I'm also 174cm or 5ft 9 inch.. I agree 100% about the T7 as I spent $4k upgrading suspension and lowering it by 50mm.. Same shoe, still VERY top heavy. I loved looking at it in the garage but struggled with the weight, so I sold it too. Now, like you I have the NX500 and loving it. We always throw money at any bike we buy.. I'll be following your build and will compare with mine..enjoy. 😂
Me personally I’m considering a transalp + cruise control and tractive suspension upgrade but the CFMoto IBEX 450 (450 MT) looks really intriguing. The 450 hits all the points you were talking about except cruise control. It’s a cable throttle system so a throttle lock is your only option for that. But the CFMoto has a low seat height ✅ adjustable kyb suspension ✅ less weight than the tenere ✅ twin cylinder ✅ plus you get tubeless wheels, rider modes and a dedicated button to switch off rear ABS 🤷🏼♂️ it’s almost a unicorn bike in my opinion. As far as reliability, that 450 engine has been out for over 4 years now and in a few different bikes and I can’t find any complaints about it. I think the 450 MT is going to sell like crazy and a lot of people will be looking for non biased info on it, might be good for your channel.
That is definitely one of the more interesting newcomers to this segment. But one thing that is not talked enough is the actual weight. It's 175kg (DRY).. that's only a 12kg difference to for example the Tuareg 660 and the Tenere 700 is not much different (don't know the dry weight but T7 wet being the same as Tuareg). So -12 kg and only 44hp which is almost half the power of Tuaregs 80hp and 30hp less than the T7. I think it's gonna be an interesting bike but not going to impress with it's power. It's light compared to these bikes but considering the HP it should be even lighter. My G 650 GS BMW was around the same weight or even lighter and had 48hp. It was too slow for my liking as the no.1 bike in my garage.
@@PatchedBandit yeah the power is a disappointment for sure. I’m coming off a KLR650 so regardless the 450 twin is an upgrade and it’s 50 lbs lighter than what I’m riding now. Still trying to decide on a transalp vs 450 MT tho. If the transalps air box was under its seat instead of the tank than their would be no debate for me. I’m taking a trip to Thailand at the end of the year and the plan is to rent both bikes and do some road trips on the golden triangle then make a decision. We aren’t really allowed to test ride bikes out here in the states and bikes rentals aren’t really a thing unless you are booking an expensive trip with a group and I prefer solo adventures.
I am about to buy T7. Just made a call to a local dealer this week. 😅 So this video gave me second thoughts but I will most likely pull the trigger though and get one. Has been on my radar for long now. I want realiability and simplicity.
Same problem with the KLR, except the engine isn't even anything to write home about. You get this "cheap" bike, and then spend $$$ to upgrade the ergos, armor, and suspension. Ultimately the best option seems to be just buying a used bike with all the farkles pre-installed. Skip the dealer tax and the farkle spending spree.
The 890R is the way to go. I went from a 1090R to a T7, and was extremely disappointed. Sold the T7 after a short bit and bought an 890R, and absolutely love it. It is the most all around capable ADV bike, and the suspension is great and the engine is an absolute animal. It gives up nothing to my old 1090R, while feeling 100lbs lighter. I just added a 690, but can already tell I will continue to gravitate to the 890R for most rides.
Totally agree. I've said it in a video too that I think the 890R is the best of all of these mid size offerings. It does feel a bit tall with the stock configuration for myself thouhg.
I have the Transalp for almost a year now and it's a great bike. I don't do any serious offroading just backroads, gravel and of course long distance touring and city commute. Yes, the crouise control sometimes a miss but there are good aftermarket options. Some day I might buy one, but now I don't miss it. It's a very light and agile bike even in downtown Budapest where I live. The quick shifter is a dream, and the engine/exhaust sounds like thunder. So you could have the little Honda for hard offroad and the bigger Honda for the more relaxed roads . You can do to the mandatory services at the same dealership, which could be a plus in the logistic front and you migh even get some benefits ;) Cheers mate, happy thinking!
I hope the Aprilia turns out to be reliable, but I doubt it will. 80hp is a hell of a lot for a 660, and Aprilia's after sales service is appalling. It's one reason the wonderful RSV4 isn't more popular.
@@RedRupert64So far, Tuareg 660 appears to be more reliable than any KTM twin. Of course not as reliable as Yamaha T7. But the parts availability is abysmal. People are waiting even months for parts.
@@uralicdneprov1806 It's far too early to say. I know of someone who's given his Aprilia back because it broke so early on in its life. KTM have sold 10s of thousands more 790/890s, so of course there will be more reports of failure. Also, don't forget that KTM is a brand people love to blame for unreliability. Even people who don't actually know; but have just heard this. BMW are far worse, but as they tend to deal with faults in a better way than KTM, so people tend to complain less. Please note that BMW are replacing shafts on R-series bikes with >60k Kms, that were made between 2013 and 2024. The previous models also had many shaft problems. The shaft on the new 1300 GS has a service life of just 80k km. They've been making shaft drives for over 100 years, but still can't get it right. Yamaha don't have these problems. A properly lubricated chain will last ove 60k km these days. What problems do you think the KTM 890 suffers from?
