(Sold) This beautiful plane was made between 1925 - 1928 and has a rare double stamped iron. Included in the restoration is a bit of history on Leonard Bailey and a look at his Victor No. 6 plane.
I use a set of five Stanley planes I bought cheap and lovingly restored. I never use more than a brass brush and liquid rust remover. My late 40's #6 is a real pleasure to use. I occasionally reflatten my workbench top with it among other things. When super sharp it works well as a smoother, even compared to the Lie Nielsen model #6. I had a great time watching your restoration and listening to your gentle narration. Keep up the good work.

Bought a 6C Type 11 today. Surface rust and some chipped japanning on the heel and toe. Want to keep the existing japanning but the spots are bigger than the little chips on yours (but smaller than than on the section you stripped). Any recommendations? Also, what's the best way to remove rust from a corregated sole? This is my first antique plane restoration and I don't want to mess it up. Thanks!
I have just purchased a Stanley No.6 and wondering how you would go about removing splashed red paint on top of the japaning, quite thick in some places. I am a bit apprehensive about using any solvent /paint stripper and not sure that if I try and scrape it off this may also scratch the japaning. How would you go about removing this paint issue from the plane japaning ? Cheers
Type 13 Stanley plane with orange paint on the lever cap ??? I have 4 different type 13's and none of them have a trace of orange paint. One of them is a 5 1/2 in perfect condition. Please explain. Thanks.
My favorite plane I prefer a no.6 over any of the others I have 10 of them mostly type 11&16. Have 3 I have as users one for smoothing 1 for jointing and one set up as a scrub. My smoother and jointer have Hock replacement blades as the originals were worn down
@@andreybainov4263 not really. A lot of people I talk to have one because they want a complete collection. Some people also use the No6 as a shooting plane, among other random tasks.

There no 6 is one weird plane, some carpenters liked it as a lighter jointer.
Awesome double stamp blade, Question is, ,, , Most likely it's a laminated blade, did the Company sharpen the correct side of the blade ?
Yes, I can see the laminate portion of the blade is on the correct side. (after you polished the blade it's visible)

The number 6 was a carpenter's favorite because it would fit most tool boxes!
I made some of those scrapers and they are great. I use them all the time now, on projects far removed from cleaning up my planes.

Plane Collector your welcome they come in either A2 or O1 tool steel I prefer O1 lil seems to hold an edge longer than A2 either one is great

That was a piece of southern yellow pine. Cherry looks quite a bit different.

Jack Plane no. 5
Fore plane no. 6
Jointer Plane no.7 and no.8
So is there any point in having a fore plane if I have a jointer?

in comparison to other model #s hows the size of the mouth on a 6 ?
