2014+ Cadillac CTS Modifications Part 3: Performance Mods

  • In this video cover performance mods for the 3rd gen (2014+) Cadillac CTS. Ok... most of the engine stuff relates to the VSport with the twin turbo V6, but a lof of the video applies to all CTS's including the CTS-V.
    Modifications:
    1. Lowering Springs. Springs and coilovers are available. Coilovers are good for all CTS models I believe. CTS-V lowering springs are proven on the VSport, but not sure how it handles the lighter 2.0 engines. Renick performance sells Swift springs and they are known to be a great performing spring. Weapon X springs are unknown brand but users are happy with them and they are cheaper than the swift springs. The drop looks similar among both. If you really want to go low, you want to get coilovers. However, if you have magride, you will need sensors to spoof the magride system so you don't get error codes. Always check with your retailers to see if they have had customers test on your your model.

    2. Brake upgrade: From my research, all CTS models can upgrade brakes to higher CTS models, including CTS-V or ATS-V.
    Stage 1: Rear brembo upgrade from ATS-V or Camaro SS - about $700
    Stage 2: Add ATS-V front brake parts - add about $1400
    Stage 3: Do CTS-V brakes all around - about $2600
    See my document outlining brake parts and FAQ: tinyurl.com/yd9xd9uj
    Upgrade your normal brakes with better pads. Ceramic pads are great for quiet and no-dust, but if you want something that can handle autox or occasional track abuse - consider Hawk HP Plus pads. For dedicated track use check out HAWK track pads, G-Loc or PFC brakes.
    A lot of street users like Powerstop. My brake rotors are Stoptech. Check out my other video on brake upgrades. • Front Brembo Brake Rot...
    3. Tires:
    My tires: Bridgestone Potenza RE71R. Front: 255/35/19 Rear: 265/35/19 (trying to keep front and rear balanced, but you can go bigger)
    Other recommended tires:
    Michilen Pilot Sport 4S (summer only) or AS for all season
    Continental Extreme Contact DW. I've hit 1.9 60' launches on these tires in run flat form.
    4. Sway bars - VSports can take ATS-V sway bars. A believe all CTS's can take a rear ATS-V or CTS-V sway bar (they are the same). The CTS tends to understeer a bit so rear sway bar is all that's necessary, but Renick Performance ATS-V sway bar package has bigger bars over stock PLUS the rear is bigger than the front. The issues with other CTS models is I believe the front sway bars may be a different shape to accomodate the different engines. The 3.6 should be fine, but not sure about the 2.0.
    Renick bars: tinyurl.com/yctmmb8l
    Hard Race ATS-V Sway Bars: tinyurl.com/y3q86gbj
    Not listed on their site, contact for pricing and ordering
    OEM CTS-V/ATS-V sway bar: Order from 404parts.com - Part #84008631
    See my other video on installing a rear sway bar: • Sway Bar Upgrade: Cadi...
    5. Alignment: Should be able to get 1.7-1.8 degrees depending on rims and tires. More camber results in less understeer. However your wheels will tuck under the fender and some people don't like how that looks. That's why I run wheel spacers.
    Vorshlag Camber Kits - not out yet
    6. Exhaust work:
    I was running Renick Performance ATS-V downpipes. They required welding to attach to CTS VSport exhaust. Those specific pipes are no longer available. Trifecta had resonated DP's but they were only prototypes and no longer available. This mod is a waste of money in my opinion.
    Magnaflow or Gibson mufflers. Corsa or GM Axle back. Some people complain that the Corsa is too loud and some drone, but when you add quad tips the sound is better.
    Corsa for 3.6 and VSport: amzn.to/3aj5WMR
    GM performance for VSport: tinyurl.com/ycmmxlpn
    My dual resonators: No longer available
    My exhaust tips: Search ebay for: Quad exhaust tip 2.5 3.5 for Infiniti Q60 Q70 Q50 M35 M45 FX37 FX45 G25 G37 FX50
    7. Intake: This is another expensive mod for little return.
    Check out the ZZP intake: zzperformance.com/products/zz...
    My intake - I don't have a complete how to but I have a video on how to make small modifications to your stock intake: • ZZP Intake Install | C...
    8. Trifecta tune: The only tune known to tune the TCU as well. Don't even bother getting a custom tune. I promise, no matter how experienced your local tuner is with crazy amazing cars, it's unlikely they will be able to tune the VSport. If they can, it probably won't be as easy, cheap, and consistent as Trifecta. www.trifectaperformance.com

    Hey everyone! It’s been a year since this video was made and a lot has changed!! It turns out there is power to be gained form downpipes and the intake we are still on the fence about. The good news is Justin Schmidt of Schmidty tuning has taken the VSport to another level with his custom tuning and now E85 blend tunes. Your VSport can be about as fast as a CTS-V3 with 93 pump gas or run 10s quarter miles on upgraded fueling and turbos from the ATS-V (maybe without - we will see!).