Imo for these requirements the KTM 790 Adventure or Tuareg 660 seem to fit best. The good thing about these is also tubeless wheels. For general ADV use this is the better choice in my opinion.
I have the generation before the T7, the XT660Z and there are the same negatives. I fixed them all except the top heavy feeling. Love the motor and realibility. I think the Tuareg is the best option regarding weight and nimble feeling if you are looking at an adventure bike.
That's what I learned about the Tenere. You're buying a CP2 engine and then spending the same amount to upgrade everything else. So much so, that you might get over MSRP of a Tiger 900 Rally Pro which is about 16k USD for MSRP. Much better options out there, like the 900 Rally Pro, KTM 690, Tuareg. Triumph is even announcing a 660 Rally Pro so definitely keep an eye out for that.
For sure. Lets hope Triumph will knock it out of the park with that one. We need competiton in this segment. I would hope someone could shave 10kg off the weight of these twins still though 🤓
I only have engine bars that weigh 4kg total and I use soft kriega bags. I traveled with this bike for 3 months with 2x12, 1x20L kriega bags. My tenere has never been much heavier than stock. Plus I have lithium battery and titanium slipon to lose some of that stock heft. .. T7 is top heavy. No changing that but I wouldnt sell it only for that reason. Dont get me wrong I still think T7 is a GREAT bike. One of the best.
@@AdvRiderFi engine is simply too high up, probably the highest in any bike, also the CP2 is a tall engine. I think the T7 is slowly losing it's "throne", at least if they don't make some small updates at some point, like exhaust hanger or lower fuel position, rbw
Perhaps you already know, but I love these casual vlogs. 5 sec tiktok vids or mr beast vids where you're bombarded with text, sound, shouting people, it's too much. When it comes to bike choice, I'd just ride around on the 300l, save the cash on bike, insurance etc, but you said that wasn't an option. Your second bike will be the Tuareg 660, it checks all the boxes you listed: excellent suspension, lower seat height, cruice controll, not overly tech-ladden, much lower COG. Just watch Brake Magazines video about it, easy choice 😉
This might be the way to go 😄 And totally agree on the "MR Beastification" of youtube. I'm experimenting on my content and still trying to find a good balance. I don't like to watch videos that are too hectic.. but boring is not good either 😅 (I'm pretty boring in real life 😆)
man i have the same '22 Tenere as yours with 18k km...was thinking changing mine over last months but......yesterday i ordered a new 2024 Extreme version! i love so much this bike so i buy another one with some upgrades.. By the way i'm curious on what you're gonna do...as always geat videos keep going!!
Definitely! I have so much exciting content on the works for this spring 😋 I would love to test the extreme version this summer and do some comparisons 😊
Hi! I'm exactly the same height as you. I drove the Tenere for a few hours and also the Aprilia Tuareg on the same day. So I had a direct comparison. For the same reasons you mentioned, I chose the Tuareg and am still very satisfied. The Aprilia fits me like a glove. Big groundclearence, a lot of suspencion, fine motor.. Of course, I still had to invest some money to tailor it to my personal needs. Acerbis hand protection, dash plate and engine guard from SW Motech, soft luggage from mosko moto. Have fun with your purchase decision and best regards from Austria.
No Problems so far. I see myself as a very critical consumer. I see two weak points so far: 1. The clear coat on the tank was slightly affected by my tank bag, which I almost always have installed (but I also had the problem with my Honda Africa Twin). 2. The much-cited heat development on the right side of the engine can be really annoying.
You even explored if Transalp 750 has a cruise control and how to work around it. You are obviously interested in it. So definitely go for it, go and buy this JAWA RVM 500 Adventure.
I'm still curious about transalp. Couple of issues I have with it is that it is very thiccc between the legs and the air filter is a pain to change/clean. Not good for an "offroad bike"
@@PatchedBandit I'm a bit scared of TA because many owners report twitchy behavior on low RPM. I can afford only one motorcycle and my current TA700 is being used for literally everything, shopping, traveling long distances two up, very slight single tracks to the swimming ponds, lane splitting in traffic jams etc. I can not have bike that is twitchy at lows speeds as I commute in city very often. Then again, one must take internet opinions with grain of salt.
My 1st choice would be the 890, but it's a little expensive and maybe high for you, dunno. But it's the top of the middleweight class in my opinion. Next could be the 790 or Transalp, however those do not have the great out-of-the-box suspension even thought the KTM has tubeless which is amazing. And the one that could fit you the most could be the Tuareg but if I recall correctly I heard 1 or max 2 people complaining about it's electrical issues. And also the Aprilia services around your area might not be as much as a KTM or Honda. But the Tuareg as you know has the hightest clearance, long suspension travel (as much as the 890 I think), cruise, tubless, and more. Plus it's cheap since it's trying to prove itself worthy I think.
