    I would like to hear you talk about how loss of estrogen as women age causes skin changes, like loss of fat under the skin that plumps it up and smooths it. It's important to be realistic about these irreversible changes.

    Talking of skin irritants, I recently realised that treated tap water was the source of my perioral dermatitis. I stayed in the country washing with rain water for 3 months and it cleared up. Back to town and it flared again. I'm currently using a cask of spring water on my bathroom sink to was my face until I can install water filters in the bathroom. Just thought I'd share as it's taken years for me to find the irritant source and it might help others.

    • @db-gb5xi
      @db-gb5xi 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Dr Dray has videos on dry skin and at least one on dehydrated skin. Go See Christy (esty) has a video on this, how to treat dry or dehydrated skin. Another source says, dry skin lacks water AND oil. Dehydrated skin lacks water and overproduces oil. If you’re skin feels dry in the morning and becomes slick with oil a few hours later, or if you feel like you’ve got a slick of oil on top of a brittle, dry surface, then you’ve got dehydrated skin.

    By design, soap strips the lipid layer from the skin when removing impurities. This daily stripping depletes sebum production overtime, so you want very gentle cleansers, if any

      That's why soaps are better limited to be used only on your body rather than on face. Gentle cleansers are better as they are mild on skin since they don't strip away much moisture on our skin compared to soap's mode of action.

    • @ho-ry5uf

      @@darlynns9997 Same, actually it was my dermatologist who suggested me Dove bars and my skin is waay better since I started using them .. I have Very oily skin and "Gentle cleansers" are useless to me. I kept breaking out so badly because my face was oily all the time. I can see some people struggling with the same thing nowadays just because they keep following skincare trends and skincare youtubers/tic tokers who promote things for "sensitive dry skin" and who cringe at all the products that people use to strip skin from excessiive oils . following these people does more harm than good if you use something that isn't made for your skin type.

    You have helped me tremendously. I'm 61 years old. I've had a problem with cystic acne and extremely dry and irritated skin on chin due to ingrown hairs on chin. I tried everything my Dermatologist recommended
    but nothing worked. I've been using Obagi vitamin c serum and mostly Obagi products and retin A for night. It all worked for years then it just didn't. Anyway I've changed up my routine. I still use Retin A at night but I've ditched the Vitamin c serum and Obagi creams and I use the Cerave products and Neutrogena Hydroboost for extra dry skin etc. I followed the routine in one of your videos and I now have NO acne AT ALL or dry skin. Doing a much more thorough job with sunscreen too.
    Thank you so very much for your expertise.

    Hey Dr Dray, thank you for this video! I’ve been experiencing a lot of mental fatigue and some depression due to dealing with the coronavirus (I’m sure I’m not alone in this!) it has affecting my food and alcohol habits. I feel like I’m drinking much more than I should 😖 I would love a stand-alone video explaining how these bad habits affect the skin. I know it has been touched on in other videos, but a reminder would be helpful. I feel like I’m doing good from an outside sense, I always wear sunscreen and put moisturizer on damp skin, but I feel like I’m messing my skin up from the inside...a video showing how detrimental that is will help as a kick in the butt to jumpstart some healthier habits.

    • @nadab4750
      @nadab4750 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Hi! It's terrific that you are looking for ways to keep yourself healthy. I really hope you didn't contract Covid. Either way, you have to appreciate the health that you have and not rely on "false friends" like alcohol. I thankfully have never had a problem, but stopped drinking the one glass of wine with my meal, because my partner couldn't drink alcohol with his medication. Even doing this has helped my body and mind in too many ways to mention. Whenever you feel tempted, pick up the phone to talk to a counsellor, (non-toxic) friend or family member. Try to find a way/s that helps you...exercise/swimming, dance, music, meditation, gardening, preparing healthy meals/smoothies, pets, art/craft, helping others...or a bit of everything! Positive, cute and funny TH-cam videos are also helpful to de-stress. I always like having something to look forward to everyday e.g. Dr Dray's videos! Dr Dray does have clips where she discusses alcohol. She is the prime example of not needing alcohol to have a great personality and to enjoy life. Another TH-camr, "Nicki Positano" has helped many people escape, relax and cope over the last year with her Positano Diaries channel. Check her out too. Things will get better. Do your part to keep yourself strong, healthy and happy the so that this virus does not get the better of you.

      Drinking water will help your body overall, but you can drink literally bathtubs worth of water and it won't hydrate your skin or fix dry skin. Just saying for people that don't know.

I used to always get a fungal infection when I went inpatient even though I was washing so often, but my skin was dry and cracked. I hope you are feeling better!