      Not many changes since this post a year ago. No big records broken but people finding the best combination of fuel mods to push the most E85. At this time there ATS-V turbos are the best deal for power after tuning. Other turbos like TurboBay aren’t necessarily better

      Can we get a 2024 update video I just got a 2014 cts v sport I'm trying to get alot more power out of it then 420 hp😂 I bought it at auction for almost nothing at the time I thought I had a V8 never knew about the v sport until I got it home and started it and said WTF this doesn't sound right😂😂😂😂 and finally read the engine cover and realized it said twin turbo it can't be this is supercharged so anyway now I'm stuck with something I didn't really want trying to find More power😎 but nothing on TH-cam really about it.

    • @JetFuelOnly
      @JetFuelOnly  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Oh wow I’m sorry for the confusion! You will have this car running faster than a CTS-V in no time. Here’s what you do
      In order of priority:
      Tune by Schmidty tuning
      Downpipes
      E85 sensor and tuning updated to allow a blend of E85.
      Skip the intake, skip blow off valves.
      Want more? - upgrade fuel system and then maybe upgrade to ATS-V turbos if you want to go big.

    First off, I love your videos man!! You're one of the reasons why I will be buying a low mile for the year, fully loaded 2016-2018 CTS V-Sport now that my insurance totaled my modded '15 Infiniti Q50 3.7 Premium RWD after hitting a large deer at 55 mph. It's not a deal breaker, but I am surprised to hear that a forced induction motor making 420 HP @ the crank doesn't respond well to mods? F/I engines usually respond to mods much better than N/A motors. I know this isn't an apples to apples comparison lol, but before Procharging my old naturally aspirated 2003 C5 Corvette Z06 in 2005, on a hot summer day, my Z06 picked up over 50 HP at the wheels with a Vararam CAI, LG Pro 1-7/8" LT Headers with a 3" Metal Matrix HF Catted X-Pipe, and a custom Dyno Tune when it was bone stock. I have friends who supercharged their 328 HP Infiniti Q50 3.7 like mine, plus added many other mods and they have been daily driving/ racing their Q50's with over 500 HP at the crank on their stock bottom ends with no issues other than upgrading to the same Level 10 bulletproof 7 speed auto trans my Q50 had. Mine didn't need it making just over 400 HP @ the flywheel with my mods, but I got a great deal on a used Level 10. I planned on supercharging my Q50 before hitting the deer. I love the CTS V-Sport... Especially the 2016 because I want an aftermarket quad tip exhaust system like your V-Sport. Yous looks and sounds incredible!!!! Keep up the good work! As soon as I find and buy a fully loaded in the exact year, color and mileage CTS V-Sport, I will start making videos of the car and let you know. Thanks again! Sorry for the long comment, by the way.
    -Chris

    Great videos! Amazing car. I love what you’ve done to it. I have a ‘14 vsport and it’s definitely my favorite car of all that I’ve owned over the years. Looking now for an ultra-low mileage ‘18 or ‘19 to replace it. It’s the ultimate sleeper.

    I was considering a cts v sport. But I really really have always wanted an ats. The v sport was only few thousand more then the ats I just bought. But I’m so happy and I really think I made the right choice. So I’m now in the process of making my ats in to my interpretation of if Cadillac made an ats v sport.

    Great video! Since you seem to be a SME on the platform, whats the widest wheel/tire combo you can run on the Vsport platform? Is it the same wheelwells as the CTS-V?

    • @JetFuelOnly
      @JetFuelOnly  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The front fenders are slightly narrower than a V. So putting V tires and wheels up front may result in some rubbing.
      Can’t say exactly what fits where as you may know Offset makes all the difference. D3 once proclaimed with the right offset (one probably custom) they fit 305 rears. I think the larger rears I see may have been up to 10.5-11” rim and 295s. Wider than 9” up front is tough to find too with more than 265.

    Great video Danial! Is there a reason why alignment should be 1.7~? Just for understeer? I don't think they've done that to mine in any of my alignments but I'm replacing both control arms, so I'll need another one. Thank you (edit also, the same seller we used for our infinity exhaust tips now has a listing labeled under VSport as well)

    • @DMAX-ed7pq
      @DMAX-ed7pq 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Just bought a vsport myself. Looking into an extended warranty. GM wants 7500 for 5 years or 60k miles! May go Route 66. I’ve had them in the past with our BMW and never had any issues. Cost for them is 2500 for 6 years or 100k miles. Not to
      Shabby. I’m located in so cal if that matters any for rate comparisons

    • @JetFuelOnly
      @JetFuelOnly  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Trifecta claims their tune isn’t visible but after an engine or transmission failure the car will be checked for signs of after market tune. We don’t know but suspect they could find something. Installing and removing a trifecta tune is so easy that you can do it before taking it to the dealer. They really won’t find anything unless they look. But nodding always involves risks of partial warranty loss.