Tuareg is definitely one of my favorites now. I've said it in my test ride video too that I think the 890 R is the best 'mid size' offering on the market. But like you said it feels a bit big for me personally. The lower center of gravity helps with that bike a lot though.
Too bad you’re leaving team t7😢 but with your argumentation it makes total sense. The bikes you mentioned (ktm, honda, bmw)seem great options (especially the ktm or maybe that new svartpilen800, since you are not planning to go to Mongolia anytime soon?). If you really don’t care about reliability you can try aprillia…💥 I think the tiger900 will be the best addition to your thumper. The bikes I would like you to get are the rieju500 or the kove800. There is so little content on those.
Those are very interesting for sure. I'm gonna at the very least make Quick Ride episodes of both the KOVE 450 and KOVE 800 on my channel later. 450 episodes are gonna come within the next few weeks when the weather gets a bit better here. Also I'm planning to make something with the new PR7 and other AJP offerings. Aprilia does have the potential for way more issues than the Japanese offerings that's for sure. th-cam.com/play/PLjuLZY6TnpPlB0U9Qwgfek6l6R6CwIQ21.html
i was considering Tenere and also rode it for a while but went for Aprilia Tuareg for pretty much same reasons. Low center of gravity was important for me - it is really easy to handle off road , nice on twisties and good enough on motorways - i would say more comfy seat than Tenere and somehow fits me better. Engine and sound - very nice. Aftermarket parts selection is ok - had for example lower and wider footpegs for Black Dog USA. Just my 2 cents
Similar thoughts. Ergonomy on the Tuareg is definitely better straight out of the box for myself at least from the couple of test rides I have taken with that bike last summer. It just feels twice as nimble as the T7 even though it's pretty much the same total weight. Aprilia nailed the weight distribution on that frame.
Well. If it comes down to the F 900 GS, Desert X, Norden 901, 890/790 Adventure (R), Tuareg 660 and Transalp 750. The Desert X, Norden 901 and KTM 890 Adventure are too expensive. The Transalp seems to be lacking in terms of offroad capability. At least in comparison to the other bikes on that list. That leaves the F 900 GS, Tuareg 660 and 790 Adventure R with the BMW being the most expensive one. Tough choice between those 3. I cannot get to terms with the KTM design, so the 790 would not be my choice. Even though its certainly a really good bike. The BMW looks great, but would still be too expensive for my liking. So the Tuareg 660 it is for me. Can recommend the review from Brake Magazine. Happy shopping :)
The F900GS looks really interesting but in my opinion they messed up by giving it a 17" rear wheel and only 14,5L of fuel. To me 17" rear just looks weird on an ADV bike at this point. Even on the old F800GS it looked a little out of place.
I bought my tenere last year in april and put on 14k kilometers in the first season. I have no issues with the seat nor the hight. I would love to have cruise control on her, but im fine with that. My T7 always brings a big smile on my face when my ass hits the seat :)
Same here. If I could afford to keep it I would just buy a third bike to keep things fresh 😁 I usually think about selling the T7 in winter season.. first time I climb on the bike in springtime I change my mind 😂 But I need to admit to myself that It's not the best bike for me personally..
@@PatchedBandit three bikes would be a bit of an overkill i think :D Im sure you find that bike that fits your needs. Maybe the V-Strom 800 DE could be the right choice for you? Shes definitely heavier than the t7, but not that top heavy :) The v-strom 800 would have been my second choice
I am also a T7 owner and I can totally understand where you are coming from. I really do love my bike and I am going to try and hang with it for at least this season (I have about 10K miles on mine) - but your analogy of a shoe that is one size to big is pretty spot on. Like I was just working on it in my garage and I dropped it and it was a giant pain in the a-- to pick up in a confined space. Curious to know what you plan to switch to as I am about the same size as you and I have put the same "socks" on my bike as well. I like how the new BMW 900 looks, but it seems very similar to the T7. Also have seen a lot of good reviews on the Trans Alp (but it seems like it will need a lot of aftermarket parts).
I like the F900 on paper too. It's a bit on the heavy side and seat height is basically the same as a T7 so I would need to ride one to really feel it out. I have sitten on one a couple of times though. Transalp 750 is definitely one of the more interesing bikes. Love a Honda reliability but it is maybe a bit lacking in the suspension department compared to the competition. Definitely one point off the Transalp is no factory cruise control even though it's ride by wire. No idea why Honda did this.
@@PatchedBandit You are too young and adventurous for a Honda, Suzuki is too heavy, you had a Yamaha, BMW is super expenssive and if you opt for a KTM 790 you have to pay extra for everything that is already on the bike! 890, Norden and Desert X are a different category! So get a Tuareg, full HP Corse System, DNA Stage 2 Filter and a Remap and you have the best bike bang for buck !
