In this video I took an old rusty $20 flea market find, hand plane, took the entire plane apart, soaked the parts in evaporust. I then repainted all the black parts, sharpened the blade and gave it a test run. It works great! Enjoy!

I've recently got into hand plane restoration and have watched quite a number of restoration videos. This is the first one I've watched deal with a broken tote or knob, with a piece missing, that repaired it instead of replacing it, which is what I would tend to do. Great job and was especially glad to see someone repair a tote vs replacing it 👍😎🤠🇺🇸
Nice Job on the no 6 stanley . I am at present restoring my no, 6 stanley bench plane too its good fun and these planes just will not DIE they will live forever my favourite is the no 4 smoothing good luck cheers Glenn.
Looks great. My favorite part of restoring planes is using abrasives on a granite block. There’s no reason these planes shouldn’t be in service so well done to bringing another back to life.
I agree ! Especially when it doesn’t cost much to bring it back to life
I was a little surprised to see you placing the washers between the plane bed and the frog. Does the frog ride on the washers (bad design)? Surely they were supposed to be above the frog to stop the bolts clamping down?
Congrats! Your the first and only one that noticed that! It’s correct now btw. Thanks for watching!
Try a pvc pipe capped on one end to soak longer parts. Learned that trick from Jay Bates.
Such a simple fix for the problem! Thank you for sharing!
I have a NO8 as well that needs restoration . I’ll try that trick .
Good job!!!