    1 question plzzzz… i know car tuning is not good but! For my 2014 xts twin do you recommend me to make little bit tuning on the turbo boost? Cuz man its limited in summer .. i live in gulf and this thing makes me wait to enjoying only in winter

    • @JetFuelOnly
      @JetFuelOnly  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don’t believe anyone is tuning the XTS VSPORT. But if anyone could do it, it would be Schmidty Tubing.
      If you are having issues in the heat, make sure your intercooler coolant is topped up. It’s separate from the engine coolant.

    • @JetFuelOnly
      @JetFuelOnly  ปีที่แล้ว

      Are you taking about rear calipers? You need the rotors to match. The dust shield will need to be trimmed or replaced (replaced involves a lot of work). You may or may not need a new banjo bolt for each. Some people say it’s different others not.

    • @JetFuelOnly
      @JetFuelOnly  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have not looked into it! However, with the new ECU architecture, there aren’t any tunes yet. However, people are using a piggyback system called JB4 Blackwings. Look into it and see if it’s useful for your engine. Just like the other Cadillacs it’s unlikely to make any extra power without a tune as the computer sets specific torque limits in the programming.

    • @JetFuelOnly
      @JetFuelOnly  ปีที่แล้ว

      There’s only two tunes to choose from. Trifecta or Schmidty. Trifecta is cheaper and simpler to install. Schmidty costs more because you need to buy software and pay for his services. But you will get a lot more power and options to gain more power as you change mods. Trifectas best price is usually a Black Friday sale. Other than that Schmidty tune will be a couple hundred more than Trifectas regular pricing.

    Can you turbo charge the stock 2014+ 3.6 engines? I mean can you add a turbo into the regular 2014+ 3.6?
    I see some supercharger kits for the older models but what about running low boost under 7psi on these newer models, Can they handle it with the stock engine and tuning? They seem to be solid engines

      I haven’t heard of it but many things are possible. Not sure if there’s room for traditional turbos but if you aren’t making a lot of boost I like the SC idea best myself. Have you checked with Camaro guys? Has anyone TC’d?

    • @adamhayden5152
      @adamhayden5152 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I haven’t looked at what Trifecta has available for your model but I can tell you that the Thorton chip is giving you false feelings and does nothing for the car. If anything throttle response is different and can make you feel like the car is faster because every bit of pedal you apply it amplifies but still can’t give you more than 100%.

    So if the ECU pulls power back using the waste gate or throttle position, can't you just get a TPS mod that imitates your exact throttle position (like a cable), then just control your boost with a manual boost controller? Its probably worth customizing the headers to make 1 un-equal and then running the dump off of that. 1 un-equal runner would give it the 350z sound.

    • @JetFuelOnly
      @JetFuelOnly  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, the ECU is smarter than that, it has many pathways to control the parameters. Also, no headers on a turbo car. :)

      Most important thing is that they are short. Not a lot of room between stock muffler and outlet. I believe 3.5” outlets work with the add on and the V diffusers. I do suggest confirming with Savage Cadillac, besides reviewing the product I do not have affiliation with them.

      Not much that will get you any power unfortunately. There is a company that makes a supercharger kit.
      It’s just not the best car for performance mods, I would just focus on appearance stuff.

    So I’ve got a 2014 CTS 2.0 .. can I do a engine swap with the 3.6 turbo or the v8?

    • @Dantheman3366
      @Dantheman3366 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Honestly to a 3.6 shouldnt be that hard at all. any engine swaps gonna be a good amount of time but other than the engine mounts and how everything else lines up to account for the twin turbo setup you have already. However i do believe the CTS-V has a longer hood and overall different body style so that V8 may be harder im also not sure if theyre mounted on the same trans so thats another thing to consider. although the 2.0TT and 3.6 are the same body style if you really wanted an engine swap id say that would be the easiest route. though at that point just trade in yours for a 3.6 and a few grand or more miles on the car.

      @@gasout.dav2174 first off the 2.0LTG does great with mods as it’s essentially a revised and updated LNF which is a revised an LSJ so that he punks your whole statement secondly the CT4 2.0 turbo LSY which is a different turbo and a different engine in the LTG that one doesn’t do very well with mods because it was designed that way. And as for Modding performance wise you’re 2.5 it’s not even worth your time nor worth your money and it does not sound good.

    • @JetFuelOnly
      @JetFuelOnly  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lowering springs may not lower the car properly with a different engine weight. Brake/tire upgrades can be done to any CTS. Sway bars can be installed on the rear for sure, but not sure if there's other interference up front with a different CTS engine. Exhaust needs to be custom for other CTS models, can't use Vsport or CTS-V parts. I suggest just getting mufflers. Intake won't fit.