Plenty of used Teneres on czech secondary markets. Some have low total number of kilometres and looking almost like new often very well modified. It is a popular bike many people buy, but they realize it is not their fit or hobby. Which is good if you want to buy one. Almost like new but way cheaper.
True that in Europe T7 availability has been pretty good for a while already. Still a good workhorse hammer for anyone wanting a reliable tool for sure.
Really? I could find only few on Czech market, all too expensive. No point of buying a used bike for EUR 9K+ when you can buy brand new for 10K in Germany. They have been on sale for 10K even in CZ in January an February. However why to pay more to local dealer when you can buy it for 10K from german dealer all year around. I'm pretty sure even some local dealer would sell it for 10K if you press them deal or not.
@@PatchedBandit Looking forward to it. I like Kove's concept, and would have liked to try them at some point. But your test drive will be good inspiration for so long 😊👍
I have built a Supermoto out of my Tenere. With OZ Racing forged aluminium wheels. 17" front and back. Fixes a lot of problems of the Tenere. Reduced seat height by 30mm, top heavyness reduced, no more tube tyres, easily fixable flats if one occurs, 4kg lighter wheels and rides like a dream on road. I don't even ride off road with that thing so this Supermoto built was long due. You will find fault with every bike. The Tuarex might have better suspension and cruise control but if you keep that bike long enough I would think you could run into different problems. Here in my area not a alot of Aprilia Dealers are available. So Availability is the first thing, spare parts availability etc.... With the Tenere you get Yamaha quality/durability/longevitiy. I don't trust Aprilia.
No such thing as a perfect bike. All of us need to weigh our own preferences against the money we are willing to spend 👍 Most reliable bike is rarely the most impressive on all the other metrics like performance.
@@PatchedBandit For me Tracer 700 and Tenere 700 with a few modifications are almost perfect! Like these bikes! Hope you will have fun with the new one! 😄🤛
I think it’s Tuareg or 790 Adv for you. I’m 6’ 183 cm and 100kg butt naked 😂 so The T7 was probably engineered especially for me! If I was in your position I would go with the 790 even though I believe it will have the same old 790 issues but many are solvable by now. Let us know soon Thanks 🙏
Hello from Estonia! I would let you try my Tuareg for a day if you would come here to Tartu, just recently Finnair started to fly to Tartu again so ... My bike has Altrider variable rear linkage for lowering/heightening, offset steering bar and new Mitas E07+ tires and aftermarket windshield, quickshifter, center stand .. these are the most notable mods that change how the bike rides/feels. Because from your expectations this is a very serous candidate as others have already said. Also i find it very interesting that Johannes Dalen also watches you :) Anyways you can contact me on YT if you have any questions or just want to discuss Tuareg or you actually want to come over here and test her out for longer than few hours. I'd be glad to spend a day riding with you. Also nothing wrong with casual vlogs if you have something meaningful to say/discuss.
Thanks for the comment 😁 I actually have gone and bought a new bike already yesterday... more about that in my next video(s) 😉 I'm gonna ride the TET in the Baltics more at some point.. it's been in my "todo" list for a while now. Also there is an event in the Baltics I'm gonna attend but more about that later... If you have discord or Whatsapp you can join my groups to discuss further. Would be fun to ride with a Tuareg rider in the summer! 😎
My goal is to have a 690 and an 890 adventure R, so my 2 cents would be on a 890 R or a Norden expedition, the Norden is pretty decent height, im 176cm and it is fine. Kinda regret trading my Norden. But now im bikeless and can start on a fresh slate.
Thats a nice combo. Why I'm not looking to get the 690 family is that during winter it's too heavy in my opinion.. Even the CRF300L is a bit heavy for deep snow but its manageable. When I've ridden the 890R it felt a bit too tall for my legs. I can ride it and as it's not as top heavy it doesn't feel so bad. But it did feel a bit tall for my taste. 790 felt pretty nice. Initial impression was it felt even too small 😄 But I would like to get more offroad experience on that bike for sure.
Go for KTM 890 r adventure 🙂 , thats what im thinking for next. Checks all boxes - suspension /power / cruise control / comfort / electronics /. Awesome suspension / around 14 15 k euros
As you said: You have to be really comfortable with your bike, to be one. I have always liked small and nimble bikes, colobris instead of gozillas. But most people love more of the same, they upsize. Do you really need another bike bigger than your Honda CRF 300 L? What about the Aprilia Tuareg 660? Have you watched Llel Pavey's video (brake magazine)? Cheers from Nürnberg, Günter
I have! I rode the Tuareg a couple of times last summer.. one of those times is in my quckride playlist too. Yes I still feel like I need a twin in my garage as I like to ride on the road a lot too in the summertime and Honda lacks a lot of 'excitement' on asphalt. This and I like to own a bike that I can take a passenger sometimes also. CRF is great for what I use it 90% offroad and I LOVE riding that little wasp :)
I bought my T7 more than 3 years ago for some of the reasons you complain about. And I still love the pure style of the T7 but nevertheless I upgraded my suspension to Öhlins products as I was missing also a bit of comfort. The Rally seat was also missing the comfort on really long rides so I upgraded here as well. But in case you really want cruise control you'll need to buy in a lot of electronic stuff on your bike, which makes it expensive. And in case you're looking for a low bike maybe the Adventage segment is not the right one for this purpose and you're maybe better with a Scrambler bike from Triumph or a BMW R NINE T. Both with the right "socks" will look like an offroad capable bike, too. I do have own experience with BMW and YAMAHA only and I never felt that my BMW bike were top heavy in the past, due to their low center of gravity. A 2nd hand 1150/1200 GS might be affordable also in Finland but I believe they had no cruise control at these days. That is something for a new and more modern bike. I'm not a big fan of the Austrian/Chinese brand as well as software subscription models on a bike but looks like you can get a 790 Adventure with cruise control. And in case you want reliability and spare part availability we talk about a different story, which is on sale at your end. At the end of the day the bike needs to suit you and your needs/wishes/dreams and I hope you'll find it.
