Dry ice would've helped you out a lot. 3m vhb is only sticky to about 0 C or 32F. Dry ice gets to -78C or -109F. Just put it on top of the part and wait a couple mins and pull off. Any remaining tape can be frozen and broken off with that panel separator. That's how we do it at our shop. No scratches or mess. Hope this helps in the future
can you do this for a duckbill spoiler? wouldn't cooling the CFRP damage it as well? i'm afraid the clearcoat and plastic will become really brittle and get stress fractures easily when pulling off the spoiler...
@@steinway325 Honestly, ...I use dental floss to cut though the tape and then I use goo gone...no scratches and comes off easy...the tape that is left can be heated along with the good gone...I would NEVER use the tool he used...
I had to remove some side skirts that me and my boyfriend installed because the 3M tape was pulling away in spots. I got 99% of the tape off my car, but need to get it off the side skirts so that I can reapply 3M tape and put them back on the car. Thank you so much for this video, I just ordered this rubber wheel from Amazon.
Straight and to the point. Thanks! Exactly what I was looking for. I have some large chrome plates I want to take off my truck and your video guided me in the right direction.
I had some things attached to painted surfaces on my house with 3M tape, and after using dental floss to detach them, I could not figure out how defeat the black residue without destroying paint. Tried a heat gun and lost the battle. Your recommendation of the Wonder Wheel was the game changer, and all is good now. I only wish I'd known about that device when I removed the cheesy pinstriping that came on my car a dozen years ago, where I spent hours instead of minutes removing all traces. Thank you so much for this great video.
I’m with you. Not a fan of the vortex generator. I’d rather it be on the rear window. Not a fan on crap stuck to paint. Using 3m adhesive remover once I use fishing line. Cool vid bro. 👍🏼
Thanks a ton! Removing aftermarker louvers from a car I just bought, was afraid of damaging the paint. Seeing you muscle that vortex generator off gives me confidence she'll be fine.
To remove the piece of trim simply slide a length of strong nylon fishing string underneath and slide it back and forth, cutting through the tape. Straightforward and doesn't cause damage to paintwork or the trim.
The real best method lol. Braided fishing line works best. Also eraser wheels are the shit.... just keep it moving because you CAN burn through the paint
Use a mono filament fishing line to "saw through" the adhesive tape. If you pull on the part you are removing you can stretch it out of shape or break it. The heat gun can distort the plastic part as well.
I appreciate it bro! Gotta remove my window vents on my Pontiac. They been on there awhile. Got new replacements. Hopefully the rubber wheel with do the job..
Thanks much! This cam in very handy. I used this technique on a guitar- wood surface, to remove a custom armrest that had become cracked. Different surface, mostly the same technique. That regular double side tape that came with the armrest was not very secure and as it heats up from your arm it slides gradually down the surface of the guitar. 3M auto tape to the rescue! Except that if the overhang of the armrest becomes cracked from being bumped (my fault) you are then faced with removing the tape from a very delicate surface, also with a clearcoat. Thanks for the quick but detailed video demo of this! It saved me from spending about 150.00 at a guitar shop.
Nice. I didn’t even know those erasers existed lol. Fishing line or dental floss in a ‘sawing’ motion works great on getting underneath whatever u are removing for the initial item removal part also… especially for rain guards which might crack when flexing or wings and spoilers that won’t bend and will be hard to get under with a heat gun
To remove 3m, any rubber attachment for a conventional drill or screwdriver is suitable. Even a rubber T bolt spacer will work for attaching the toilet barrel. And you don't need to buy any "special" attachments! You can also use a regular nippel from car camera, its end part is made of rubber.
I have a Spoiler King Rear window visor. I'm currently taking the old 3M tape off and it's leaving pieces of the foam tape on the back, will this pad help take the remaining stuck foam tape off. They removed my Rear window visor when I was getting a new paint job done. And Spoiler King put glue on the visor and stuck the tape onto the visor so it's harder to pull the tape off.
I put on a AVS bug deflector on my 2019 Tundra. I did it today and realized it's not centered. It has 3M adhesive on the hood. I live in South Florida and we get a lot of heat, will it be safe to take off the bug deflector with the 3M adhesive without damaging my paint??
This video was great for on the paint surface but I’m trying to clean the plastic piece to put it back on another vehicle. I used the eraser and it leaves a residue I can’t clean off. I also tried acetone and it’s still not working easily..
Same thing happened to me bro what I found to fix it was very simple, I washed my car so the rubber wheel couldn’t rub any dirt on the paint and it didn’t scratch my car
