Todd, I've heard very good things about the EMD Pure spoiler, most of which how it fits very well. Unfortunately, I was in no position to spend that kind of additional funds after my first locally made CF spoiler did not fit perfectly.
You're correct. It's a rubber wheel that removes vinyl and 3M taping. I had one before but honestly, was afraid it would ruin my paint so I gave up on it.
Angel, this wing was purchased over 2 years ago and frankly, there may be better versions out there. I would search eBay and see what you're able to find. This copy I installed, was not the best.
R V, you want to put the adhesive promoter on the car AND on the spoiler itself. Once you've done that, then you can first put the tape on the spoiler, then attach it to the car.
Try using a polishing compound where the stain is. Rub it in and use some pressure to "break" the stain loose. Then wipe it down with a quick detailer spray.
Is it possible to reuse the previous spoiler with all the used 3m tape on it for another vehicle? If so, could you just replace the tape on the previous spoiler or you would need to completely remove the old tape? Then place new tape?
Hi Peter I have a question for you...does the catless downpipe make your car have a engine check light..because I'm going to install my jb4 but I want to know before I buy the downpipe..
Hello Shane, great qustion. A couple of the drivers you see are impact rated and I use those to impact nuts off. Others are simply screw turners....it was the only place I could sort all the tools together.
11:55 immediately after placing it down, you start repeatedly pulling the spoiler up and down, pulling it away from the surface. All videos I have seen say just to push down on it. Is there a reason you were wiggling it so hard? Thanks
Hey, do you know anything about the carbon fiber spoiler from Winn autosport? The place you ordered your front lip from. I'm looking to get a spoiler that has oem fit and EMD is always sold out. :(
CJ, Winn Autosport basically sells the same rear spoiler. I am local to them and have seen both EMD and Winn. Just be prepared for a very slow purchasing process with Winn.
@@KIDOFCLIPS be patient with the order from Winn. If they have it locally, it should be pretty quick to send out. Regarding installing a RS style grill, yes, I have thought about it but have heard stories of S3 owners who received grills which did not fit properly. I may take the plunge one day.
Xavier, unfortunately, you cannot move it without having to pull things back up. My suggestions would be, using tape, mark the location where you want the lip to rest. Then slowly work from one edge to the other while peeling the adhesive.
Akber, surprisingly, the spoiler has held out well! The heat, rain, washes, etc has not damaged the clear coat at all, nor is there any fading. I do though, coat it with quick detailer every time I wash it.
Brandon, I used industrial grade adhesive so the lip is on securely and would easily survive car washes. You would literally need to pry it off. As far as having someone lean on it, it could take the force, but I would not recommend it.
John, I am glad to hear that the video gave you a bit of confidence to perform the work. It's not tough at all, just a little tedious. Take your time and have a 2nd pair of hands to help you realign.
@Eddie, the OEM lip is an understated design which isn't bad. Since I have a few CF parts on, I wanted a bit more of an agressive looks, thus the change.
Other than the outside edges having a little gap, spoiler looks nice. Could always use some sort of black or charcoal colored foam adhesive filler for the gaps and then wipe away excess. eBay purchase? What’s the sellers name? Sweet DIY, thanks!
Mark, much appreciate the comment because I thought the sides didn't look too good. Here is the link from eBay: www.ebay.com/itm/FOR-14-18-AUDI-A3-S3-SEDAN-V-TYPE-HIGHKICK-CARBON-FIBER-REAR-TRUNK-SPOILER-WING/172876021234?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649
Good install instructions, I am looking to pick up one for my S3 as well, where did you purchase yours? I recently ordered the same CF side mirror caps and will be installing those once they arrive. Thanks for your vid's.
Thanks for watching and the support. The rear wind was purchased off of eBay, but I would not recommend the one I bought. Fitment as you can see, was not precise.
@@TheAutomotiveFanatic I finally install my carbon fiber spoiler, went with one from EMD, which was a good fit for the S3. I was curious if there will always be a little bit of flex on the spoiler after install? I can move my spoiler a little when I pull on it, not sure if that is normal, or if there should be no movement after the install with 3M and adhesion promoter.
Video First 3 min summary : - I ruined my trunk with an expensive locally made CF spoiler that didn't fit, at this point just trying to put a spoiler, * any spoiler* back on my trunk so that i can forget about the whole ordeal. I am reaching nervous break point. Totally understand !!
Most of these products are coming from China and due their affordability car enthusiasts buy them. I had same issue when fitting an X5 F15 rear boot spoiler. The edges on both sides don’t sit flush and I don’t think applying extra adhesive will help - theres approx. 2/3mm gap on the edges. Probably won’t fit it & try to return!
That little space your taking about is there for a purpose just as your factory had the same space. Air should be able to get in and out there should have been two small holes under your spoiler. Why is that because when it’s super hot out that spoiler will expand and if it can’t release the hot air within itself it will bubble and warp and will be no good. That is the reason for that little space so air can escape from the two very small holes under the spoiler. If you for some reason covered those up with tape then be prepared to replace it after a hot summer or if your like me I live in Florida so it’s hot all year it won’t be long before it’s trash. I can send you pics of a spoiler that was installed with those holes covered and show you. If you purchase a aftermarket non carbon fiber spoiler but one like yours that is plastic carbon material and you don’t see two small breather holes then drill some but be careful not to drill through your spoiler. ATTENTION if you bought a real carbon fiber spoiler don’t even try drilling it you will crack it. Takes special drill bits and an expert to do so but you don’t have to worry if it’s really true carbon fiber it doesn’t need breather holes. Unfortunately we have all seen what happens to plastic that has sat in the Sun they don’t do so hot no pun intended lol. Only reason your factory spoiler doesn’t need to breath is because it’s not hollow like these after market ones can be.
You're correct Sea Bass. The actually work of "cutting" through the OEM lip adhesive took over an hour, required me to heat the lip, as well as grab new fishing line roughly 20-30 times. I did not want to subject viewers to that lengthy, mundane process. I did though, offer instructions @ 4:48 to help viewers through the removal.

Caskle, thanks for the kind comments. I have a rear black rings which I will do shortly. Any other suggestions, feel free to let me know!
So with that I would have to just live with it..because if I clair the code it's coming back..thanks
My spoiler came from the factory, along with the rear view mirror caps. Expensive but very nice.
Factory is the best!
Nice vid, curious how this spoiler has held up over time?
I sold the S3 a while back and cannot comment on it's longevity.
Great video. Would have been nice to see footage of removal of adhesive with gloop gone with time taken, etc.
Drew B, others have said this as well so I will take that under consideration the next time I have to remove an OEM body part.
there's a part that you put on a drill something like an eraser disc that get that stuff off without hurting the paint.
You're correct. It's a rubber wheel that removes vinyl and 3M taping. I had one before but honestly, was afraid it would ruin my paint so I gave up on it.

Excellent video! Thank you so much. God Bless You!

Can you tell me where you got the spoiler please?
This particular spoiler was purchased on eBay.
