I’m looking at opening up my new-to-me 2000 K12RS. Recently acquired, and previous owners were not riding it much. I’m expecting that the original clutch o-ring will be dried out and leaking. Viton replacements are available that will not suffer the same fate. I probably will go ahead and replace the main engine seal, since I’ll be in there, and probably the transmission seals as well.
This video is a great resource to show the nitty gritty. Access to the trans removal is a bit less involved for the RS, but the important parts first jacking frame and dropping engine are the same. I’ll be referring to your video as I do the job. I truly appreciate such helpful documentation.

Currently owning a K1200LT and having already done the job of replacement clutch and main seal I can tell you it is nowhere as easy and fast as this video shows. It’s a real pain and something that is not enthusiastically carried out without having been forced to do it by necessity.

Thank you. Great commentary and photography. Comprehensive description of the whole process.
I have only very occasionally seen such a clear, detailed, complete and understandable {not ambiguous} description of any mechanical workshop process. The photography was organised so that it was clear where each part was intended to go with tips on areas to be cautious.
Recently, I have been considering purchase of a BMW K1200 LT. This video enabled me to understand what to look for on a used/second hand BMW K1200. It also assured me that if this job were to be required, I would be capable of undertaking the work involved.

I am hoping to get a bike by the early summer. This sort of puts me off one of these as I don't have the tools nor the work space to do this. I can only imagine what BMW UK or any garage would charge to do this. Maybe it's a reason that they are very cheap to buy.

I just bought a K12GT with a bit over 50,000 miles, so a clutch job is coming. I'm actually encouraged, this looks easier than the same job on my R1150GS.
I'm surprised not to see clamps on the airbox tubes where they connect to the throttles. Pretty sure they should have clamps.

Question, do you know why some people on the boards have a 30 mm socket with some part of it cut out for some reason? Like what's the purpose for that?
Also what speciality tools are needed for this beyond the alignment tool and would you happen to know about what clutch pieces someone usually wants to purchase for this job?
