  • In this video we change out the box wedge for the tall 4 way wedge on the Eastonmade 22-28. We then use there single wedge to make precise bundle wood splits.

    Nice job getting the wedges swapped safely, like you said the more you do the more efficient you'll be at it. The 4 way made some great looking oak bundle wood!

      Hi Obie. The single wedge definitely makes nice precise splits. The box wedge, however, makes a lot of nice size splits FAST!

    Clifford looks extra fuzzy today😊. After you split the slabs off, stand em up and run two pieces side by side thru the horizontal wings bypassing the vertical. Works very fast. I split all my bundle wood with tall four way and a 9-16. 👍🏻👍🏻

    Can’t beat the box wedge and pull back arm for production. I plan to resplit the wood produced from the box wedge for bundles. Keep moving buddy.

      Hi Bill. I hope all the recent bumps in the road are smoothing out for you guys. It sounds like you have a good plan. A vertical splitter to do results would be the ultimate solution.

    hi there well done that splitter i think wasn't made for pieces to sit flat on the beam .still kind of like my table .the wood slides back on it's metal top .and there is no log lift in the way to make me reach out over . and the rounds or slabs can go right onto the beam for re splits . great show keep moving john

    Seems like the log cradle that makes it such a wonderful horizontal splitter sort of works against the re splitting action but the main thing is it will do it.

    I got my 22-28 a week after the fellowship, the issue I’m having, the machine is too big and fuel cost are not worth using the 22-28 to make bundle grade wood with the 4 way. It’s a pain to be reaching around grabbing wood to resplit in the size you want. My solution is to get a ultra. Use the 22-28 to bust the big rounds down and use the ultra to make the smaller splits. I would prefer the axis, just cost a little high for me. That’s my game plan.

    • @oldguyfirewood
      @oldguyfirewood  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi Cory. On the 22-28 the ideal situation is the pizza box wedge for bundle wood. I understand what you are saying... the Axis is the ultimate machine for bundle wood.

    That is a nice tall wedge that should bust thru most any round. As I watched you reach to pull back the re-splits, I was wondering if a short handled pickaroon would help. You could just hook the front of the splits and pull them back instead of extending your arms and shoulders so much.

    • @oldguyfirewood

      That's a great idea Steve. I should have been splitting from the other side. I've found that makes it much easier.

    That cradle is not ideal for respliting. Plus the log lift is in the way. Looks like a lot of extra work with that machine. Too bad the cradle isn’t removable. I think you are right it’s best to use the box wedge.

    • @oldguyfirewood

    Call me crazy Dick, but I see an Axis in your future especially if you are going to be working by yourself much and you start picking up more bundle wood business. For sure, both horizontal and vertical machines have their pros and cons. I'll be curious to see if you end up going that direction in the years to come.

    • @oldguyfirewood