True true.. I'm not the ideal size for these ADV bikes 😅 My problem with scrabmlers etc. is that they are really not that offroad cabable. The occational gravel road is fine but the suspension on these is really not ideal for some of my use cases. I've gotten used to tall bikes but fiding the right one as a shorter rider is definitely a big ask. Tenere thoguh is not only tall its just ergonomically not suited for me. The bar top clamp distance from seat and all that is just not right. Trying to fix the riding position with risers or swapping the bar is just creating other problems to the ergonomy I don't like much. T7 riding offroad is VERY nice though. Riding standing up has always felt superb especially with the stock bar.

Love your content! I did the off road bike purchase in the following order: 1) Did dual sport training with BMW in Canada last May. Morning session was on a Honda CRF 250 F and afternoon session on BMW 850 GS. Before I arrived I was hell bent on pulling the trigger on an 850 or. T7. After I reflected for a bit I concluded (like you) I had a ton of fun on the little Honda. A week later I bought a used 2021 CRF 300L with 875 km on it. Was considering the T7 but every time I ride on one I find it uncomfortable When I add a second bike to my stable I want it to do a few things the 300 L won’t do. The reason why I put Africa Twin as number 1 is it feels smaller and less top heavy than the T7. The addition of Tubeless tires, standard Cruise Control on the 2024 with a bit more highway power makes the AT really compelling. That said the GS 900 is awesome but it would still not be as reliable as any Honda. Cheers!
Can't beat them hondas and yamahas for reliability. 750 Transalp is also very interesting as it does have some grunt under the bonnet and all that Honda quality to go with it 😊 I lost all hope of finding 1 bike that does it all a while ago. I love my little CRF as it helps me become a better rider and it's such a workhorse that I don't need to worry about it breaking down on me.
I was going to say that shame that it is not possible to do really well test bikes before buying those. But 2 hours would reveal most of the issues. Anyway, when the test ride, you need to take easy, and it is not exactly the same when owning the bike. Let's see what your choice is in the end. Anyway you need to visit here once you get it. I have some good trails to test it 😅
Definitely a good option. Some people complain about subscription models etc. I had my test ride with that bike and didn't completely fall in love with it during that but the bike felt much more fitting to me compared to the T7. Would be great to get a good offroad test at some point.
I'm 187cm so Tenere is Ok for me. Suspensions, well this is ok if you do not do crazy things off road, I don't 😁 . Long story short, I will continue my journey with the tenere. 4 U , according to my philosophy , would be a good compromise a new HondaTransalp. For me the priority no.1 is reliability. Ktm or Norden ??? Nice bikes, but not bullet proof as the Japanese bikes. My 1st soft enduro bike was a 1985 Yamaha XT600, something like the CRF300 L bigger sister. Perfect bike, 145kg, 44HP ...... but unfortunately this is history .
I love me a reliable bike for sure and this is why the Transalp 750 is one of the more interesting ones for sure. It is a bit lacking on the suspension side of things though. My first gravel bike was a BMW G 650 GS Sertao. Loved that thing! It had a 48hp single with around 160-170kg. Not a fast bike by any means but BMW should definitely bring it back and modernize that platform. Would be a big hit.
I just don't agreed with the 3 point, it's a bit tall also for me (same height) but i like the ergonomics, riding stand up feels like the bike was designed for me. I changed mine for a 890 regular just because also i'm at 174cms, but if was today maybe i did go for the R with lowering oem kit, i've toped down the suspensions some times...
Standing position was never a problme for me either. But long tours sitting down were uncomfortable with the stock bar. Now with the protaper adv bar the standing position is not as nice even though sitting down I get a better position. So its a compromise.

I'm gonna try to ride the Kove 800 soon. Kove 450 videos are just waiting for better weather already so I'm probably gonna have the 800 available at some point too.
