Also, i will also say, this is very much studio track layed down ontop of the January Live show(watched the January rebroadcast and you can see where they pulled shots from). As we found out when the album was released they held back the heavier songs rather than putting them out as singles. And yes the Kami's were there playing live along with the girls, but on a different stage. These shows are available to watch on a different platform BTW . Of the official live videos they've put out none that have live audio, they're saving that for Blu Rays that will be out soon. If you want to hear them live there's been an avalanche of fancams from last night's show in the UK where they just started touring Europe with Sabaton, and I'm sure there'll be a lot more to come. As far as this song goes it's seems to be a call back to their J-pop roots and it sounds much better live with the Kami's doing their thing with the music as you would expect them to 🦊🤘
Kobametal's original vision for BABYMETAL was for it to be a Metal Dance Unit and we've recently seen them move towards that original concept as the members have become adults. They try to strike a fine balance not to upset certain people too much. I think you will like "Mirror Mirror" much better, it's also from the latest album. The official video has the studio track, as is expected, but it also includes a few brief shots of the band to still the angst of some people.
Koba just wanted to make a new youthful metal. the dancing bit was almost incidental and he thought it would be a fun twist, but Koba said he is a metal fan and that was the main focus. as the girls say, album 1 was their business card and album 2 was their more mature and focused theme as to what they are as a band. I'll believe that over their new latest Koba meddlings. You don't court an audience and get them involved only to then flip the script and not get blowback.
I'm sure by now you are aware of what is going on here, but I'll add some to this. Yes, you are watching a real live performance of this song that was filmed at a January concert. The same concert where the "Metal Kingdom" performance was filmed. The studio tracks are just overlayed for the music video. These are not the first time you've reacted to them this way, though. The video you reacted to for "THE ONE" is the same way. Real performance footage with the studio track added specifically only for the music video. As always, great reaction and analysis.
Thanks for sharing this and appreciating their job at the studio. SuMetal said recently this is one of the hardest song when recording. Yesterday they released The One Unfinished Version at The First Take, since you already know the full version of this which is The One - Stairway To Living Legend i don't think is necessary a reaction. When you watch a video from the BabyMetal official page, unless they write "live" like they did in Road of Resistance, it's always the studio audio. You are right, definitely a disco feel especially in this studio version - the live version brings the Kami Band into play (also Su's live vocals of course) and is a big improvement. This song leans a long way towards the pop end of the BABYMETAL sliding scale, but as I said, the live slides it back at least a little way towards the other end of the scale. I could not avoid disco when I was a lot younger ... much as I tried, it was everywhere and unavoidable and I just did not like it at all. This song was my least favourite on a first listen of the album because of that - but with repeated listens I have come to appreciate it more and having since heard the live version it is a lot better. As below, this was not filmed as a music video, it was a live performance, no retakes, no lip sync or anything like that - it is a live performance and they have just dubbed the studio audio on top ... that is how BABYMETAL do their MVs. If you listen to the studio versions of babymetal, you would miss a lot of things. Not only performance standpoint, but also musical standpoint. That is the reason why I buy their live albums and keep studio albums only for my collection. And it is also the reason why I don't like someone requesting the studio versions.
I can't believe people is still suggesting you official music videos! They clearly don't understand that you prefer raw live performances. This one was live too, but the official MV has the studio version audio, so nobody was really lip syncing.
Oh dave, i've heard the new songs live, and let me tell you, even though i agree with your opinion of the studio songs, the live versions do blow them out of the water, even metal kingdom
I respect the wonderful heartfelt reaction and the gentlemanly commentary that accompanies it. Babymetal don't lip sync. I just created a MV using live footage. She sings well live. The question, which is unrelated to your commentary, is what is meant by lip-syncing. When BABYMETAL performs live, there is always a manipulator in the PA space to supervise the whole. In the BABYMETAL live scene, the manipulator is another BABYMETAL.
I wasn't even going to give Light & Darkness a chance, after hearing the 1st 15 seconds! Seeing your review of it changed my mind, in that I got to hear the whole song. It really does have great, unique vocal arrangements! I love it now! Cheers!
@@THEDavidHeretic Be warned, don't think you are getting what you have see previously with the epic Japanese shows. If they are playing in the LA Arena, yes, you will get a close rendition, but smaller venues, you still get a great show but nothing compared to what you have seen and reviewed from Japan.
