That was the best tutorial I have seen so far, and I have made rookie mistakes in the past with these. Great tips on a clean install process. Ironically, I am installing on an M4 as well this time (& don't want a sketchy job).
Thanks for the video, it helped me install my carbon fiber spoiler. I was curious if there will always be a little bit of flex on the spoiler after install? I can move my spoiler a little when I pull on it, not sure if that is normal, or if there should be no movement after the install with 3M.
u needed 3m and car adhesive that’ll lock it in I had mine redone bc the sides kept lifting w just tape but it never moved after i did a quick layer of adhesive w it
@@sa-iu1cc I did use the adhesion promoter along with the 3M, and there is still a little bit of play, but that's if I am pulling down on it with a little force, which I am told is to be expected. Been almost a year and spoiler is still in tact!
I live in a hot environment where the tape does not work because of the heat summertime every year without fail is there a better way to mount the spoiler??
Great video. 8 ordered that same spoiler myself & used the 3M tape but I pulled too hard on one corner (the right side) & I pulled the film off the tape & now I got a small gap on that corner 😢. IDK what to do 2 fix it. I don't want to pull the entire spoiler off. If that's Even possible with the 3M tape. Please lmk if there's a way 2 fix just that small 1/8 corner
Same thing happened to me. I think I might just buy U-POL Black Tigerseal and squeeze some in the corner that is lifting. May need to use masking tape around the edge on the body of the car for a few minutes in case some seeps out.
I came here to see how to install mines on my v2 without drilling holes. There are plenty of them online, even a few on eBay all have great fitment as well.
Probably late now but for anyone else with this question, yes its best to do it on a warmer day or apply a little heat to the body and spoiler so you get better adhesion. Just a normal hair dryer will do as it does not need to be piping hot.
Your instructions and guides online advise to buff/polish the car beforehand but all you did was clean it with alcohol. Won't it peel and lift over time without a proper buff of the trunk?
Just clay bar it and use 3m adhesion promoter it will stick like crazy. I used a 1/4" spot to test it with adhesion promoter and it was stuck on to the point I got scared it would break the spoiler
Just like car emblems or side moldings on a car, you don't see those things peeling off, that tape is seriously strong. But the fake tapes can be very bad, so always use 3M VHB (very high bonding) tape, and if you have a roller use it before you peel the backing off, and after you attach the trim to the car.
I have a trunk lid spoiler for a 2001 S2000. There is a slightly raised lip around the exterior of the base of the spoiler and then the rest of the base is recessed. Question is, do I place the 3M tape on the raised lip (which is only 1/4 inch wide) or do I place the tape on the edge of the recessed area? I've placed a test piece of tape on the recessed area, and it looks to sit flush with the raised lip. Any help, advice would be appreciated. Thanks.
Hey Jeff, we don't work on S2000's here unfortunately but our tech recommends to mock the spoiler up on the vehicle, find which parts make contact to the actual trunk, and apply tape and promoter there on those areas.
@@brick9233 Hey! We use 3M VHB tape here paired with the promoter. It is essential that you clean the surface with rubbing alcohol and apply the promoter before in order to ensure a proper adhesion.
@@RWCarbon why? The issue is I have one of ur spoilers and followed all the steps but some areas in the middle lifted. So I was thinking about sealing the gaps with black silicone
WTF ??? . You NEVER tape any form of body mouldings on a car that is just a big no no. Heat exertion softens the adheaive on the tape and makes it so easy too remove . I hope that was a cheap spoiler . You should be using Upol Tigerseal not 3M Tape
I think this is the best video how-to for tape-applied trunk spoilers. Well done!

going to do this soon, wouldnt doubt it to ever fly off but its the only thing in the back of my mind right now lmao
Nah, that adhesive is like concrete once it dries. It's the same stuff tthat holds your emblems on and those last hundreds of thousands of miles.
@@pedrorodrigueziii4859 Is it possible to safely remove again? Like with a heat gun or something?
@@ShamanNoodlesyes it will leave some residue but you should be able to remove it pretty easily.

Which 3M adhesion promoter do you recommend? I couldnt tell which one you used in the video
I was nervous to install my spoiler😭 but It looks good 👍🏼
Hi, I ordered a spoiler and it doesn’t fit. Do I have to bent it and if I do, how do I do it?
Does the car need to sit after application for some period of time? Or, once it is installed it can be driven?

How long should you wait before driving after install?
When installed properly with 3M and promoter, you should not have to wait.

How do you take this off?
Ur not supose too
Pull it off. It will come off. OR take a fishing line and drag it under the product. You will have to clean your car from the adhesive.