Problem with that bike is going to be the power to weight ratio. Lot's of youtubers are touting this to be the next unicorn but people rarely talk about the fact that this is how it compares to for example Aprilia: Tuareg 660 Weight: 187 kg CFMoto 450MT Weigth: 175 kg So there is a 12kg difference there. Great? .. Not necessarily. The bike only produces 44 hp. Meanwhile the Tuareg is 80hp. This bike is going to be slow and as I already have one slow dualsport I don't want another 😄 Don't get me wrong here. I'm not saying its a bad bike and its very well priced for sure. But it's most likely not the unicorn everyone is waiting for either (just my opinion) It should be much lighter for what it is. My G 650 GS Sertao was 48 hp so more than this new CFMoto and the weight was nearly the same at 177 kg. It was a nice travel machine but too slow for my liking as the "big bike" in my garage.
@@PatchedBandit I think you are right. And 175kg is dry weight. So fueled up it is probably 190+ kg. And not so tall suspention travel either. The search continues 😄👍

T7- The most overrated motorcycle. Great engine but too heavy for what it offers, too expensive and poorly equipped. I could not still understand the hype about the Tenere. If you want what the Tenere offers, you can buy an old African Twin RD04.
Tenere was super cheap when it came out but the prices have been climbing lately. Not sure if its the great deal it used to be anymore. That CP2 engine and great looks is what you get with a T7 and I'm gonna miss both 😆
I wouldn’t say it’s overrated, I would say misunderstood. At least following what most people that criticize it are saying, they either a) think they bought an enduro bike or b) bought it as a replacement for their big GS thinking it provides the same comfort doing long touring. It is neither of these things. Ismo is an exception, he understands what kind of a bike the T7 is, but it just doesn’t suite him ergonomically. Comparing it to an old Africa Twin shows you probably haven’t ridden either one of them. As for the price, it’s still a cheap bike compared to most its rivals, at least here in Finland. Only one that comes close is the Aprilia Tuareg.
@@joakimf4868 I don't think I misunderstood the T7. After riding one I quickly realised that is was underpowered, the suspension was inadequate and the bike was heavy and top-heavy. Also, I would like tubeless wheels, which would add almost €2k to the price. If I had a T7, I'd need two more bikes - one for fast road riding and another for off-road. The KTM 890A is great for both these types of riding.
Go for less reliability with the Austrian and Italian hyped bikes - then when you break down...........you'll have content on your poor quality control, your 'fixes' and your road-side 'get-me-homes'............Oh, and cruise control won't help you then! Good luck Patched! Edit: I put 90,000 miles on my 'shite' CX500 in the '80s - it was all about the riding......and not too much about the bike itself.
True. Unreliable bike would be an endless source of video inspiration 😂 not sure if I would like to be the channel that complains about everything though 😂
@@PatchedBandit If you want a new bike, then go for it. I bought a couple of hyped adventure bikes and regretted the purchases. It's all part of the journey - I'll never regret the miles on that CX500 - you'll find your path. You'll own great bikes and you'll own rubbish bikes............
mulla meni tenere WR lunariin ja tilalle tuli 901 expedition, olen todella tyytyväinen. 173 varrella jouduin ottamaan 25mm madallussarjan ja 1-osainen rallypenkin 👍
Terrible conclusion, we all know your side of the world is the richest and I think you need both bikes! 🤣 bro, why is your opinion soooooo different that all the other riders??? Oh wait, probably because they aren’t you! 😂

Sounds like you were talking about aprilia tuareg without saying it.
Maybe .. maybe.. 😎
You are absolutely right about cruise control, at first you deem it unnecessary, but once you have it, you do not want to miss it.
It's pretty awesome when getting back from the trails 😊
Sounds like a badass trip! Thats the best way to really know how a bike is. Test riding even on basic gravel here is usually not possible either.
I am about to buy T7. Just made a call to a local dealer this week. 😅
So this video gave me second thoughts but I will most likely pull the trigger though and get one.
Has been on my radar for long now. I want realiability and simplicity.
Go for it! It's a GREAT offroader and definitely not a bad bike. Just some of these ergonomy issues is pushing me towards other offerings.
@@PatchedBandit Cheers man! 👍 Yeah it's understandable. It will be interesting to see what your next bike's going to be. 😎
Being an owner of a 2022 T7 I can fully appreciate no 3 on your negative list; your shoe analogy is brilliant. Good luck on your replacement bike.
Thanks 🙂
@PatchedBandit you can always mount a lower comfort seat on the 890R to get the seat height close to the lowest possible off the non R version
True. Is the knee angle affected a lot?
@@PatchedBandit not by much in my opinion.
@@PatchedBandit I'm 176 btw
I have the Transalp for almost a year now and it's a great bike. I don't do any serious offroading just backroads, gravel and of course long distance touring and city commute. Yes, the crouise control sometimes a miss but there are good aftermarket options. Some day I might buy one, but now I don't miss it. It's a very light and agile bike even in downtown Budapest where I live. The quick shifter is a dream, and the engine/exhaust sounds like thunder.