@@Glynthepin but i think he will like the more close and personal feel of a smaller show although i want to see a Japan show i loved the 3 shows i have seen them in 🤔🤘🏼🦊
@@martinmetal7481 If I could choose, I would love to see BabyMetal in Japan at a large arena, the best upstairs seat in the house. Then, when they toured supporting Lady Ga Ga, they were at smaller venues and at smaller venues it would be great to be in the mosh pit! Well until I had to escape and breathe. 😀
Superb album and this is a great song but, yes, more Dance than Metal. But there's a lot of excellent Metal on the album. This is the 3rd 'live' MV of a song from the album and it baffles me why they chose to use live film with the studio audio over it. Only The Fox God Knows! 🦊🤘🤘🦊
It's not that they were doing lip sync, it's just that instead of making their own MV they took the live performance and put the audio from the studio version over it to make a Live MV. The same goes for the official video for Mirror Mirror, PA PA YA and Metal Kingdom.
So no they are not lipsynching.they performed live at the concert.this is the studio track over that so no you are not correct in saying they are lipsynching.
The live performances are not on TH-cam. They get blocked by Amuse real quick. I sent him a. Link to the entire live concert a couple weeks ago but this was probably recorded before.
Nice reaction - you actually liked the song more than I thought you would, considering it is probably one of if not the least metal tracks on the album, but as you point out that doesn't in any way make it a bad song (it's actually one of my favorites). As others have pointed out, like Metal Kingdom and the just released video for Mirror Mirror, this video is using studio audio but the video is actual live concert footage. I guess Amuse is thinking if they include the actual concert audio in the videos it will negatively impact DVD/Blu-ray sales (which have already been announced and are in pre-order mode). Seems goofy to me but hey it's Amuse. This footage like Metal Kingdom comes from their "we're back" concert at the end of January where Momoko was still officially a backup dancer (without a mike). The ladies were performing on a smallish stage in the center of the audience while the Kami band where off on one of the side stages generally out of the camera field of vision.- which I can definitely understand is probably not a stage design you would especially like. The Mirror Mirror video on the other hand uses footage from the more recent Yokohama shows where Momoko was officially promoted to full member and given a headset mike like Moa's. You would definitely like that stage setup much better as its a single stage (albeit multi level with a central platforms that goes up and down and the Kami band clearly visible flanking that central platform (but unfortunately still in masks). Pretty sure its still studio audio though overlaid on top of concert footage.
At least the new mask are cooler looking. But I really think the Eastern Kami Band should go back to the face paint and the Western can keep the masks on if Koba is dead set on the stupid things.
I was like you when I've heard this studio version, I would give 7.5 to the song, but hearing it from live footage when Su hits those high notes and puts emotions in the chorus made me obsesed with the song. It easy 9 for me
It's on youtube, you can check it by yourself in a free time. Just add "live" to the name of the song. It's seems like Amuse went easy with copyrights for the new album.
BabyMetal dont need to make a music video their performances are that good just stick studio over it and save the live for Blu-ray. Seen them for the 3rd time last night at Wembley Arena and they are awesome, and the Kamis were right next to them 😁 🤘🏼🦊🤘🏼
This is one of my favorite songs from the new album. This was again from the same concert that Metal Kingdom was recorded. If you want to see the live performance look at 32:12-38:11 on the video I sent you a couple weeks back. The live version like always when it comes to Babymetal is far superior. Su puts all her emotions into the song.
The live version of this is available. I wish that was the one they gave you instead. Sure it would be blocked, but it is multitudes better than this dubbed video.
Good score for a reasonable song, in my view. To be a little negative, I find it bitterly ironic that the first two albums when Su had a child's voice, the majority of the songs were epic with a wonderful mix of metal genres. The later two albums when Su's voice has matured, we get electronic tweaks and synthesising of Su's voice singing pop or lounge music predominately. As you say, the live versions are the saving grace and this has already been proven with live versions of the those songs. As others have pointed out, this was live footage, of the song and the Kami band were on a different stage. Without hearing the live version, I am tending to agree with you that the studio audio, will be superior. My cynical side wonders why they bother with the Kami Band at all now? The East Kami Band are wearing masks again, not sure but maybe even the Kami Band it's self are wearing masks? They may as well sing along to track as the musicians are being shunted to a completely different stage and not have any room to interact with the crowd as such.
