brennen's new album has been worn out with play in my home. Thanks for remembering Ann Soyers! She was something special.
Love these anecdotes -- thank you! Really wish there was a writing session together...but so much shared regardless it seems.
@otisgibbs -- I like the structure of this interview -- how you obviously asked the questions but then edited them out. This is nothing against you or your questions -- quite the opposite, in fact: Your questions are so good that they are understandable and implied in all of her answers.
Great interview, as always!

Loved Ann and miss her, the Inn was never quite the same without her. ❤
Synergy that guy and towns had with a Susanna is quite intriguing Susanna used to say she loves guy but towns was her soulmate
@otisgibbs I just had Noel up to Door County Wisconsin for a house concert. He and Brennen have written some of the best songs I’ve ever heard, separate and together. Please try to do an interview with Noel! Thanks for this man!
Saw Guy and Susanna at the original Old Quarter in Houston ages ago. I'm pretty sure Rodney Crowell was accompanying him, but I'm real old now and the memories aren't as sharp. Guy was already somewhat of a songwriting phenom in Texas "folk" music and I was more than impressed. He was a handsome dude and the girls liked watching and listening to him. To this very day though, I all I can say is "oh Susanna". I was listening to Guy, but I was looking at Susanna. She made a big impression on a young fan. Thank you Brennen, for sharing your memories.
That's a great video. I don't know whether to pat Otis or Brennon on the back. She's either a compelling person or he's a master of the interview. I think maybe both. Of course, I'm a sucker for Guy Clark content.
❤❤❤
Why there is no feature film based on "Desperadoes Waiting For A Train" is a travesty. What an amazing story song.
@svbarr -- Agree. BTW, the scene in No Country for Old Men where the Tommy Lee Jones character goes to visit his old uncle reminds me of the scenario described in "Desperados Waiting for a Train."
LOVE THAT SCENE but when I hear that song I think "the kid" has to be much younger -- as fine as an Actor as TLJones is I see the 'kid' as 30's in my minds eye...what an amazing song. @@jeffbaker7209