So you could have the little Honda for hard offroad and the bigger Honda for the more relaxed roads . You can do to the mandatory services at the same dealership, which could be a plus in the logistic front and you migh even get some benefits ;)
Cheers mate, happy thinking!
Very good points!
I think the Tuareg 660 will be great choice and lots of bike for the value.👍 Thanks for the great videos!
Thanks for joining the membership! 😊 Agree. Tuareg is a contender!
Totally agree
Agree with top heaviness. When it starts tipping there's no stoppin'!
Well said 😂
Of course it's heavy when you put 20kg of crash bars, luggage racks and shits on it...
@@potato_snek top heavy even without stuff.
How many km/mi do you have on the Tuareg? 😊
@@PatchedBanditA little less then 10000 since June 23
Thats a nice amount of riding! No problems so far?

What about Tiumph Tiger 900rally pro? There is all options.
It's a bit on the heavy side of things. 228 kg wet
i was considering Tenere and also rode it for a while but went for Aprilia Tuareg for pretty much same reasons.
Your thouhgts resonate to mine too.. That review was great 🙂
The F900GS looks really interesting but in my opinion they messed up by giving it a 17" rear wheel and only 14,5L of fuel.
To me 17" rear just looks weird on an ADV bike at this point. Even on the old F800GS it looked a little out of place.
Ktm 790 adventure
Best adv for the price hands down....it's a no brainer
Sounds like you are ready for the pw 50. Ooops no cruise control.
pw50 is very unreliable as a long distance travel bike
I bought my tenere last year in april and put on 14k kilometers in the first season. I have no issues with the seat nor the hight. I would love to have cruise control on her, but im fine with that. My T7 always brings a big smile on my face when my ass hits the seat :)
Same here. If I could afford to keep it I would just buy a third bike to keep things fresh 😁 I usually think about selling the T7 in winter season.. first time I climb on the bike in springtime I change my mind 😂 But I need to admit to myself that It's not the best bike for me personally..
@@PatchedBandit three bikes would be a bit of an overkill i think :D
Im sure you find that bike that fits your needs. Maybe the V-Strom 800 DE could be the right choice for you? Shes definitely heavier than the t7, but not that top heavy :)
The v-strom 800 would have been my second choice
We smell a Tuareg coming !
😎😅 I admit nothing!! 😂
@@PatchedBandit You are too young and adventurous for a Honda, Suzuki is too heavy, you had a Yamaha, BMW is super expenssive and if you opt for a KTM 790 you have to pay extra for everything that is already on the bike!

3 should be #1
Kove 800X Rally looks interesting i think, but i dont know about cruise control etc. 165kg dry weight, twin cylinders and 19L tank 😊👍

Thanks for the comment 😁 I actually have gone and bought a new bike already yesterday... more about that in my next video(s) 😉
I'm gonna ride the TET in the Baltics more at some point.. it's been in my "todo" list for a while now.
You should try the Norden expedition, it feels lower than the 890r and the seat is adjustable@@PatchedBandit
Go for KTM 890 r adventure 🙂 , thats what im thinking for next. Checks all boxes - suspension /power / cruise control / comfort / electronics /. Awesome suspension / around 14 15 k euros
Its a great option but it feels very tall for me
@@PatchedBandit being former owner of 890R and current owner of tuareg I can say that tuareg is much more comfortable on long hauls than 890R.
@@PatchedBanditLooking forward to that little wasp!
There is no "subscription" model. That would imply regular payments. Electronics packs @ KTM are permanent once bought.
@@gbner9991Thanks for the clarification. I believe I mixed someting up with the test period of the packs.
@@PatchedBanditThe German motorbike magazine TOURENFAHRER has an ADV bike overview in the March/2024 edition. Based on your given parameters a) 2 Zylinder b) seat height c) costs, I like to share the top candidates with you:
#1 seat height = 800 mm: Honda NC 750 X (8.400 EUR, 214 kg
#2 seat height = 815 mm: BMW F 800 GS (10.950 EUR, 227 kg)
#3 seat hight = 825 mm: Suzuki V-Strom 800 (10.600 EUR, 207 kg)
#4 seat height = 830 mm: Ducati Multistrade V2/S (15.290 EUR, 222 kg)
#4 seat height = 830 mm: Honda NX 500 (7.500 EUR, 196 kg)
For comparison purpose:
seat height = 875 mm: Yamaha Tenere 700 (10.999 EUR, 205 kg)

trans alp 750 / veridan cruse control
That's a good combo I have understood from some videos!
Touareg 660 is the only thing that comes up in my mind. I see others too. BTGmoto speaks well enough of it.
Its a fantastic ride for sure.
Base Model Honda Africa Twin as my first choice.
BMW F 900 GS is choice number 2
That BMW I will make a test this summer whatever it takes. If I had all the money in the world that might be an interesting option.
Love your content! I did the off road bike purchase in the following order:
1) Did dual sport training with BMW in Canada last May.
