Thanks for being so transparent with your experience. I could feel your passion and being rational at the same time. I guess at the end of the day, if we treat doing YT as a job, don’t just think about having short cuts, but we need to make thoughtful decisions. It’s important for ppl who do YT well like you to share insights with the next generation. Especially don’t make YT as fantasy if considering it as a career. Thank you Oscar.
This is all so true haha. Especially the "extremes" bit. I find that projects come all at once or not at all so it's either editing until 11pm on the verge of burning out or taking a month off to travel
While TH-cam is super exciting for those starting out, the problem isn't always about loneliness or being isolated. Lot of successful youtubers have said that the problem is that creating videos becomes mundane. Having to create constantly interesting topics, then filming, then editing. It's like waking up in the morning to go to work. It becomes stale and unmotivating. But you have no option because this is your livelihood, especially after you've quit the 9 to 5 life.
I mean...Yes? It IS a job. Idk why people think this is some fairytale life where you don't need to put in work. What I enjoy about the idea is that it scales with MY output. I hate being one of the smallest cog in some big machine, and while you're still at the whims of how TH-cam as an environment changes, the same applies to any business and any job. It's a job where what I do dictates what I get, at least to SOME degree. That's what I want. I don't want to not ever work again (altho that'd be neat) because I know how hard editing, writing and staying up to date with the YT environment is.
Great video! My day job is literally working on software for hours and then some human interaction is key as well so that part is no worries. I love editing, but filming is the hardest part for me right now. With woodworking there are constant angle movements and the simple thing of making sure the camera is actually filming at the right moments is very important because you only get one chance at critical steps, and if the camera isn't rolling it creates massive holes in the video. So I'm hiring a videographer first! Long comment I know. Dang I just made it longer...
I have 50 Subscribers right now, hopefully I’ll have more in the future but other than that, I Love editing videos! I have a blast driving cars for my videos, having challenges making my Lego creations, and other stuff like that, although I probably won’t be a full time TH-camr for various reasons and won’t just have a camera every were I go, but just remember to enjoy things in life! Stay Safe love all you guys
My aim is to go full time on my channel. Old enough to understand how to delegate having held high powered positions in companies and having people reporting to me. My concern is choosing the right niche. I have no idea if my niche is the correct one
Great Information! We all have to work at something, and nothing worth doing is easy. Really like how after all the learning there is a reward at the end and you can have the time to do the things you want to do and what excites you.
Most creator are broke compared to their real jobs. Sometimes they don't even need to grow a big channel because in this case, it will become into job and they'll lose all the fun. You have to choose a good hobby or a bad job. Because TH-cam is a good part-time job, but as a full-time job, it is unpredictable. By the way, I chose to be a full-time content creator years ago and I don't regret
Aye congrats then I guess it's really a matter of picking your poison and if the pain is worth it to you or not For some people it isn't, but quite often that pain is very much and well worth it for the communities you build with others and stuff on top of everything Those who are with you in the job actually mutually respecting you too has to be enjoyable in its own right

Great video! The conversion of work minutes to video minutes hit me hard. I hope to get to the point where it only takes me 20 minutes of work (research, script writing, media, editing, etc.), to create 1 minute of video 🙂
First we need to address "what is successful?" Are we talking multimillionaire or a comfortable life? But you made good points here. Anyway I'm tired of making blood pacts for souls and in a few weeks I'll be trying out this TH-cam thing.
New Tuber here. Thanks for the update. I can only dream of being a successful youtuber. I run a small business now, and it's almost impossible to do youtube and work my business at the same time. I'm trying though. It took me a month to get my first 100 subs, and 4 days to get my next 139, so I know it will snowball at some point. Getting there is the hard part. Must keep posting...
Thanks for your useful content! I have a lot of technical and financial questions that I never saw on TH-cam : How do you manage the work with your employees. I mean, how do you send hundred of gb of videos online ? How to manage with the creation process ? Sending or showing the results of video that are huge in gb, ask a question...? How do you pay them ? Per minutes of video ? Per activity like colorimetric or subtitles or motion graphics? Do you pay per video, per month? Independent or intern ? ....
I don't really see the problem life is a business no matter if its online or offline at some point it teaches us how it works IRL. You don't have to be on youtube as a job can do it for fun but everyone wants to treat it as a business for no reason which is kinda their fault in a way. Just enjoy having fun with your channel stop trying to make into a business all the time thats the problem everyone has so far even if you need money its still your fault treating it like a business instead of having fun enjoying youtube. Things are meant to be fun
If you want to do TH-cam as a hobby then of course do it for fun! But if it is your full time job then you need to treat it like a business. When that is the case, you need to expand, get a team, hire people, fire people etc. This isn’t the path that everyone wants to go down - totally understand if you want to keep it as a hobby. But if you wanna make a reliable income then you need to treat it like a business!
Just personal but I get tired hearing people say "TH-camr" is a job. TH-cam is a platform to upload videos. Your job is the profession you call yourself. In this guy's case. He's not a TH-camr. I agree to your point. Had better we thinks being a TH-camr is just about way to get some passive incomes or a side job with part time. You should keep your occupacion or career that gave you any prediction income in the real life.
This is very true.
He’s right. My channel was a lot of planning and thinking of what to do. However the burn out from it all is crazy!
Now I do what I enjoy ❤

Awesome video Oscar! I've only been doing this for a couple of months and understand how much you have to learn for the whole process to work!
For me, every minute of a video takes 4-5 hours of film, edit , etc (I’m Mascon Leather on yt)

Your videos are some of the best about starting and running a TH-cam channel.
Thank you for making these, Oscar. 🤝