Instead of buying a panel removal tool, I was able to get away with using a plastic spatula from the kitchen utensil drawer. A few swipes of car wax for clean up and it was good to go.
Thanks! I have a lot of 3m foam tape all around a window that was smashed. It was holding a tarp over while i was sourcing a new window. The Decal Remover Eraser Wheel will hopefully get it removed quickly.
Awesome video! I messed up mine :( the aligning part with antana and didn’t watch video prior wish I did but my question is; if I uninstall it am I able to reinstall it again? Or should I purchase another lol Thank you so much!
Nobody replied to you so I’d say get everything off and reapply new adhesive or buy a new one since it’s probably messed up from pulling it off and it’s not straight anymore
Same situation for me. My friend was doing one side and I was doing the other. He told me his side was good and I looked after I pulled the tape and it wasn’t -_- I just left it lol
man this is my first time messing with tools but does anyone know how to fit the winder wheel attachment onto the drill itself? the drill and attachment provided in the package does not fit
I’m not going on a tear because it just isn’t my place and not my car. Don’t know if this does any good anyway. Seems to me that it was shabbily installed. If they had of installed it like you did in your previous vid, this may have been a non issue, but it is tacky looking after I saw it off so who cares? Not hard to get off really based on your vid. If it isn’t of any use, good riddins! Keep your vids up dog, you got this down!
I plan on buying a rear window visor/spoiler which uses 3M tape to hold. Would 3M tape actually hold the visor? I fear it will blow away in high winds or something.
@@akqjtn thanks for the response. Why’d you end up taking it off? Any particular reason? I’m still a bit hesitant to buy it. I have a 21 Camry XSE. If you happen to know of any good places to buy one at please lmk.
he DID say that the older the tape, the harder it is. Ive had this happen before. I didn't have a rubber wheel at the time, but I used rubbing compound and about 3000 grit sanding paper in extreme moderation and was able to get off a sunroof lip. I put down a new one, though, so while there was some slight discoloration from doing the above (I DID apply wax before I put down the new overhang to protect the paint again) you couldn't see it.
Great video, quick question. If I have it applied on a car's roof that is VINYL wrapped, how would I go about removing the double side tape? I have shark fins installed, but want to remove them, the roof of the car is vinyl wrapped though...THANK YOU
Eraser wheel is useful on paint without damaging, but! DO NOT use it on chrome strip! Door frame, side strip wherever, never use it on this kind of surface! Is there anybody can help me to remove the adhesive on chrome strip? My door visor left those tape there.
Hmm, ok, pretty much a logical way BUT what if its on a tank on a motorbike, for instance, that you can't apply heat to? That's why I'm searching, i have heated grips, i installed them, then thought I'd start customising the panels and fairings, so i want to get the thermostat to the grips, that i stuck on the inlet panels, so i need to get it off so i paint them, but i also want to replace the tank pad as well, but obviously it's on the fuel tank and you can't really risk using any kind of heat like a hair dryer or heat gun to loosen the glue to get it off, hence he looking for a video of how and what to use to get it off...
great video, very informative - but, ah, if that's a Subaru you don't need a whale-tail to keep it on the road...I know I owned one! Thanks for the video
Man if only this video came out last week, because my dumbass decided to cut off 3m with a razor blade on the window frame. My blowdryer didn’t have enough heat so it was my last resort. Luckily my new rain guards cover most of the damage...
This is what i do.......Use a old tooth brush & diesel to soak the old 3 M tape properly. Let it soak for 5 minutes or so & gently rub the soaked tape with a dry cloth & ur old 3M tape is removed.
First off you should have had heavy gloves on using heat gun, then not have to worry about burning your hands, and would have been easy to heat and pull..

@@SylvesterPotter that is the method i would go with as well. i've always used fishing line but dental floss is a great idea too
Science right there!
Yeah but how do you do it if it is on a vertical surface?

Goo Gone works amazing as well, just apply n let it soak for a few minutes and it wipes right off

yes he definitely did it the hard way

I removed my spoiler using twine. Worked wonders! But pretty much any thin strong durable string would work, even dental floss!
WD40. That's all you need. Let it soak in a few minutes and you can just wipe it off. Might take twice if it's thick. And WD 40 won't harm your paint.
I appreciate it bro! Gotta remove my window vents on my Pontiac. They been on there awhile. Got new replacements. Hopefully the rubber wheel with do the job..

Fishing line underneath helps as well.

@@Andreas16375 you can if you are REALLY sure (are you sure?) you don't (REALLY REALLY sure?) care about the paint.