This was recorded live, during the shows on January 28 and 29 at the Makuhari Messe, in Tokyo. For some reason, Amuse replace the live audio with the studio version of the song. They did the same with Metal Kingdom.
Mr Heretic here's a long time subscriber from Germany.. I really appreciated your comments and opinions for Rammstein. BUT... let me tell you that there is no other band in germany that is more controversial, more hated, more loved, than Boehse Onkelz .. you really need to check them out. For most people Onkelz is a kind of religion. You should start with "nichts ist für die Ewigkeit"
I appreciate Shawn who keeps recommending BABYMETAL BUT he is killing me with his choices. I absolutely KNEW this was his choice before you said it. Time and time again he had you watch some cover songs or just goofy versions of stuff. Like why? You still have older stuff to react to from their previous albums. The new album is great and all but there isn't enough true LIVE versions to watch yet. Just Studio audio over some Live concert footage. This is a more poppy song. There ARE harder songs in this album. Just seriously killing me with his choices. 🤘🦊🤘 I feel like he is trying to make you regret these reactions.
There's half the album available fully live with audio. Is it the best footage? No, it's a TV broadcast of the live, and it's raw, so no focus on the Kami. But it's far and away better than the music videos.
@@allegorical These all can wait in my opinion. David has much more songs from the earlier albums to catch up on. Shawn is just wasting his time over and over again. Like when he chose the cover song BabyMetal did (can't remember the name) and David had no idea it wasn't even a BABYMETAL song.
This is just how BM do music videos now. They take live video from shows they have done and just add the studio track to it. There is the live audio for this video out there. They did not live lip sync.
They have almost always added the studio audio on top for their official music videos, Gimme Chocolate and Uki Uki Midnight come to mind as early examples.
Bring back the feel of their 2nd album...thats all. I miss BM. kickass anthems and some ballads to showcase Su's voice. I like all types of music, but if Koba is now tired of Metal and wants to make a pop rock band, well, first off, Japan has about 4 billion of them so just stop already...not every band needs to be backup vocals for an anime, but perhaps he should start a 2nd project and just make pop stuff...stop using BM for this...stuff. As a song I actually like this. Reminds me of Lisa or Ayano Mashiro...or really about a dozen other j-rock bands. BM courted the metal scene and got accepted into the club. now it seems they are sort of tossing all their work in the past into a fire and going to just mainstream. Yeah, I know Su wants to try different stuff, and lots of big bands explore..that was their last album though and it..sort of sucked in my opinion. The songs were fine for...music, just...shit man, maybe this is the real reason Yui left...she was told they are going pop and she peaced out (make some fanfic. why not). I would have given it a flat 7 and thats simply because I simp for Suzuka (and Moa)
Well, this IS a concept album. They have all said it isn't their "4th" album. And some of these songs were actually written 5 or so years ago. I do love the 2nd album too so I am hoping we get some more of that feel in the "4th" album too. But overall, I still enjoy this album. And seeing them perform these songs Love is always soooo much better. Hell, BABYMETAL could sing me old McDonald had a farm and I would still be happy as long as it was Live and in front of me. I rather they not, but I would still have a dumb smile on my face. 🤘🦊🤘
@@mikepowers9486 I enjoy the girls, and I enjoy their determination and poise, but I enjoy the actual music they were bringing to the table back in 1 and 2...and just want them to remember what caught the attention of bands like Metallica and the like, along with the global stage. aka, remember your roots. Cut the roots off to grow and you will simply fall over.
Hi and thanks. I think you have not understood Metal Kingdom, its function is to activate the crowd and participate by doing the choirs. The choruses are intentionally repetitive. Traditionally BM started concerts with Babymetal Death (Su-Metal desu, Yuimetal desu, Moametal desu, Babymetal desu), but not the Legend 1997 special concert closing performance with crucifixion. The girls just came out on stage and introduced themselves. Babymetal Death was a simple song to activate the audience. Yui left. Now the concert started with Metal Kingdom. I think Metal Kingdom is superior as a song to Babymetal Death.
Reshoots? Not during this video. The footage is live. They replaced live audio with studio audio. And they already released the identical footage with live audio. Relased most of the concert, anyway. When watching the complete live release, I was surprised Moa had her lips closed when I thought she would sing. That does not change the fact that Su and Kami band were singing and playing live on the day. Only that's not what you listened to. Because Shawn requests studio versions. I'm starting to hate the guy.
