I am nearly 84 years and do both yoga and tai chi. I have been doing yoga for about 40 years and Tai Chi for nearly 4 years. Yoga helps me to relax and stay flexible especially in my hips and lower back. I do a restorative form of yoga almost every day that lasts about 30 minutes per session on my yoga mat: about 20 minutes on my back, 5 minutes seated on the floor and 5 minutes on my stomach. I became interested in Tai Chi when I saw it practiced by seniors everywhere in China during my visit four years ago. Twice a week I do one hour group classes of the Yang style 24 that includes some martial arts instruction and the eight piece brocade. At this point I have done enough repetitions of the twenty four that I can do the practice “without thinking” which was one of the goals of the practice but I am still working on my technique for standing on one leg and for kicking. I have some ankle strength issues but I seem to be making progress.
being diagnosed with cancer & after chemotherapy & major surgery. I am following Dr. Lams 24 forms. I have noticed my strength & stamina building through daily practice. This been a new lease of life. Thank you Dr. Lam.
Chris, Dr.Lam's style of execution is NOT really fluid. He uses a lot of abdominal breathing movements that common players do not know. Form 24 is NOT a good place to start learning taichi actually. Start with Form 16. Many good videos about 16 form. Yes, this *particular* kind of gentle exercise is good to build up strength n flexibility, esp for rehab patients. Try Wu style 119 form. That one also for rehab program. You learn form 24, some movements are not easy to execute. Quite a challenge to execute *properly* . Wish you good health, Chris. Just saying.
I am newly diagnosed and did my first Chemo. I just found this out of desperation, my whole body is so off and I am so happy you shared. Thank you! there is hope for me then. Thank God!
Cheers for this, been searching for "are there chakras in your hands?" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Have you heard people talk about - Fonebastian Unexpected Framework - (should be on google have a look ) ? It is a smashing one of a kind guide for learning powerful methods to build your Chi energy minus the headache. Ive heard some interesting things about it and my friend got excellent success with it.
Dr. Paul Lam - Thank you for posting your knowledge. I have been doing Tai Chi for close to fifty years now, and the older I get the more important the health and joy aspects are. For the young bunch, who want to improve their martial arts skills with Tai Chi, I recommend they check out Chen Zhonghua's teachings through his Practical Method videos. Your short intro to the Chen style is masterful, and for those who want to see more of this style at its highest level, please check out Grandmaster Feng Zhiqiang's Hunyuan style. Tai Chi is one of the greatest gifts to humanity, and can benefit anyone who decides they want to improve their life. Thanks again Dr. Lam, for making this ancient art easily accessible to us 21st Century people, and our speeding-up world..
Wow. The demonstrations of the different styles is phenomenal. As an instructor myself this has proven to be highly enlightening. And yes, I admit, I did find the accent a little bit funny to listen to at first...but not in a bad way.
Cheers for this, I have been researching "can aang bend all elements?" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Ever heard of - Fonebastian Unexpected Framework - (do a search on google ) ? It is a smashing exclusive product for learning powerful methods to build your Chi energy minus the headache. Ive heard some interesting things about it and my friend got excellent results with it.
This is great but the oldest existing, and continually operating educational institution in the world is the University of Karueein, founded in 859 AD in Fez, Morocco. The University of Bologna, Italy, was founded in 1088 and is the oldest one in Europe.
Hi Dr Lam, I watched this many years ago. Rewatching I can appreciate this even more now. I recently had brain surgery, tumor removed. Have been one of your instructors since October 2016 from Vero Beach. Thank you

Hi how are you? 😊
Tai Chi Chaun is life
Since tai chi can be too slow and boring for some people is dancing and option that would give health benefits?
I wouldn't have thought Tai Chi CHUAN was a treatment for anything. Snake oil salesman. Medieval battlefield armed and unarmed combat forms.
+zorbataichi65 now you got it. Salesman! It is all in the branding.
Zorbatheidiot,
Taichi For Health... he didnt say TaichiChuan, moron.
Who are you to spew shiit from your filthy mouth?eh! Grrr...