Was considering the T7 but every time I ride on one I find it uncomfortable
When I add a second bike to my stable I want it to do a few things the 300 L won’t do.
750 Transalp is also very interesting as it does have some grunt under the bonnet and all that Honda quality to go with it 😊
I lost all hope of finding 1 bike that does it all a while ago. I love my little CRF as it helps me become a better rider and it's such a workhorse that I don't need to worry about it breaking down on me.
can i ask you, couse i havent ride it,the tenere can powerwheelie with 2nd?
With excellent technique it probably can. But in my hands no. So not easily 😊
I have some good trails to test it 😅
Will do FOR SURE 🫡 Hailuoto v2? 😜
@@PatchedBandit it's a deal
TIME TO GET THE G650 BACK BABY! 😆👌🏻
Truly sad that Bmw has abandoned that bike class completely 😖
I think an KTM 790 Adv with cruise control and adjustable traction control will stop you wondering… 🇸🇪🇫🇮🤘
Hi From Ireland.
What About The Suzuki V Strom? Nice Bike, At The Wright Price, Take A Look. Tell Me What You Think.
Bit heavy for my liking but I haven't ridden one.
It's must be Tuareg.
Very nice to see that 10% viewer's have commented. Good ratio!
Indeed! I thought this would be agressively uninteresting to everyone but nice to see just talking bikes is still a thing 😅
Although I was tall enough, I found my Africa Twin was too heavy for off-road.
Yep. I would hesitate putting the big AT to this mid size category.
Motto Guzzi Stelvio?
I wouldn't consider that a middleweight at 542.3 lbs (246 kg) wet weight. Bit too heavy for my use case.

not a lot of choices, Aprilia or Kove 800
I'm gonna try to ride the Kove 800 soon. Kove 450 videos are just waiting for better weather already so I'm probably gonna have the 800 available at some point too.
Go for a Norden 901 🙂
I’ve never actually ridden one 🤔
Im going for the 2023 Honda CRF1100 AS DCT ES at work. It is 30+ kg over the 220 mark 😂
CFMoto 450MT?
Problem with that bike is going to be the power to weight ratio. Lot's of youtubers are touting this to be the next unicorn but people rarely talk about the fact that this is how it compares to for example Aprilia:
Tuareg 660 Weight: 187 kg
CFMoto 450MT Weigth: 175 kg
So there is a 12kg difference there. Great? .. Not necessarily.
The bike only produces 44 hp. Meanwhile the Tuareg is 80hp.
This bike is going to be slow and as I already have one slow dualsport I don't want another 😄
Don't get me wrong here. I'm not saying its a bad bike and its very well priced for sure. But it's most likely not the unicorn everyone is waiting for either (just my opinion)
It should be much lighter for what it is.
Exactly. All dry weights that I posted there. It's still a heavy bike 🙂
Ostin samoilla vaatimuksilla uuden 790:sen Tech Packillä, lämpökahvoilla/penkillä...
Se on kova luu varmasti kans. Ootko paljo ajanu?
tuareg?
Maybe 🤔
Tuareg 660 :) 🥰
Nyt loppu sun videoitten kattominen :D
Nooo 😭 Ei näitä muutenkaa kukaa kato 😂
@@PatchedBanditse on kyllä totta 😂
T7- The most overrated motorcycle. Great engine but too heavy for what it offers, too expensive and poorly equipped. I could not still understand the hype about the Tenere. If you want what the Tenere offers, you can buy an old African Twin RD04.
Tenere was super cheap when it came out but the prices have been climbing lately. Not sure if its the great deal it used to be anymore.
That CP2 engine and great looks is what you get with a T7 and I'm gonna miss both 😆
I agree. In the UK, BIKE magazine voted it Bike of the Year before they'd even ridden it.
@@joakimf4868 I have to disappoint you, I've already driven both (off-road), that's why I came up with it. I love my @890R
The town I'm born in and lived my youth in...
Nice! I just moved here 😊
Aprilia Tuareg 660 a no brainer 🙂
One of the more likely options for sure 😎
There is a moneylimit on what you really want to ride like a crazy Finn fast on a small gravel road. 😂
Very true 😅
Aprilia :)
Tuareg or 890 adv r....however you will regret selling it
Most likely yes. But as I dont have the money to keep them all I need to look forward 🙂
How to say I’m buying an Aprilia Tuareg without saying I’m buying an Aprilia Tuareg 😂
😁😁
I guess you will purchase KTM790/890. ;)
790 has definitely been a contender… 890 at least the R feels a bit tall for me though 🤙

Too tall. Felt like riding a horse 😅

mulla meni tenere WR lunariin ja tilalle tuli 901 expedition, olen todella tyytyväinen. 173 varrella jouduin ottamaan 25mm madallussarjan ja 1-osainen rallypenkin 👍
Sell the Tenere. Buy a KTM. Sell the KTM for obvious reasons, buy another Tenere. Looks like you want an 800 DE.
Vstrom is too heavy 😊