I hear what you're saying, and this isn't aimed at this video in particular, but I would say that in general, the trend lately seems to be that you are much harder on Babymetal than other bands. Take Moametals headbanger for example. You had a stage that disconnects from the main section of the stage, moves back and forth, elevates, rotates, shoots firework from underneath it, has hidden cameras for the 5 giant screens behind them, curved LED's, etc, etc...and you harped on production because for this specific song that was about turning 20 on Moas 20'th birthday the band wasn't in focus, but the birthday girl was. (who have been a sidekick ever since she was a preteen.) I think that, if you're being honest with yourself, if just about any other band had the same level of production as Babymetal have and you see them for the first time, you would be blown away by the level of production. Same with other things, like crowd interaction. The crowd was literally on their knees, doing coordinated headbanging . You've played metal crowds, they are merciless and unruley, and you get that bunch of people to do something like that...that is unheard of. And that doesn't just go for production and crowd interaction, but other aspects as well. It's not fair that you lower the score, just because it's Babymetal and you hold them to a different standard. The score is supposed to be something that you can compare between songs and bands, is it not?
I want to like Babymetal -- I like their instrumentation -- but their vocal treatments are just so 21st century, which means (to me) bad. Just let them sing, man. The vocals make them sound robotic.
Tyyppl is right quit evaluating BabyMetal MV’s when you haven’t watched them LIVE. Everything BabyMetal does from Suzuka’s lead vocals to Moa (and now Momoko’s) backing vocals to of course the Kami’s is stronger and better LIVE.
Yeah, lot's of tracks on the new album the voice of Su is completely butchered with digital filters. I mean WHY? She has such a beautiful voice! Mirror, Mirror is one of the worst of them.
In my opinion whoever is suggesting these BabyMetal videos needs to quit recommending MV’s to you as it is just a waste of time. There are already LIVE Pro Shot Videos of the new songs drifting out so just wait until these versions that have LIVE audio and LIVE footage are available. I have seen the LIVE Pro Shot videos of Monochrome (freaking fantastic), Metalizm (again fantastic), Divine Attack (Yeah) and yes this song (Love it) and am looking forward to the others. My opinion.
I partly agree. It is his freedom to request whatever he wants. However, from some of Babymetal fans' standpoint(just like me), It looks a kind of insincere or careless request. As a result, I'm frustrated but not entitled to blame anybody. Sad for me.
Understood but in my opinion these people are wasting Patreon monthly requests (I have watched Heretic reacting to BabyMetal from the beginning so I “believe”I know what he is going to say before he watches an MV or a particular BabyMetal performance and they should as well.)
@RAH22 Yeah I can feel your emotion. What I wanted to say was "careless" can be criticized but not regulated by law unless it is severe. Same as here. Under his rule, there is no way to stop it and nobody can ask to stop.
@@lsc9338 I agree too. He has requested cover songs and stuff that I feel would turn David off to BABYMETAL. I face palmed myself with about 4 of his choices. David still has songs from the 3 other albums he hasn't seen.
When it comes to Babymetal live is better so it's disappointing they are requesting these overlay videos. Patience pays off. Requesting the First Take videos would be more productive until then imo.
They have always replaced the audio with the studio track for their official music videos. A couple of early examples are Gimme Chocolate and Uki Uki Midnight. For more recent examples we have PA PA YA and DA DA DANCE. Don't all bands do that? I'm baffled by you saying that bands lip sync at *real* concerts when they need to shoot a music video. Why not just play it live and replace the audio like BABYMETAL does? Sounds completely illogical. You make it sound like we still live in the analog era without any editing tools, heck, replacing audio doesn't require any digital equipment...
Why not wait with requesting any reaction until Summer when the actual live performances are released officially? These music videos with live visuals and studio audio just don't make sense. A fan cam from the current Europe tour is more reaction-worthy than this.
@Monkey Gameplays Yep. Not hitting a note perfectly, cutting a longer note short etc. is totally normal during live performances and I rather see and hear such hiccups than watching live visuals with studio audio dubbed over it. I witnessed the two shows in Yokohama this month, and Su's vocals were so damn good. Not a single notable flaw, except that she did not hold very long notes completely through like on the album. So I am pretty confident that the Blu Ray releases of those shows are going to reflect the actual live sound pretty closely.
🍅💀🍅 🤘🏼🦊🤘🏼 like people said before this is studio version on top of live performance. There is also actual live version of this song from concert so no idea why the requester didn't gave it to you....
