I checked it out ,, the web site is Amazing ! If you go for any reason , let it be the true story of her work , the so-called wrecking crew , ( which is untrue ) , etc . Incredible life-long musician who was ' born to play ' Thanks Otis !!
Hi Otis! I remember whose gig I played on before seeing Carol. It was for Kate Markowitz, the fantastic backup singer for James Taylor. Talk about a great weekend!
Carol Kaye is totally awesome…Alison Prestwood is also awesome! She used that pick technique on a session I produced in Nashville last year. I was so honoured to get to watch her work and she totally made the session👍🏻❤️

I absolutely love hearing about all the session musicians. There's a lot of the big-name ones featured in documentaries. But, I know there's got to be a lot of legendary artists who weren't part of the specific crew that are also amazing musician I'd love to know about. And I've seen a lot of interviews with Carol and I absolutely love her and just the way she is moving through the world
Nice job Alison. I truly enjoyed your stories. I'm sure it was quite a thrill to make friends with the great and accomplished Carol Kaye. She is such a talent.
Well, known session player actually broke down barriers. She could play with the boys ! ❤️😎 and they could play with her. They were so good all of them the wrecking crew rules literally the music of your life.😎 I wanna Carol Kaye pick ❤️ Thank you Otis for this.
I enjoyed hearing this, very informative. You mentioned her birthday - I’m a jeweler and a few years ago I made her a birthstone pendant necklace as a gift using her birthstone Aquamarine. I believe she enjoyed that and sent me some of her famous picks, cd’s and a lovely note of thanks. Made my day! 💙🤍💙
I would think that by finding out where Bernadette was recorded you could figure out who played on it. Earl VanDyke, the pianist for the Funk Bros, taught at Pershing High School just a few blocks from me in Detroit. He said that when Motown moved to LA all the Detroit musicians were left behind and out of the scene. They went back to playing at Baker's Keyboard Lounge and other places, and some, like Earl, became music teachers. Also, my principal was in a car accident later on and the person who hit him was none other than James Jamerson! Jamerson claimed responsibility for the accident and paid to have my principal's car fully repaired.
She did not play on Bernadette. You can tell that song was not played with a pick. He never played with a pick. The Funk Brothers confirmed that they played on that song along with Jamerson.
A great video here! Also, I would really love to know where to get those picks!!!! I've looked hard for that size, shape and thickness. I'm confounded that I can't find any. Confounded I tell you!
Carol is hands down the tuffest bass player from that whole scene. I haven’t heard much about her lately, but she did live out here in the uncool desert with us. To be clear the hour north of LA refers to Antelope Valley vs an hour and a half west, which refers to Joshua Tree. The best way to describe. The difference between Palmdale and Joshua tree is one is where Graham Parsons died a hipsters death in a hotel. Whereas Palmdale is where a drunk asshole behind the wheel, killed Clarence White. However, everybody at the Moose Lodge is very aware about who they’re playing with.😂 Another GEM Otis
Jermaine Jackson used a pick on some stuff!! on the Goin back to Indianna TV special. i was in total shock watching him play i think it was , stop the love you save! i'm saying to myself why is he doing that?? the other songs using his fingers..i don't get it with the J5!
Special thanks to Tom Bukovac for helping make this interview possible. You can learn more about Alison at her website. www.alisonprestwood.com/

Hi Otis! I remember whose gig I played on before seeing Carol. It was for Kate Markowitz, the fantastic backup singer for James Taylor. Talk about a great weekend!
Thanks for sharing your story! You rock! 🤗👍❤️
Alison is great. Just like Carol.
Carol played on the first MOI album, was asked back by Zappa to play sessions for the second but backed out due to lyrical content.
Carol will be immortalized in music history!❤
Thanks Otis! I love Carol! I met her when I was a boy and starting out. She held my hand and said “these are bass player hands”.
I met Carol in 1979 when she moved to Denver we’ve been friends ever since. I love her to death she’s taught me so much.
Carol Kaye is totally awesome…Alison Prestwood is also awesome! She used that pick technique on a session I produced in Nashville last year. I was so honoured to get to watch her work and she totally made the session👍🏻❤️
Carol Kaye, so important in history.
There's a vague similarity as well - I thought it was her at first! Loved this interview - thanks, Alison and Otis!
Thank you for everything Otis! Thank you for bringing these people into our lives

Love the Wrecking Crew era. Those session cats ended up being bigger stars than most of the singers they backed.
This is wonderful. I'd love to hear more Carol Kaye stories... lots more. I'd also love to hear more Alison Prestwood stories.
Alison is a Nashville treasure. Another great interview, Otis.
Good for Alison she had a large amount of training in a short amount of time. Thanks Otis.

What a kind, charming lady Ms. Prestwood appears to be. A good friend.
Thanks for this! I just bought Carol Kaye’s book and have corresponded with her. She is a wonderful person and a world of musical genius.
All true, I took lessons from Carol around 2000-2001, although you probably can't tell lol! She loved to tell her stories and it was so cool.
Great to be commented on a music legend...that is still alive!

Never heard or knew about her . According to Wikipedia she played bass on Frank Zappa’s Freak Out ! Damn …
