I would like to point out that Karasawa's damage is multiplied by your reactor's boost to energy weapons. If you run a decent reactor for energy weapons, it can do some serious damage which more than makes up for it's ammo economy.
Stack it further with energy weapon and direct hit damage boosters, and there's a good chance you can 1-shot a staggered lightweight PvP before they use their expansion.

@@senounatsuru6453 depends how you use it, for my build it was better because I didn’t have the AP to tank damage while using the charge attack so the trade off was much better
Just keep in mind you can charge your Karasawa to Level 3 while using other buttons to build the stagger. Then release Level 3 the moment stagger hits to give the opponent very little time to react with a core expansion module.
Karasawa is actually OP, same level with comet azur OP level in elden ring. The biggest advantage of this weapon is not only on its damage, but on its stagger stack. Have two of these (one on each arm), fully charged - auto stagger for medium and light ACs. Works best on big bosses regardless on how mobile as it's beam is also fairly fast, but good aiming is still required. Best done with Stun Needle Cannon - hit it with a cannon for a mini stun, then release both Kurasawa's full charge for devastating damage and stagger. You can then get another Stun Needle Cannon shot in. If that doesn't do the job, the normal shots of the Kurasawa is also fairly rapid, so you can finish it off that way too. The Downside is the damn thing is the heaviest of all arm weapons (around 10k weight for one Rifle, and there are 2), and it has limited ammo, so you have to be accurate, and there's only one set of arms that can carry 2 of these babies. Still, a very OP weapon for me. EDIT: I was wrong! There's something much better than Kurasawa! 😁
Its *Karasawa but 80 for that thing is actually quite a lot compared to previous games, in the PS1/PS2 gen AC games the Karasawa only had 40 to 50 shots which even dual wielded in the Nexus games was so heavy and the weapon itself nerfed so much that it was impractical and worthless.
It's not bad, what he didn't mention is the fire rate for uncharged shots, or the fact that uncharged is a plasma shot (so leaves an AoE on impact), the first stage charge is a laser (so moderate impact damage), and the full charge shot does HEAVY impact damage, AND the plasma AoE. Biggest downside is not much ammo, and weight. Moonlight, and the redshift variant are both just splendid, even more so together as a double melee build.
There's also a redshift version of the moonlight which is just bonkers. Not only it has a coral type damage to which there are no resistances, it just deals more swing damage than the moonlight
Karasawa in this game is a combo laser and pulse rifle, which both have different behaviors. It also literally says this in the description of the gun in game.