Listen David I know that you have a bunch of Patreon requests to get through but I suggest that you watch (you don’t have to react just watch) The First Take piano version of Monochrome and then just tell your audience your thoughts.
You nailed it, David. “Synthetic and clubby.” That’s the whole new album. They went on hiatus and came back a pop band. This is the most disappointed I’ve ever been in my musical life. I probably won’t like anything from them going forward.

Cheers!
Pls go to their concert . BM will do a concert tour in America this Aug to Oct. You will see their real stage performance 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
We're working on budgeting it, if we can make it work in our budget, I'll see about getting us tickets.
@@THEDavidHereticWonderful 💖Hope you can see the concert and enjoy it🎉🎸🌟💕
@@THEDavidHeretic Be warned, don't think you are getting what you have see previously with the epic Japanese shows.
I saw the live of this. Saying there were multiple takes for this! Wow. No words.
Superb album and this is a great song but, yes, more Dance than Metal. But there's a lot of excellent Metal on the album. This is the 3rd 'live' MV of a song from the album and it baffles me why they chose to use live film with the studio audio over it. Only The Fox God Knows! 🦊🤘🤘🦊
They want to sell Blu Rays
@Mike Powers yes like creating BabyMetal 🤣 maybe he is not as stupid as people think and as the years pass his plans are taking shape 🤔🤘🏼🦊
Seen them for the 3rd time last night at Wembley Arena and they are awesome, and the Kamis were right next to them 😁
🤘🏼🦊🤘🏼
Again, hope you get to see them live on their U.S. tour when they come to L.A. in October.
We're working on it, if we can make it work in our budget we'll make it happen.
Like last time Shawn, love that u nominate Babymetal, but dude, babymetal is best live, plz nominate them live.
@Monkey Gameplays Agreed.
Can't wait for metalizm and Maya live reactions (one is just heavy AF, and the other is supper different)
The Kami band was there people at the concert saw them.
They are over on the (east?) stage, you can see them on the actual Wowow broadcast.
If you want to hear the live version, the FOX GOD says, you have to pay to enjoy it.😁
This was recorded live, during the shows on January 28 and 29 at the Makuhari Messe, in Tokyo. For some reason, Amuse replace the live audio with the studio version of the song. They did the same with Metal Kingdom.
It is so they can sell Blu Rays of the concert. They aren't going to give us everything for free 😉
It's live footage with studio track like with metal kingdom
This has always been how they've done it since the first album.
@@allegorical They had a music video for Distortion and Karate that wasn't first album.
(who have been a sidekick ever since she was a preteen.)
I think that, if you're being honest with yourself, if just about any other band had the same level of production as Babymetal have and you see them for the first time, you would be blown away by the level of production.
You should listen to them live then. Su sounds way better live without all the added effects on her voice.
You should search for real live vesions, all kind of processing in Su voice in those MV are... Nah
Yeah, lot's of tracks on the new album the voice of Su is completely butchered with digital filters. I mean WHY? She has such a beautiful voice! Mirror, Mirror is one of the worst of them.
@@nossy232323 It's not just the first album. Every single studio album they have is like this.
These reactions just make me want to bang my head against a wall. I'm to the point I'm just going to give up bothering to watch at all.
This is studio track (which is always worse than live, in the case of BABYMETAL) synced to a live performance
papaya please

🤘🏼🦊🤘🏼
like people said before this is studio version on top of live performance.
There is also actual live version of this song from concert so no idea why the requester didn't gave it to you....
Good
Listen David I know that you have a bunch of Patreon requests to get through but I suggest that you watch (you don’t have to react just watch) The First Take piano version of Monochrome and then just tell your audience your thoughts.
You don't have to say it because that version will be reviewed by him in June.
Understood Thanks.
“You don’t have to say it”. I saw what you did there.😉
@@lsc9338 Why would someone prioritize that when there is an actual live version of the full song he will probably enjoy more?
Exactly. Why MV’s?
You nailed it, David. “Synthetic and clubby.” That’s the whole new album. They went on hiatus and came back a pop band. This is the most disappointed I’ve ever been in my musical life. I probably won’t like anything from them going forward.
This ranks as one of the stupidest posts on YT.
You truly don't understand much about this album or what they been saying then. IT IS A CONCEPT ALBUM. They said themselves this isn't their "4th" album. And some of these songs were actually written 5 years ago. Calm down.
